Calculating an average in a Pivot Table column

Hello everyone,
I have a Pivot Table..
One Measure only
In Rows:
I have 3 fields: FieldA, FieldB, FieldC
In Columns:
I have 1 field: Field D
From field D, I have created 5 calculated items (to single out the column values) and a Total calculated item column to sum the 5 calculated items.
I have also enabled the Column Grand Total.
Now, I want to create another calculated item (I think?) to calculated the (Total calculated item column) / (Column Grand Total)
I tried creating a calculated item by doing the following (Total calculated item column) / sum(*), but this does not output anything.

  • Average of two pivot table columns in a 3rd pivot column??

    Is there a way to calculate the average (sum of C2/Sum of C1) and have it show in C3 of a pivot table?

    If I create narrative view it will be another view. And if I put that in between that two pivot view, it will show the space. I need to remove space between two pivot table within a single report so that it can appear as a single pivot view.
    Thanks

    Now, I want calculate a column which gives the average of Associate Headcount, ( 18878+18817+18770)/3 , how I can achieve that?
    I tried, using avg(associate headcount), it not returning correct average, any insight?
    Please share your ideas.

    Thanks Srini, The tried your solution but still the problem exists.
    I have created a new column, called Avg Headcount and entered condition in the column, I am using pivot table.
    max(rsum("Workforce Profile Facts"."Associate Headcount"))/max(rsum(1))
    Actual Results
    Month Year      Associate Headcount      Involuntary Termination Count (Associates)      Avg Headcount

  • % of calculation in GRAND TOTAL in PIVOT TABLE

    Hi Gurus,
    I have a requirement to calculate the percentage based on the grand total in pivot table,but in row wise i am getting the percentage while in grand total level i am not getting correct values.I have tried with all the options like:average,Sum,Default,Max,Min,count etc and also with the percent of row,column,parent column etc.
    Please give me a solution for this ASAP.
    view of my table is
    Previous Value||Present Value||change between Pres & Prev||% of change(((pres - prev)/pres)*100)
    10||20||10||50%
    00||01||01||100%
    10||05||-05||-50%
    here i should get values in grand total like
    20||26||06||23%
    but i am getting values when giving sum for %of calc in measures values
    20||26||06||100%

  • Custom sort pivot table columns with Essbase as the data source

    Is it possible to sort columns in a pivot table according to an arbitrary value that I define when the data is coming from Essbase?
    For example, say I have a dimension called Soda, with values Coke, Diet Coke, Dr. Pepper and Diet Dr. Pepper. I create a report with a sales measure with the measure labels on the rows and the Soda dimension on the column. By default the columns will be sorted alphabetically:
    Coke Diet Coke Diet Dr. Pepper Dr. Pepper
    Sales 1M .5M .75M 1.25M
    I want to create a report that looks like this:
    Coke Diet Coke Diet Dr. Pepper Dr. Pepper
    Sales
    I think I could do this if the source was relational just by creating bins or creating a custom column with a case statement that assigns each Soda an arbitrary value and then sort on this value. Everything I've tried with Essbase as the source, though, results in:
    State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 42043] An external aggregate is found in an outer query block. (HY000)
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
    1. You can try solve the 'An external aggregate is found in an outer query block' by changing aggregation rule for your measure both in physical and business layer.
    By default it's set to Aggr_External - change it to Sum
    In physical : Column properties->Aggregation rule
    In business model : Column properties->Aggregation tab -> Default aggregation rule.
    This may change the result - after changing check whether you still get correct values.
    2. Also, in case the desired order is the same as the order of members in the Essbase cube, and you want to leave Aggr_External, you can create a calculated column that will help you with the sort.
    See http://oraclebizint.wordpress.com/2008/04/28/oracle-bi-ee-101332-handling-sort-order-in-hyperion-essbase-931-evaluate-and-mdx/

  • Increasing the width of Pivot table Columns

    Hi Gurus,
    Small pivot table --> ( ie having less no of columns which generally can be seen in a single page without scrolling to the right)
    If i have a small pivot table , then in the column properties through additional formatting options i can increase the width of an individual column.
    However if the pivot table is Big,I am not able to increase the width of the individual column .
    I tried setting width in the additional formatting options in the Content Properties( just above Rows and below Section there is a small grey box containing finger).
    Now the Content Properties indeed increases the width of the column, but it also increase the width of the whole Pivot Table.
    See...If i have a fixed number of columns in a PIVOT Table that do not change with prompt, then this solution work fine...
    but the problem comes when the no of columns in pivot Table reduces based on the prompt selected.
    In this case the less no of columns tries to occupy the whole width set in the content properties.
    In short, with Content Properties the width of the PIVOT Table becomes fixed, irrespective of the no of columns coming.
    Also after setting content properties, I am not able to print the report to PDF.
    So the Question is... Can we increase the width of a Big Pivot Table whose no of columns keeps on changing based on the prompt....
    Big pivot table -->
    (ie table having no of columns which exceeds a single window frame and have to scroll to right to see the rest of the columns)
    I hope i have not made things messy...
    Thanks
    Ashish

    Ashish,
    Yes, you can set a fixed size for these. I'm sure you are fixing these because of PDF issue which might be irregular in sizes. Just play arnd with Custom CSS options.

