C7280 - black ink streaking issue

Setup - wireless C7280 through Linksys N router - 3 computers with drivers and HP software loaded, an XP, A Vista, and Windows 7
Problem happens when initiating print job from any of the computers -- pinting black and white text - it streaks --
Have done successful alignment,
Have done sucessful diagnostic and all shows well.
Have cleaned print heads - when first cleaning done, the window says a page is to print - NO PAGE printed.  Option to click on done or Intermediate clean --- Chose the intermediate clean - says page is printing - again NO PAGE - choice of clean again or done - chose clean again - process repeated - same results.
Have also replaced the ink cartridge.  No success there either.
Unless anyone can suggest otherwise, I am down to the print heads or throw out the printer -
Any sugguestions appreciated.

I have read all 22 pages of comments and I am having the same issue of my printer not printing black print.  It prints grey.  I have tried reset, cleaning heads, replacing ink.  I have opened two new black ink packages and nothing is working. Please advise.

  • Canon Pixma MX922 black ink prints with streaks

My new MX922 is now printing with streaks.  Just the black ink.  The ink cartridge was replaced to be sure there was plenty of ink, but before it was even replaced the print came out streaked.  In other words, parts of letters print and other parts do  not; parts of sentences print and other parts do not.  What do I need to do?

    Hello kategreat.
Please check to make sure that the bright orange tape was removed from the top of each tank.  If the tape is left on the tanks, ink may not flow properly.
If the issue persists, we would have to advise that you contact our technical support group.  Please visit the following link below to contact our support group for additional assistance.

  • HP Officejet 7680 print issue alignment/ black ink problem

My printer is playing up again - this time it keeps trying to align, and fails (according to the readout on the screen) .
The black ink is also not working at all (trying new cartridge).  I suspect the two issues are connected? When I tried to print the Print Quality test page (as described here: Troubleshooting Print Quality Issues ) nothing involving the blank ink is printed at all, though the colours are all fine.)
Is it time for a new print head? Or what? I have tried my reset tricks described here on the forums from before  as well as the hard resets of #6 and #9 that I found on the forums elsewhere, to no avail this time. I am just leery of spending all that money which would need to be borrowed, if its not likely to be a dying print head..

  • HP 5550 Excess Black Ink Issue

    Hi,
I have an imac G5 running OSX 10.4 and an HP deskjet 5550 printer connected via USB that has started to basically put too much black ink on the page after changing cartridges so prints now smudge really badly. I thought the new cartridge was faulty so I changed it for another one but the same thing still happens. I think it might be a printer set up or driver issue as I have played with all the settings and it just about works if I choose draft print quality. The colours print fine as does printing when using a photo colour cartridge in place of the black ink one. I did a print recently on best quality so I was wondering if it was related to that? Also what driver or settings should I be using? Thanks for any ideas or advice as I'm fairly new to macs.

The brackets on the ink levels page are actually printed with a combination of color inks, they will print in what looks black even if black is not working.  I would suggest the troubleshooting steps in this document.  Be sure to check the vents.  If this does not resolve the issue the post here may help.

  • Photosmart 7520 options issue: How to print black ink, on both sides, with borderless.

I am checking to see if anyone has ever found a solution to the issue involved with borderless printing when the options "print on both sides" and "black ink only" are chosen.
I used to be able to print on both sides, flip on long edge, and choose black ink only, and I was able to print borderless.  There was never an issue until last year, when out of the blue a yellow warning triangle appeared next to borderless printing.   I do not know why this happened, and I was never able to solve the issue, even with two hour-long conversations with polite and tireless HP phone reps.  One HP rep even helped me download a driver for a newer printer to see if that helped, and it did not.
Now in order to print without the extra border, I have to do the following in order to receive the regular output:
    1.  After saving, I make a custom border that is .75 inches all the way around instead of one inch.
    2.  I increase the font size of every block of print by .5 in size.
    3.  Then I print, but I do not save;  when I close, it saves as it was before the changes I made to ameliorate the HP options mishap.
If any HP technician our here can tell me when this issue will be addressed and solved, I would appreciate it.
Oh, I run an Acer laptop with Windows 7, the 64-bit version.  I use the wireless printing option.  This issue occurs with my Word Program (2013), and my up-to-date Adobe .pdf files.
    Thank you very much.

