Bug? iTunes forced me to encrypt backup - I don't want this. How can I stop it?
It's all in the title really...
When I just did the latest sync of my wife's phone, iTunes insisted that the backup needs to be encrypted. I looked down, the option is unchecked. It has never been checked. I unplugged the phone. I shutdown itunes and rebooted. But when I plugged her phone in again, it again has said I MUST encrypt this backup. Why have I never needed to do this before? Why has apple decided I must do this now?
So reluctantly I put a password on it, thinking that once it's on, I can uncheck it later.... nope...
So I enter a password, which I REALLY don't want to do.
I sync, backup complete... The encryption option is now dulled, I can't uncheck it...
Changing the password does nothing to remove it because you can't leave the new password blank.
I have not forgot my password, I just don't want one.
and please, no suggestions or comments that I should encrypt them all, it's up to me. I just don't want it for either of our phones!
edit: and now it's done it to my phone too... This is BS...

Why does this phone now REQUIRE the backup to be encrypted?
I hope someone has a solution here, because I've already researched people losing data because of forgetting passwords and the like... I just don't want this stuff stuffed up in any way, I need to keep this as simple as possible for my wife!
Ok, I'm back home now, and I've uninstalled the profile that was required by the M1 carrier in Singapore (free plug). Doing this has allowed me to make an unencrypted backup of my phone! YAY!!!
It has also allowed me the option of UNCHECKING the encryption option on my wife's phone...
As you can see, I can uncheck it, and it gives me an option to enter the password to UNLOCK the encryption.
This has now been done and encryption removed!!!
Message was edited by: iMadivad - in trying to unlock the backup, I initially used the wrong password. I had actually put the innitial password in incorrectly. It took quite a few goes at getting it right, I had mistyped a double character sequence. I had at least 10 goes at getting this right, it appears there's no limit to the number of times you can try and get the password right - I suppose, this is why there are brute force attacks on unlocking this file out there.

If you don't have an icloud account, then icloud is not the thing that's popping up a window.
If you are being asked to enter a password when accessing itunes, then the problem may be that you have purchased items (apps, songs, etc) on the device that were purchased using a different itunes account than the one you currently have defined on your device.
Purchased items are forever associated with the itunes account (the apple ID) that was used to make the purchase. If you change the ID on the device, you won't be able to update any of them. You'll have to purchase them again. -
I have updated to iTunes 10 and now my unchecked songs are playing... I don't want this and can't figure out how to have it like it was before (not playing unchecked songs). Please help! I leave the unchecked songs in there b/c there will come a point in time where I want to listen to these songs but right now I don't.
yes, 10.3.1, iTunes already restarted, menu settings already like that and still it will play all unchecked songs (including the checked songs of course). Why even have check and unchecked if the program is going to play all of them anyway?!

my i phone is telling me I need to do a restore. Screen shows itunes logo and thats it, even after turning off and on again.
if do this how can I avoid losing all my pictures videos etc?Pictures/Videos in your camera roll? If so, & not backed up or imported to your computer, they are gone. There's no supported way to recover them now.

I sent my iPhone to Apple for repair. Before I sent it I did a backup (on the 7th of August). Today I got it back, but my iTunes only shows me a backup from 21st july and from today. How can I access my backup from 7th of august?
You should really read the manual.
"How do you restore from backup? "
Restore. When given the choice, choose to use backup.

They would only be where you put them. What program did you use to import them? Pics/vids taken with ipod are not part of the sync process at all. You should be importing them just as you would with any digital camera.
If you did not import them, then they are not on your computer. -
Itunes downloaded 122gb in a single day last month, which pushed me well over my internet data cap. My podcasts are set to keep all unplayed podcasts, and to automatically download the most recent ones. These settings are what I've used successfully for close to two years now.
Today I installed Windows 8 RP, hoping to resolve the issue (and of course play more with W8RP). Started it up, subscribed to a podcast, the newest episode was downloaded (i had watched it on their website previously), i right clicked it and selected 'mark as played', it disappeared and was not redownloaded. As intended. So then i subscribed to my other 30ish podcasts and observed the downloads page in itunes for a bit. One completed, disappeared and never reappeared anywhere. It wasnt in podcasts at all. I waited for another one to complete, same thing happened. But when it disappeared from the downloads queue, the first one reappeared at the bottom of the downloads queue.
Any idea what's going on? googling didnt help in the slightest.Your post creates more questions than I could imagine possible.

