Business Event during R12 upgrade (11.5.10.2 - 12.1.3)

Best practices for R12 upgrade says to disable custom tiggers and business events.
Disabling custom Triggers is fine , understood it.
However the phrase "and business events." is a bit confusing for my customer.
Though IMO ,it means disabling custom business events and not all ,however he is keen to know whether this means
disabling standard business events as well.
Also since we are bringing down all the services including WF services ,how can Business events be processed ?
Moreover as far as I know ,enabling maintenance mode shuts down the Workflow Business Events System which means no business event will be processed.
Thus why it is written in most of the Best Practices documents to disable business events ?
thanks for your help.
-SK

I have never needed to disable business events in all the upgrades I did from 11.5.10.2 to 12.1.3 and I believe it is not mentioned in these docs (I understand it is mentioned in the best practices, but I believe it is not required).

    Hi Experts,
During R12.1.1 upgrade from 11.5.10.2 adworker for patch u6678700.drv fails for afopp002.sql
The exact error being faced is
    sqlplus -s APPS/***** @/u03/oracle/CRP1PROD/apps/apps_st/appl/fnd/12.0.0/patch/115/sql/afopp002.sql &un_fnd &pw_fnd
    Connected.

I even tried restarting the worker, bounced the database and even tried running u03/oracle/CRP1PROD/apps/apps_st/appl/fnd/12.0.0/patch/115/sql/afopp002.sql manually which hangs for indefinitely.
    Any suggestion.

    Hi Srini,
Let me walk you through briefly regarding the upgrade process:
Initially the existing instance was 11.5.10.2 with 9.2.0.6 database.Last year the database was upgraded to 11.2.0.1 and configured with 11.5.10.2
However the 11g database upgrade steps specifically for EBS 11i(interoperatibility notes for 11i with 11g database) was not followed properly.
And one of the major key issue identified was the 11g Example CD was not installed on top of 11g software during database upgrade.Which is the pre-req for 11g upgrade in EBS
And as per my experience it creates issues during R12 upgrade (patch u6678700) and giving errors pertaining to oracle text error.
SR was raised for the same and was suggested, since there is no other option kindly install the Oracle 11g software and on top of that 11g Example CD and map the 11g database and go ahead with the R12 upgrade.
Now coming back to the core issue being faced, Pre-req followed properly. No errors in alert logs.
Can missing the Example CD installtion be the issue?

    Hi Murali,
We have a 11.5.10.2 instance with 10.2.0.5 database and we are Planning to upgrade the database to 11.2.0.3 during our upgrade R12.1.1, as per the note 761570.1, we have the Patch C and Path D available to us. We have decided to use the path C i.e upgrade the database to 11.2.0.3 during the R12 upgrade itself and no two downtime windows. As per this note 761570.1, in path c If the database upgrade is part of the R12 upgrade, perform all the steps in the Interoperabity Notes except the following steps:
    Verify software versions
    Run adgrants.sql
    Implement and run Autoconfig
    Re-create grants and synonyms
    Restart Applications server processes
Apply Oracle Human Resources (HRMS) patch 7721754
so does that mean we don't have to apply any patches mentioned under Verify software versions like Interoperability patch , ATG Patch 7456837 etc.. on 11i ?
If you are planning to upgrade the database in the same downtime window of R12 upgrade, then you do not need to apply the patches under "verify software versions" section in the 11i doc. However, you need to consider applying the patches under the same section in (Interoperability Notes EBS R12 with Database 11gR2 [ID 1058763.1]). Those patches should be applied before you release the R12 instance to the users.
    Thanks,

  • Can I retain my concurrent program schedule During R12 Upgrade ?

    Hi,
We are approaching Oracle R12 Upgrade go live. We have large number of concurrent programs scheduled by various users. We are planning to put these programs on hold before upgrade. When we upgrade, do upgrade driver removes all schedules from concurrent program schedules? Is it wise to cancel all scheduled programs and reschedule them after upgrade?
    Please help!
    Best Regards,
    Dhaval Khamar

When we upgrade, do upgrade driver removes all schedules from concurrent program schedules? No.
Is it wise to cancel all scheduled programs and reschedule them after upgrade? No, just put them on hold before the upgrade then resume those jobs after the upgrade.