    Hey there PrincessCupcake!
Thanks for the detailed post back to me.
If this was at one time an option for you and now is not, it would make sense to me that an update of some sort had made the option null and void for you, especially if you have completely uninstalled the printer driver and software and then reinstalled it. If the option was going to be available, doing the uninstall and reinstall would have fixed it in a jiffy.
I am out of ideas as to any other cause besides an update, as you mentioned. If you have installed the printer on another computer, see if the options are there, if not, they aren't available.
    Happy Monday to you

  • Black ink issues

I can print in black ink from my Kindle Fire, but neither a Dell laptop nor Dell tower will print in black.  They'll both print in color, but no black.  Test pages/cleaning pages have no black on them whatsoever.  Ideas??

    Hi @bubba_gump,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I'd recommend that you follow the steps within this Printer Prints a Blank Page or Does Not Print Black or Color Ink for the HP Photosmart 5510 e-All-in... document. If those don't appear to resolve the issue, then please let me know what country you're in and whether the printer is in or out of warranty, thanks!

  • Photosmart C7280 All-In-One won't recognize new black ink cartridge

Black ink was very close to running out, purchased a new one and replaced it. Now whenever I try and print something I get a popup that says: "Install new black ink cartridge if available. To continue with other colors, press Continue. Black color will be simulated. Text and photo quality will differ from those printed when using all cartridges. If empty ink cartridge is not replaced soon, all printing will stop. To cancel, press the Cancel button on printer."
I've tried turning it off and back on, taking all the cartridges out and putting them back in, etc. I printed a test page and black prints just fine, but whenever I try to print from Ctrl+P I get that error. How do I solve this problem?

Thank you for your updated information.
Since you are able to print from you computer and the printer isn't indicating this message, then I would recommend uninstalling the software. I will provide a HP document here to help you. (If this printer is connected by a USB cable, then please remove it from the computer.)
Next, please clean your Temp folder on your computer. I will provide a document on performing this step here.
Now, install the full feature software from the HP website here. Make sure you choose your correct operating system; Either 32 bit or 64 bit. I will also provide a HP document on Installing the Printer software; Either USB or Wireless Connection.
This should remove this error message you are receiving. Please let me know if you are still receiving the same message.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

  • HP Officejet Pro L7580-Will not print black ink after I have replaced cartridge.

I Have an Officejet Pro L7580. It worked fine until I replaced the black ink cartridge. After replacing it I cannot print in black. I printed 1 or 2 sheets when first replaced-then it stopped (only the black will not print). After a hard reset it printed 1 or 2 sheets then stopped (printing the black). The quality test page did not print any black and there were globs of black ink on the page. The color prints fine and it show a full black cartridge. Followed multiple troubleshooting steps, to no avail.

    Hi melissaccss,
I see you have replaced a cartridge and can no longer print black ink. I appreciate the troubleshooting you have done so far, but please take a look at the following document to see if you have done all that can be done; Fixing Ink Streaks, Faded Prints, and Other Common Print Quality Problems.
If the issue persists, I recommend calling HP and letting the know the issue as well as the steps you have already completed. It may be helpful to even let them know you completed all of the steps in HP document #c01957673.
If you are in Canada or US call 800 474 6836, or you can Contact HP Worldwide.

  • Not printing black ink after new ink cartridge installed (HP Officejet Pro L7555)

I have an HP Officejet Pro L7555 on which I just replaced the black ink cartridge.  Now it won't print in black at all.  I have tried cleaning the printhead multiple times to no avail.  I only get printouts of boxes in all colors except black and nothing else written on the page at the end of each printhead cleaning cycle.
When I print the Self Test Diagnostic Page, it comes out in Magenta instead of black.  On this page, it shows that both printhead are in good condition.  The ink level on the black ink cartridge is shown to be full as would be expected for a newly installed cartridge.
I have replaced other cartridges on this printer before, and have not had this issue.  Could anyone please help?

