Bug in Oracle Reports

Hi All!
You can crash your reports server calling report jsp and passing greater sign (>) as the value for any parameter :-( Does anybody know how to fix it?

Can you provide some more details - what error are you getting and how do you know that the server has crashed?
You should also probably contact Oracle Support and work with them to get a bug filed.
Thanks,
Danny

  • A bug in ORACLE Report query??

    I need to modify my report by adding a description. I can run my query from SQL statement without a problem. However, when i put it in the report, strange result is happening.
    The result for 1 record used to be 1 page only and now went up to the number of record in the child table.
    Parent query:
    SELECT event_id FROM events;
    One of the child query is as follows:
    SELECT event_id, decode(m_event , 0, ' ', 'X') e_major_ind
    FROM event_responders
    I need to make a modification by adding following to the query:
    (select decode (major_event, 0, ' ', ': '||meaning )
    from domain where domain = 'EVENTRESPONDERS_MAJOR_EVENT' and value = major_event)
    So currently I have the following:
    SELECT event_id, decode(m_event , 0, ' ', 'X') e_major_ind,
    (select decode (m_event, 0, ' ', ': '||meaning )
    from domain where domain = 'MAJOR_EVENT' and value = m_event) e_major_desc
    FROM event_responders
    As soon as I added that subquery, I got an unlinked icon in the query box in the Data Model page.
    Any idea? Is this a known bug? or Am I missing something?
    Thank you soo much for your help.

    SELECT ER.EVENT_ID,
           DECODE(ER.M_EVENT, 0, ' ', 'X') E_MAJOR_IND,
           DECODE(ER.M_EVENT, 0, ' ', ': ' || DOM.MEANING) E_MAJOR_DESC
      FROM EVENT_RESPONDERS ER, DOMAIN DOM
    WHERE DOM.DOMAIN = 'MAJOR_EVENT'
       AND DOM.VALUE = ER.M_EVENTIf you can't get it by joining to your reference code table, use a column formula to return the description.
    Good luck.

  • Is this Oracle Reports bug – "break order property" in "group above" report

    Is this Oracle Reports bug – “break order property” in "group above" report
    Could anybody confirm that in "group above" report, we could only order the brake column's values with ""none" or "ascending" or "descending" provided by "break order property"?
    In the following example, “Dept” is brake column. Oracle Reports allows us to order values in “Dept” with “descending” provided by “break order property”:
    Dept 30
    job ename salary
    xxx xxx xxx
    xxx xxx xxx
    Dept 20
    job ename salary
    xxx xxx xxx
    xxx xxx xxx
    Dept 10
    job ename salary
    xxx xxx xxx
    xxx xxx xxx
    or “ascending” provided by “break order property”:
    Dept 10
    job ename salary
    xxx xxx xxx
    xxx xxx xxx
    Dept 20
    job ename salary
    xxx xxx xxx
    xxx xxx xxx
    Dept 30
    job ename salary
    xxx xxx xxx
    xxx xxx xxx
    I need to do:
    Dept 20
    job ename salary
    xxx xxx xxx
    xxx xxx xxx
    Dept 10
    job ename salary
    xxx xxx xxx
    xxx xxx xxx
    Dept 30
    job ename salary
    xxx xxx xxx
    xxx xxx xxx
    Could I do this? Could anybody confirm that we could never ever do this, or If yes, how?
    Millions of thanks for advice.

    Why should that be a bug? You have a custom requirement and have to find a way to fulfill it. But, what is your actual sorting order? Do you have only this three departments? If so, you could add an addtional column in your query like
    DECODE(DEPT,  20, 1, 10, 2, 30, 3, 4) SORTINGput that column in the same group as dept and sort after that new column.

  • Reporting bugs in oracle products

    Is there a webpage whre I can report bugs in oracle
    products.
    Thanks,
    Artur...

    The only place I'm aware of short of calling Oracle is metalink.oracle.com but you have to have paid for Oracle support to access
    the web site. From there you can file a TAR(Technical Assistance Request) and a support person will research your problem and
    either find an existing fix or classify it as a new bug.