So, you are trying to use Windows 8 to resolve the issue of going over your data cap, is that correct? (Surely not!) But, watching, so it's a video - and then letting iTunes download the same video as a Podcast is the reason you're going over your data cap, isn't it?
But frankly, I'm confused about the nature of your issue. Is it that you go over your data cap, or that iTunes (and I have to assume you mean iTunes and not Windows 8 [RP]) is downloading the same Podcast twice?
Why do you need to manually set a Podcast to "mark as played", iTunes will do that for you when the Podcast ends? What has Windows 8 got to do with any of this?
And why are you subscribing to your other 30ish Podcasts after downloading Windows 8 (yet more of your data usage allowance)? You imply that you regularly listen (or watch) these Podcasts, so presumably you are already subscribed to them, so why subscribe again? Are you doing this in Windows 8 as well as iTunes?
Sorry if I sound negative; perhaps it's me, but I really don't understand what exactly you are doing, which suggests that whatever it is, is the reason for your issues. Maybe someone else will see the light and add to this post and sort out your problems, but if not, then perhaps it's because they are as confused as I am and can offer no useful advice. -

I got an Ipod touch 4g for Christmas and am having a few problems. Firstly, everytime I plug my ipod into my laptop onto itunes to put music onto it, all of my apps on my ipod get deleted and I can't go on them. Have you got any tips?

Thanks xxxIt appears that you previous synced the iPod with another iTunes library/computer. You can only sync with one iTunes library. If yuy try to sync with another library the iPOd will be erased and its contents replaced with the contents in the iTunes library of the computer.

i backup my iphone on my pc and copy backup file into drive D then i setup new OS on my pc. after that i copy the backup file into itunes backup folder but itunes can't find the backup file to restore my iphone. how can i restore my iphone?

I found the answer to my question.
When you attach a device (iPhone, iPad) to your Mac, in iTunes 12 in appears as a tiny icon in the second "row" of the iTunes display. Click the icon and the familiar iTunes display for the device appears. From there, on the Summary screen, you can see the dates of the backups of the device (iCloud and backup to the computer). You can also use the button to backup to the computer. -
I just bought a new Iphone and when I connected it to itunes and I downloaded the backup from my last device, now I can't pass this step and every time I connect it to itunes is the same thing. And I can't download any app because problems with my account regarding the credit card but the information is correct and it says it is not!!!
You'll have to contact iTunes store support regarding your credit card information problem: http://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html. I'm not clear on what you're saying about your backup. Are you saying that when you connect to iTunes it's asking you to restore from backup even though you already have?

How can I stop my MacBook's iTunes from asking if I want to delete tracks each time I press to play one? Is it a bug from iTunes's version 11.0.5?
Since I dowloaded and installed iTunes' version 11.0.5 on my MacBook, it is behaving strangely:
- displaying an alert message asing if I want to delete tracks each time I press to play one
- not playing tracks in the order they're displayed in my library, sometimes jumping from one playlist to the other
I did check my settings and preferences for playing tracks and tried changing some parameters in them, however it still doesn't help.
It seems to be a bug in iTunes' version 11.0.5 — if you had a similar experience and found how to solve this discomfort, thanks for contacting me.Oui, je parle français. I just bought a new iPhone and accidentally backed it up with my old iPhone backup, I do not want this. I lost everything on my new phone and I need it back. PLEASE HELP! This includes pictures and texts, etc.
So just to be clear, when you say "just bought" how long ago was that? Is it on this new iPhone that you had pictures, texts, etc that you want? Were you backing up to iCloud or onto iTunes?
This may not help for everything but if you go to iCloud.com and log in, are you able to find your pictures there? -

No you cannot. If the phone is in recovery mode, all data on it are lost. However, I'm sure you've been making frequent backups as intended, so you should have minimal data loss.

My itunes library opens by itself every 10 minutes, how can I stop this?
Several days ago my itunes library started opening on top of whatever I was doing without any prompting from me. It initially started this while I was playing a game on my pc, now it does it all the time regardless of what I am doing. What is causing this action and how can I stop it?
Does is completely restart or just go into sleepmode? If sleepmode: go to Settings - General - autolock and change that setting.
If it just restarts:
1. Try doing a hard reset:
Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/wake button simultaneously for about 15 seconds and release when the Apple logo appears.
2. If that doesn't solve the issue, backup the device and restore it as new.
In that case, use: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137
NB: set up as a NEW device because a software issue will be in the backup. If the issue persists after restoring as new, you should offer the device for service.
