Broken replication

Dear all ,
I establish a Transaction with update and merge replication between two SQL 2005 servers. every thing is OK and working fine. but when the publisher/subscriber is broken, i tired to rebuild the replication because both DB (at publisher and at subscriber) are still OK. The rebuilding is successful and a two way replication is rebuilt it. but the data changed at the subscriber site are not replication to the publisher only data change at the publisher is replicated to the subscriber.
How can i solve this problem, i mean replicated data from subscriber to publisher after rebuilding broken replication.
best regards and thanks
thaar

Is this related to Oracle in any way?

  • DFS replication issue

    Hello,
We have 1 server at branch office and 1 server at datacenter and have DFS-R enabled for user related data. By default we have enabled branch office server DFS path for end users.
Replication was broken some time back since the branch server OS was crashed. We fixed the issue by reinstalling the OS, but unfortunately a month later we found branch server is not replicating the data with its partner datacenter server
as the GUID of the branch server was changed post rebuild. I have removed the old GUID and re-add the branch server to replication group again.
But, I don't see replication is taking place properly still. If I create a new test folder its getting replicated to datacenter server, but not the old folders which have data modified between these broken replication period.
What is the best way solving this? since the over all data size is in TBs.
    Mahi

You can check the backlog on dfs : http://www.planetcobalt.net/sdb/dfscmds.shtml
    Command syntax :
    dfsrdiag backlog /rgname:KeyMaster /rfname:Gatekeeper /sendingmember:DontCrossTheStreams
    /receivingmember:StayPuffed
You may stop sharing and check the results if replication works well.

  • Replication, crossover connection, ROUTE clause

    Hello!
I want to use crossover cable connection for replication. If crossover connection is broken replication must use normal connection. Fo example
    PC1 has eth0 10.1.1.1 and eth1 192.168.0.1
    PC2 has eth0 10.1.1.2 and eth1 192.168.0.2
How I can specfy than only routes 10.1.1.1<->10.1.1.2 (low priority) and 192.168.0.1<->192.168.0.2 (high priority) can be used?

When trying to establish a replication connection TimesTen will do the following:
    1. Bind to the local IP address (MASTERIP) with the highest priority specified (CL_IP1 in your case). If this bind fails, goto (5).
    2. Attempt to connect to the subscriber IP address with the highest priority (CL_IP2 in your case).
    3. If this fails, try the subsctiber IP address with the next highest priority (IP2 in your case).
    4. Repeat (3) until a connection is established or all subscriber address have been tried. If a connection has now been extablished, stop otherwise continue to (5).
    5. Bind to the local IP address (MASTERIP) with the next highest priority (IP1) in your case. If this bind fails, then if this was the last MASTERIP go back to (1) else goto (5).
    6. Repeat (2) through (4).
So, it is not possible to prohibit connections from CL_IP1 -> IP2 or IP1 -> CL_IP2 in the TimesTen configuration; it must be done externally. Normally with this kind of setup there is no routing between the two subnets so cross-subnet connections are anyway not possible and that is the recommended way to configure the IP layer. And of course, if there is an actual network path failure then possibly (but not guaranteed) that cross-subnet connections may also not be possible.

  • Deleted objects and nstombstone objectclass

    Hi,
When i delete objects in DS5.0 with ldapdelete, DS5.0 create an objectclass nstombstone for all the deleted objects.
I can see them with ldapsearch ... (objectclass=nstombstone). Then, the size of the file id2entry.db3 increase.
I use a multi master replication between two servers and the id2entry's file sizes increases on the two server.
Why does DS5.0 create this objects and how can i delete them ?
    Thank you for you help,
    Guillaume

Directory Server 5.0 provides support for MultiMaster Replication. As changes can be done on 2 masters as the same time, the server may have to resolve some conflicts and therefore must maintain an historic of all changes that occured. The way to keep track of deleted entries is by marking them with a special objectclass and making sure they are not returned in regular searches (actually the only way to retrieve them is by specifying a filter objectclass=nsTombstone).
The server does some cleanup on a regular basis and has a thread that removes very old deleted entries. By default, these entries are removed after a week. You can reduce this age by changing the nsds5ReplicaPurgeDelay attribute value but note that this will also reduce the accepted delay of broken replication (and the age of a restored backup).
The result of setting a too small value would be that in case of problem, all the consumers will need to be re-initialized.
    Regards,
    Ludovic.