  • Oracle reports 6i Bug

    Hello,
    In Oracle Reports Builder : suppose you have two queries, Department and employe thus two groups DEPT_GROUPE and EMP_GROUP.
    If you link the two queries using DEPT_ID : The link will be well generated between the queries (the linked columns are there). Your report will run. Fine
    The problem occurs if after linking your queries, you decide to change the detail query (adding a subselect in the select part, thus, transforming your detail query to non-linkable query).
    In this case, Reports Builder will not complain, more than that, it will keep all the properties of your previous link as is. The only thing the report builder will do is marking your query with the non-linkable symbol.
    The problem is : if your query was non-linkable before you make the link, Reports builder will complain with a message (... non-linkable, do you want to cretate a group link ?) and it will not put the linked columns in the properties of the link.
    For the first case, I was expecting Report Builder to raise the same info message and especially remove the linked columns in the properties of the link.
    Mohamed Dadi

    maybe its a bug, but since reports 6i is desupported, there won't be any fix for it. and as you know how to avoid it, simply do so. ;)

  • Oracle Report Builder Bugs

    If the JSP file generated by Report Builder contains the statement,
    <systemParameter name="DESTYPE" initialValue="Screen" display="yes"/>
    you will receive the following error message when you try to run the report in Web Layout:
    javax.servlet.jsp.JspException: REP-56092: No class defined for destination type Screen
    I found the only solution to be to remove the offending statement, or set its display parameter to no. (The statement can be found in the JSP file under the <data> tag.)
    This statement displays the Runtime Parameter Form dialog which is intended only for Paper Layouts. Seems as if Report Builder is reading a Paper Layout statement from the JSP file when it is executing a Web Layout command.
    Another minor problem occurs when you open a report and attempt to display it in Web Layout before connecting to the database. When the Connect dialog appears, the mouse pointer remains as an hour glass.
    The Report Builder came packaged with Oracle Developer Suite 10g, but the Report Builder's Help About shows version 9.0.4.2.0. However, I noticed that other copies of Oracle Developer Suite 10g came packaged with Report Builder version 10g. I can't say whether the above problems apply to these later versions of Oracle Builder or not.

    Hi,
    There's a dedicated forum for Oracle Reports and I would suggest you to post your questions there to get answered by those who are experienced in Oracle Reports.
    I did work with Oracle Reports a long time ago, so as I remember, you have to create a link between colb and colc fields. When colb is null then this link will pull over colc and print it in place of colb.
    Hope this helps.

    # Subsetting TrueType Collection fonts:
    # Typically, a TTC font contains several fonts in one file. For example,
    # the TTC file, msgothic.ttc consists of three fonts in the order -
    # MS Gothic, MS PGothic and MS UI Gothic. To subset MS PGothic, the
    # entry in the PDF:Subset section of uifont.ali would be:
    # "MS PGothic" = "msgothic.ttc,1"
    # NOTES ON PRECEDENCE OF PDF SECTIONS:
    # If you have entries for a same font in many PDF sections, then Font
    # Aliasing entry will take precedence over Font Subsetting entry. Entries
    # in Font Subsetting will take precedence over the entries in Font Embedding
    # section.
    # Generic entries for a font must follow more specific entries for the same
    # font. For instance, if you want to subset helvetica Plain, helvetica Bold,
    # helvetica Italic and helvetica Bold-Italic fonts, your entries must be:
    # [ PDF:Subset ]
    # helvetica..Italic.Bold.. = "Arialbi.ttf"
    # helvetica...Bold.. = "Arialb.ttf"
    # helvetica..Italic... = "Ariali.ttf"
    # helvetica..... = "Arial.ttf"
    # If helvetica..... entry appears in the top of the list, all the styles of
    # helvetica font in the layout will be subset as helvetica Plain font.

  • Oracle Reports - Multi lingual pdf - jvm error

    Hi all,
    We are trying to develop a multilingual pdf report in oracle reports 9i. When we do font subsetting or embedding we get the error:
    stackpointer=3bb03200
    JVMXM004: JVM is performing abort shutdown sequence
    this error is consistent for font embedding, but for subsetting this error comes randomly. We are unable to find out any pattern of the error. Can any one pls give us an update on this.

    1) Please try in latest patchset 9.0.2.3
    2) There is recently a very similar bug logged on the issue by a customer ( do not know whether it is by you :-))

    (Not yet fixed, this bug in initial description phase)
    (It gives same error)
    If this is critical to you then can try getting in touch with Support to escalate the priority of the bug.

  • Error in job execution in oracle reports

    Hi,
    The end user is getting the following error when executing a job in Oracle reports.
    " RWCGI GET JOB OUTPUT
    Cannot get output of Job ID 4 you requested on December ,08 2008 , 11:35:18

    Can you please help .PLEASE !!!

