Bug with binding unnamed parameters

Bug report (I must post it in another place?).
If OracleCommand.BindByName == true and any of binded parameters has empty name, ExecuteReader raises the exception:
Exception AccessViolationException:
Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt
I think, this exception must be more intelligible :)

Hi,
Theres a bug aleady filed on this (5447495), but it hasnt been addressed yet.

    I think we are found a BUG using BC4J with bind variables in a view object.
    If the bind variable appear in the WHERE condition two or more times at
    the beginning of the query the above error occur.

  • Bug with binding / statement cache?

    And the next trouble... :(
    When Sql on two different OracleCommand's is equals, but parameter types differs, exceptions raised.
    Two different exception raised, depends of AddToStatementCache property, on call ExecuteReader or on call Read().
    Test case:
                OracleConnectionStringBuilder csb = new OracleConnectionStringBuilder();
                csb.UserID = "xxxxxx";
                csb.Password = "xxxxxxx";
                csb.DataSource = "xxxxxxxx";
                OracleConnection conn = new OracleConnection(csb.ToString());
                conn.Open();
                string sql = @"SELECT :v1 FROM DUAL";
                // Create first command
                OracleCommand cmd = conn.CreateCommand();
                cmd.BindByName = true;
                cmd.CommandText = sql;
                // Bind number parameter
                OracleParameter p1 = cmd.CreateParameter();
                p1.ParameterName = "v1";
                p1.Value = 1000.123m;
                cmd.Parameters.Add(p1);
                // Select number value
                OracleDataReader reader1 = cmd.ExecuteReader();
                reader1.Read();
                decimal d1 = reader1.GetDecimal(0);
                // dispose first reader and command
                reader1.Dispose();
                cmd.Dispose();
                // Create second command with equals Sql
                OracleCommand cmd2 = conn.CreateCommand();
                cmd2.BindByName = true;
                cmd2.CommandText = sql;
                // if uncomment next line, exception (1) changes to exception (2)
                cmd2.AddToStatementCache = false;
                // Bind string parameter
                OracleParameter p2 = cmd2.CreateParameter();
                p2.ParameterName = "v1";
                p2.Value = "sdf g sdfg sdfg sdfgsdf";
                cmd2.Parameters.Add(p2);
                // Select scalar string
                OracleDataReader reader2 = cmd2.ExecuteReader(); // Exception (1)! ORA-01475: must reparse cursor to change bind variable datatype
                reader2.Read();  // Exception (2)! ORA-01722: Invalid number
                string s2 = reader2.GetString(0); Well, few questions:
    * How i can force "reparse" cursor, if need???
    * Why statement cache dont use parameter signatures to distinguish statements with equals SQL and different parameter types??
    * Where i can post that bug (and some other) to quick answer from ODP.NET support? In this forum only? Anywhere else?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    I tried your code, but get the 1722 every time, and dont seem to be able to get the 1475.
    I think the explanation here is that ODP uses the command text only in determining whether to pull the statement from the cache (ie, not the data types, as you've seen).
    With respect to your questions:
    1) I'd have thought con.PurgeStatementCache() would have done it, but that didnt work for me. I’ve tried Statement Cache Purge=true in the connect string, cmd.AddStatementToCache=false, and con.PurgeStatementCache(), but none of them make the code work. I'm guessing the statement is getting added to the cache every time even though we're doing our best not to, and that’s why the problem behavior. I'm looking into that further.
    2) I'd assume that development just didnt take this scenario into account. Typically the data type of a bind variable in any given statement wouldnt change.
    3) If you have an Oracle Support contract, just log a SR via Metalink (http://metalink.oracle.com)

  • 1.5.1: Bug with single keystroke bind value being displayed but ignored

    I just ran into a bug with using with bind values (run as statements) using SQL Developer 1.5.1.54.40, JDK 1.6.0_04, Win XP SP 2.
    If the bind value was previously Null (NULL checkbox checked), then typing one (and only one!) character into the Value field displays the character and deselects the NULL checkbox but is ignored when running the statement - the bind variable is treated as Null. Running the statement again redisplays the bind dialog and the NULL checkbox is deselected but there is no value in the Value field.
    For example: select rpad(dummy, :length, dummy) from dual;
    When running this as a statement and typing a value between 0 and 9 into the Value field results in null (ie select rpad(dummy, null, dummy) from dual). Running again and leaving the Null checkbox unchecked and typing the single character again produces the correct result (ie 9 produces 9 Xs). Running again and checking the Null checkbox and typing the single character again produces null again.
    This only occurs where you type a single key stroke in your bind value. If you type two characters and then delete one, the bind value is used correctly.

