Broken motherboard iPhone 5?

My iPhone 5 went completely black for no reason which could be related to a mechanical, water damage or mishandling. I tried to reset the phone (holding the sleep/wake and home buttons) - it didn't work, then connect it to the iTunes (again, the phone was not recognised, but - in my opinion - it was heated more than usually).
Anyway, I took the phone to the seller (mobile provider), then it was sent to the service provider (i believe it is not an AASP). They gave a 'proffesional' opinion, that the motherboard is broken. Can anyone give me any information, how the testing (diagnostic) is done at the service provider to conclude, that the motherboard is broken. And furthermore, what are the possible reasons for the motherboard to be broken after 14 months from the purchase date (yes, unfortunately, my phone is out of warranty)? Are the broken motherboards common for iPhone 5? For me, it is really strange, because before that i haven't experienced any problem with my phone.
Thanks for any opinion, suggestion and help.

If you live in the UK, we have the Sale of Goods Act. This legislation is there to protect the consumer. The warranty is a little bonus...an added extra. Even if apple didn't provide a warranty, it is still reasonable to expect that your phone is fit for purpose and is durable. Is it reasonable to expect the duration of a phone that is worth hundreds of pounds to last 14 months? I would argue that it is not and if you raised a Small Claims Action through the courts, this could be argued. The Sale of Goods Act is law and it takes precedence over any warranty. As a consumer you have rights. If you purchased directly from Apple, the contract is with them. If you purchased from amazon or a communications company, your contract is with them, (even if they try to fob you off with the Apple Warranty line).
The Sale of Goods act has no bearing if the device has been opened by an unauthorized service technician.

  • Is it possible to retrieve the broken motherboard and get a replacement.

Hello everyone, I'm desperate for help now. I just had a look with this forum today and realised many people have been suffering the same sudden death issue of Z3C.I know the original post was too long so I edited it
I experienced the same issue in last December, at first it was the motherboard issue so they got it replaced but when they tried to set it up the screen was broken, so I have no idea how long I have to wait. I just want to say It had been a joy and wonderful experience to use the phone so there were actually a lot of important information and memorable things kept in the phone which I would die for, I even tried to request that would it be possible to have the damaged motherboard back or could they at least try to restore the datas back to the phone. If anyone has done similar thing before and managed to complain through email please let me know the email I will be very appreciate!

I bought this phone in the end of last September and this is speaking from a proud loyal user of Sony products and I have owned wide range of products like Bravia television, home theater system, and Playstations, they have been a great pleasure to me. Before the release of Z3 Compact, I was desperately looking for a small sized phone with capability of good performance until I saw the advertising of Z3 Compact, so I had finally found a phone that best suited my every needs. I'd been enjoying every single feature of the phone but it was only 2 months since I bought it then the phone died suddenly when I woke up the next morning and I had an important meeting that day. Due to the problem of course I could not make it in the end. I had done everything I could but the phone could not be turned on at all, so there was entirely no way for me to back up everything before I sent it to repair. I could say it was very unfortunate for me because I have many friends who are still using high-end Xperia phones like Z2 and they are still running fine even until this day.
Finally I got a call few weeks ago so I thought I could finally get it after such a long wait. Instead I was told that it was the mainboard issue so a new one got replaced, but when they tried to set up the phone they noticed the screen was broken, so they had to deliver it again to the headquarter of repair centre in Kuala Lumpur. I have been waiting for nearly two months. Most importantly is that I have to study overseas next month so what should I do if the same problem happens again? Therefore I asked for a replacement and they said they would try for it and wait for approval from their manager but chances are very low.
For quite sometime I have been looking for the email of customer support but so far I could only manage to get the contact number, seriously Sony? Maybe it was my mistake but I just couldn't find the email contact except for regions like US and Europe since those regions are far more popular compared to where I am, a country that probably no one has ever heard of-Malaysia. I know it's no luck to seek for support from Sony Malaysia, so I was actually trying to look for international office for Asia region, but so far I could only find Australia and Hong Kong, therefore I gave it a try but it appeared to be an error link that led to nowhere.
Since I couldn't find the email at all I was given no choice but to call the customer support. I was really frustrated and unsatisfied with the solution they offered during the first call, saying that if the phone breaks again I can only bring it back from overseas to the repair centre in my home country just to get it fixed whenever I have the chance to go back.

Although I know I can't do anything with it but who knows maybe someday there is someone expert enough in IT can lend me a hand in such case. I know it's their policy to not return the damaged parts to customers but it's only my very little request even if they can't get me a replacement.
Since Sony is such a giant corporation, hasn't there been any solution they can offer since most users of Z3C are experiencing the same issue? Instead of raging my disappointments through internet which could spread false information and negatively affect the reputation, I hope this is the best way to solve my problems and let everyone knows.
I'm sorry if the post is too long but this is the best way to express my feeling. If anyone has similar experience or knows the email, please let me know and any help provided will be much appreciated.