  • Replacing publisher

    Hi,
anyone knows if it is possible to add the functionality of a publisher to a subscriber?
In fact I need to reinstall a publisher running Cisco Call Manager version 4.1.3 because of system instability.
    Thanks in advance
    Antonio

Unfortunately no. To replace Publisher you need to have good BARS backup, rebuild the Pub, upgrade to version of backup (any SRs and ESs), and restore from backup.
Few times I've seen broken replication between Pub and Sub after restores. In this case you would manually re-establish replication or use dblhelper utility.
If you have a hardware issue but the drive is good you can just move the drive to a good identical system and that should work.

  • Consumer acks are missing 825 error

    Hello,
I receive the following error :
    Message : slapd-data ERROR : 3855:[10/Aug/2006:13:01:01 +0200] - ERROR8320 - Repl. Transport - conn=-1 op=-1 msgId=-1 - [S] End Failed with response: Consumer acks are missing 825
    Any idea ?
    Thank you

I am also having this issue in DS 5.2 r4 across a
number of my masters. It occurs nightly, right about
the time the db2ldif backup completes. I don't know
    if that is related though.
What could cause this and how can it be prevented? When a supplier sends a replication update to a consumer it maintains a replication timeout timer, waiting for the consumer to acknowledge the proper reception of the data before sending the next update. This acknowledgement is not sent immediately, but delayed by the time the consumer needs to apply the received data. Exceeding the timeout (which is set to 60s by default if I remember correctly) will not cause the replication to stop or result in a broken replication - it simply causes the termination of a specific replication session - indicated by ERROR<8320> .. Consumer acks are missing (825). Instantly theanfter a new replication session will be established and all data will be retransmitted (which may contain some data that have been already sent in the previous session)
If you can rule out any nework/connection related problem, this is most likely caused by a TEMPORARY inability of the consumer to process the replication updates in a timely fashion - otherwise that error would appear very often. This temporary inability may have been caused by anything - below are some (but surely not all) possible reasons:
    - consumer (system / DS instance) is/was down, busy, or in hung state
    - consumer DS instance is/was too slow to process the operations sent through replication - most of the time caused by high etime operations / unindexed searches on the consumer
    - other applications utilizing/blocking the consumer system
You need to analyze the access/error logs of the affected supplier/consumer instance and the OS related log files (/var/adm/messages, etc.) of the consumer system to find out what exactly happened at the time those messages appeared.
A db2ldif keeping the consumer busy otherwise may be a good candidate for causing this - however, as noted before - usually you don't need to care as replication protocol is able to deal with that.

  • Can't bind server to OD, replication broken, users at some sites can't auth

    Hi all,
Having a doozy of a problem with our OD at the moment, hopefully someone can help
    The setup:
1 OD master and 3 replicas at head office here, all running 10.5.5 (issue also occurred in 10.5.4)
Around a dozen remote AFP & SMB file servers, all are setup as "Connected to a directory system"
Most sites are OK, but we have issues at 2 sites.
Setting each site to "Connected to a directory system" fails at the Directory Utility stage. We try and add the master (or even some of the replicas), put in the diradmin name and password, and attempt to bind, but it responds with an error after a while.
The error states that there is already a computer with this name, and prompts to overwrite. Overwriting fails also.
I did a search and found this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1245
    and this:
    http://forums.bombich.com/viewtopic.php?t=11834&highlight=lkdc
    But neither tips help
Attempting to set up the 2 remote servers as replicas stops at the "Enabling Password Server Replication" stage. I can close out of the assistant at this stage and am left with a "broken" replica, which has 2 out of 3 things running:
    LDAP Server: Running
    Password Server: Stopped
    Kerberos: Running
On the master it says "Password Service Not Found"
So it seems that setting up replicas on a different subnet doesn't work.
I've tried getting my ISP to set up a static route for the VPN tunnel, and this worked for a set of blank test servers with no extra users added to them.
Interestingly, setting a user's password to "Crypt" in WGM allows them to authenticate to the "broken replica" and access their files. Setting their password type to "Open Directory" has no luck at all.
If I jump on the server and try a password check in the terminal, I get:
    AFP:
    dirt -u username -p password
Call to dsGetRecordList returned count = 1 with Status : eDSNoErr : (0)
    Call to checkpw(): Bad Password
    path: /LDAPv3/10.10.20.1
    Username: username
    Password: password
    Error : eDSAuthFailed : (-14090)
    SMB:
    dirt -a nt -u username -p password
Call to dsGetRecordList returned count = 1 with Status : eDSNoErr : (0)
    path: /LDAPv3/10.10.20.1
    Username: username
    Password: password
    Good
    The master's IP is 10.10.20.1.
Users can sometimes connect via SMB instead of AFP, which is a workaround for now, but I'd like to know why this is happening.
I've tried setting the AFP server's authentication methods to Standard instead of Any or Kerberos, to no effect.
Does anyone know why these servers won't bind and won't replicate, and only allow connections if people use Crypt passwords? Is my Kerberos stuffed?