  • How to implement list of values with bind parameters

    Hi All,
    Please give me details about how to implement list of values with bind parameters.
    I have implemented with below things.
    1) created lov view object with query like select meaning, lookup_code from fnd_lookup_values where lookup_type=:1;
    2) The above vo added to applicationa module.
    3) created Controller class in the co class written code in processRequest();
    String vLookupType=pageContext.getParameter("LookupType");
    Serializable params={vLookupType};
    am.invokemethod("Initialize",params);
    4) In AM Impl Class invoke the VO
    5) In VO Impl class executed the query..
    But the above process working fine but when i give the value in lov text field like 'C' then press tab button the result will not showing instead of that i am getting error message, i want to implement standard lov functionality while implementing query with bind parameter.
    any thing reqired to add the code to controller for search criteria..
    Thanks

  • Problem while Binding multiple Parameters to View Object[Solved]

    Hello,
    I am facing problem while binding multiple parameters with different data types in View Object query. For example suppose I have following query in my view object.
    SELECT Header.ADDED_BY
    Header.BATCH_ID,
    FROM BATCH_HEADER Header
    WHERE :1='deptAdmin' and Header.BATCH_ID
    in
    select batch_id from batch_header_dept_mapping where dept_id in(SELECT * FROM TABLE(CAST(:0 AS TABLE_OF_VARCHAR)))
    I am able to pass the Bind variables of Array type for : 0 , using Steve's ArrayOfStringDomain example. (ArrayOfStringDomain) .
    But after passing value to second bind parameter ie.. :1 .
    I am getting the error as follows.
    ## Detail 0 ##
    java.sql.SQLSyntaxErrorException: ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes: expected - got CHAR.
    I tried to set
    setWhereClauseParam(1,11); // 11 is Number
    setWhereClauseParam(0,arr); // arr is arr = new Array(descriptor,conn,deptid); for in parameter.
    But of no use , Please let me know if any thing missing form me or have any another solutions. Also please provide me any example if have.
    Thank you,

    hi.
    but when using non-Oracle named parameter binding styles as you've done (ie. , :1), regardless of what number you give each bind variable, they are sequenced 0, 1, 2 etc. As such your bind variable :1 is the 0th parameter, and your bind variable  is the 1st parameter.Your statment is correct.
    :1 i used was actually on 0th position and :0 was on 1 position. Like you said in sequence 0,1,2 etc. Now i get the answer and i corrected My mistake by assigning right values to right binding variable. and problem just solve.
    Thanks Chris.

  • Query with bind variable, how can use it in managed bean ?

    Hi
    I create query with bind variable (BindControlTextValue), this query return description of value that i set in BindControlTextValue variable, how can i use this query in managed bean? I need to set this value in String parameter in managed bean.
    Thanks

    Put the query in a VO and execute it the usual way.
    If you need to, you can write a parameterized method in VOImpl that executes the VO query with the parameter and then call that method from the UI (as a methodAction binding) either through the managed bean or via a direct button click on the page.

  • SLOW report performance with bind variable

    Environment: 11.1.0.7.2, Apex 4.01.
    I've got a simplified report page where the report runs slowly compared to running the same query in sqldeveloper. The report region is based on a pl/sql function returning a query. If I use a bind variable in the query inside apex it takes 13 seconds to run, and if I hard code a string it takes only a few hundredths of a second. The query returns one row from a table which has 1.6 million rows. Statistics are up-to-date and the columns in the joins and where clause are indexed.
    I've run traces using p_trace=YES from Apex for both the bind variable and hard coded strings. They are below.
    The sqldeveloper explain plan is identical to the bind variable plan from the trace, yet the query runs in 0.0x seconds in sqldeveloper.
    What is it about bind variable syntax in Apex that is causing the bad execution plan? Apex Bug? 11g bug? Ideas?

