Bulleted List Question

I'm applying a new style for my company's technical data sheets. The designer created a new bullet using a Wingdings 3 symbol. I incorporated that symbol, a lower case u that displays as a triangle rotated 90 degrees to stand on one tip. I copied that symbol from my computer's character map and followed the user guide instructions to create the special bullet symbol and that works fine. Where I'm having trouble is that the text following this new style bullet is in Frutiger roman font. When I type text following the bullet, I get wingdings 3 symbols. When I highlight those characters and assign Frutiger roman font, the bullet reverts to a lower case u.
Can FM 7.0 use a wingdings character to start a bulleted list and use other font for text following the bullet? Thanks.

The problem you're running into is likely because of a "quirk" in the way FM handles font changes within paragraphs.
To start with, are you creating a bulleted paragraph style, or are you just putting the bullet symbol in front of the text in the paragraph?
If you're just inserting the bullet after copying from the Character map, the better approach is to
1. create a new character style, e.g. "Wing3", that is set to be the Wingdings3 symbols.
2. create a new paragraph style, e.g. "NewBullet" with the Frutiger font for the paragraph, and in the autonumber properties of this paragraph tag specify the special character and that it should use Wing3 as the character format.
This is where it gets a bit tricky, though, because it may be difficult to find the correct character to put into the Autonumber Format dialog box, because FM sometimes "rearranges" the character mapping for some fonts. So, if you have a problem getting the correct character to be displayed for the bullet, don't give up -- post back here and let us know.

  • Copying sub-bulleted list _and_ keeping the master format

    Super basic question: how to make sub-bulleted lists formatted nicely?
    It's a follow up of the above topic. When I copy paste a full slide, it loses the property that sub-lists (pressing tab) come with smaller bullets. I can of course re-apply master, but then all my changes to the text (e.g. colored or bolded text) goes back do the default font. This is really annoying, it means that I cannot copy-paste slides from one presentation to another

    I have no problem with drag and drop on any of our systems.

  • Bullet lists

    Hello,
    When I open a new document I only have these options available for bullet lists:
    None
    Bullet
    Harvard
    Legal
    Numbered List
    However, when I open a Word document in Pages, I have 10 more options. Among them the possibility to create indented lists with different symbols for each indention. (The same goes for the Styles list - it has increased when I open a Word doc in Pages.)
    My question is: If I can´t create such indented lists in a doc started in Pages, is there a way to save these extra options that appear when a Word doc is opened in Pages? So that they will appear in Pages in the future?
    Thanks for all your help.
    Brills.

    Hi, thanks for replying.
    I was referring to the options that come up when I open the Styles drawer and have the "List Styles" show up there. Or if I click on the List icon on the top bar (but perhaps I put that there myself, I don´t remember). Anyway, when I go List in Inspector, do I then always have to manually set the indent level and bullet look? What I was trying to say was that when I open a Word doc in Pages, I already have lots of indented lists ready to use, and they show up under List Styles as well. I just don´t get it, how this works
    Thanks.

  • Unable to create numerical or bulleted list

    Many thanks in advance for your attention.
    1. Unable to create a numerical or bulleted list in Apple Mail.
    (To send an email with numerical of bulleted lists)
    2. Followed steps I read and saw in an Apple.com tip:
    3. I opened Mail.
    4. Selected "New Message"
    5. Then On Menu Bar - Selected "Format" and then the submenu - "Lists"
    6. But both options (numerical and bulleted) are greyed out.
    Under Customize Mail Toolbar, there is no "Lists" option either.
    Using Mac OS 10.5.4 and Apple Mail 3.4

    Hey,
    For those interested, I believe I answered my own question myself.
    There is one step the apple.com tip and other discussions seem to skip over.
    1. Your cursor has to be in the Body of the "New Message" for you to select a numbered or bulleted list option under "Format." Or to move "Lists" under Customize Toolbar to your toolbar. If your cursor isn't in the Body of the email, nothing appears.
    2. When you first open up a "New Message" your cursor (by default) is in the "To" box. That is why nothing was showing up for me (or was greyed out).