Well, I tried to demote, then promote my master with no luck. During the upgrade from Tiger to Leopard, the password service cache (or whatever it's called) was somewhat corrupted. My OD Archive failed to restore !! I had to rebuild my entire OD from scratch.
Now I have slightly less errors. My replicas joined up fine. Kerberos passwords get propagated when a password changes, but samba passwords do not. Samba working is essential as 95% of the clients machines are windows boxes. Here are a few quick tests I did:
    replica1 root# dirt -m /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 -u fred
    User password:
    2009-01-15 17:13:16.919 dirt[4224:10b] password is : <password>
Call to dsGetRecordList returned count = 1 with Status : eDSNoErr : (0)
    Username: fred
    Password: <password>
    Success
    replica1 root# dirt -m /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 -a nt -u fred
    User password:
    2009-01-15 17:13:23.160 dirt[4233:10b] password is : <password>
Call to dsGetRecordList returned count = 1 with Status : eDSNoErr : (0)
    Username: fred
    Password: <password>
    Error : eDSAuthFailed : (-14090)
On the master this all works fine.
The funny thing is that my diradmin account has not problem on the replica.

  • CF7 Clustering - session replication broken

    Further to my
    earlier
thread on CF7 clustering and the "network error",
I think session replication is broken. True, I can't find any
documentation which explains how it is supposed to behave, but this
    is what I'm seeing:
If you have a two node cluster, and person A has a session on
node 1 and person B a session on node 2, session variables for each
user DO NOT appear on both nodes
Sessions on one node will only appear on the other when the
    first node fails over
Moreover, they will only appear when the user makes another
    request
CFLOGIN, when using loginstorage="session" does not replicate.
This means you have to use sticky sessions, and if there is a node
failure, the user will have to login in again. This can be avoided
by using loginstorage = "cookie" but this means the username and
password are stored unencrypted in the cookie.
    Problems I have with this:
It's impossible to have a cluster wide view of sessions. E.g.
you can't count how many sessions you have at any one time. Any
code that makes use of being able to dig in to multiple sessions -
made possible by J2EE sessions - will not work reliably.
CFLOGIN is broken. It would be better to not use it for sites
that have to be secure as keeping the unencrypted username and
password in a cookie is very insecure. The only way to protect the
username and password being stored in the cookie is SSL; and that
means that every single item on the site needs to be protected by
SSL to stop the browser from serving up the cookie over an
    unprotected connection.
It's not clear what is responsible for replication. If sessions
are only replicated when an instance goes down, rather than
continously, then I assume that the master instance of CF on each
server is responsible for replication. What happens if the server
    crashes?