Thanks, garytech1.  I have seen the document.
Solution 1. I have used and am using only genuine HP cartridges.  The one I recently replaced was black.  I have replaced the other colors before without problems.
Solution 2. I am using the correct type of paper. There are no streaks on the printouts.  Any printing I try from a document with black text comes out blank. The only two types of printouts I have obtained are:
      a. The Self Test Diagnostic Page, which comes out in magenta and it has no streaks.  It also lists the status of the printheads as being good.
      b. The printout that follows a printhead cleaning that has all color boxes except black. There are no streaks here either.
Solution 3. I have checked the print settings (I have Windows XP SP3) and they are all correct.
Solution 4. I have printed the PQ Diagnostic page and it is all blank except for some colored boxes.  There are no streaks in them.  No grey  boxes appear.
Solution 5. There is nothing wrong with the images or documents I am trying to print.
Solution 6. I don't see why I should have to spend $70+ to replace the black/yellow printhead when:
      a. The yellow color comes out fine in the colored boxes
      b. All the diagnostics (the ones that are in the installed software as well as the ones I obtained from the HP website) all show the condition of both printheads to be good, and
      c. When all printing was working just fine before I replaced the cartridge.  Is there a physical way to clean the printheads since it appears from all of the above that it is the genuine HP ink that may have actually plugged it up?
    Thanks for your help!

  • My hp printer 7520 is not printing the black ink.

hp 7520: I have an empty photo black in but I have not printed photos. I have replaced the other black (with a pentagon) but the printer still seems to be using the empty photo black(bow tie icon) -  (and i have no black being printed). I have no spare black bow tie ink,and i don't need it anyway. Help

    Hi @southmimms
The black cartridges have their own purpose, the photo black is for printing photos and the Black is for text. The second black cartridge is not there to back up the first one when it becomes deplete. When a cartridge is depleted it needs to be replaced.
    Source
    Since you replaced the black cartridge, and the printer is still not printing black ink, one of the first things that comes to mind is the cartridge vent. Please use the steps below to check and clear the vent area;
Examine the vent area on each cartridge, above the HP logo on the top of the cartridge.
If the vent is clogged, use a straight pin to gently remove excess adhesive from the vent.
    1 - Clogged vent
2 - With a straight pin, gently remove excess adhesive from the vent
    3 - Unclogged vent
If the issue persists, please use the following document to troubleshoot the quality issue you are experiencing. Fixing Ink Streaks, Faded Prints, and Other Common Print Quality Problems.
Finally, if you complete all of the steps in the document above and the issue continues, my own personal recommendation, not one of HPs, is to use the solution offered in the following video.  I only suggest doing this if he printer and printhead are out of warranty.  Hot Water Printhead Flush - HP Ink Series Printers with removable Printhead.
I have recommended this solution to others and have seen success, but I can not guarantee this will resolve the issue, it is an end of the line kind of effort. I hope it helps.
I hope one of my recommendations resolves the issue.
Note: Although you do not use the photo black it is important to replace empty cartridges to protect the printhead from becoming damaged.

  • Black ink cartridge will not print

I just finished a one hour online chat with HP Support. The black cartridge of my C6180 will not print. After going through many steps the Support tech stated "I appreciate your patience and efforts in performing all the troubleshooting steps provided. I apologize to inform you that we have tried all the possible troubleshooting steps that should have resolved the issue. However, the issue at hand is with the hardware of the unit."
My printer, the C6180, is only 15 months old and I paid $239.99 + charges - no warranty purchased. This printer was only used in my home and always treated gently. I was told that the best HP can do for me is allow me to purchase a refurbished C7280 for $224.99 or a refurbished C8100 for $239.99. Needless to say, I refused the offer. I informed HP that I will never purchase another HP product. BUYER BEWARE!

What happens when you make a black copy?  Does the printer go through the motions of printing but there is no black ink on the page?  Try printing a test page from the front panel as shown here.  If there is no black printing then remove the black cartridge and gently blot it on a damp tissue.  Do you get a mark of solid black ink?  If there is a blot of black ink but no black printing in the self test pagethen your printer likely requires service.

  • Area under ink cartridges covered in black ink

The are under the ink cartridges (when they are all the way to the right) is so covered with black ink, it rubs off on the plastic rollers and leaves big vertical black streaks on EVERY page.

Hi , I understand that under the cartridges, it is covered in black ink. I will certainly do my best to help you. There would be a reservoir under the cartridges that should catch the extra ink, if it is full, you may have to have the printer serviced or use something to soak up the excess ink if you are out of warranty. I have included a document for fixing print quality issues, run the cleaning tool, to see if it may help.Fixing Print Quality Problems for the HP Photosmart Premium Fax All-in-One Printer Series (C410a, C410b, C410c, C410d, C410e). If the issue continues, please Contact HP Support for further assistance. My C7280 will not recognize the new black ink cartridge.   I bought a new one.  Same problem.  I reset.  I updated software, I cleaned contacts.  I have been through every solution posted on line.  None work.  Any ideas?
