BT Newsgroup Settings
Hi.
I have BT Infinity broadband, and a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.8. I use Apple Mail as my email client, and Mozilla Thunderbird as my newsgroup reader.
On Tuesday I posted a query on uk.sport.cricket newsgroup using Thunderbird. All seemed to work fine, and my posting appeared on the newsgroup. A couple of responses appeared to my query and last night I wanted to acknowledge them.
Using Thunderbird again, and without having changed anything in it's settings since I successfully posted my original query, I tried to post my acknowledgement, but I now received an error message advising me that Thunderbird was unable to connect to the server, and to check my Mail Preferences. It seemed that Thunderbird was now able to receive news postings it was no longer able to send them.
When I checked my Thunderbird account settings I saw that, while the incoming server was shown as news.btinternet.com on port 119, the outgoing (SMTP) one was shown as mail.btinternet.com on port 587.
I tried changing it to news.btinternet.com without getting anywhere, so I changed it back. I am now receiving the error message 'Alert. An error occurred when sending mail. The mail server responded: Syntax error in arguments. Please verify that your email address is correct in your Mail preferences and try again.'
Can anyone spot why I no longer seem able to post messages onto BT newsgroups? I suspect it is a server settings issue, but I cannot work out why they may have gone awry.
Solved it!
I hadn't noticed that they've changed the button to click in Thunderbird to reply to a newsgroup.
I'm sure I used to click the 'Reply' button to do that, but now it seems you have to click the 'Followup' button. (Intuitive, isn't it...?)
If you click the 'Reply' button, it interprets this as a request to email the poster of the message you're replying to.
Of course, as I had a non-existant email address set for posting on newwsgroups for security purposes, the BT server threw me back.

If that doesn't help, give us your OS (Win, MAC, Linux), TB version, and your 'Outgoing Server (SMTP)' settings. -
When I open TB, I no longer see any information about the TB account I've used for years. Instead, the main menu shows only "Accounts" -- "Create a new account - Email, Chat, Newsgroups, Feeds". Option: "View settings for this account" is NOT shown.
Also the main menu does NOT show "Email - Read messages, Write a New Message" or "Advanced features", etc..

Hi,
I have a user who sets up the Vibe plug in but at several times during the week these settings disappear. Same applies to settings for Filr. The server info and password get removed. Now the user has a local profile which in theory should remember these settings. We have round about 200 users with the same setup who don't loose the settings. I've been through the log and find this error:

Are my DNS scavenging settings correct? Server 2008 r2
hi
i cant seem to get my DNS scavenging to work correctly.
i have inherited the network from another network admin who has left.
Scavenging is enabled on the server
when i went into the
dnscmd /zoneinfo domain.com
, it never returned a DNS scavenging server, think this was because a domain controller was removed serveral years ago and that was set as the scavenger perhaps? not sure.
so i ran the command
dnscmd /ZoneResetScavengeServers domain.com 192.168.1.194
This added a new scavenging server but still cant get scavanging to work these are my settings do they look correct?
i noticed directory partition is set to AD-legacy is this correct some of the screenshots i have seen online show this as AD-Domain not AD-legacy can anyone compare with there settings that function and let me know?
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

GordonAD-Legacy means they aren't in an application partition, which didn't come until after 2003, so I'm guessing this domain was built originally as Windows 2000 and then been upgraded. Nothing to worry about.
I have never done this but you can change this via dnscmd and the switch zonechangedirectorypartition
As far as scavenging, it takes 14 days for this to kick in. How long have you waited since you reconfigured the settings?

Ok, this oddity has been an annoyance since I did a
re-install of other CS3 components of my computer.
What's happening is this: even though I configure Fireworks
to not show the Start Page and the Guides, whenever I launch it to
start a new project they keep showing up. I uninstalled CS3
completely and re-installed Fireworks from scratch, but the problem
persists.
I don't remember seeing this behavior, hence why I didn't
think this was a bug. If this is a known bug, can someone confirm?
Otherwise, could someone point me to the location of these settings
on the disk (whether in a directory or the Windows Registry, I am
on XP) so that I can clear them once and for all?

I've never heard of this problem before. It could be that
your Fireworks
preferences file has gone wonky. Do a look through the
Application Data,
Fireworks directory for it. On my computer it is located in
the English
folder. Delete the file and reload Fireworks to restore all
defaults.
Once they have been restored, try turning off the start page
again.

How do I find out easily what our group policy settings are?
To cut a long story short we had a third party implement ZCM and GPs. We have too many and need to amalgamate them, but there is no documentation about what the settings are. I know there are various tools for AD that will give you a summary of applied GP settings, but that is not much help if they are being deployed via ZCM. Does anybody know of tool that we can run to find out what our GP settings are short of manually browsing through each field?
I was thinking of copying over the policy sets to AD and then running one of the AD tools, but if someone has a better idea I am all ears.