Information about session replication can be found here: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E21764_01/web.1111/e13709/failover.htm#i1024620
it contains a section 'Requirements for HTTP Session State Replication' that might be helpful to you.
Also important to note is, how the load balancer handles session binding and the WebLogic cookie
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E21764_01/web.1111/e13709/load_balancing.htm#i1026939

  • Replication broken after demoting DC

    Hi,
I am in the process of upgrading our Domain Controllers to Server 2012 R2.
Today I was about to demote on of my Server 2008 R2 DCs. I ran dcpromo on the server and it went through without errors.
The DC that was demoted was the inbound replication partner for all other DCs (links automatically created by KCC).
After the demotion was done I noticed all other DCs except one had replication issues.
The current state of the AD is now that another DC have been set as replication partner for all other DCs. But, this change have only managed to sync to that DC. The rest of the DCs still want to replicate with the newly demoted DC.
    Looks something like this:
    DC3 was demoted
DC2 was automatically set to replication partner for all DCs
DC1 is still trying to replicate with DC3
What did I do wrong to make this happen and what can I do to fix it :) ?
    Regards Erik

check the ds event log of dc1 and if it still knows about dc3 in users and computers and in sites and services. if that is the case then dc1 is experiencing replication issues. using  sites and services replicate the config nc from one of the remaining
    dcs to dc1

  • Replication of tracks creating broken DC

    Hi Experts,
I am new to webdynpro java. I want to use a track from one server. But since i cannot directly use that track we have replicated the track in other server from where I can import it with the help of basis team. There were no broken DC in the original track but after migration there are two broken DC's generated. Don't know why this is happening as the original one is proper. Because of this I get the following error after creating project for that DC.

    James,
The cfg is some thing a custom DC or is it a SCA in ESS?
I think that there is no sca called cfg for ESS. When we import ESS SCA normally we should add sca's like: ESS, SAPPCUI_GP, JEE,JBUILD,JTECHS. I am not sure where cfg SCA is coming from?
Some times these issues because of SC dependencies are not synchronised correctly , we resolve these issues while clicking on Synchronize SC Dependencies from the CMS landscape configurator but it may work or may not.
I am not sure how far the manual build helpful but you can give a try.
    Thanks
    Krishna

  • Is It Possible to Add a Fileserver to a DFS Replication Group Without Connectivity to FSMO Roles Holder DC But Connectivity to Site DC???

I apologize in advance for the rambling novella, but I tried to include as many details ahead of time as I could.
I guess like most issues, this one's been evolving for a while, it started out with us trying to add a new member
to a replication group that's on a subnet without connectivity to the FSMO roles holder. I'll try to describe the
layout as best as I can up front.
The AD only has one domain & both the forest & domain are at 2008R2 function level. We've got two sites defined in
Sites & Services, Site A is an off-site datacenter with one associated subnet & Site B with 6 associated subnets, A-F.
The two sites are connected by a WAN link from a cable provider. Subnets E & F at Site B have no connectivity to Site A
across that WAN, only what's available through the front side of the datacenter through the public Internet. The network
engineering group involved refuses to route that WAN traffic to those two subnets & we've got no recourse against that
decision; so I'm trying to find a way to accomplish this without that if possible.
The FSMO roles holder is located at Site A. I know that I can define a Site C, add Subnets E & F to that site, & then
configure an SMTP site link between Sites A & C, but that only handles AD replication, correct? That still wouldn't allow me, for example,
to enumerate DFS namespaces from subnets E & F, or to add a fileserver on either of those subnets as a member to an existing
DFS replication group, right? Also, root scalability is enabled on all the namespace shares.
Is there a way to accomplish both of these things without transferring the FSMO roles from the original DC at Site A to, say,
the bridgehead DC at Site B?
When the infrastructure was originally setup by a former analyst, the topology was much more simple & everything was left
under the Default First Site & no sites/subnets were setup until fairly recently to resolve authentication issues on
Subnets E & F... I bring this up just to say, the FSMO roles holder has held them throughout the build out & addition of
all sorts of systems & I'm honestly not sure what, if anything, the transfer of those roles will break.
I definitely don't claim to be an expert in any of this, I'll be the first to say that I'm a work-in-progress on this AD design stuff,
I'm all for R'ing the FM, but frankly I'm dragging bottom at this point in finding the right FM. I've been digging around
on Google, forums, & TechNet for the past week or so as this has evolved, but no resolution yet.
On VMs & machines on subnets E & F when I go to DFS Management -> Namespace -> Add Namespaces to Display..., none show up
automatically & when I click Show Namespaces, after a few seconds I get "The namespaces on DOMAIN cannot be enumerated. The
specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted". If I run a dfsutil /pktinfo, nothing shows except \sysvol
but I can access the domain-based DFS shares through Windows Explorer with the UNC path \\DOMAIN-FQDN\Share-Name then when
I run a dfsutil /pktinfo it shows all the shares that I've accessed so far.
So either I'm doing something wrong, or, for some random large, multinational company, every sunbet & fileserver one wants
to add to a DFS Namespace has to be able to contact the FSMO roles holder? Or, are those ADs broken down with a child domain
for each Site & a FSMO roles holder for that child domain is located in each site?

