Built-in isight on ACD not working.

Hello,
I have a 24 inch mini-display port ACD w/built in isight for my mac pro 2008 harpertown. Problem, when I go to put my computer to sleep, the isight stops working, meaning I don't get any camera at all present on ichat av. Meaning, when I wake my computer, the isight doesn't come on requiring me to reboot my computer. Does anyone have an answer as to why the built in isight on the new 24 inch cinema display refuses to come on after waking the computer from sleep?

You're welcome, Prittstickqueen

re: reinstall, I doubt that Reinstalling Mac OS X will cure a failure of System Profiler to recognize iSight, but I think it is worth a try because it is the only thing I can suggest other than going back to the store.
I have seen more users report fixes from proper application of the Combo Updaters (which I know you have already tried) than from reinstalling the OS. However, if you decide to try a reinstall, you can use the Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo Update (iNtel) to get back to 10.4.9 in one update step. That would give you the benefit of one more try at a "Combo" fix in addition to trying the reinstall that Apple suggests. (Repair permissions before and after the Combo install.)
Once fixed, other than future possible conflicts, I would think your iSight should work without further problem. If the OS fix or other suggestions here do not resolve your problem, your iSight is likely one of the few that needs professional repair by an Apple-Authorized Service Provider Technician.
If you are too far from anywhere, all Macs come with complimentary support during the first 90 days of ownership."
Following the links there lets you "Learn how to contact Apple for support and service." Therefore, if you cannot get back to the Apple Store, you have other options for support, but I hope you do not need to exercise them.
Good luck with the continued troubleshooting. We will watch for your status update.

  • My built in isight camera is not working since loading mavericks

Can anyone help me please? I can't seem to get the isight built in camera to work on my 27'' imac since I installed Mavericks. First noticed this when using skype but it also doesn't work on facetime either.
    Any suggestions.
    Thank you
    Nick

If restarting Mac does not resolve the problem, use Disk Utility in OS X Revovery  to repair your startup disk.
If the camera is still not working properly, follow Apple's http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090 suggestions.
(Over time, Apple has changed the built-in camera's name on newer Macs from "iSight" to "FaceTime" and then to "FaceTime HD."  Regardless of the name of your Mac's built-in camera, the same info and troubleshooting applies.)
If the problem the problem continues after using all the above, the last thing you can try is to reinstall OS X 10.9.
If that fails, too, contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.

  • Built-in isight just absolutley not working.

    Hello everybody.
I have been racking my brains now for about a week over the lack of fuctionality of my isight camera. I bought my MacBook at the end of January, and then, on the 21st March, the camera just stopped working. In PhotoBooth I get the message "in use by another application..", and no other application recognises it.
On the 22nd of March, the camera worked again, briefly, by "opening with Rosetta". Someone had mentioned this somewhere. I don't know what Rosetta does, but this only worked once for me anyway.
For information, my isight camera does NOT appear in System Profiler. I suspect this is not good news.
Having browsed the articles in this forum, I have performed all the following:
Updated to all the latest software.
Checked to see whether the problem is user-specific (it isn't)
Have created a new new account (didn't help)
Permissions repair (lots of times by now)
    Safe boot and restart
    Restarts (lots of those too)
    A disk repair
    PMU resets
    PRAM resets
Have looked for odd files. "MyDSC_905" seemed to be problematic, but it's not on my computer.
Apple_isight.kext IS on my computer, but whether it's functional or not is another matter.
Now although I'm good at following these sorts of instructions, I don't really know what I'm doing, so any explanation would be good! I try not to do anything too drastic.
As concerns USB devices, the only ones that have EVER been attached to this mac (and because it's fairly new, I can remember) are two Canon Digital cameras and a USB mouse. Neither of these devices have caused problems in the past.
However, I do have the distinct advantage of when my isight stopped working. I have recently been searching the computer for updates and things that took place on this date. The ones I have found are:
    2007-03-21 21:29:42 +0100: Installed "QuickTime" (7.1.5)
    2007-03-21 21:29:46 +0100: Installed "AirPort Extreme Update 2007-002" (1.0)
    2007-03-21 21:30:03 +0100: Installed "iPhoto Update" (6.0.6)
    2007-03-21 21:30:23 +0100: Installed "iTunes" (7.1.1)
    2007-03-21 21:34:29 +0100: Installed "Mac OS X Update (Intel)" (10.4.9)
But unfortunately, I think I probably tried to get everything up to date as a means of trying to get the isight working again, so alas! it was probably not the update's fault.
Does anybody else know of any software/hardware conflicts/issues/terrors/bugs that I should be aware of? I think I have exhausted the web as a source of reference on this issue. I would like to now rack people's minds. Or is it perhaps just time for me to send the computer back, since I'm still well within my extended warranty? (However, this is really a last resort, because I need/want my computer almost constantly for work and play)
Any suggestions, humourous or not, greatly and utterly appreciated in this dull and webcamless life;)
    Many thanks.