Sorry to hear that, but this forum is for us, users, and what you need is someone from Xperia Care to find your motherboard and send it back, I don't think it'll be possible to retrieve any data from a broken motherboard.

  • Replacement of a broken motherboard in an iMac is 595€ or 1.466€!!!

Replacement of a broken motherboard in an iMac is 595€ but if I ask to return the faulty motherboard (proof of replacement, example is class, curiosity) cost suddenly rises to 1.466€.
Dealer claims 595€ is the price of an "exchange" and 1.466€ is the price of a purchase.
This means a motherboard costs more than a brandnew iMac.
Can someone explain what is happening?

Just google the drive in question (or go directly to the Seagate site) + "form factor."  The orginal drive will be 3.5" and have a standard size.
I don't know what will happen with a hybrid, but you might want to know before plungng ahead that all the drives for that model are Apple proprietary, with special firmware for the reading of the internal temp sensor.
The usual result of replacing the drive is that the SMC (System Management) receives no input for the temp of the drive and revs the drive fan up to max. One workaround for this, at least with ordinary drives, is to get the free SSD Fan Control.

I've broken my iPhone 4, my frontal display and the back screen so, I'd like to know how much is to change it ?

The state of the warranty no longer matters since accidental damage itself voids the warranty.  Apple calls replacement due to damage an out-of-warranty replacement so there is no misunderstanding about that.  And they take it just a little further by saying if you try and repair it yourself, then they won't have anything to do with the iPhone ever again.  They are pretty emphatic about what they will and will not do in the way of replacing.
You can, of course, take the iPhone to an Apple Authorized Repair Service and see if they will replace the screen and back and how much that would cost.  That way Apple will still deal with you if necessary.

I need to fix a broken screen. iPhone 5 any ideas?

Contact Apple support at the appropriate number from: http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57 and ask about possible screen replacement being offered in the UK for the iPhone 5...in the US that is only done on the iPhone 5, and not at all Apple stores at this time.  Only certain ones are doing so.
If that is not an option, an out-of-warranty replacement for the iPhone 5 is $229 in the US, convert to Pounds Sterling.

Plug your phone into the wall charger for at least 30 minutes...make sure you have a sim card in the phone...then:
Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, iTunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new.
Make sure you have no anti-virus software running or any firewalls...turn all of that stuff off.

  • Animated GIF broken on iPhone, iPad Safari

[This is a cross-post with the using iPhone forum https://discussions.apple.com/message/17908717#17908717 ]
I develop a web site and I use animated GIFs. They used to work fine on both iPhone and iPad, but now they're broken. The animation plays but one of the frames plays with the center of the image somewhat transparent so the background color shows through. This is under iOS 5.1. Is this a known bug or limitation and is there a fix?
    Thanks.

Thanks!  You'll get an email when the bug is ready to verify in a public build (either a developer seed if you have access, or a GM build), but I can't comment on when that might be.  You may add additional comments to the bug at any time by logging back into <https://bugreport.apple.com/>.
Since this apparently doesn't occur on every animated GIF image, the only suggestion for a workaround that I have is to try a different program (on your Mac or PC) to generate the GIF, or use a different program to post-process the GIF to see if that fixes the issue.

  • Syncing Broken from iPhone/MobileMe over to iCal - but not in reverse

I've tried all the solutions noted in dozens of Discussion topics. I've called Apple Support several times in the past. All the fixes were temporary, not permanent. Several of my friends and I are looking for a permanent fix to the broken sync issues described below:
Changes and additions made in the iPhone calendar syncs OK up to the MobileMe cloud ... then stops there. These items never sync down from the MobileMe cloud to iCal. This problem, and similar ones, have persisted for months now.
Sadly, changes made in iCal always sync OK in the reverse order - up through the MobileMe cloud and on to iPhone - been inserting duplicate events added in iPhone over in iCal, adding "iCal" to the Event Titles. The results are that I have duplicates in iPhone now (one with the "iCal" indicator in the title, one without it).
Finally, Conflict Resolver is problematic and annoying. If I edit an event in iPhone, it will sync OK up to MobileMe. But then I get repeated Conflict Resolver messages indicating conflicts b/t iCal and either or both iPh and MM. If I choose the info in MobileMe or iPhone to edit the info in iCal, the conflict just keeps repeating - for example, I just for the 10th time clicked the Review Now button, and went through the process, for the same "1" event - oops now the 11th time. But if I choose the info in iCal to edit the info in MobileMe or iPhone, it edits OK. But it still does not affect the problems noted above.
My iPhone 4 is my 4th iPhone ... I've owned all the versions. These syncing issues have persisted. What good is the iPhone out on the road as a business tool if I add calendar events as appointments are made, but then when I return to my desk these items will not sync back up through MobileMe to iCal?