    Hi,
A DC in siteB should helpful. I still not see any article mentioned that a DFS client have to connect to PDC every time trying to access a DFS domain based namespace.
Please see following article. I pasted a part of it below:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc782417(v=ws.10).aspx
Domain controllers play numerous roles in DFS:
Domain controllers store DFS metadata in Active Directory about domain-based namespaces. DFS metadata consists of information about entire namespace, including the root, root targets, links, link targets, and settings. By default, root servers
that host domain-based namespaces periodically poll the domain controller acting as the primary domain controller (PDC) emulator master to obtain an updated version of the DFS metadata and store this metadata in memory.
So Other DC needs to connect PDC for an updated metadata.
Whenever an administrator makes a change to a domain-based namespace, the
change is made on the domain controller acting as the PDC emulator master and is then replicated (via Active Directory replication) to other domain controllers in the domain.
    Domain Name Referral Cache
A domain name referral contains the NetBIOS and DNS names of the local domain, all trusted domains in the forest, and domains in trusted forests. A
DFS client requests a domain name referral from a domain controller to determine the domains in which the clients can access domain-based namespaces.
    Domain Controller Referral Cache
A domain controller referral contains the NetBIOS and DNS names of the domain controllers for the list of domains it has cached. A DFS client requests a domain controller referral from a domain controller (in the client’s domain)
to determine which domain controllers can provide a referral for a domain-based namespace.
    Domain-based Root Referral Cache
The domain-based root referrals in this memory cache do not store targets in any particular order. The targets are sorted according to the target selection method only when requested from the client. Also, these referrals are based on DFS metadata stored
on the local domain controller, not the PDC emulator master.
Thus it seems to be acceptable to have a disconnect between sites shortly when cache is still working on siteB.
If you have any feedback on our support, please send to [email protected].

  • Oracle Replication

    Dear Sirs,
Where can i find information on how to setup database replication ?. My client requires database replication between his head office and two factories which are all situated about 20kms apart. The connectivity at present is by means of ISDN dialup, between all these locations, and they don't intent to be online 24 hrs.
The servers are all running Redhat Linux 6.2 with Oracle Standard Edition Database (Release 8.1.5).
The requirement for example is like; The purchase order entered in head office db will have to be updated on the db's present in the factories, and the goods receipt notes entered in the factory db's will have to be updated in the head office db.
    Please help.
    Regards,
    R M Saji

We have taken ping output and sometimes its response time goes beyond 600. But we have not seen any broken job. We have four groups which contains updateable and read only snapshot and its refresh times duration is one minute, ten minutes and thirty mintues. Despite of poor connectivity at somtimes , there is no broken jobs. What could be reason.

  • Broken orion-ejb-jar.dtd?

