BT reduction for being close to the exchange

Has anyone heard of a charge reduction that BT are giving to customers that live close to an exchange with LLU ?
djh22.

This must be a tactic used.
Apparently BT staff pay £1 for each service.
Anyway
We had a well dressed man come to our house and asked us if we were happy with our free line rental deal. I said we were paying for our line rental. I also asked which company he worked for. He insisted that he was from BT as he knew who we were (full names) and that we were not with another supplier. He produced a form that required my signiture to 'authorise' the free line rental. It was only when I said that I was going to phone BT to confirm this unwelcome visit that he confessed all and said he was from TalkTalk and that he still wanted us to sign the form!!!!
Sent him packing.
edit.
If there are many isp's at an exchange then you will get a better deal on your BB. This was confirmed by BT which IMHO is unfair as I don't have enough to qualify for the 'better' deals
Some can get opt3 for less than £16.00 pm

  • Too close to the exchange to get Infinity???

    Hi,
I wonder if anyone can verfiy te following please?.
I live on the outskirts of Reading and have been told by a neighbour, who managed to speak to someone at BT, that in our road we are never likley to be able to get BT Infinity the reason being as follows:
We are close to the Spencers Wood exchange and the lines to our road come directly from the exchange and not from a road side cabinet. In order to get Infinity the line must come from the cabinet and not the exchange.  Therefore although the exchange has been upgraded to be able to provide Infinity it is only possible to get this if you are supplied from a cabinet.  So, a number of houses round about us can get it, but we are unlikley to ever get it.
Is anyone able to verify the accuracy of this please, and are there any other options available?
    Thank you.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    BT Infinity runs off two kinds of VDSL types;
FTTC - Fibre to the Cabinet. This is where there is a fibre line from the Exchange to the street cabinet then normal copper from there to the house/business.
FTTP - Fibre to the Premises. This is where you have a fibre line all the way from the Exchange to the house/premises and doesn't route through a FTTC, aka RDSLAM.
If your line is an EOL (Exchange Only Line) then you will have to wait for a FTTP Service to become available in your area.

  • BT INFINITY - Too close to the exchange ?

I am aware that only certainly cabinets will be "upgraded" for availability for BT Infinity. Needless to say that if you are directly fed from an Infinity enabled exchange (Not via a cabinet) then you will be unable to get BT infinity. Is there a possibility that your line could be re-routed through an Infinity Cabinet to enable you to take advantage of the Infinity download and upload speeds ? - or even better is there any solution on the horizon for people who are directly fed from the exchange to be able to have access to BT Infinity. It seems at the moment that potentially the closest customers to an exchange will be unable to get BT infinity ? - any help gratefully received.

The closeness to the exchange has given you a better speed than most but your line is you line and cannot be changed.  could you imagine the chaos if you could decide where you wanted your line connected
from reading similar comments on the forum their is no solution at present

  • What are the procedure to be followed while restart the exchange server..?

    Dear All,
Pls provide the procedure to be followed while restarting the exchange server. i.e. what is the sequence for restarting and starting the exchange server.
    Regards
    R Nantha Ram

As suggested above no such procedure to be followed unless it is a DAG.
If you are running exchange and DC in one OS. Stop exchange services first then restart server. (commands below to stop exchange related services)
    net stop msexchangeadtopology /y
    net stop msexchangefba /y
    net stop msftesql-exchange /y
    net stop msexchangeis /y
    net stop msexchangesa /y
    net stop iisadmin /y
    net stop w3svc /y
This is bcz DC stops quicker than Exchange, therefore Exchange is unable to write to the domain controller and has to be be "killed" by the operating system.
This continual "killing" of the Exchange services, instead of allowing them to shutdown gracefully is not good for the database and is one of the prime reasons for recommending that Exchange is not installed on a domain controller.
A better option is to stop the services before you begin to shutdown the server. This will also cause the server to shutdown more quickly because it isn't waiting for the services to timeout. This can significantly decrease the shutdown/reboot time of Server.

I tried to import 2 photos from an email to iphoto. The photos now appear in iphoto as the latest imports, However, when I try to close iphoto or log off of my computer, I get a message box that says, " Photos are being imported to the photo library. Please wait for the import to complete."
I can't get out of iphoto or log off of my computer, or turn the computer off. How do I stop the import or log out of iphoto???

Try Force-quit from the Apple-menu to close iPhoto.

That is your mail account (or one of them anyway) and you need to get it from your Exchange administrator.