    Hi
    Metalink is reporting some similar errors, please see that:
    Cause
    SSO turned on for one component only, either Forms or Reports.
    This problem has been reported and is documented in an unpublished bug.
    Solution
    To take advantage of SSO, out-of-the-box, the SINGLESIGNON parameter in the
    rwservlet configuration file (rwservlet.properties) is set to YES to indicate
    that you will use single sign-on to authenticate users. You may change this to
    NO if you choose to not use single sign-on. If you choose NO, the Reports
    Server will use its own authentication mechanism to authenticate users (i.e.,
    the mechanism used in Reports6i). The rwservlet configuration file is usually
    found in the ORACLE_HOME\reports\conf directory. This value is usually
    commented out after installation however the default value is YES.
    This is the expected behavior. For the Forms/Reports integration, Forms will send
    to Reports thecurrent SSO user. However, with this particular configuration, you
    still log into SSO to run Reports. Thus, nexttime you run the form, you are logged
    into SSO and thus things work because Forms passes thatSSO user info to Reports.
    The way to not have the report run the 2nd time would be to log off of SSO when the first
    form was exited, but that defeats the purpose of SSO in the first place!
    So enable for Forms and Reports SSO or disable SSO for both.

  • Bug in Oracle JDBC Pooling Classes - Deadlock

    We are utilizing Oracle's connection caching (drivers 10.2.0.1) and have found a deadlock situation. I reviewed the code for the (drivers 10.2.0.3) and I see the same problem could happen.
    I searched and have not found this problem identified anywhere. Is this something I should post to Oracle in some way (i.e. Metalink?) or is there a better forum to get this resolved?
    We are utilizing an OCI driver with the following setup in the server.xml
    <ResourceParams name="cmf_toolbox">
    <parameter>
    <name>factory</name>
    <value>oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSourceFactory</value>

    We get a deadlock situation between two threads and the exact steps are this:
    1) thread1 - The OracleImplicitConnectionClassThread class is executing the runAbandonedTimeout method which will lock the OracleImplicitConnectionCache class with a synchronized block. It will then go thru additional steps and finally try to call the LogicalConnection.close method which is already locked by thread2
    2) thread2 - This thread is doing a standard .close() on the Logical Connection and when it does this it obtains a lock on the LogicalConnection class. This thread then goes through additional steps till it gets to a point in the OracleImplicitConnectionCache class where it executes the reusePooledConnection method. This method is synchronized.
    Actual steps that cause deadlock:
    1) thread1 locks OracleImplicitConnectionClass in runAbandonedTimeout method
    2) thread2 locks LogicalConnection class in close function.
    3) thread1 tries to lock the LogicalConnection and is unable to do this, waits for lock
    4) thread2 tries to lock the OracleImplicitConnectionClass and waits for lock.

    We used a documented option to abandon connects in the case of an unforeseen error. The consequence of using this option was not a graceful degradation in performance but a complete lockup of the application. The scenario in which we created a moderate number of abandoned connections was a rare error scenario but a valid test.
    How could this not be a bug in the Oracle driver? Is dead-lock a desireable outcome of using an option? Is dead-lock ever an acceptable consequence of using a feature as documented?
    Turns out other Oracle options to recover from an unexpected error also incur a similar deadlock (TimeToLiveTimeout).
    I did a code review of the decompiled drivers and it clearly shows the issue, confirming the original report of this issue. Perhaps you have evidence to the contrary or better evidence to support your statement "not a bug in Oracle"?
    Perhaps you are one of the very few people who have not experience problems with Oracle drivers? I've been using Oracle since 7.3.4 and it seems that I have always been working around Oracle JDBC driver problems.
    We are using Tomcat with the OracleDataSourceFactory.

  • BUG in Oracle SQL Developer 3.0.04 on the "generating DLL" with comments?

