Bucket vs Node Determinsm

Hi Guys,
     We were wondering how a backup node is promoted to a primary in the event the primary fails. We appreciate that in a paritioned cache locating an object by key is deterministic in that the net result is knowing which node to go and fetch the data from.
     The question is though, if we have a large amount of data on a cache node and that cache node dies, must we expect the data to be transferred to another node before the primary continues. We sort of understand that the backup becomes the primary, but what happens exactly? We're wondering how this is achieved without having to stop the world while we move all the data around.
     Would it be fair to assume therefore that when you compute the location of the data you resolve the bucket but each node has a list of who owns each of the buckets? Thus allowing you to say, designate backup buckets and primary buckets and just to move things between lists? Therefore a rebalance can be a relativly fast operation with the new creation of the backup is an asynchrnous background task.
     Kind Regards,
     Max

Hi Max,
     Good to hear from you.
     > We were wondering how a backup node is promoted to a primary in the event the
     > primary fails.
     When the primary leaves the cluster, the direct result is a "member left" message within the cluster service on each member. The other services are likewise notified, and each conducts failover in its own specific manner. The partitioned cache service has a data structure (one that maintains information about ownership and backups, etc.) that includes references to the now-departed member, and as that departed member is removed from the data structure, the backups are automatically promoted. In other words, the chain of ascendency is set up well in advance, so the member leaving is actually a relatively small event in and of itself.
     For a particular member that was the first backup for some of the data managed by the primary, as it adjusts that ownership and backup data structure, it must also copy data from what is called a "backup map" into what is called a "backing map". (The "backing map" is what provides the actual data storage for a cache service, while a "backup map" is literally just a backup.) This operation can be more expensive, particularly if the backup is on disk, etc.
     > The question is though, if we have a large amount of data on a cache node and that

     No. The new backups are made asynchronously, albeit as a higher priority operation.

     It should only slow down a bit (due to the backup operation occuring), not stop. Is that what you see?
     Peace,
     Cameron.

  • Cockpit - authorizations with hierarchy

    Hello,
    I have a problem in a cockpit, and it is relating to authorizations with hierarchy.
    I have an object of authorization already defined with certain criteria (bucket and node of the jerarquiaa that only I want that agrege deposit a user) this object in a rol, unitedly with a profile of visualizing the cockpit. When I enter with the user to visualize the cockpit I enter to all the nodes, my question is: Why not respecting my authorization for the node of the hierarchy that alone I want to show?
    thank you.

    To deploy Oracle RAC on Virtualized Env must be done carefully, because RAC/Clusterware is more sensitive to bad performance. (split-brain occurs due I/O or CPU starvation).

  • Strategy escalation not appearing in the escalation node of UWQ.

    Hi,
    Module: Advanced Collections
    Customer has done the following test case:
    There are three work items in the collection strategy. First two work items are automatic and completed successfully. Third work item is manual and need to be escalated to manager, if it is not closed within time limit.
    Escalation for third Work Item has been setup. On the expiry of the time limit, system sends a email notification to the manager of the collector but this escalation is not appearing in the escalation node of the collectors work queue.
    Checked the collections implementation guide and found the following:
    "In the Escalation section, enter Yes and a closure time if you want an "automatic"
    notification sent to the collector’s manager if the work item is not completed in the
    specified time period"
    It has not specified whether the escalation appears in the workqueue node of the manager.
    I would like to know whether the escalations should appear in the escalation work queue node or is this an intended functionality.
    Thanks and regards,
    Hareesh

    Hareesh,
    As I see the work items a resource after esclation will only in the escalated node but not in the queue of the manager.
    My requirement was to show the UQW items of the subordinates of a manager in the UWQ apart from his own. I am not sure the R11.10 and above with some patch levels has that functionality out of the box, but I had to change the metadata view defnition to show that info in the UWQ.
    Going back to your question, escalations use task architecture. As the task owner is still the resource who holds the task of completing it, the task is not "assigned" to the manager but just a mail is sent keeping in the different bucket.
    Hence that **May** not show in the manager queue. But if you change the metadata views, you can show all of my subordinates tasks to the manager as well which includes the escalations.
    You can try using the task escalations screen to reassign the owner to be manager thus taking the task out my list and showing it up in my manager's list.
    I have not tested this but you can try this option and use as a process step.
    Thanks
    Nagamohan

  • Dates - Creating an InfoObject with W/E Buckets

    Hi Guys,
    I have 'Pricing Date' in an DSO and I want to create a 'bucket' of weeks for a range of pricing dates. When the user runs the queries, they will have a variable to enter a range of Pricing Dates and the output will be the 'bucket weeks' for those dates eg. run for 30/10/07 - 21/11/07 and the report shows w/e 3/11/07, 10/11/07 etc with values below this.
    I was thinking of a new InfoObject for 'Weeks' in the Cube, that will hold the w/e ending date, and will link to the 'Pricing Date' in the Transformation. Would this solution work and if so, can someone help me with the code?
    Thanks
    Scott