I'm having a similar problem. But in my case, nothing is syncing either way with my iPhone 3G. iCal is syncing just fine between MobileMe cloud and our computers as well as my husband's iPod touch. Just not with my iPhone 3G since loading iOS4. I just downloaded the iOS4 update -- hoping to fix multiple problems with the new OS, including slow as molasses performance -- but iCal still won't sync in either direction.
Apple Customer Service recommended doing a iCal sync through iTunes. Trouble with that is that it's created duplicates of (almost) everything: "All on my iPhone" and "All [email protected]". Ugh, hate that, but at least I can turn off the "All on my iPhone" now.
Anyone have any ideas re: how to fix the iPhone to MobileMe cloud sync? Or do I have to wait (and hope) for the next iOS4 update?
Sigh. Apple continues to disappoint this 20-yr+ Mac user!

  • How much apple charge for broken screen iPhone 5

How much charge iPhone 5 broken screen replace

Apple reportedly now will replace the screen in an iPhone 5 for US $149. Availabllity of repair services may vary by country, and I'm not sure if other models of iPhone also can be repaired, so call Apple Support or visit an Apple Store and ask for information. For other problems Apple at this time does not at this time repair iPhones, but will replace the entire iPhone for a flat fee. If you have AppleCare+ coverage, the cost will low; in the US it's $49. If you do not have AppleCare+ on your iPhone, see the Service Pricing section here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/service/faq/
There are independent iPhone repair services that may be able to do the repair for less than Apple's out-of-warranty charge. Do a web search for "iPhone repair". Note, though, that if you elect to have the iPhone serviced by an unauthorized shop, all further warranty and support from Apple will be voided.
    Regards.
Forum Tip: Since you're new here, you've probably not discovered the Search feature available on every Communities page, but next time, it might save you time (and everyone else from having to answer the same question multiple times) if you search a couple of ways for a topic, both in the relevant forums and in the Apple Knowledge Base, before you post a question.

  • Somw thing lose or broken inside iphone 5

    i bought my iphone 5 in 8/2/2013
    guaranteed from apple
    i bought from vodafone egypt
and i noticed that there is some thing lose inside iphone  in  camer side   undercamer like small pice is broken inside i tried to press all keys to check if is the sound of broken thing from the keys but it is not
It rattles whenever i put  the phone down or pick it up, also if you shake it lightly
people how sell guaranteed  iphones told me that its not normal
and  when i watched other mobiles iphone 5 i  noticed there is no some thing loose inside our rattles
when i went to vodafone and showed them the phone they told me that normal
how its normal when other devices dont have my problem
how come apple device have something broken inside is it normal
they do not want to repair it our replace they afraid that if they replaced the iphone that apple refuse to replace and they well pay to cost of the new device
in the end they told me they dont have  solution  and
the solution  is to contact apple and say my problem and get the confirmation code to replace
i need help the phone dont have any   scratched  like new

You will not. What intrinsic value does your broken phone have? Why do you think that they will take it in and if you pay the difference you will get a new phone?
So you crash your car, and you take it in to the dealer and "offer to pay the difference"  in order to "swap
the crashed car for a new car, what do you think the dealer's response will be?

  • Twice frontal glass broken on Iphone 5

    Hello,
I'm an "old" user of Iphone ... 3S, 4, 5 .... on this last one for two times I've broken the frontal glass... never happened with older models
Honestly in the first time I have nothing to say because unfortunately my phone fell down bumping the frontal glass on a small stone (from an height of about 1 meter from my pants pocket) and the glass has broken
.... but in the second case it fallen down on the back face on a plate surface always from an height of 1 meter and in this second situation my phone was also protected a little bit in a gum cover
I choose again APPLE product and especially this model without considering equivalent models of other competitors also for roughness (saw a lot of demo video on the web) but I'm very disappointed from the reality ....
I payed twice (220 Euro each time) the replacement with 2 new phone becuse glass broken ae not under guarantee but for this second situation I don't agree with the policy of APPLE and I espect from them at least a commercial action to me because this second payed replacement is absolutely unaccetable ....
    Roberto (Italy)

Put it in a case such as then Otterbox Defender, and stop dropping it. Why should Apple be responsible for your dropping a valuable device made mostly of glass?