  • Appearance of Bulleted Lists & Checkmark Webdings Character in IE vs. Firefox

    I am a RoboHelp X5 user and have noticed that bulleted lists and checkmarks (a webdings character) in published files are distorted when displayed in Firefox (version 3.0.15, the latest version 8, and perhaps other versions) and want to know if there is a way to resolve this.  When I use Internet Explorer (vresion 7.0.5730.11), the bulleted lists and checkmarks appear as they should.
    The bulleted lists show the line of text in the following paragraph beneath the bullet rather than adjacent to the bullet.
    The checkmarks  that show as checkmarks in IE 7.0.5730.11 show up as the character "a" in the aforementioned Firefox versions.
    A pdf is attached showing the differences in appearance of bulleted lists and the checkmark in both IE and Firefox. Any input welcomed.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi William,
    I'm not sure how to reply to you...  I went to the forum and couldn't figure it out.  This email is a direct response to the email sent to me from you through the forums page.  Please let me know if you do receive this.  In any case, thank you for your info.  Very helpful!
    Two Questions:
    1) If I insert the ✔ code into the html, will it be viewable as a checkmark in any version of any browser?
    2) Many of the bulleted paragraphs (but not all) that are having that unusual presentation problem were created under the Normal style, manually highlight, and made "bulleted" by clicking the bullet button.  For some of these, I've tried just creating a BULLETS paragraph style, and applying this style to the problematic text, and it seems to solve the problem.  Will this solve the problem when viewed through any version of any browser?
    Thank you so much!

  • Query to bulleted list

    I have a query that returns 31 results.  The db is set up with a file name, url, membership, submembership.  I want to create a bulleted list from the 31 records in the following manner
    1
    item1
    item2
    2
    item1
    item2
    3
    item1
    item2
    subitem1
    subitem2
    4
    item1
    item2
    The question is ... the best way to do this.  Is it easier to loop through the query and crete an array for each item?    Thanks.

    Just to clarify on something - using the group attribute will loop once for each unique value of that field (assuming your data is ordered by that field).  using a second <cfoutput> block INSIDE of the <cfoutput group=""> tags will cause CF to loop over each record inside of that subgroup:
    <cfoutput query="healthyliving" group="membership">
    #membership#
    <ul>
         <cfoutput>
              <li>#title#</li>
         </cfoutput>
    </ul>
    </cfoutput>
    Should get you where you need to go.  As Dan mentioned you can use nested groupings, but for your example the above syntax should be sufficient.
    Hope that helps,
    - Michael

  • Where is Bullet List button?

    I've searched everywhere for how to invoke my bullet list buttons but haven't found them. I am running the latest InDesign version from Creative Cloud. This is my control panel when I'm in paragraph mode:
    This seems like such a dumb-headed question, but I'm feeling rather dumb right now.

    Oh, nevermind. I found it. There is a toggle button on the control panel that controls whether the text controls are in Character or Paragraph mode. I believe the default is Character mode.
    Here is the first section of Character mode:

  • OA Region as Bullet list which show messages

    hi gurus,
    i have a requirement where i have to show OA Search Region as Bullet List(shows messages). the RN is based on a parameter(party name) i.e., showing the Bullet List Search RN based on each party name. here each message is a
    options we have to decide
    query based result
    Pl/sql procedure
    creating view
    in future if i want to again add the messages in Region .it should be easy to add .....
    my question is which approach to go in the above 3 options here i have to come up with the design
    requirement can be
    OA region where we can display information pulled from various tables. This region need to take customer as input parameter and gather information based on that customer and display it in the region. I will give more details on where exactly this information is available. But please think about the design and approach on how you would like to address this. This region will be added to create SR page and update SR page regions.
    1. Need ability to let agent know the call count(no of service requests) compared to the call pack max allowed(no of service tickets purchased).
    2. Display “calls expired” status ( used up all the calls purchased in call packs), and ISR count in Agent dashboard.
    3. Sample ISR messages could be ‘Contract Exceeded, no ISR used’ or ‘Contract Exceeded, ISR used on xyz date’
    4. Special instructions regarding the contract (whether to process regardless of whether the site exists, or always enter manually created sites as ISRs, etc.) will be captured for each contract. This will be displayed to the agent/engineer while entering SRs.

    Hi Naveen,
    Always VO should be the first choice. You can also use mix of these approaches also.
    First be clear about how in future further messages can be added, if it is clear we can decide the approach to be followed.

    Urgent help needed!
    Thanks
    Shaikh Sadaf

    Hi Shaikh,
    The issue is because the web browser's job is to compress multiple sequence space characters into one and therefore all of the leading spaces are removed.
    In HTML placeholder, it should be design.
    To workaround the issue, we can add one more character at the begin of the multiple sequence space. We can add one more calculated  field to do so:
        1. Double-click the dataset.
        2. Go to "Fields" page.
        3. Click "Add" >> "Calculated Field"
        4. Type a filed name, then in the "Field Source", type the following expression:
             =Replace(Fields!originalHTMlField.Value, ">&nbsp;", "><font color=""white"">.</font>")
             NOTE: This expression replaces each first space with a character ".", and set the color to be white(suppose the report's backgroup color is white too. Then, in the report, it seems there is nothing.)
        5. Now, use this new field in the report, and set its Markup type to be "HTML - Interpret HTML tags as styles".
    The multiple sequence space will be displayed as expected.
    Sure, this is just a workaroud. We can submit a feedback at
    http://connect.microsoft.com/sql. If this service requests frequently, the prodcut team may find a way to fix this issue.
    If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.