I use the Ant task <xmlvalidate> in an EJB project to check the EJB XML deployment descriptors against their DTDs. Checking the (Sun-specified) "ejb-jar.xml" is fine. JDeveloper creates the OC4J specific deployment descriptor "orion-ejb-jar.xml" with a reference to the DTD located at "http://xmlns.oracle.com/ias/dtds/orion-ejb-jar.dtd". Now this DTD seems to be broken.
Firstly, the DTD seems to have an invalid syntax. I'm not a DTD expert but Ant complains about lines 279-281 of that DTD :
    279: isolation (commited | serializable | uncommited | repeatable_reads)
    280: CDATA #IMPLIED
    281: locking-mode (pessimistic | optimistic | read-only | old_pessimistic)
    286: max-tx-retries CDATA #IMPLIED
    287: update-changed-fields-only (true | false) "true"
There seems to be an attribut missing altogether at line 280 (see line 286) so I deleted that line. Then for lines 279 and 281, Ant complained about missing quotes - apparently, such an "enum" needs to have a "default value" (as in line 287), so I manually added such a value for each line.
The final error was in the "orion-ejb-jar.xml" (created by JDeveloper itself). Here is a piece of that:
    <orion-ejb-jar>
    <enterprise-beans>
    <session-deployment max-instances="-1" name="DiscountCalculator"/>
I assume that the "max-instances" attribute sets the number of EJB instances in the OC4J pool to "unlimited". However, according to the DTD, session beans don't have such a "max-instances" attribute (lines 10-21):
<!-- Deployment info for a session bean. -->
    ELEMENT session-deployment (env-entry-mapping*, ejb-ref-mapping*, resource-ref-mapping*)
    ATTLIST session-deployment call-timeout CDATA #IMPLIED
    copy-by-value CDATA #IMPLIED
    location CDATA #IMPLIED
    max-tx-retries CDATA #IMPLIED
    name CDATA #IMPLIED
    persistence-filename CDATA #IMPLIED
    timeout CDATA #IMPLIED
    wrapper CDATA #IMPLIED
    replication CDATA #IMPLIED
    >
So I copied and pasted the instances attribute from the entity bean section.
How come the DTD is broken? Even the 9.0.3 OC4J docs (http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/A97688_08/generic.903/a97677/dtdxml.htm#620714) talk about all sorts of features (such as the "max-instances" attribute for session beans) and still points to the DTD "http://xmlns.oracle.com/ias/dtds/orion-ejb-jar.dtd" that doesn't have these features at all.

    Karsten,
In case you are still on it, I stumbled upon this some time ago, too. My best guess is that they miss entire phrase, which I put in bold:
    ....mmited | repeatable_reads ) "commited"
    disable-wrapper-cache CDATA #IMPLIED
    locking-mode ( pesim...
(There is a line break between '"commited"' and 'disable-wrapper-cache'. 'commited', 'uncommited' must be MISSPELLED exactly as above.)
Btw, max-instances and min-instances are in the DTD that ships with 9.0.3 (jarred in oc4j.jar). This DTD, however, is still broken in the way that you found (it won't even XML-validate). How do they go around this? go figure! Oracle documentation? we all know ...
    Best regards,
    bjk

  • Replication issues: Operations Master shows ERROR and attempting to connect to server shares gets "the target account name is incorrect"

I think this should be easily resolved, but I need some guidance.
I have a client with 2 Server 2003 R2 x64 DCs: BORIS & NATASHA. Last year I upgraded both of them from x86 to x64 one at a time, allowing replication to occur between the upgrades. BORIS is the FSMO roles holder as it is currently the production server,
while NATASHA is a backup DC. One thing that puzzles me though is that if I look at the NS record in DNS on the SOA tab, it says NATASHA is the Primary server.
While doing some routine maintenance I noticed an error in the File Replication Service events about a 'Tombstone' situation (Event ID 2042). I looked at article cc757610 in the Technet Library and opted for remedy #3 as I did not want to demote NATASHA
and I got confused looking at the help about using "repadmin /removelingeringobjects". I have no idea how to determine which DC has the good copy of the directory.
Now, in running "repadmin /showrepl" I get
    "DC=CPA,DC=local
        Default-First-Site-Name\BORIS via RPC
            DC object GUID: 0267a090-1890-40e2-9a15-ea928cabd425
            Last attempt @ 2012-12-27 08:28:55 failed, result -2146893022 (0x80090322):
The target principal name is incorrect.
1179 consecutive failure(s).        Last success @ 2012-12-21 23:30:15." <-- THIS IS WEIRD SINCE THIS IS THE DATE THAT I DISCOVERED THE TOMBSTONE EVENT AND MADE THE REGISTRY CHANGE
    (I THINK).
When I try to look at the FSMO roles on NATASHA, it shows ERROR for RID, PDC & Infrastructure and says "The current Operations Master is offline. The role cannot be transferred." The other issue I'm having is that client PCs are intermittently having
trouble reconnecting to necessary server shares.
    TIA

