Broken ivtv 0.4.1-1 with kernel26 2.6.15-2

After upgrading to latest kernel and new ivtv, the ivtv module would not install anymore. I use a Hauppauge PVR250 card on my PC.
A number of things were not right:
ivtv now expects firmware for the TV card in /lib/firmware or /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware since it moved to hotplug support in 0.4.1, where the package installs firmware in /lib/modules;
ivtv now expects the firmware files to have new names, aligned with v4l conventions (the new names can be found on the ivtvdriver.org howto page on firmware).
After moving and renaming the firmware files, loading the module would generate a segmentation fault (whilst live) or inhibit linux from booting (from boot). Both hwd and hwdetect alternatives to hotplug would try to load the ivtv module, even if it was no longer on the MODULES list in rc.conf. It soon appeared on my rc.conf's MOD_BLACKLIST to enable booting the machine at all ;-)
The following partially worked for me (ivtv still reports being unable to load msp3400 - no audio):
download ivtv-0.5.1 from ivtvdriver.org
installing v4l-kernel support by typing make v4l-checkout; make v4l-update; make v4l (where I had to modify Make.config in v4l-kernel/v4l to exclude a few modules that generated errors during compilation, like c8xx)
make
make install
installing firmware according to instructions on ivtvdriver.org (including renaming and moving the files)
separately installing two more modules for my PVR250 card (that were not present in the new kernel package and built by the v4l-kernel support): msp3400.ko and saa7115.ko into /lib/modules/2.6.15-ARCH/kernel/drivers/media/video
Of course, downgrading to previous kernel and/or ivtv may have worked as well, but I was just too curious...
Ton

I was having problems getting ivtv working with the new kernel as well. I tried what you mentioned and I didn't get my card to work. Ivtv didn't bring up any problems and it did detect my card properly but the tuner would not initialize. I gave up and downgraded back to 2.6.14.4-2 and used the ivtv 0.4.1 modules that I compiled previously that were still in the ivtv folder of the old 2.6.14-ARCH folder and my WinTV PVR-250 works again. If nothing else, someone should change the new PKGBUILD for ivtv so that it adheres to the new ivtv standards.

  • Two problems with kernel26-2.6.39.1-1

    hi,
I just upgraded system, and i found two problems with kernel26-2.6.39.1-1
first one is that i cannot use "reboot", the screen was black.
second, i cannot use " openconnect" to connect the vpn. and the error is
CSTP connected. DPD 30, Keepalive 20
Error: either "to" is duplicate, or "ipid" is a garbage.
Connected tun0 as XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX, using SSL
    Continuing in background; pid 1661
    DTLS handshake failed: 2
after i downgraded the kernel to kernel26-2.6.38.8-1, both problems were solved. so, i think, there should be something wrong with  kernel26-2.6.39.1-1

    thanks for replies.
" poweroff" was ok. but "reboot" didnt work (kernel26-2.6.39.1-1).
    after i run "reboot",
    the xorg was first killed,
then some   words showed on the screen line by line,
finally, as far as i remenber, it stopped at "waiting for XXXXXX" or "XXXXXsignalXXXX".
im sorry i forget the exact words. but i think they are the last words we can see if we run "reboot"

  • Replace ieee80211 with kernel26?

    Hi all
It has been a while since I last did an Pacman -Syu and was surprised to see this message
    :: Synchronizing package databases...
    current [################] 100% 47K 23.0K/s 00:00:02

    :: Replace ieee80211 with kernel26 from "current"? [Y/n]
    Is it correct?
I've searched the forum and read the news about the new kernel - but there didn't seem to be anything specific about this. If there is please point me in the right direction.
I have Arch installed on a laptop with a Intel 2100 wireless card.
    Thanks

ipw2100 in the kernel is working nicely.
You must also enable ieee80211 network stack, with the encryption you want ( likely WEP)
However, you have to unpack the firmware manually ( ipw2100-fw-1.3.tgz) to /lib/firmware. It is not provided by the kernel(it's not GPL).
The firmware can be found at ipw2100.sourceforge.net.
Or you can do a pacman -Sw ipw2100 and pick the firmware files ( You don't need the module).