    Patrick, interesting insight. Thank you.
    The optimizer must be peeking at my bind variables with it's eyes closed. I'm the only one testing and I've never passed %anything as a bind value. :)
    Here's what I've learned since my last post:
    I don't think that sqldeveloper is actually using the explain plan it says it is. When I run explain plan in sqldeveloper (with a bind variable) it shows me the exact same plan as Apex with a bind variable. However, when I run autotrace in sqldeveloper, it takes a path that matches the hard coded values, and returns results in half a second. That autotrace run is consistent with actually running the query outside of autotrace. So, I think either sqldeveloper isn't really using bind variables, OR it is using them in some other way that Apex does not, or maybe optimizer peeking works in sqldeveloper?
    Using optimizer hints to tweak the plan helps. I've tried both /*+ FIRST_ROWS */ and /*+ index(ps pk_persons) */ and both drop the query to about a second. However, I'm loath to use hints because of the very dynamic nature of the query (and Tom Kyte doesn't like them either). The hints may end up hurting other variations on the query.
    I also tested the query by wrapping it in a select count(1) from ([long query]) and testing the performance in sqldeveloper and in Apex. The performance in that case is identical with both bind variables and hard coded variables for both Apex and SqlDeveloper. That to me was very interesting and I went so far as to set up two bind variable report regions on the same page. One region wrapped the long query with select count(1) from (...) and the other didn't. The wrapped query ran in 0.01 seconds, the unwrapped took 15ish seconds with no other optimizations. Very strange.
    To get performance up to acceptable levels I have changed my function returning query to:
    1) Set the equality operator to "=" for values without wildcards and "like" for user input with wildcards. This makes a HUGE difference IF no wildcard is used.
    2) Insert a /*+ FIRST_ROWS */ hint when users chose the column that requires the sub-query. This obviously changes the optimizer's plan and improves query speed from 15 seconds to 1.5 seconds even with wildcards.
    I will NOT be hard coding any user supplied values in the query string. As you can probably tell by the query, this is an application where sql injection would be very bad.
    Jeff, regarding your question about "like '%' || :P71_SEARCH_SOURCE1 || '%'". I've found that putting wildcards around values, particularly at the beginning will negate any indexing on the column in question and slows performance even more.
    I'm still left wondering if there isn't something in Apex that is breaking the optimizer "peeking" that Patrick describes. Perhaps something in the way it switches contexts from apex_public_user to the workspace schema?

  • Detail view with bind variable. TreeTable not showing all detail result.

    I’m having trouble with treeTable using detail view with bind variables and where clause defined in VO definition.
    Both, master and detail view objects, base on the same entity and have the same condition in where clause. The view objects also have bind variables, which are set in prepareRowSetForQuery() method.
    Again, these are two different views, that get different result, based on value of one of the bind variable.
    When I show results in two different tables on jsf page, where master table has "RowSelection" set on "single", all results are displayed in detail table.
    But when I use treeTable, only the first result of the detail is shown.

    I tested it in applicationModule and it works, but i think that's the same as two tables on a jsf page.
    This is the order in which overridden methods are called in ADF BC or two tables on jsf page
    when clicking on row in master table.

    I also noticed, that if detail view doesn't have user bind variables, the tree works fine and is shown even in ADF BC (aplication module).
    I guess we loose a tree, when using bind variables in detail view object.
    Is there a way around it?

  • Duplex Printing Bug with HP OfficeJet Pro L7680

    Well - Duplex printing works but the back page will only print with binding on the top, Binding on the side does not work! Minor bug but still a bug at least with the HP!!

    Kev,
    A couple of points - assuming your using the HP OfficeJet Printer - I am assuming your connecting it via the Ethernet point which means it is communicating via IP. That being said - here is what I ran into.
    When I first added the HP Printer - Leopard wanted to configure the printer via BONJOUR. I went ahead and let it do that - however printing was terrible!!!! I could send jobs to the printq, but the only way they would print was if I turned the printer on/off again - and the the would magically start printing. Then the printer would go "offline" and I was forced to do this same on/off routine.
    So - I went back into add printers - and let the dialog box sit there for a little while and all of the sudden the list updated with an HP2A7180 - Kind - IP. I selected this printer and then told it to use the HP driver via the Print Using - drop down selector and my HP has been working fine since (minus the duplex).
    Additionally it installed an configuration utility which allows me to monitor inks, settings and such.
    Hope this helps - Bill

  • How to bind korean parameters in XSQL????

    Hi,
    I am binding english parameters in XSQL very well.
    But when I am trying to bind japaneese or korean it is not displaying rows.
    I am giving the sample code.
    hello.xsql
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="euc-kr"?>
    <xsql:query connection="scs" xmlns:jsp="http://java.sun.com/JSP/Page" xmlns:xsql="urn:oracle-xsql" row-element="ADDRESSES_ROW">
    select * from emp where name='{@name}'
    </xsql:query>
    Request: http://hello.xsql?name=JOHN ::: working fine
    Request: http://hello.xsql?name=koreanName :::Not working
    Please help me in this regard.
    How to bind name in korean in XSQL servlet..
    Regards,
    sudhi

    Do you have nlscharset_12.jar in your classpath?
    what web server are you using XSQL with?
    Have you tried using real bind variables like this:
    <xsql:query bind-params="name">
    select * from emp where ename = ?
    </xsql:query>
    Does a query like:
    <xsql:query bind-params="name">
    select * from emp
    </xsql:query>
    return the korean data to the browser correctly?

