Bytes won't add at all?!

Question

When I run my code in debug and break at the line 239, the expression
(byte)(max - min + 1) seems to return zero when (byte max = 255) and (byte min = 0), according to the debug. Can someone explain this?
235 // Prepare new histogram
236 binNumber = binNum;
237 histogramMin = min;
238 histogramMax = max;
239 histogramRange = (byte)(max - min + 1);
240 histogram = new int[binNumber];

Once again, I solved my own problem after five minutes of submitting this desperate, hopeless problem.
After playing with the console application, I discovered something interesting. If you add "1" to byte 255, since 255 is the max value of a byte type, adding one simply reverts it back to zero and cycles back through.
byte 254 + byte 1 = byte 255
byte 254 + byte 2 = byte 0
byte 254 + byte 3 = byte 1
And now I have the exact same problem for a different reason.
int shadeInitial, shadeFinal;
for (int i = 0; i < histogram.Length; i++)
shadeInitial = (int)(histogram.Length / 255d * i);
shadeFinal = (int)(histogram.Length / 255d * (i + 1));
chart.Series[series].Points.AddXY(shadeInitial.ToString() +
" - " + shadeFinal.ToString(), histogram[i]);
shadeInitial and shadeFinal are set to "0" even though the histogram array is set and defined as having 16 integer elements. It didn't matter how much type casting I did, I couldn't get this code to work the way it's supposed to work.
...And now I realize it's because 1/255 is equal to 0.003921... which rounds down to "0". I should have entered the expression "(int)(255d / histogram.Length * i)" and  "(int)(255d / histogram.Length * (i + 1))"
