C# steps insertion in Teststand

Dear all.
I have some codes which are developed in C# but I would like to insert those C# codes onto Teststand sequencer as the steps in the sequence.
And then run the test sequence.
Kindly need experts to advise whether this can be done in this manner.
Thanks.

uoi,
As Julien mentioned, you'll need to create a .NET assembly of your C# code, which you can then call from TestStand with the .NET Adapter. To see what this looks like, you could take a look at the .NET version of our Computer Motherboard Test example. It's located at <TestStand Public>\Examples\Demo\DotNet\computer.seq.
Let us know if we can do anything else to help out!

  • Insert a specified built-in or custom step type in Teststand using CVI

      I try to build a step type . this step type specifies an adapter of DLL, which is developed under CVI. I want to use Teststand API functions in CVI to fulfill the following functions.
      1, insert a specified built-in or custom step type into current sequence;
      2, insert a specified built-in or custom step type into another sequence.
    Thanks!

    Hi Jacky,
    There is an example program called Programmatically Inserting a Step into a TestStand Sequence Using LabWindows/CVI and a KnowledgeBase called Programmatically Inserting a New Step in the Currently Executing Sequence that should answer your question.
    Hope this helps!

  • Workflow Step : Insert Outbox

    Hi,
    I want to know how we can make use of the Workflow Step : Insert Outbox.
    Would be nice if i can get some example for the same. Thanks.

    Hi,
    I think this step can't be used. If you try to use it you will get the below error message from the system.
    No maintenance interface exists for your chosen step type. This means that not all step types can be configured in the workflow configuration for example.

    This is confirmed by the system with this message.

  • Know steps names of called sequence file using sequence call step type in TestStand

    Hi,
        I have a problem in accessing step names in called sequence file using "Sequence call"step type in TestStand 4.0.
    I would list out all step names of called sequence file. Is it possible to do through C#.NET? If, yes, Please explain to me in detail with possible example.
    Thank you,
    regards
    RKK

    Hey RKK,
    I want to first set your expectations for the forums.  This is not a place for people to review and rewrite your code for you; this is a place for specific and general questions.  I am not saying your question in this thread is inappropriate, because it is a good questions.  We should just not post code and ask others to fix it here.  If you are looking for this type of service we have alliance members that can help you write your TestStand Operator Interface (www.ni.com/alliance).
    As for you question about getting the sequence names for a sequence file that is not the currently running sequence file, you will need to open a reference to that sequence files and then use the API calls that I mentioned in my previous posts.  You can use the Enigine.GetSequenceFileEx function to open a reference to sequence file, and you will need to close the reference with the Engine.ReleaseSequenceFile function when you are done using it.  After you have a reference to this external Sequence File, you can use the example dll and sequence I previously sent you.  I also attach a new sequence file (SeqFile2.seq) plus an updated GetNames.seq to illustrate how to use the above mentioned functions.  I hope this helps.  Have a great day!

  • How to change the step background in Teststand?

      I have a requirement for Teststand. I can not find a function to set the background color of steps/sequences in Teststand sequence editor.However, sometimes, it becomes so important that I prefer to have this function since sometimes we want to highlight some steps, See attached file. Is there any method/recommendations to do this for current teststand3.1?
    Thanks!

    You right click on the execution window while you are editing the top level OI. Select SequenceView Properties.
    Click on the 'columns' tab.
    Take the example from  Background Color Expression for 'Status' and copy it to the other columns (name and description)
    This should give you a place to a place to start.

  • ODI11g Integration Step:  Insert flow into I$ Table failure: TNS: error

    The project/interfaces have been working successfully for quite sometime. After a server reboot, they are all failing on the Integration step
    Insert flow into I$ Table failure with:
    ODI-1228: Task xxxxx(Integration) fails on the target ORACLE connection xxxxxx.
    Caused By: java.sql.SQLException: ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
    I have verified the topology and the dblink/Data Server is what resides in the tnsnames.ora file (which also has not changed).
    Any ideas what else to look at, all topology connection tests are successful.
    Thank you.