  • Slight misalignment in IE10 bullet list

    I have a bullet list, and I want the lines of text following each bullet to line up to the right of the bullet-- so I have an outdent:
    list-style-position: inside;
    list-style-type: disc;
    text-indent: -1em;
    This works great in Chrome and Firefox, but IE 10 wants to shift the second line after to the left a tad. I've tried using different units (px. pt)  but no dice. The list is within a <dd> tag, but I've also tried different combinations: <dd><ul><li>..., or just <dd><li>.., and also skip the <dd> altogether and just <ul> <li>... which raises a secondary question about what exactly is the proper syntax here... does <li> have to reside within a <ul>?  The bullet list is technically an item list within a description list.
    The discrepancy may just be limited to IE10, and I can live with it if I have to.
    Thanks

    Bullets are most often used in unordered lists.
    <ul>
    <li>List item</li>
    <li>List item</li>
    <li>List item</li>
    <li>List item</li>
    </ul>
    <style>
    ul li {
         list-style-type: disc;
         margin-left:0;
         padding-left:0;
    </style>

  • The bullet list, numbered list and the normal text is not converting when I am converting from RH 9 to MS Word 2010

    Hi all,
    Greetings for the day
    I am created a new CSS in Robohelp 9. I have also created a new template in Word 2010. The style sets for different information elements like (Heading, bullets, body text, ) are more or less same between the CSS and the new templates. I am also able to map the .css styles to Word template when I am converting from RH to Word as I am getting the necessary option in the drop-down list.
    However, when the output is generated, the bullet, the numbered list and the body text is not converting at all. The body text works sometimes. However, the numbered list and bullet list is coming out as images.
    If anybody knows the solution, I can share the .css and Word template.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,

  • Bullets & lists (Korean)

    When I try to add an additional item in Korean in the "Bullets & Lists", the bullet symbol disappears.
    Is there any possible solution for this problem?

    If you put the cursor in a text box, you have those options; they represent a kind of formatting that isn't available in a cell of a table.
    You can type a bullet into a cell manually, of course.

    Does anyone know how to enable Bullets & Lists in Numbers 3.1? When I go to the "Inspector", i.e., Format --> Text, all the control components within the Bullets and Lists section are disabled (i.e., grayed-out).  Does anyone know a way to enable them?

  • Creating Custom Bullets & Lists in Pages 5.0

    I cannot figure out how to create a custom numbered list in Pages 5.0. I had custom LISTS on my 4.3 Docs that did not migrate to 5.0. How do I create duplicate LIST STYLE in 5.0?
    Thank you for your help.

    On the format menu on the right side, there is the font section, alignment section, spacing section, and bullets & lists section. Next to the bullets & lists section is a drop-down menu of preset lists. At the top-right of this menu is a plus sign. Clicking on this will allow you to create a new list in that menu and title it. From there, you will have to manually create your custom list change the type of bullets (numbers, roman numerals, letters, etc.) -- you might need to click on the disclosure triangle to the left of the bullets & lists title to see this part. When you finish with your custom list, there will be an asterik next to the title of the list, and if you click on that title, the drop-down menu will open up again and you can hit "Update" next to your list name. This should save the style for that custom list. Here is the most important part: When you have finished making this list, make sure you save the document as a template and select that template if you ever want to use that list. I have found that a custom list in a document (saved or deleted) that is not made into a template does not carry over into other documents. Setting up this custom list may take a while, but hopefully it will work and make things easier. I hope this makes sense, and let me know if you cannot understand something. Hopefully this picture will help too.

  • Bulleted Lists in Text Boxes?

    Hi all,
    Apologies if this has been asked before - I've searched but to no avail.
    Can one, in a text document, have a bulleted list in a text box? I've tried, but when the text to be bulleted in the text box is selected, the toolbar and the 'Format' drop-down menu changes and the 'Bullets On/Off' button is not available.
    I've tried customising the toolbars (which I feel I shouldn't have to do anyway), but this doesn't work. I've tried to cut and paste in bulletted points from normal text (which I feel I shouldn't have to do either) but this doesn't work either.
    Any suggestions, or is this a bug/feature?
    With thanks,
    Sean.

    If you mean the text function in the drawing toolbar, it isn't possible.
    You should use frames.