Plug your phone into the wall charger for at least 30 minutes...make sure you have a sim card in the phone...then:
Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, iTunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new.
Make sure you have no anti-virus software running or any firewalls...turn all of that stuff off.

Do you mean to ask if they repair iPhones?  No, they simply provide device replacements or battery replacements, sometimes on-site, sometimes via mail.  If your iPhone 4 is physically damaged, then for $149 you can get an out of warranty replacement that will have a 90 day warranty, or whatever warranty time is remaining on your original device, whichever is greater.

  • I dropped my macbook pro and the screen is broken can i still use it with an external monitor? Or can I or how do I transfer hard drive files to my mac mini?

I dropped my 17" macbook pro and the screen is broken. Can I still use it with an external monitor? When I plugged it into a monitor I had used it with before, I'm not able to see anything on the macbook screen to control it. It came on but I just got the blue screen with nothing else after typing in my password. (Didn't see the password form just assumed it was there somewhere and it did go from space to blue screen but no desktop icons, files, dock strip at top or anything else, just blank blue screen) so I can't access the system preferences.
Or can I / or how do I, transfer hard drive files to my mac mini? If not salvageable as is can I pull out the hard drive and make it an external harddrive? In otherwords is anything salvageable? It seems it's coming on I just can't access anything. BTW I was told it would cost aprox $1000 to replace the screen! I paid almost $4000 for this thing and it was running great - makes me sick to lose it!

I'd like to promise you that everything will be fine if you just get the monitor going - but it's hard to know what the hardware damage might be. It might be the monitor, or the damage might be greater.
Your best solution would be visit your local Apple Store and let them know what your situation is. They have access to diagnostics you don't, and they might be able to the best way to save your data and keep you computing. It's still not covered, but they can tell you what your current options are.
Um, you might consider investing in a backup drive.
And there other repair options, too. Powerbook Medic http://www.powerbookmedic.com/xcart1/pages.php?pageid=67 offers reliable repairs, and quotes prices well under Apple's.

  • CFChart images broken when creating a PDF document with SSL

I have a report that I create with Coldfusion, that includes a number of CFChart objects.  I recently installed a new SSL certificate, and now all the charts show up as broken links.   It shows up fine if I try and display this as HTML. On the chance it was something weird about my (lengthly) report, I created the following sample code that I saved in a file called foo.cfm:
    <cfset sDir = "C:/">

If I go to the URL https://www.mywebsite.com/foo.cfm, the foo.pdf file shows a broken link.  If instead I go to http://www.mywebsite.com/foo.cfm the image of the chart shows up just fine.
The weird thing is that I have an older server running CF9.0.0.  On this server it works just fine.  On another server with 9.0.1, it breaks.  Same with 9.0.2, and CF 10.
I read something about needing to install the cert in a keystore, and I did this but it changed nothing.  The image is still broken in the pdf.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  We have been able to work around the issue by posting the image in a non-secure location, but this seems like a hack, not a proper solution.

Hi Anit, thanks for the feedback.  I did try this on a different server, using the instructions here:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/coldfusion/kb/import-certificates-certificate-stores-coldfusion.htm l
and then restarted ColdFusion, but it didn't seem to fix the issue.  How would I check that the certificate has been correctly imported?  Also, how can I define what URL Coldfusion uses to get the images it creates with CFChart?   Though it seems to me this should "just work" by default, if I've followed the steps correctly, and I should have to edit any config files.

  • [Solved] Massive bootproblems with kernel26 2.6.38

I don't know what's wrong with my computer, so I post it here:
Every kernel before 2.6.39 worked fine with 'irqpoll' as kernel parameter.
'Irqpoll' is needed, otherwise the boot hangs somewhere and I have to press Enter several times to continue.
The problem is now: current kernels refuse to boot, I just get a blinking monitor or errormessages.
I've read that 2.6.39 got a different IRQ handling, maybe that is the 'problem'.
Bios version in the latest, I tried everything. Disabled HPET, changed Bios IRQ settings, kernel parameter (irqpoll irqfixup noacpi noapic nolapic erst_disable hest_disable) ...
acpi=off is the only option which works fine.
Today I fixed my DSDT (produces 0 error and warnings now) and compiled it into kernel26-mainline (3.0-rc3) -> same problem.