    All connections were testing successfull. The problem ended up being with one of the database links, after the server reboot there were multiple tnsnames and the environment was not pointing to the correct one. After removing all tnsnames except for the correct, the problem was fixed.
    Thank you for your response.

    Purpose :
    Inserting "None Adapter" step into sequence DURING execution using TS_API and DLL_Adapter.
    Status :
    Thanks to the example "inserting a step using labwindows", I successfully inserted the step into the cleanup sequence from withing my DLL. And I can find the result in report
    Trouble :
    If I put my call in the Setup and try to insert my step

    "UUT Result: Error, Invalid step index '1' for 'Main' phase in sequence 'MaSeq'. [Error Code: -17301, Index out of range.]
    Please Help !!

    To TS_diver -
    I am not sure which example you are referencing, but inserting a step into a run-time copy of a sequence that is running cannot be supported by TestStand. It may work in certain circumstances, but the key issue of non-support by TestStand is that for each step in the run-time copy of a sequence TestStand expects a corresponding step to exist in the edit-time copy of the sequence. Some of these references are by pointer and some are by index. TestStand uses the edit time copy of the sequence for various information. We do this for performance reasons and it also saves memory.
    The only thing that I can recommend is to create a placeholder step that you call conditionally run using preconditions. If you need to configure the step, you
    can use the API to update the properties of the step prior to running the step.

  • Is there a way to use the find/replace tool to select the actual step in the TestStand sequence instead of just listing matching values in the find window?

    The purpose of this is to be able to select many steps that are scattered throughout a sequence so I can change the step type one time.  I could do this now, but it would take me 30 minutes to click through the sequence and select all of the steps before I'd even change the step type because there are different steps inbetween the ones I want to select.  I wouldn't be able to just use the shift key to select multiple steps because of that.  I have about 500 steps I need to select, so it would be worth it to find an automated way to do that.
    Unless there's a way to change a step type from a numericlimittest to an action step type from the find/replace window???

    I ended up using ActiveX calls in TestStand to find the steps I wanted and change the step type to Action.  See attached example sequence.

  • Add-on step types for TestStand?

    I am almost certainly reinventing some wheels with Teststand by creating some basic test types.
    For example, I just wrote a custom step type for taking an analog measurement from a DAQmx instrument. Surely someone has done this before, and surely someone will want to do it again. There's nothing proprietary about code that simple, and I'd be happy to give it away if there was a place to post it.
    Two questions:
    1. Is there an open-source repository for sharing custom step types?
    2. Are there add-ons for purchase with canned step types beyond those which come with TestStand?
    -Arthur

    Hi Jigg,
    I looked at Averna.com, and I don't see any add-ins available on their website. It looks like they offer services mostly.
    It's a good point about TS projects being so varied and customized. However, if custom step types are well architected, as the built-in step types are, then they ought to be reusable by others.
    You're right also that I can accomplish my DAQmx steps easily using an Action step with the LV adapter. My motivation for the custom step is to improve the interface for setting up such an action. In particular, when using an IO channel in TS, I have to manually type in a text string for the DeviceName value, whereas I'd like to choose from a list of global names (e.g. with the global channel list control in LV). I can get this affect by using an Enum in a wrapper VI, which maps to an array of channel constants; but this is fragile if the available channels are changed (e.g. added, removed or renamed in MAX).
    Additionally, a custom step type is better than a step template for my purposes, because I can propagate changes in the step type to instances of steps throughout the test. This is incredibly valuable to me during development and debugging. It saves me time when I want to update a step that I've used many times throughout a test sequence. Although TS isn't itself a programming language, I find that I expect it to share certain traits with programming languages to facilitate development, such as type abstractions and a strict enforcement of congruency between types and instances. But I digress....
    Thanks for your suggestions.