    Welcome to Discussions, babybella03
    (1) If merely restarting your Mac does not correct the problem, try all relevant suggestions from:
      http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
    (2) If your iSight problem occurs in more than one app and more than one user account, the reset suggested there often restores proper function of inbuilt iSight.
    (3) However, if after carefully following all the suggestions in the "How to Troubleshoot iSight" article, your built-in iSight still does not work, and if it does not show as a USB device in your Mac's System Profiler, yours is most likely a hardware problem. In that case, contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.
    (4) If your iSight is working with Apple's apps but you are still having difficulty with a video-enabled website (like "myspace") while no other apps are using iSight, your browswer's Flash plug-in settings may need to be configured to allow your iSight to function with there.
To determine whether this is your problem, navigate to the video website of interest. If you do not immediately see a pop-up "Adobe Flash Player Settings" dialog box, put your mouse pointer over the video window that is playing and control-click. This should open the dialog box.
Adjust the "Settings" in the Flash dialog box as follows:
    • Click on the webcam icon.
    • Select the "USB Video Class Video" Camera setting.
(External iSight users would need to set the webcam camera setting to "IIDC Firewire Video".)
    • You can then click on the microphone icon to set your "Microphone," "Record Volume," and "Reduce Echo" settings.
    • You should also click the privacy icon and verify that the "Allow" button is selected.  If "Deny" is selected, you will not be able to send or recored video or audio.
    • Close the dialog box and see if the video website works for you now.
If the above does not solve your problem, see the website help or FAQ section to determine how to make this site work with your system. Many live video sites have unique requirements. The FAQs or Help links at their sites should give you the best answers for your compatibility, configuration, and operating questions concerning their particular operations. Some of these sites offer email or live chat technical support or their own dedicated user Discussions fora to provide help using their particular websites.

  • Built-in iSight camera doesn't work all the time...?

This started on iChat... When starting a video conference I see a black picture, the green light turns on but my buddy only see's a video of herself and is still able to hear me. I tried opening the audio/video preferences and the preview is still black. I also tried opening photobooth and it shows a black picture as well. This only happens on occassions, it works most of the time but this problem seems to be occurring more often. I've tried all the troubleshooting listed but nothing seems to work..?

"I've tried all the troubleshooting listed but nothing seems to work..? "
Please list them. This will avoid the +"been there, done that"+ scenarios when users try to provide you with troubleshooting solutions.
Otherwise, +"since you've tried all the troubleshooting listed"+ then send your computer to your local AASP or contact AppleCare if you are still under warranty.

  • Built in iSight is no longer working after hard drive was replaced

I have a 2008 MacBook Pro that has served me well up until recently.
I had my hard drive replaced about a week ago and now I've noticed that my built in iSight is no longer working.
It doesn't work with any application or on any user.
The green light no longer comes on.
I noticed this the other day on my gmail account, no longer showing the camera icon next to my name when i'm online.
So I tried pulling it up on photobooth and ichat etc...no luck.
    What should I do?
    Please help.
    Thank you.

Take your MBP back to whoever replaced the drive and ask them to resolve the rest of the problem.
(Before taking it in, make a current backup if you have added ANYTHING since you got the new drive)
If you want to try some things on your own before you take it back for professional resolution, here are a couple of relatively simple things you can try:
Reset the SMC.  Instructions here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Troubleshoot Flash as Adobe Suggests: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/908/cpsid_90893.html

  • Built in Factetime HD Camera not working after SSD upgrade

    Hey guys,
So I went ahead and removed my optical drive and replaced it with a 2nd drive caddy bay and an SSD. I've rechecked all my wiring and everything twice and disconnected everything and reconnected it to make sure it's all correct, and it is.
    Here's my issue
My Facetime HD camera is saying "camera is not connected" in all applications. Skype, Facetime, Photobooth, iMovie, and even under USB in "System Information" it's not showing up. My computer is completely up to date (All software updates have been performed), and I've reset my SMC, and NVRAM multiple times with no result.
A breakdown of what I've done these past few days:
I added a 2nd drive caddy and installed the SSD there, and made that my system disk drive (OSX is running from that drive). I formatted the old drive and it's still in its original location.
Any idea of what is wrong or how to fix the problem?

You may have already tried a few:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090 How to Troubleshoot iSight
my isight camera is not working-not recognised with photo booth or ichat
    ===================
To fix your iSight, shut down computer. Reboot in safe mode (press power button and then hold shift key down). After computer boots, restart again.  Hopefully, your iSight will start working again.

Try zapping the PRAM.  See KB Article http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11243 OS X Mountain Lion: Reset your computer’s PRAM
If you are still under warranty and/or have AppleCare, call them.  Let them deal w/it.