I've found out that disabling C1E in the Bios helps.
After searching the forum I read this solution again -> https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=92801
'irqpoll' is also no more necessary.

As with so many others, I'm fighting a losing battle of timer
issues.  I created a small test vi to see if I could use the
method Lynn described--a gif of the block diagram is included as
    attachment labview3.gif.
After running this for about 16 minutes I find that the timestamps
given by "Get Date/Time in Seconds" are about 6 msec. behind the method
of getting one Date/Time stamp before the loop starts and using the
millisecond "Tick Count" to measure the time.  This is using
LabVIEW 5.0 on a WIN '98 machine with several processes running.
A copy of the front panel is included as labview2.gif.
I created a similar vi using LV 7.1 on an XP machine with few processes
running and discovered a discrepancy of about 7 milliseconds after a 3
hour run time.  My question is, which clock is correct?  Is
the system clock losing time or is the millesecond timer gaining time
or is it a little bit of both?
(I'm still working on a way to used this combined clock for time stamping even after the millisecond clock rollover.)

  • Installing vmware-workstation-6.5.3 with kernel26-2.6.32 walkthrough

I changed my Fedora 10 laptop to Archlinux 2 weeks ago (and I'm loving it).
So, I also had to move my vmware-workstation-6.5.3 to my new distro, and also all my virtual machines.
I followed  the wiki (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Installing_VMware) but until I had a working vmware, I had to do something different from the instructions.
So, I post here my walkthrough, if someone needs it.
    Vmware package and kernel:
    - VMware-Workstation-6.5.3-185404.i386.bundle.
    - kernel26-2.6.32.1-1
    1. As root cd to the directory where is VMware-Workstation and follow these steps:
    [root@hp]# mkdir -p /etc/rc.d/vmware.d/{rc{0,1,2,3,4,5,6}.d,init.d}
    [root@hp]# export VMWARE_SKIP_MODULES=true
    [root@hp]# sh VMware-Workstation-6.5.3-185404.i386.bundle --console --custom
    2. Read and accept EULA and go on.
    3. Then press enter to all answers except "System service runlevels", where you must enter /etc/rc.d/vmware/, like in the example:
    Do you agree? [yes/no]: yes
System path prefix.  Please note that choosing a path other than /usr
may result in missing icons, application launchers, and other desktop
    integrations [/usr]:
    System lib directory [/usr/lib]:
    Architecture-independent files [/usr/share]:
    User level binaries [/usr/bin]:
    Super user level binaries [/usr/sbin]:
    Documentation [/usr/share/doc]:
    Manual pages [/usr/share/man]:
    Header files [/usr/include]:
    System configuration files [/etc]:
    System service runlevels: /etc/rc.d/vmware.d/       <<--------------------------------
    System service scripts [/etc/rc.d/vmware.d/init.d]:
Path to Eclipse directory for use with Integrated Virtual Debugger
    (optional):
The product is ready to be installed.  Press enter to begin
    installation or Ctrl-C to cancel.
    4. Now exit from root and become normal user again. Then run vmware command.
    [memyselfandi@hp]$ vmware
It asks to compile modules and you must press de "_Install" button.
After some ERROR messages it asks you the root passord and then it starts to compile modules.
    Finally it starts vmware.
    5. You must close it again and do this as root:
    [root@hp]# ln -s /etc/rc.d/vmware.d/init.d/vmware /etc/rc.d/vmware
    6. Then with your favorite editor, include "vmware" to DAEMONS in /etc/rc.conf to allow vmware modules to load while computer boots:
    # /etc/rc.conf - Main Configuration for Arch Linux
    DAEMONS=(syslog-ng ... ... vmware)
    7. You must substitute /sbin/lsmod with /bin/lsmod in the file /etc/rc.d/vmware/init.d/vmware with your favorite editor or use this command instead:
    [root@hp]# sed -i 's/\/sbin\/lsmod/\/bin\/lsmod/g' /etc/rc.d/vmware.d/init.d/vmware
    8. Restart vmware services and load modules with this command:
    [root@hp]# /etc/rc.d/vmware restart
    9. There is a common mouse problem (it loses focus outside VGA area 640x480) because of GTK+ new version. To avoid this issue, add this line to the end of "/etc/vmware/bootstrap":
    # /etc/vmware/bootstrap
    export VMWARE_USE_SHIPPED_GTK=yes
    10. Now you can  start as normal user:
    [memyselfandi@hp]$ vmware
Or in the gnome menu "System Tools" --> "VMware Workstation"
I didn't experiment any problems with keycodes. I don't know, but they seem to be solved in 6.5.3 version(?)
    Hope this help someone!