    Hi Scott,
    you 3 alternatives.
    1st: create a hierarchy on your pricing date. As nodes you enter the 'bucket weeks' and assign the relevant dates to it. Maintain the hierarchy into the past as wide as required and into the future...
    2nd: use your idea of adding a new field. In a routine you need to call fm DATE_COMPUTE_DAY with the pricing date and check the result. The fm will return the weekday as 0 - 6 for sunday until saturday. So with that you can easily calculate your 'bucket week'. But remember, you need to reload your cube to have that information available for the already posted data. If you are running bi7.0, you might use the remodelling tool for that and there is no need to reload.
    3rd: to avoid a reload, just add a field for the 'bucket week' to the cube. Use it as virtual characteristic and derive the value at query runtime by implementing the same fm....
    kind regards
    Siggi

    Sampled Session History
    The sampled session history is constructed by sampling
    the target session every 1 second. The sampling process
    captures at each sample if the session is in a non-idle wait,
    an idle wait, or not in a wait. If the session is in a
    non-idle wait then one interval is shown for all the samples
    the session was in the same non-idle wait. If the
    session is in an idle wait or not in a wait for
    consecutive samples then one interval is shown for all
    the consecutive samples. Though we display these consecutive
    samples in a single interval the session may NOT be continuously
    idle or not in a wait (the sampling process does not know).
    The history is displayed in reverse chronological order.
    sample interval: 1 sec, max history 120 sec

  • Why does Coherence node restart due to presumed inactivity

    I noticed this message in one of the nodes in a 2 node Coherence cluster. The service restarted the particular node immediately. To me it did not look like the node was inactive. What could be other reasons why this node might have been restarted?

    Mark,
    I increased the buffer size to 2MB - the datagram test goes thru fine. I then restarted my application and the distributed Coherence cache. But ran into the same problem with one of the nodes restarting roughly 20 minutes after starting the cahce server. The application is doing gets and puts via multiple threads - roughly 2/sec into 2 Coherence caches.
    I have not been able to attach files when posting into this forum - hence i have cut and pasted portions of the log from node1 and node2 around the time that i noticed the restart.

  • Exist a Jtree node.id or something like this ?

    I would want to retrieve a node using a unique 'id', for example the absolute index (into the total nodes count)
    Is there something like this ?
    Can I add a particular property to a node ? ( for example this 'id' if it does not exist )
    Another question :
    If I want to implement a search code, this 'id' can be useful, or must I transverse the whole Jtree
    Thanks

    Hello.
    Do the following:
    1. Go to the Apple Menu at the top left of the screen
    2. Select Software Update...
    3. Install any updates that are found.
    If the Amazon issue continues after these updates, then do this:
    1. Open Safari
    2. Erase any web address you have currently showing (for example www.apple.com or www.google.com)
    3. Type in www.amazon.com
    4. That should take you directly to amazon.com
    It should look like this in your Safari::

  • Hier Node with character (e.g. 11100A) is not getting displayed in report

    Hi All,
    I have loaded the Finanacial Statement Version Hier in BI. It is perfectly loaded in the InfoObject 0GLACCEXT.
    Some Hier Nodes contain charcters in the Node name like 1100A and 1100B and rest are all number like 1100, 1200, 11000 etc.
    While I run the Report the Hier Nodes with nos (like 1100, 11000) are perfectly getting displyed in the report. But the Hier Nodes having the characters (like 1100A and 1100B) are not getting displayed into the Report and all the GLs under it are going into Unassigned node in the Reports.
    Plz help me.
    Regards,
    Sandeep

    Sandeep,
    Your hierarchy is made up of characteristics with the values 1100, 11100A etc.
    In your hierarchy is RSH1, does each node have the specific characteristic value Node 1
    -1100
    -11100A etc
    Or is it a range i.e.
    Node 1
    1000 : 11100A
    Regards
    Gill

    Hi,
    Is there a "elegant" way to make blink a treeview node?
    I am thinking to use a timer with the collection of nodes that I want to make the blink effect, and update the icon ...

    Hi,
    You can develop your custom control for this purpose. The logic you mentioned was correct. Here is a sample control that I developed by the logic you mentioned.
    public class BlinkingTreeView : TreeView
    private Timer t = new Timer();
    private List<TreeNode> blinkingNodes = new List<TreeNode>();
    public BlinkingTreeView()
    t.Interval = 1000;
    t.Tick += new EventHandler(t_Tick);
    bool isNodeBlinked = false;
    void t_Tick(object sender, EventArgs e)
    foreach (TreeNode tn in blinkingNodes)
    if (isNodeBlinked)
    //update Icon
    tn.Text = tn.Text.Substring(0, tn.Text.Length - 1);//to test
    isNodeBlinked = false;
    else
    //update Icon
    tn.Text = tn.Text + "*";//to test
    isNodeBlinked = true;
    public void AddBlinkNode(TreeNode n)
    blinkingNodes.Add(n);
    public void RemoveBlinkNode(TreeNode n)
    blinkingNodes.Remove(n);
    public void ClearBlinkNodes()
    blinkingNodes.Clear();
    public List<TreeNode> BlinkingNodes
    get { return blinkingNodes; }
    public int BlinkInterval
    get { return t.Interval; }
    set { t.Interval = value; }
    public void StartBlinking()
    isNodeBlinked = false;
    t.Enabled = true;
    public void StopBlinking()
    t.Enabled = false;
    just show me how to use BlinkingTreeView class. i will have tree view which will have few node and few nodes may have few child nodes. now how to achieve by this class BlinkingTreeView and show me how to blink few specific node not all. thanks

    better to come with code. first populate tree view with some dummy node this way
    Root
           Child1
                    Child1-sub1
                    Child1-sub2
           Child2
                    Child2-sub1
                    Child2-sub2
    now blink Child1-sub2 & Child2-sub1. please come with code. thanks