  • IMac 27': iSight camera is not working but it is recognized in Utilities

My iSight camera is not working. I'm sure it is not a hardware problem, because when I reinstalled MacOs Lion it worked for some time. I'm sure is a software problem. When I run FaceTime appears the message that "No camera is connected", also in Photo Booth is not working.

    (1) First, be sure connections and other issues from
here are eliminated as possible problem causes:
           • http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3544
    (2) Then, if Apple's http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
suggestions do not help you, (the "reset" suggested there
often restores normal function,) continue with the following.
    (3) Use Disk Utility to repair permissions and then
download and apply the 10.7.2 Combo Update:
         http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1459
    (4) Repair permissions again immediately following the
system restart that completes the Combo update.
Properly applying the Combo version of updates can sometimes correct problems like yours.

  • Built-in camera macbook pro not working

    Hi guys,
lately the built-in camera on my macbook pro hasn't been working properly: at first it works normally then after a while it stops (the green light stays on) and when I open photo booth or other programmes it says "camera not connected", how can I fix this?
    Thanks

One of these will fix your problem:
    (1) If restarting your Mac doesn't fix the problem,
    (2) use Apple's http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090.
(BTW - Apple has changed the built-in camera's name on newer Macs from "iSight" to "FaceTime" and then to "FaceTime HD."  Regardless of the name of your built-in camera, the same info and troubleshooting applies.)
Be sure to test more than one Apple app in more than one user account.  Do NOT use the "Guest" account for this test.  If you do not have more than one user account for the testing, create a new one now.  If you need help, here's how to do it in your Mac OS:  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11468  (A "Standard" account is all you need for testing.)
    (3) If your cam still does not work properly, use Disk Utility to repair permissions.  Then download and apply the latest Combo Update for your OS.  Currently, the latest ML Combo is here:  http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1571
Repair permissions again immediately following the system restart that completes the update.
    (4) The only other action I know that you can do on your own is to use OS X Recovery to completely reinstall your Mac OS.
    (5) If none of the above suggestions resolve your trouble, contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider to have your Mac professionally serviced.

  • ISight camera/iChat not working HELP!  Also, how can I get PhotoBooth?

    Hi,
A friend and I are tring to use iChatAV but it just does not seem to work.. I can see my picture and the mike on the camera works on my machine but neither of us can see or hear each other.
    Text chat works fine.
We are both running wireless routers but our MAC are hard wired to the machines NIC so wireless is not a factor here. I am using a Linksys WRT54GS... I also have the firewall in OSX turned on. Are there ports I need to open to get this to work? If so how?
Also I bought the iSight camera and just assumed that Photobooth would come with it... It doesn't seem to have been included. My buddy sent me version 1 but I am not sure if it's compatible with the Intel MacPro... how do I get it?
    Any ideas?

    Hi
Goto the linksys setup page and then goto the Adminstration option you should find UPnP which you should turn on.
    Restart ichat.
You have a Macbook Pro which should have a built in iSight and photobooth should be in you application's folder.

  • Isight firewire cam not working in iChat on Leopard.

After installing Leopard on my Powerbook G4 867 dvi, my Isight Firewire Cam is not working anymore
    in Ichat on Leopard.
Any solutions, it worked fine under Tiger.
Isight firewire cam works fine wirh Skype, Amsn , Photobooth and Quicktime.

Alright. I've done quite a bit of testing now.
My system is (as stated below,) a 12" PowerBook G4, 867 MHz, 640 MB RAM, 40 GB hard drive, Combo drive, AirPort Extreme. It was purchased in Summer 2003, and while the OS has been reloaded, it hasn't been for a long time, and at present, the OS was an install of Jaguar that was upgraded to Panther to Tigard, finally to Leopard.
I was experiencing the issue mentioned. In my case, I use a FireWire miniDV camcorder for video in iChat. It has worked fine in the iChat AV beta in Jaguar, and iChat AV in Panther and Tiger.
Upon upgrading to Leopard, I get the "Slow Network" explanation for why I cannot use video (or hosting multiperson audio, or screen sharing.)
    My research shows the following:
This occurs both on the upgraded install, and a fresh install. (To an external hard drive.)
Using Ecamm's PowerBoost allows me to use every option that isn't barred outright by lack of hardware (video effects.) This includes both "Slow Network" issues and "Insufficient CPU" issues (essentially just multiperson video.)
So my guess is that the "Slow Network" is indeed a "bug", and will be fixed by an update from Apple.

  • Dual 30" ACDs not working correctly in mirror mode

My Apple Care guy is telling me that the problem I have is known and there is nothing they can do for me. I find this hard to believe, especially since it seems like I'm the only one complaining about this, so, before throwing in the towel and accepting defeat I ask, "Does anyone else have two 30 inch ACDs that do not work correctly while in mirror mode?". I have a Mac Pro4,1 eight core Intel Xeon with the ATI HD 4870. The details of my problem are in another post here (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2659330&tstart=0).
