Buttons in an overlay

Hi all
Recently I created a simple flash text card animation with arrows allowing the user to scoll through the different cards. I wanted to go a step further and make an overlay so when the user rolls over it, it would expand showing a variety of buttons for them to click and link off to in different places
this is where my problem began. I created to overlay as a movie clip and when a small arrow is rolled over the movie clip overlay_mc plays and expands to reveal the buttons and the rollout function causes it to contract. The buttons however are un-clickable and after some research i discovered this is because the overlay_mc clip acts as a layer over the buttons.
Is there anyway I can create an overlay with the buttons remaining active? Help greatly appreciated

If you make the background of your movieclip the object with the rollover/rollout code, then you can have your buttons sitting a layer above it where they will be fully accessible. You will have to add the rollover/rollout code to the buttons as well because when you rollover them you rollout of the background.
Another way to do this would be to use AS3 where you can do all of your interactive code outside of the movieclip.

Can't add a toolbar button in a overlay extension

Hello, I'm having trouble adding a button to the main toolbar.
I'm creating a xul overlay extension but for some reason I can't seem to add the button to the toolbar. I'm able to install it, but not make the button appear.
What I'm trying to do is create a toolbar button, that opens a popup containing an iframe. I need exactly what the user Felipe Silva show in this example:

The only difference is that the iframe needs to load an html file packaged with the extension and not some external source.
I'd also like to add the button by default to the toolbar but I need to get the button working first.

I know this would be easier if I was using the SDK but the toolbar button module requires Firefox 29 which is not stable yet so I prefer doing this way.

Buttons in Interactive Overlays

If I create a button in an interactive overlay, will the link be disrupted by interactive features in the layer below?

NEED HELP Highlighting Buttons (using an overlay)

I am using DVD Studio version 4.0.2. I'm working on a menu and I have 2 buttons I need. A play movie and chapters button. How do you make these buttons highlighted when you simulate the menu? I know the tutorial tells you to import the "pre-made" overlay....but how do you make that overlay? Please help. Thank you very much

Welcome to forum.
You can make the overlay in Photoshop. Make whatever you want your overlay to be- lets say a box around your text- as a black shape on a white bg. Flatten your image, save it, then import into DVDSP. Drag it onto your menu but don't release the mouse until the drop down menu appears - drop it over 'choose overlay'. You wont see anything yet, don't worry - you need to draw in a button onto the menu that completely surrounds your overlay shape. Now the overlay shape can be highlighted and activated - the manual covers this in much more detail and is pretty straight forward.

Selected/activated button overlay in Buttons over Video

I have six different buttons over video, with one overlay.
The buttons are assigned to each of six audio tracks.
When I select and activate a button the overlay goes from white to red, and the audio changes to the specified audio track. So far, so good. But, when I want to select another button, the red overlay disappears, and I see the selected buttons white overlay. This is of course "default", but I'd like the red overlay to stay, indicating that I'm still listening to that audio track, even if I'm choosing between another button.
Can this be done somehow? I'm thinking that perhaps I can add a subtitle that tells me what Track I have selected, but the overlay is already a subtitle...
Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

Only one button can be "selected" at a time, meaning when people scroll through the selections on the menu there is an indication of where they are/what they are about to press when they hit enter.

Same general concept applies to buttons over video. Only one state active at a time, and subtitles will not work since the buttons are a subtitle stream (of course you can use add text in the overlay for the buttons) Page 460 of the PDF

DVD menu, overlay question

Hello fellow DVD menu builders, I need your help. I created a menu in Photo with different layers, I flattened the image to .pct: one is the background, the other is the overlay where the word itself should turn a white color when it is activated. It's not working. Here's what I did, I dragged the background .pct onto the blank menu in DVDSP, I set the dropbox as to Background, I dragged my overlay onto the DVDSP, using Overlay for a setting. Then I created a button where I want viewers to activate the button, but my overlay does not show up therefore viewers will not know when it is activated. So when I simulated the menu, the button never changed color, it goes immediately to the movie.
More info: the Start button is in light blue, the activated overlay is in white.

To clarify, your overlay generally needs to be black graphics on a white background.

Hi pankaj,
The Table Columns are generated dynamically by node attributes assigned to it.
So i tried to add an attribute to the node but it din't reflected in the table column. i could see the Node structure in the debugging
mode with the added attributes but in the table layout the column(attribute) is not added(seen).........
So do i need to change any of the table attribute which is restricting dynamically to specfic columns only.....!!!

Blend Overlay is not working in Safari over site's background image

My message is concerning the website (below) called
suspendedinsound.com.
The blend mode, Overlay, is not working on several of my
movie clips in the Safari browser.
The Flash swf and html is published with a transparent
background. I put a bg image (via CSS) in the html code. The
objects with overlay (the large animating gold rings and
play/stop/mute buttons), are not "overlaying" over the html's
background image. They look yellow or cream instead of being very
subtle (dark reddish brown). This is only a problem in the Safari
browser. Looks great in Firefox and IE.
Anybody have a solution?