  • "Error 7 occurred at Invoke Node..." when attempting to open .vi for editing

    I am attempting to open a vi for editing, and instead the vi is attempting to execute.  I get the error:
     "Error 7 occurred at Invoke Node in BuildTargetBuildSpecification.vi->BuildXFS.vi"
    Possible reason(s):   LabVIEW:  File not found. The file might have been moved or deleted, or the file path might be incorrectly formatted for the operating system. For example, use \ as path separators on Windows, : on Mac OS, and / on Linux. Verify that the path is correct using the command prompt or file explorer.
    Method Name: Project: Open
    When I close the Error Message dialog, Labview terminates.

    Hi R.Jay,
    Error 7 generally occurs when trying to create an executable when there is an extra instance of a top-level vi.  You may need to remove the file as a support file (but leave it as the top level vi).
    Are you trying to run an executable that has already been created?  Unless you have already built an executable, it should not automatically run when opened.  Also, was it built in a previous version of LabVIEW?  Sometimes this error can be seen when you upgrade to a newer version without compiling.

  • How to use attributes from different context nodes in one view?

    I am VERY new to the concept of CRM and currently working on creating an alternate version of the BP_HEAD_SEARCH. With help from SAPPRESSs book 'SAP CRM Web Client' i was ble to create my own simple Z-component.
    However after going back and forth the book and the forum (including this [article|https://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/CRM/Howtoaddanexistingfieldtoasearchpageofadifferent+component]) i was not able to find a solution to my problem. My current search uses BuilHeaderAdvancedSearch as context node for searching. But the search should also be able to use attributes from BuilActivity, which is directly related to BuilHeader. I can't seem to find a way to get attributes from BuilActivity into the search window of my component without having to change SAP-Standard.
    Is this really the only way? Please advise on possible code and insertion point.

    Any suggestions?

  • How can I use one hierarchical table as a node of another hierarchical tabl

    I have a requirement where I have two hierarchical tables and one table should  work as node for other table . How to achieve this??
    To elaborate more the structure is like
    Main Table (Company Structure)
    Sub table “Consolidation Groups” which has got hierarchical structure
    Sub table “Entity” which is also hierarchical.
    The Entity table should act as a node for table “Consolidation Groups”
    How can I achieve this functionality??
    Thanks
    Suvarna

    you misunderstood me apparently. I said you can't organinze to tables so one serves as a node's value of the other. Let me show you wnat I suggested by an example.
    First table has such values:
    -A
    |-B
    |-C
    and the second one is
    -x
    |-y
    |-z
    -p
    |-r
    |-s
    I thought you wanted to confine relationships between them so fo B node be able to select only x's branch and for C - only p's branch. If it's similar to the truth then let's create another table with two fields. Field one points to table containing capital letters and field two - lower case letters. Both fields are of type lookup pointing to an hierachial tables. Now when you populate this table you'll create records like (I list two columns):
    B - y
    B - z
    C - r
    C - s
    from your orinal table from now you should point to the above table. So instead of having two fields each pointing to its own table and compeling you to think how to organize two hierarchies, now you have only one field pointing to a table with all valid combinations. When you populate this table though YOU have to decide what such combinations are. It may make sense (if you have different users) to restrict access to this table on read-only level  for regular users to preserve the valid combinations.
    Hope it helps but if I understood your wrong give a concrete example.

  • How to read the content in one node of XML in Java? Pls help

    1. Create a GUI form which gives the ability for user to choose a XML file (ok)
    2. Load XML and return the file (ok)
    3. Read the file from node to node to create the node in Tree View (?!)
    Please help me, and if you are enough kind, please give me an small example to easy understand. Thanks in advance.

  • Can there be multiple ASM instances on single node?

    Hi,
    Can there be multiple ASM instances on single node?
    This one says No : http://www.freelists.org/archives/oracle-l/02-2008/msg00317.html
    And This one says Yes : http://www.databasejournal.com/features/oracle/article.php/3571371
    Thanks in advance.

    ...that document doesnt say you cannot have multiple ASM instances on a node. It says "...ASM, +you only need one ASM+ instance for that computer, to manage the two database instances that use ASM."
    The fact that you only need one - and I cannot think of a good reason to have more than one - does not preclude the fact that you do seem to be able to have multiple ASM instances on a single node, each looking after its own set of disks and diskgroups.
    Again - I cannot think of a good reason to do so though!