  • Facing issues with R12 and SOA 11g integration using Business events

    Hi,
I am trying to integrate R12 application with Fusion using 11g SOA suite. I configured BES in R12 application and I am able to raise a business event and query it from WF_BPEL_Qtab. I have an Oracle applications adapter listening for the same event in SOA composite deployed over a server. I have verified the DB connection and schema for R12 application in 11g SOA server. However, no SOA instance is being generated. No server log as well.
I understand that 11g SOA uses EDN (using fusion_edn schema) for business events. Are there any changes expected to be done to Oracle Apps adapter to ensure the event is received.
P.S. Oracle apps adapter configuration is probably correct as the out bound calls are taking place correctly.
    Thanks,

In Workflow 2.6.2, you can load BES seed data using the wfxload command line utility. It is documented in the Workflow Guide.

  • Business Events

    Hi,
In R12, I could fine some seeded shipping related business events like 'oracle.apps.wsh.delivery.gen.shipconfirmed', 'oracle.apps.wsh.stop.gen.closed'. For testing purpose I am raising this event manually using 'Tesing Business Event'. It is showing that the event has been raised. But I like to know what action it has performed (like in which AQ, it has enqueued the data). I have checked in WF_DEFERRED, other AQ tables, but none of it is getting enqueued.
Please let mw know where to sse the data.
    Primary requirement:
According to the documentation, the above 2 events will get fired during the Shipconfirm process. So we have to identify what this event is doing. I believe somewhere Delivery ID is getting stored by this event. We need this information, as we have to build a outbound ship confirm interface on this.
    Thanks,
    Gowri.

Additionally, take a look at the event subscriptions for the given event names. Are there any? if so what do they do?
posting the question in WSH forum might also help.

  • Notification Business Events

    Hi,
I remember reading in the documentation that the Business Event System has a set of pre-defined events that correspond to Notification events like send, respond, cancel etc.
(Unfortunately I am not able to locate the exact document in which I had seen this listing).
The problem is that I am not able to find any notification related events in the business event list of my workflow installation.
    I have installed WF 2.6.2 from ias902int(egration)cd into a 9.0.1.3.0 infrastructure db.
Notification Business Events would have been an extremely useful feature to have...Could anyone please tell me why I am not able to find these events? Am I doing something wrong or do they not exist in this version?
    TIA,
    regards,
    Libin

    Hi Raja,
Thank you for your response. I was able to find the listing in the workflow guide.
But I am not able to find these events in my installation.
I have used wfver.sql to double check that the version is indeed 2.6.2. There were no errors raised during installation and so far the schema appears to be fully functional. It is just that these particular events are missing.
Would you know how I could get these events inside the installation(any patch/upgrade etc)?
    thanks and regards,

  • Oracle R12 Upgrade - Estimated Downtime

We are midsize company upgrading from Oracle Financials R11i (11.5.9) to R12. Our consulting vendor performing the upgrade has estimated 8 days to complete the upgrade. Our DB size is less than 150gb and we have a very vanilla environment (only 14 CEMLI's).
Having managed extremely complex SAP upgrades in the past, cutting over during long weekends and thus maximum downtimes of 72hrs I am blown away by an estimated 8 days of downtime in this case.
Does anyone have any experience with this type of upgrade and the expected downtime windows to be incurred by the business?

    Hi,
8 calendar days of downtime seems an excessive estimate for the what you've described, though of course there are a lot of factors that influence this. You'll have a much better idea of what to expect once you've performed a dry run (or five :-) ) on a test system. Has the consulting vendor offered any sort of justification for the estimate? That is, are they pointing to anything in your environment that makes this upgrade particularly long? What sort of hardware are you using? Are you migrating to a new platform during this upgrade? Does all of the work they're estimating for truly need to be done during the outage window, or is there some that can be done before or after? What does their estimate look like if you only convert some Financials data during the upgrade, and do the rest post-upgrade?
I can only offer the following data point, though I suspect that there are others on this forum with more varied R12 upgrade experience:
Our upgrade (11.5.10.2->12.0.3) was for a system with a similar data footprint (slightly smaller, in fact), and similarly vanilla environment (customizations limited to reports). We were running on mid-range hardware (two-node system, 2-CPU db server, single-CPU app server). We started our upgrade on a Friday at 6 PM, and finished sometime late the following Sunday evening...less than 72 hours. Granted, this is not an apples-to-apples comparison: you're starting at 11.5.9, not 11.5.10.2. Then again, I assume you'll also be going directly to 12.0.4. We had to add time to our upgrade to apply the 12.0->12.0.3 upgrade driver.
If we were discussing this over a beer, I'd be tempted to claim there's some [Scotty Factor|http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?ScottyFactor|Beam me up!] going on here. Since this is a public forum, however, I would never be so woefully unprofessional, and merely suggest that you request clarification from your vendor on the justification for their estimate. :-)
    Regards,
    John P.