  • Conditional Format In Pivot Table Columns

    Hi All
    I am wondering if it is possible to accomplish conditional formatting in each column of a pivot table.
    My table looks like
    Jan/12 Feb/12 Mar/12
    Bill 1.00 4.00 7.00
    Bob 4.00 1.00 3.00
    Charlie 5.00 1.00 2.00
    What I am trying to do is highlight the max(value) in each column regardless of the other columns
    So for Jan I want to format 5.00 / Feb 4.00 / Mar 7.00
    I have tried playing around with Rank but cannot seem to get it working properly.
    Does anybody know how this is possible?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi clueless,
    Just an idea...have you already tried to create an extra object max like max(measure by period, person)...so you will obtain the max value for each combination period,person.
    Afterwards you can use this object for your conditional report : when measure = max(measure) then 'red'.
    give it a try and keep us informed.

  • Pivot tables with column selector - navigation?

    Hi
    Just hoping someone can help. We maintain a large number of dashboards and would like to move to streamlining them by combining reports using column selectors. However when we have pivot table reports where the column selector on the rows are selectable on up to 5 different fields, but the pivot columns are split by one specific field, the navigation reports won't filter on the column headings. It will filter on the rows which can change between the various column selector options.
    For example we have:
    5 columns (5 types of application)
    The rows are either: advisor, status of app, month received, age of app, world region etc...
    The fact is # of apps
    This navigates to a list report which should prompt off the various fields in the column selector and the pivot table column headings (all are prompted) but it just ignores the type of application field and only prompts off the rows.
    Is it possible to have it prompting off both like a normal pivot table does?
    Sorry if that's not clear.

  • How to hide/suppress empty columns in pivot tables

    In a pivot table, is there any way to do something like "suppress missing data" to make an entire column hidden only if it is empty? I have a situation where I can't hide an entire measure because the measure has values for another dimension, but I would like to hide the column that is empty. See the example below. I would like to hide the combination of Dim1 and Measure 2, and the combination of Dim 2 and Measure 3. I can't hide all columns with Dim1 and/or Dim2, or Measure2 and/or Measure3. Is there any way to hide just the column with the empty combination? Thanks.
    Dim1 Measure1 Always populated
    Dim2 Measure1 Always populated
    Dim1 Measure2 Always null
    Dim2 Measure2 Always populated
    Dim1 Measure3 Always populated
    Dim2 Measure3 Always null

    Bhawna -
    That made a difference, but it still needs some work. The IfNull() function picked up every value in the columns that I wanted to hide and changed them to zero. The conditional formatting that you suggested hid the content in those columns from the HTML. However, there ended up being several issues:
    1) IfNull() picked up other null values that happened to be in the resultset, so the conditional formatting was applied to more than intended. I could correct that by changing the data value in the physical database columns for the entire pivot table columns that I want hidden, but then I have to work around having bogus values in those intersections. Still, that is a possible workaround.
    2) The column headers for the columns that I want to disappear did not go away. When I applied CSS display:none, it shifts the pivot table cells to the left, so a lot of the data ends up under the wrong column headings.
    3) CSS display:none only hides the content from screen readers. When I view the pivot table on the dashboard and print it to a PDF, the data in the columns that I want to disappear are back.
    That still seems like it's a long ways from "suppress missing data" for the entire column. Thanks for your suggestion.

  • OBIEE: Pivot table chart is not proper when GOURL is on Measure Column

    Hi All,
    I a facing an issue with Pivot table chart drill.
    Pivot Table columns:
    Row description column in row section.
    Column description (Periods) in column section and
    A Number format amount column in Measure Section (In BMM it is not defined as a measure column).
    GOURL written on the Measure column to enable the drill in Pivot table data.
    When I click on chart the pivoted reasults Graph: Vertical Bar, Type: Default, Style: Rectangle.
    It shows the row description in X axis but the amount is not shown properly (it just shows 1,2,3..numbers on Y axis instead of the amounts which are in lakhs) on Y axis and alos there is not vertical bars showing up.
    Any help in this regard is very helpfull.

  • Table Headings in Pivot Table

    Hello Experts,
    is it possible to view Table Headings in Pivot Table Columns? If not is there a work around for this?
    Thank You
    Regards

    Hi ZaidN,
    We do not have any direct option to do this.
    But as a workaround, we can achieve this using the following approach.
    Add a column to the criteria. Use the following in the column formula.
    '<table width="100%" align="center" bordercolor="#C9CBD3"
    frame="void" rules="cols" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">
    <tr>
    <td align="center" width = "200">
    <font color = "black">'|| 'This Month' ||'</font>
    </td>
    <td align="center" width = "200">
    <font color = "black">'|| 'Accumulated YTD' ||'</font></td>
    </tr>
    </table>'Where This Month & Accumulated YTD are the table headings.
    Do not forget to change the Data Format to 'HTML'
    Place this column on top of measures labels in Columns Section.
    But, you need to fix the width of all the measure columns and adjust the <td> width accordingly.
    Hope it helps. :)
    Award points if this post helped you..

  • Sorting on a total column or calculated column in a pivot table

    We have a pivot table showing customer activity by month. We have added a calculated field to show the YTD average instead of a total column. Is there a way to sort on this calculated field? We have applied a sort on the measure in the criteria, and our resulting pivot table sorts by the values in the most recent month, not by the YTD average.

    I think we cant sort when we use a pivot view becoz all the rows are already fixed. Say your rows are sales and volume and columns are year 2007 and 2008, imagine if you r given the sorting ability then if number of units solds is more then it need to change the rows (but in pivot table rows are fixed). So, we cant sort in pivot tables!!