    Hello Sandesh,
I spent a lot of time trying to understand using NETDOM to reset machine account passwords (don't understand it yet), but I see that you're saying that won't work anyway.
I'm not really sure how to tell which DC is the broken one, but I'm assuming it's BORIS since that's the one users are unable to connect to. Since it is the FSMO role holder and GC I want to make sure I understand the steps correctly:
1.Use dcpromo to forcefully demote BORIS
2.Do metadata cleanup on NATASHA (using ntdsutil?)
    3.Promote BORIS again to DC
Should I leave NATASHA as the FSMO role holder and GC? BORIS is the better (more resources/faster processor) machine and it's the file server. Or should the better machine be the FSMO role holder and GC as well as the file server. NATASHA is meant to be
a backup in case BORIS dies.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
The step you are performing is correct but you also need to seize the FSMO role on other DC if BORIS is FSMO role holder and configure authorative time server role. You can later move the famo role to  BORIS server the choice is your however if you are
moveing the role then you need configure authorative time server on BORIS server.

Once both server is online check the health of DC by running dcdiag /q and repadmin /replsum.Ensure that DNS/GC role is configured on both DC's
    Hope this helps

  • Why Does Replication requires db restart to get transactions through

I am having problems with the deferred tranasactions. There were about 44,000 in the queue before. The dbms job was broken so I ran it and it was able to push half the tranactions from the 44,000 through.
However, only half. I am manually pushing the transactions through using OEM. But they do not seem to go through. Any ideas as to why they do not go through. Any alternatives to get all the deferred tranactions to being pushed?
    Oracle 9.2.0.1 on W2k Svr.
The deferred tranaction queue had then incresed in size to 53,000 tranactions to be applied. I ran this query today, and get the following result.
    SQL> SELECT SID, r.JOB, LOG_USER, r.THIS_DATE, r.THIS_SEC
    2 FROM DBA_JOBS_RUNNING r, DBA_JOBS j
    3 WHERE r.JOB = j.JOB;
    SID JOB LOG_USER THIS_DATE THIS_SEC
    54 8 REPADMIN 15-OCT-06 17:24:52
    SQL>
Any ideas as to what to do with this information. I ran the query several times within an hour, but the ame result...any sggestions as to how to apply all the tranactions in teh deferred tranaction queue sucessfully across?
I executed the dbms jobs (which were broken) on all sites so that the DTQ empties. This was sucessfull on two of thethree master sites. However, on one of the master sites, it was only able to push half of the tranactions to one other site. This is what I am trying to resolve.
I try to manually push these transactiosn form OEM, but they do not seem to go through. Is there a way I could find wher the errors lay? I have checked all the alert logs and the trace files but no major errors.
W2K Ad Svr, Oracle 9i Release 2. and three Multimaster sites.
I even ran the following script, it executes, but does not push it through.
    declare rc binary_integer; begin rc := sys.dbms_defer_sys.push(destination=>'DESTHOST.DOMAIN', stop_on_error=>FALSE, delay_seconds=>0, parallelism=>0); end;
Once again...in our Oracle 9.2.0.1 multimaster replication environmment on Windows 2000 server system containing three master sites is giving strange errors.
The transactions within defferred transaction queue at one of the sites are not being pushed at the other site. Last month, it was the other way around.
In the trace files, we can see that there are TNS connect error to the other master sites. However as soon as we restart the particular server, the transactions are pushed through.
This environment was working fine before and we were wondering as to what could be causing these errors all of a sudden.
These are only the transactions from the Deferrerd Transaction Queue which are yet to be applied to the other site. The error queue is quite constant and we are not facing much problems there.
In the trace files the errors are:
ORA-12012: error on auto execute of job 78
ORA-23324: error ORA-12535: TNS:operation timed out, while creating deferror entry at "globaldbname" with error -12535
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_DEFER_SYS", line 1716
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_DEFER_SYS", line 1804
    ORA-06512: at line 1

    Did you fix your problem?