  • Change step parameters in teststand edit mode

    Hello,
    I would like to know if it's possible to change the parameters in a step in edit mode of teststand.
    I have attached a sequence with one step, in this step I want to select DMMx.
    After the selection I want to teststand to fill in the parameters in the step so I can the choose which type of measurement and such.
    If this is not possible how could I make something like this possible.
    As you may see this will be a HAL, and the only option I can see which would do this is bij a string array but I don't want to type in the commands in string.

    Hi Darkxceed
    My recommendation for doing a HAL i TestStand would be to use an object oriented approach.
    Create a class hirachy of your instruments like the following inside of LabVIEW:
    Then use Dynamic Dispatch to make TestStand choose the instrument of interest. There is an example of using Dynamic Dispatching in TestStand here:
    TestStand Using LabVIEW OOP Truck Example
    https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-24098
    This solution will offcourse require you to read up on creating applications using object oriented programming in LabVIEW. We at NI have a course that walks you through both the theory and practical implementation. It is called Object Oriented Programming in LabVIEW. If you have a SSP agreement, you should be able to find it as Self Paced Online Training as a part of your contract.
    There is also a good introduction to OOP in LabVIEW and HAL here:

  • Automatically Installing Custom Step Types in TestStand 4.2

    We have developed Custom Step types that needs to be integrated in a deployed TestStand System (customized UI with TestStand RunTime Engine) . We can customize the palette manually and add the related INI file. We also understand that the information gets saved in Testexec.ini in Cfg folder @ C:\ProgramData\National Instruments\TestStand 4.2\Cfg. What I am curious is how this process can be automated.
    Thanks

    I just want to add to the above that there are very good reasons to use type palettes even in a deployment. Using a type palette in a deployment ensures that all of the sequences on the deployed machine will use the version of the type in the type palette file... Using type palettes is recommended as a way to control which type versions are being used and to keep types more organized and centralized.
    Absolutely - that's exactly why we're doing it this way.  Our customer is in a regulated industry, and we need to control their development environment configuration very tightly.  Speaking of which, so when will there be VIPM (TestStand Edition)?

  • Visa resource control loses value set during config and saved to step properties in TestStand

    I'm using a Visa resource control to set the instrument handle in my VI (edit sub-step) and it gets saved into a step property of a custom step I've built at edit time. At run time the control value is intermittantly changed to "temp 0" value and I don't understand why. I have LabVIEW 7.1, TestStand 3.0

    Hi kphite,
    Are you using the Refnum to Session.vi and Session to Refnum.vi?
    You would use the Refnum to Session.vi to convert your Visa session value to a U32. Then you can pass this back to TestStand.
    Going back to LabView you use the Session to Refnum.vi to convert a U32 back to the Visa session.

  • How to create programmatically a new step type in TestStand (to myTypes.ini)

    I need to create a new step type to myTypes.ini file programmatically. I have tried to do it with following steps:
    - Get reference to engine
    - Load type palette files
    - creating new step type (engine.NewSteptype() )
    - Inserting new type using TypeUsageList.InsertType method. Problem with this is the first parameter. It excpects it to be in a form of PropertyObject, but engine.NewStepType returns it as a StepType object. If I try to use StepType.AsPropertyObject it returns an error.
    How to convert StepType object to a PropertyObject?

    And here it is in C++:
    TS::IEnginePtr mEngine;
    SAFEARRAY * typeList;
    TS::TypeUsageListPtr typeUseage;
    TS:tepTypePtr stepObj;
    mEngine = engine;
    mEngine->LoadTypePaletteFiles();
    typeList=mEngine->GetTypePaletteFileList();
    TS:ropertyObjectFilePtr *rgelems;
    SafeArrayAccessData(typeList,(void**)&rgelems);
    typeUseage = rgelems[0]->TypeUsageList;
    stepObj=mEngine->NewStepType();
    TS:ropertyObject *property = stepObj->AsPropertyObject();
    property->PutName("TestMe");
    typeUseage->InsertType(property, 0, TS::TypeCategory_StepTypes);
    rgelems[0]->IncChangeCount();
    rgelems[0]->SaveFileIfModified(true);