My vmware install logs don't really help here but they do show where it trails off into oblivion:

  • Sound stopped working with kernel26-2.6.22.1-4

Before I updated to kernel26-2.6.22.1-4, everything was working fine. Digital output, ac3/dts with 5.1 surround and stereo output. Now, interestingly digital ac3/dts through spdif works, stereo does not. I have followed the ALSA guide and all modules and everything seems to be loaded and working. What else, everything is unmuted in alsamixer, including IEC958 and IEC958 P on 0% volume.

  • Install vmware-workstation-7.0.0 with kernel26-2.6.32 walkthrough

For anyone who need some help, and the same way I did with version 6.5.3 (http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=88103), I post here my install walkthrough for vmware-workstation-7.0.0.
There are only a few differences.
    Vmware package and kernel:
    - VMware-Workstation-Full-7.0.0-203739.i386.bundle
    - kernel26-2.6.32.1-1
    1. As root, cd to the directory where is VMware-Workstation and follow these steps:
    [root@hp]# mkdir -p /etc/rc.d/vmware.d/{rc{0,1,2,3,4,5,6}.d,init.d}
    [root@hp]# shVMware-Workstation-Full-7.0.0-203739.i386.bundle --console --custom
    2. Read and accept EULA and go on.
    3. Then press enter to all answers except "System service runlevels", where you must enter /etc/rc.d/vmware/, like in the example:
    Do you agree? [yes/no]: yes
System path prefix.  Please note that choosing a path other than /usr
may result in missing icons, application launchers, and other desktop
    integrations [/usr]:
    System lib directory [/usr/lib]:
    Architecture-independent files [/usr/share]:
    User level binaries [/usr/bin]:
    Super user level binaries [/usr/sbin]:
    Documentation [/usr/share/doc]:
    Manual pages [/usr/share/man]:
    Header files [/usr/include]:
    System configuration files [/etc]:
    System service runlevels: /etc/rc.d/vmware.d/       <<--------------------------------
    System service scripts [/etc/rc.d/vmware.d/init.d]:
Path to Eclipse directory for use with Integrated Virtual Debugger
    (optional):
The product is ready to be installed.  Press enter to begin
    installation or Ctrl-C to cancel.
    4. After installation is done, you must substitute /sbin/lsmod with /bin/lsmod in the file /etc/rc.d/vmware/init.d/vmware with your favorite editor, or use this command instead:
    [root@hp]# sed -i 's/\/sbin\/lsmod/\/bin\/lsmod/g' /etc/rc.d/vmware.d/init.d/vmware
    5. Now create a link to the init script, inthe place where Arch can recognize it:
    [root@hp]# ln -s /etc/rc.d/vmware.d/init.d/vmware /etc/rc.d/vmware
    6. Then with your favorite editor, include "vmware" to DAEMONS in /etc/rc.conf to allow vmware modules to load while computer boots:
    # /etc/rc.conf - Main Configuration for Arch Linux
    DAEMONS=(syslog-ng ... ... vmware)
    7. Now exit from root and become normal user again. Then run vmware command and test it.
    [memyselfandi@hp]$ vmware
    That's all!

Wow, thank you very much!! Your incredible guide help me installing VMware 7.01 in a snap, you're the king =D
I think there should be a section like "Application instalation guides" with all guides like this.
The question now is how to install VMware Tools into an Arch guest (currently using KDE SC).
    I'm investigating that right now...

  • Ati with kernel26.

Here tonight I tried to use ATI drivers instead of the DRM drivers. But when i try to make my new kernel I gets this error:

Why does 'config' fail? I have follow the instructions given in the wiki, so what is wrong?

Allright it worked, but when I try to run makepkg this happens.