What Operating System are you running?
Mountain Lion there seem to be a glitch that continually ask this on quit.
You have  Apple Menu ()>force quit>iPhoto

After Force Quitting, as LarryHN recommended,
Select the iPhoto Library in the Finder. By default it is in your Pictures folder.
Ctrl-click or right-click the iPhoto lIbrary. Select "Show package contents" from the panel, that will pop up.
Look for a folder named "Importing" or "Import". Remove this folder, but don't touch anything else.
    Then launch iPhoto again.
If iPhoto now is working again, check the folder you removed, if there are any photos that you want to keep and save them.

  • No users are being migrated to the Unified Contact Store (UCS) for Lync 2013 - Exchange 2013

I'm having difficulty getting the unified contact store to work on a migrated Lync/Exchange environment. Both servers have been upgraded to 2013 CU2, and almost everything appears to be working properly...except UCS.
By default the global CsUserServicesPolicy has UcsAllowed set to True. In that mode, none of the Lync users were being migrated to UCS, so I set the global policy to False and created a new Policy called "AllowUCS" and set UcsAllowed to True. I then
assigned that policy to myself and a couple other test accounts. Still, my contacts are not being migrated to the UCS after logging in with Lync 2013.
Other Lync/Exchange integration features are working properly. I have set up OAuth, and it tests successfully, and Lync integration with OWA is working successfully, so I know at least some communication is happening properly between the servers.
Here is what I'm getting when I run some diagnostics from the Lync server:

Anyone know what I am missing?

    Hi,
Please make sure the user has been provisioned with an Exchange 2013 mailbox and has signed into the mailbox at least once.
If the user logs in with a Lync 2010 or earlier client, or if the user is not connected to an Exchange 2013 server, the user services policy is ignored and the user's contacts remain in Lync Server.
Please also check the registry key on the client computer:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync\<SIP URL>\UCS
If the user's contacts are stored in Exchange 2013, this key contains a value of InUCSMode with a value of 2165.

Open Activity monitor in Utilities, go to the CPU tab>All Processes, and note any process that would appear to be related to importing photos, such as iPhoto, and use Force Quit. This may only be a temporary fix, as it may start all over again when you reboot. If that happens, we need to do some more investigating.
Also, close all open Applications, then open Terminal in Utilities and copy/paste and hit return, then post the output of this command.

If you have redeemed the voucher for something separate from the computer, then it's a non-issue. If you redeemed it as a price reduction for the computer, then they will return only what you paid less the coupon.

  • I followed the instructions for making an APP TAB and succeeded BUT everytime I close Firefox, the app tab disappears upon re-opening. Can someone help please? I held the control button plus I clicked and selected the "Pin..as app tab".

As my question asks, I followed instructions for creating an APP TAB for my web mail account, and succeeded but each time I close and re-open Firefox, the app tab disappears. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong please?

For better or worse, I think it's part of the design for the app tabs to be window specific. I know my first reply didn't solve your problem, but that was one way that worked for me to get the app tabs back when I restarted Firefox. Also I noticed the tag for this post is Firefox 4. I've only tried it with Firefox 5.
I agree with you that the way it's working isn't ideal. For the time being, I've stopped using the app tabs. Maybe they'll fix/improve it soon.

Alex, thanks for the reply but it did not answer my question. I only want to turn off notifications & interruptions while I am on the phone. For this desired result, the only way the Do Not Disturb feature would help is if I manually turned it on before each phone conversation. Since my phone rings at random times, this is not possible. Basically, I just want to "opt out" of call-waiting. When I had a landline I never had call waiting. I don't want to be interrupted. But beyond that, even if I am being interrupted why are these notifications preventing the other party from hearing my voice?

  • Calendar Free/Busy permissions being ignored for users migrated from Exchange 2003, fine for new users created on Exchange 2010

I have uncovered a situation where it seems the free/busy permissions are being ignored for users that were migrated from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010.
I have the default permissions set to only show Free/Busy Time, not Details.  However if I look at the calendar for a users who was migrated from the old Exchange 2003 server, I can see details.  If I look
at a newer user who was added directly to the Exchange 2010 server, I (correctly) only see the times and "Free" or "Busy", not the specific details.
I verified the permissions on the migrated mailboxes many different ways (Exfolders, cmdlets, etc) and all signs point to only allow showing Free/Busy Times, but alas, I can still see the Details as well.
My users are using Outlook 2010.

    Hi,
Does this issue occur on Outlook only or both Outlook and OWA?
Since you have double checked the permissions via multiple methods, it seems there is nothing problem on permission. Please make sure the migration from Exchange 2003 server completed successfully.
If in OWA everything goes well (cannot see details), it should be an issue on the Outlook client side.
I suggest run Outlook under safe mode to avoid some AVs and add-ins.
I suggest re-create profile to refresh the caches.
    Thanks