Third party Device settings after change from DCHP to PPPoE
Hi,
I have an AEBS 802.11n connected to a Dell Inspiron 6400 running Windows XP SP2.
I was using it with an elderly non-wireless broadband router for internet connection, but I have just changed to a broadband modem instead. This change has resulted in my having to change from DCHP to PPPoE, and enter my ISP password etc into my AEBS instead of my router.
I have wireless internet access via my AEBS, no problem. But since I have swapped it to PPPoE my computer isn't 'seeing' a locally connected device, which I have on an ethernet cable into one of the LAN ports on my AEBS. (The device is actually a 'virtual radar' radio receiver.)
I have checked the physical connections, which seem okay. And the device was being 'seen' correctly via the AEBS before I changed to PPPoE, so I suspect this change may have a bearing.
Can anyone suggest any other AEBS settings which may need to be altered to make the device 'visible' again please?

I have, in fact, now sorted my problem.
What I did was to reconfigure the IP range that my AEBS was covering. I did this in the AirPort Utility Internet tab by:-
1. Changing from DHCP to PPPoE
2. Doing that brings up four sub-tabs, one of which is DHCP.
3. On the DHCP tab, you can set the 'beginning IP address' and 'ending IP address', and I adjusted those so that they matched the assigned IP of my missing device.
As soon as I did that, the device reappeared.
(No... I wasn't clever enough to think of that myself. I received expert tuition from someone on the comp.sys.mac.hardware newsgroup.) -
I've istalled LR4 on a second computer - did it from the disk. What's the best way to get all my settings (metadata, presets, preferences, etc) to match the old computer? Can I just copy the LR Settings folder from the old computer and put it in the Lightroom 4 Catalog folder on the new computer? Could it be that easy!?

I have BT infinity, but can any one tell if BT (as my ISP) supports SSL (Secure Socket Layer) when using newsgroups?

It certainly works if the news Supplier supports it. Not sure who supplies the BT news feeds so cannot comment on the BT supplied news groups.

I have my main email address (a charter.net address), my gmail, and a newsgroup all on Thunderbird. Yesterday, when I clicked the gmail inbox, that little rotating circle icon started up, but nothing ever downloaded, no matter how long I let it spin. Now, whenever I put the cursor on any of the gmail folders (inbox, sent, etc.), the same thing happens. No gmail ever downloads, the icon just keeps spinning. I can download, etc. from my charter addy and get downloads from the one newsgroup I have via Thunderbird, but zip from gmail. I have not changed any settings, and if I go directly to google webmail, there are plenty of gmail messages waiting. I see some prior questions here about similar problems with yahoo and att.net, but the responses don't seem to apply. I'm at a loss. Any ideas for me to try? TIA!
What do you think about my removing the gmail account altogether from Thunderbird, closing Tbird, reopening, and then setting it up again? Since you said earlier than the emails themselves are separate from my profile, wouldn't they be preserved? The only thing I'm concerned about is that I've set up additional folders in my account that don't exist on the Google server, besides which I've deleted all emails from the server.

ICM settings wrong after migration
I did a Consolidate Migration of iPrint from Netware 6.5 SP8 to OES11 SP2, in preparation of Transfer ID migration, as recommended by TID7004109. Out of 117 printers, 8 failed to migrate. This is not a very big deal, I could re-create them manually on the new print manager. These were the printers where the printer object name did not match agent name - sometime in the past I had renamed the printer agent to force re-install of printers on workstations.
The bigger problem is that iPrint Client Management Settings are totally wrong. I've done some spot checks, and there are lots of cases where container OU=DepartmentX,O=Company has ICM settings with printers that belong to DepartmentY and DepartmentZ. I've looked at the migration log (/var/opt/novell/migration/MyProject/log/iprint.log) but I can't find anything regarding migration of ICM settings in the log.
Also it seems that some printers have ACL entries missing. My first impression is that ACL entries that are groups and users migrated successfully, but those that are containers did not...
Looks like I'll have to go through all the settings and verify them manually, unless someone can recommend a better approach? Fortunately the new server is still in pre-migration state, so there is an option to re-do it from scratch, if only I knew what to do differently next time.vatson,

Group Policy IE Maintenance settings not applied locally
Users with cached Group Policies, logging in "workstation only", are not receiving all of the settings specified.
I have followed the steps in TID 3655065, but security tab settings, and homepage are still incorrect.
Windows XP SP2
Zenworks 7
ZDM 7 SP1 IR4 HP4 applied
Workstation policy package GPO:
Computer and Security checked - with persist
User policy package GPO
User checked - with Cache set
When logging in to Novell client on network, the policies work fine.
Logging in workstation only is when the problem exists.
Two errors show -
Error 2 reading Cache User Settings
Error 0x2 refreshing User policy.

SLED11 SP1: CUPS printer settings after ZMD image installation
Using ZMD10 for creating an image of SLED11 SP1 with CUPS and iPrint
Client I noticed that the printer settings on the freshly installed
machine are off.
More specifically all documents are printed single sided even if duplex
printing is specified. Opening the CUPS configuration at localhost:631
and setting the printer options again fixes the issue, But then I do not
want to log in to every single machine in order to make this adjustment.
Creating an lpoptions file with lpoptions has no effect. So I'm looking
for a solution on how to make this work. Where does CUPS store the
printer configuration other than in the ppd files, lpoptions or
printers.conf? All these files are included in the ZMD image.