    I'm newbie on oracle, but I think that I found out a bug in Oracle SQL Developer version 3.0.04 on the "generating DLL" tool using "comments".
    I will describe the steps that I gave:
    I created a view, but after I test it I had to change my “where” condition, so I comment the old code and then I wrote the new “where” condition below. After I done that I tried to look at the sql code of my view using “generating DLL” tool, but oracle sql developer only shown me half of the code, a lot of code were missing. Then I began with some test trying to understand what happen and I notice that if I put an invalid sql code in my comment the generating DLL start working with no problems, for example(pseudo-code):
    (COMMENT WITH VALID SQL CODE the "Generating SQL" don't work:)
    CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW <user>.<view_name> ( <column1>,<column2> )
    AS
    SELECT column1, column2
    FROM table1
    INNER JOIN
    (SELECT
    FROM table2
    INNER JOIN .....
    INNER JOIN ....
    --where time_stamp = (select max(time_stamp) from .....)
    WHERE time_stamp >= TRUNC(sysdate)
    ) t1 ON t1.ID = ....
    AND ..... >= TRUNC(sysdate)
    ORDER BY ....
    Generating DLL returns this(when the error occurs):
    CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW <user>.<view_name> ( <column1>,<column2> )
    AS
    (COMMENT WITH VALID SQL CODE the "Generating SQL" work with no problems:)
    CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW <user>.<view_name> ( <column1>,<column2> )
    AS
    SELECT column1, column2
    FROM table1
    INNER JOIN
    (SELECT
    FROM table2
    INNER JOIN .....
    INNER JOIN ....
    --where
    WHERE time_stamp >= TRUNC(sysdate)
    ) t1 ON t1.ID = ....
    AND ..... >= TRUNC(sysdate)
    ORDER BY ....
    I believe that "Generating DLL" tool have some problem with the comments, I also used /*...*/ to comment but the problem is still active.
    I notice as well that if I started to add some more comments along the code, the conditions migth change, so I think the problem is related with "comments" code.
    Would you mind telling me if this is a real bug or if I'm doing anything wrong.
    Thank you in advance,
    Rodrigo Campos

    Hi Rodrigo,
    Thank you for reporting this. The only bug I see currently logged on a comment affecting the generated View DDL involves ending the last line of the definition with a comment, which treats the ending semi-colon (even if on a different line) as part of the comment. That is actually related to a low-priority bug against an Oracle database API.
    Unfortunately, your pseudo-code is a bit complex. Trying a few quick, simpler tests against the standard HR schema did not reproduce the issue. I tried INNER JOIN, and nested SELECTs. It would help greatly if you could provide a test case compilable against one of the standard schema, like HR or SCOTT.

  • Specifying the output order of elements in XML using Oracle Reports.

    Hi,
    I am developing an Oracle Reports report, using Report
    Builder 6.0.8.17.0 on WinNT. The requirement is that the report
    will only ever be used to generate XML output.
    However, due to a bug in the XML Parser at the other end,
    it's necessary to have certain elements appear in the XML before
    others.
    e.g. This simplistic example shows XML output from Reports
    runtime, which looks something like this:
    <DEPT id="10">
    <NAME>Government</NAME>
    <EMP id="4435">
    <SAL>12000</SAL>
    <ENAME>Harry Boland</ENAME>
    <EMP>
    <EMP id="8643">
    <SAL>21000</SAL>
    <ENAME>Michael Collins</ENAME>
    <EMP>
    <EMP id="9900">
    <SAL>47000</SAL>
    <ENAME>Eamonn de Valera</ENAME>
    <EMP>
    <LOCATION>
    <ADDRESS type="street">Kildare St.</ADDRESS>
    <ADDRESS type="city">Dublin</ADDRESS>
    </LOCATION>
    </DEPT>
    However, the application that is parsing the XML fails due to
    the fact that it expects the LOCATION element to be the first
    within the DEPT element. i.e. before the NAME or any of the EMP
    elements.
    The way I have developed this is by creating a master query
    which creates a master group, G_DEPT, with two column, ID and
    NAME, and two detail queries and corresponding detail groups, EMP
    and LOCATION. These groups are joined to the master using the
    datalink facility in Report Builder.
    Is there any way in Report Builder I can specify that the
    LOCATION element is to be output for each DEPT element before any
    other element belonging to DEPT?
    Thanks,
    Iibhear.

    The order of the elements is determined by the order of the columns in the Data Model. Note that you can also use the "Exclude from XML output" property to completely omit columns form the XML output.

    This applies to Reports 10g. I don't know if it also works in 6i.

  • Bug in Oracle JDBC Drivers with {ts ?}

    Oracle fails to set bind variables correctly when using the {ts ?} in an insert. It works ok if you use {d ?}.
    Ex:
    String st = "INSERT INTO BL(NM,TSTAMP) VALUES (?,{ts ?} )";
    System.out.println(dbConn.nativeSQL(st));
    java.sql.PreparedStatement stmt = dbConnn.prepareStatement(st);
    stmt.setString(1,"test");
    stmt.setString(2,"2000-08-18 09:33:45");
    int xx = stmt.executeUpdate();
    Oracle Reports:
    INSERT INTO BL (NM,TSTAMP) VALUES (:1,TO_DATE (?, 'YYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS'))
    ConnectionPoolManager failed:java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00911: invalid character
    Notice the ? doesn't change to :2.
    Whoops.
    Also when does Oracle plan to implement {fn }
    scalars. There are work arounds but they are not portable. If not soon we will switch our suggested database for our clients.