Transparent background is a less than robust publishing
option for Flash. As you've seen, it can produce some unreliable
results.

Menu Fade in Buttons

I need to have the buttons (created in DVDSP4) to fade in 4 seconds after the animated menu plays in (fades in from black, and I don't want to see the buttons before the animation is fully in). I realize there are ways to do this in Motion, but my computer will not open the program for some reason...
I'll tackle that problem later. So what I have are FCP movie files that I am importing and using as animated menus, then creating buttons using the ones provided in Studio Pro.
I am at my wits end trying to figure this one out. If there is no way to do this within Studio Pro without Using Motion for creating buttons let me know so I can move on before I go crazy.
Much appreciated.
P.S. I've done a lot of reading on the Forum about this and haven't found a solution yet, this is my last resort.

Buttons will not be active until the loop point and overlays will not be seen
until then. (You cannot control the buttons you drag from the templates otherwise.)

Don't display Overlay Creator Panel

After the installation of the Folio Producer Tools i can't display the Overlay Creator Panel on my InDesign

I've installed the Folio Producer Tools and the Folio Panel, after the log in in Folio Buider i can't display the new features buttons, like the Overlay Creator panel.
I've tried uninstall/re-install but nothing new happens
What can i do?

Problem with Overlays

I have been using DVD Studio Pro for awhile and all of a sudden my overlays are not working. I create my DVD menu in Photoshop and create a separate file for my overlay. I have used overlay files as both .jpg and .png. When I simulate the disk, all of the buttons and the overlays work fine. When the DVD is done burning and I go to play the DVD, the button overlays are no longer there. So it looks like the other buttons don't exist. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Hi, I'm having the same problem. I'm teaching this at University, but it was during a class where this happened. I hope it's not something incredibly simple - that would be embarrassing.
Even last night it worked fine for me, bringing an overlay file, even using a layer from the .psd file as the overlay on the menu. But all of a sudden it didn't work when I did the same thing today. I'm teaching in a room with 22 Macs, (Imac duals 3.0ghz and dual xeon mac pros) and it worked on some but not others. The issue is when you load an overlay file over a menu background, then draw a button around the overlay area the overlay doesn't show up. You can play with colours, play with states, everything that should work doesn't, until you simulate. Then it works fine (an overlay you created blind). What makes me think it;s a bug was that I logged out of finder, then logged back in, did the same thing but it worked. Then stopped working. Sometimes when clicking on it, the overlay would work briefly, a split second but then never come back.
The machine I'm on is mac Pro, dual core 2.66ghz, 8g Ram, OSx v10.5.6
Photoshop is CS4 v11.0, and DVD Studio Pro is v4.2.1
Any ideas here would be great! I have two more classes to deliver tomorrow...

Can someone describe the process of button creation for DVDSP in Photoshop? Mine keep coming out gray.

Applies a bit, I assume you mean it looks gray when simulating? The above deals with the concept, in the inspector you need to set the colors for the buttons -- look for Overlay Color Mapping in PDF, (PG 217 for DVD SP 3)

HTML overlay on top of Flash

I see that using a javascript library like JQuery, I can
create overlays from one HTML page to another (code below). Our
Flash designer is suggesting that perhaps the JQuery function could
be modified to include the names of the external HTML pages so that
he could just reference this function to call up the overlays. Is
something like this possible? If not, is there an established way
of calling HTML overlays from a Flash .swf perhaps using

Limitations in the Android 2.x rendering model require Flash content to always be rendered as the topmost object.
It gets better in Android 3.x, but I'd highly recommend staying away from pop-ups and overlapping interactive elements where possible. It doesn't mesh well with the browsing experience in the context of small screens and touch input (you're always going to have wasted real-estate with a pop-up), and you'll avoid a lot of frustration.

Buttons don't show up in a DVD player...

I have a strange problem,
I made a menu with 3 buttons and an overlay, everything works well when I simulate the menu, the highlights shows up but then, when i built the disc, the buttons highlights won't appear. I can't even use the remote of a DVD player to navigate because no highlights are here !!!!
on the other menus I have no problems, the problematic menu is the first one and it comes after an intro track. I also add a music track to it.
What's happening with the highlights ???

actually i'm working on a ntsc project,
the files are all .m2v
the project start with a simple menu (photoshop file with background image and highlights). I really feel like there is a bug on this one because only the first menu has the problem : the highlight doesn't show up except when I select the button, then I have the selected color which appear for a second.
It could be enough if this dvd had to be read on a computer but it's a real problem when you need to play it on a dvd player.
I used PS CS2 to make the menu
my highlights are 3 crowns draw with red and blue, I used the advanced color mode in DVD SP, the buttons appear in DVD SP as white when selected and yellow when activated...it works fine in the simulation and then no white selected state works on the built DVD...
I thought that i messed up with the loop point so i checked and it should really work.
to answer your question, i can activate the buttons but i don't see which one i activate as the highlights doesn't show up.
I need to deliver asap and i'm in big trouble.
