Calc with Current and Prior Periods Data

Hi Everyone - I would like to come up with two types of calculations usingamounts from prior periods (dynamically) 1. "Net Sales" (current period) + "Net Sales"(current period - 3 months) + "Net Sales" (current period- 6 months) + "Net Sales" (current period - 9 months)i.e. If current period = June ... Net Sales Amount in June + NetSales Amount in March + Net Sales Amount in December of the yearbefore + Net Sales Amount in September of the year before. 2. Sum "Cash" for the past 12 months (current period tocurrent period - 11) In both cases, we'll need to handle getting amounts from the prioryear, as well. I can feed the "current period" in thru a sub var, yet(assuming that is the correct function, I am not sure how to set up@PRIOR with Current Period - n Periods... I appreciate your help. I'd suggest you use a Query filter (or a report filter) to retrieve only rows that match this criteria on years. Since you need two values, I may have to use the filtering operator 'in list'
Difference between those two is query filter will only retrieve to values where year = 2008 or 2009 from the datasource (so if you want to change the year values, you will have to refresh document), while report filters are active on the query output (which means that no refresh from the DB is required if you need to change values), which might bring a better experience if you need interactivity in the report. Moreover, if interactivity is important and you are working with WebI XI 3.1 SP2, you can embed these report filters into Input Control, and command the filter from a graphical widget like check boxes, to let user control which years he wants to view/ compare in the table (or chart).

Displaying current and prior quarter data in FR

Hi,
I have two grids in report.Grid 1 and Grid 2.
I have to display data for current quarter and current year in Grid1
and Grid 2 should display data for prior quarter and year should change accordingly.
Ex Grid1 : Q4 2008 Then Grid2: Q3 2008, this works by using relative period.
But problem is when Grid1: Q1 2008, Grid2 should be: Q4 2007.
How would this be possible?Can we use any formula or condition?

Of course it works, I tested on my environment, independently of what I have as accounts or anything else. If you want Grid2 to show the prior Quarter swap the values like this:
Grid1 Column A: Current Point of View for Period
Current Point of View for Year
Grid2 Column A: Period Current Point of View for Period offset by -1
Current Point of View for Year
You dont need to worry about the Year, for it knows to go back based on the other parameters.
If you select in your POV__________________________Year: 2008________________________Period: Q1
You will get the following results:
Grid2: Q4 2007
Grid1: Q1 2008

Report with Current and Prior Year

I'm looking to create a report with fields Report Group, Year, and Actual Dollars. Where the Year includes the current year and the prior year (NOT user input). The format would be:
Report Group | | Year | | Actual Dollars
Product Revenue | | 2008 | | $100
Product Revenue | | 2009 | | $200
etc
Sounds simple enough but I'm having difficulty getting it to work since I need the Year field in the report (and I'm new to WebI).

How to create logical columns for current period and prior period

Hello all.
Is there any way in obiee to create a new logica column in BMM layer that says "CURRENT PERIOD" AND "PRIOR PERIOD" OR ONE SINGLE COLUMN THAT SAYS "PERIOD".
In those columns what I need is if it a current period column it shoould have 03/01/2012-03/31/2012 (this month date range)
and in prior period column I shouldhave 02/01/2012 -02/29/2012(which is previous month date range).These columns I will be using in my reports.
Please help me if we can create any such columns with these conditions/requirements

MBEWH is the valuation history, this is only updated with the first movement after a period closure. And the period is a month.
There is no table in SAP that holds the stock information on daily basis.
You have to develope this yourself. Easiest method by copying a table like MBEW and MARD daily to a Z-Table.
A stock situation at a certain date can be calculated with MB5B.

We knew about this report, however, it gives information one below the other if we run, say for 2 periods, but what we are looking for is something as shown in example below
Empl #      Empl # Name    Prev Pay period Net Pay        Current Pay period net pay.
123              XYZ                     $ 1200.00                                 $ 1200.00
256              ABC                    $ 2000.00                                $ 3000.00
We want to run for 2 periods at a time and get the results as above. That way, payroll dept can run this report and compare if we are paying too much in current pay, compared to previous pay. This is basically to avoid any typos when they create new pay records in infotype 0008.

Hi,
Both current and historical data are always stored within the same table. There is no option to create separate tables for each that are managed by OWM.
However, you do have the option to use dbms_wm.PurgeTable which can be used to purge a set of data, and optionally store it in a archive table. But, after that is done the data is no longer under Workspace manager's control or the versioning environment. From the description that you gave, I am unsure if this would be sufficient to satisfy your requirements. I am guessing not, but wanted to make you aware of the functionality.