  • Virtual Interface generation bug with NetWeaver ?

    I use the Web Service generation wizard to generate a virtual interface which exposes methods in an EJB. As one of the parameters I pass a simple java bean, lets say:
    public class StatusCode
        private String name;
        private boolean buggy;
        public String getName() {...}
        public void setName(String newName){...}
        public boolean isBuggy() {...}
        public void setBuggy(boolean trueOrFalse){...}
    When I look at the virtual interface generated, especially at the Types tab, my boolean attribute is not included.
    If I change the getter to "getBuggy()", the attribute is included in the VI. The only problem is that the typical Java Bean framework, say from sun or ibm, always map 'boolean' getters to 'isSomething()' and not 'getSomething()'.
    Is this a bug with NW? Is there a fix or workaround for this ?
    My version of NW:
    Version: 2.0.7
    Build id: 200407270250
    Thanks in advance,
    Mark
    (If this is not the right forum, could someone suggest where I can post this question?)

    Hi.  As of Netweaver 2004s,  the virtual interface piece has be absorbed into the creation of the web service definition, so there is no need to create it as well.   When you are getting the 403,  how are you trying to run this, using the Web Service Homepage?  If so, you will need to configure what j2e engine that you want to use to use.  You can do this in WSADMIN under the Administration settings.   Check that this is set.  YOu must know the URL of your j2e engine.

  • Help with bind variables

    Hello I'm new to .net and I'm trying to work with bind variables
    I keep getting the ORA-01036: illegal variable name/number error.
    here's my code, can somebody help me out and show me what am I doing wrong?
    Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
    Dim drLocation As OracleDataReader = getSCLocation("SOMEBODY")
    End Sub
    Private Function getSCLocation(ByVal contactName As String) As OracleDataReader
    Dim drLocation As OracleDataReader
    Dim connString As String = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("scConnString").ConnectionString
    Dim conn As New OracleConnection(connString)
    conn.Open()
    Dim queryString As String = "select a.location, a.location_name from locationm1 a where a.primary_contact_dept in (select b.dept from contactsm1 b where b.contact_name = p_contactName)"
    Dim p_contactName As New OracleParameter
    p_contactName.OracleType = OracleType.VarChar
    p_contactName.Value = contactName
    Dim cmdLocation As New OracleCommand(queryString, conn)
    cmdLocation.Parameters.Add(p_contactName)
    drLocation = cmdLocation.ExecuteReader(CommandBehavior.CloseConnection)
    Return drLocation
    End Function
    Thanks
    Peter

    never mind i got it by playing around with it
    had to change the way to start the bind variable
    Dim p_contactName As New OracleParameter("p_contactName", OracleType.VarChar)
    p_contactName.Size = 140
    p_contactName.Value = contactName

  • LOV Bug with rendering result?

    Hey,
    I'm attempting to create a basic LOV using either the "ADF LOV Input" or "ADF LOV Choice List" components.
    When I try to use these components with a small set of data they behave as one would expect, however I run into some odd behavior when the list behind the LOV is large and the component is required to fetch additional rows of data as the user scrolls through the options.
    With the LOV Input, as I scroll through the data it is retrieved fine, however when I select a value from the bottom half of the list, the component on the page does not update with the selected value and the console in JDeveloper throws the following [truncated] stack trace:
    SEVERE: Server Exception during PPR, #1

    It looks as though the View Object on the back-end is getting populated with the correct value selected from the list (I have a second, cascaded LOV built off the value selected which is populating with the correct data) however the front-end is not getting populated with the correct data.
    With the second LOV component (ADF LOV Choice List) I am completely unable to scroll through the list of values; the component hangs as soon as it attempts to fetch any more data and throws the following [truncated] stack trace in the JDeveloper console:
    SEVERE: Server Exception during PPR, #2

         at org.apache.myfaces.trinidad.render.CoreRenderer.encodeEnd(CoreRenderer.java:208)
    If this is indeed a bug with the ADF components themselves attempting to lazy-load the values in the list, is there a way to force the component to simply load the entire list up-front instead of as the user scrolls? This would be an acceptable workaround for my application.
    For the record, the View this page is based off runs flawlessly in the BC tester. Also, incase this helps any, the LOV is not based on any sort of Fk link / association. It is built upon accessor attributes (and bind variables and view criteria in the case of the mentioned cascading LOV).
    Thanks in advance for the help,
    Chris

    Chris,
    can you provide instructions how to reproduce this based on the HR schema (e.g. Departments/Employees table). If its easier for you to create a testcase, please send it to frank. /nimphius /@ oracle.com (please remove blanks and slashes) in a zip file, where you rename the "zip "extension to "unzip"