Previous and Prior Year Date Values

How do I get the Previous, Prior year month and Prior year previous month values from a given date?
Ex: Input would be: 05/01/2008
The output should be:
05/01/2008 - Current Month
04/01/2008 - Previous Month for the Current Year
05/01/2007 - Prior year current Month
04/01/2007 - Prior Year Previous Month

Then you'll probably do a self-join. In one copy of the table, you'll get the data from date d1, and in the other copy, you'll get the data from date ADD_MONTHS (d1, -12).
If, ultimately, you are going to show four sets of figures (from four different rows representing four different dates) on the same output line, then you may find it more convenient to do a pivot rather than a self-join. Search for the buzz word "pivot" and you'll get lots of examples. You might start by selecting four rows:
WHERE   dt IN
        ( d1
        , ADD_MONTHS (d1, -1)
        , ADD_MONTHS (d1, -12)
        , ADD_MONTHS (d1, -13)
        ) ...and then pivoting that data into four columns:

Dynamic webform with actual and forecast scenarios data

Hello,
How to design a Plannning WebForm having 12 columns for months (Jan to Dec), displaying actual scenario data for past months, and allowing input of forecast scenario data for the current and future months ?
I guess i could put 12 substitution variables in columns titles : &scen_i = actual or forecast.
1) Is it OK ?
2) No way to use Planning variables instead of Essbase variables ?
3) Your solutions will be appreciated. Thanks

Well the idea of copying the actuals to fcst scenario is a good one. I have a similar issue currently where i have some actual months combined with FCST months. The problem is actual months must be read only and fcst must be writable. So even though i copy these actuals to Fcst, i cannot prevent users from changing actual months data.
Another solution that i found is to use shared members. Creating a seperate member with chiildrens as months.
I simply define Childrens of the member in the webform. After every month i add a extra child(month) without touching any of the webforms. I have not studied it entirely yet but sounds to be interesting Let me know your views.

GL Tables Partitioning with daily and monthly periods

This implementation(bank) has a requirement for 'daily periods' (01-Jan-2010 ...31-Dec-2010 ) and 'monthly periods' (Jan-2010 ...Dec-2010)
They are also using multiple sets of books, multi-org.
Please advise how to best partition GL tables to best serve those requirements.
Secondly,
Has anybody tried using an on-update trigger on GL_PERIOD_STATUSES to automatically create partition?
if CLOSING_STATUS changes to 'F' or 'O'
and period_name not in dba_tab_partitions
create partition
We plan to use GL_PERIOD_STATUSES because GL_PERIODS.period_name
still changes until the period_name becomes used.
Is there a much better way of doing this?

Banks in our location are regulated by central bank and subject to daily report requirements, therefore the daily periods.
gl_balances and gl_je_lines are the two tables we are looking to partition.
estimated records for daily is around 500K to 1M.

Changed to "Securing shared disk: with accounts" and lost previous data?

I installed a TC in July and have been doing Time Machine backups to it ever since. Today, I decided to add File Sharing accounts using the Airport Utility. I created two accounts. The next time Time Machine ran, it failed on login. I reconfigured it to use one of the two new accounts, and (not surprisingly, in retrospect) it began a complete, new backup.
The Finder tells me that 150GB of the TC disk is already in use. I hope that's the space used by my former backups... but how do I find them? Whenever I try and open the TC in the Finder, I'm prompted for one of the new account/passwords, neither of which allows me to view any of the former data.
Is it possible to access data that was written to the TC disk prior to my switching to account-controlled file sharing?

Actually, it turns out it was still there and accessible. I went back to Airport Utility and switched "Securing shared disk" back to using a disk password, as before, and there was the "full" disk . . . containing my original sparseimage file, as well as a new Users folder and a Shared folder. The latter contained the sparseimage file from the new backup.
I hope that I can replace the new sparseimage file (in /Shared) with the original one (in /), and switch back to using accounts to control access to the TC disk.

Issue with Apex and IE , losing data for items on submit

Hi All,
I am facing one problem in APEX when i run my page on IE 8. When i submit the page i lose the data for all my items while the same does not happen on Firefox mozila and Google chorme.
Actually i have one select list which has one dynamic action associated with it when i select the options from this list other object become enable and disable with that action and page get submit.
but when i select this list in IE page get submit and my value which i selected also get lost.
Please let me know if this is some issue with IE or Apex as soon as possible.

PLEASE HELP!!! Problem with Java and SQLServer Text data type

Hi there,
I have a java app. that reads from an MS SQLServer database. Originally, all long text fields were declared as NVARCHAR(200). The program worked fine.
Someone then advised that I change all long text fields to the TEXT data type. The program now crashes out with the following Exception:
"java.sql.SQLException: [JRun][SQLServer JDBC Driver]This ResultSet can not re-read row data for column 25."
Basically, I have a method that retrieves a resulset and iterates through it. The resultset is passed to another method during each iteration. In the example below, the 'specialNote' field used to be NVARCHAR(200). The code worked fine. Then when it was changed to TEXT, the program no longer works with the above Exception thrown.
Anyone know any special way SQLServer TEXT data types need to be handled?

Thanks for the suggestion. I originally had the code do what you suggested, ie, get the resultset then retrieve the data all within the same method. The data is then used to set properties in an object.
When I had to create another method that also retrieved a resultset but using a different primary key, then also use the returned data to set the properties in the same type of object, I didn't want to repeat the setter code. That's why I decided to pass the resultsets to the same method that did the property setting.
Unfortunately, it stopped working with the data type change.
Any other thoughts?
