Calculating time lapsed using Now function

I have a column named Time Lapsed which is the difference between the present time and the event occured time. How will I use now() function to evaluate. let's say I have a datetime field called 'EventTime'. I tried the following calculation
now() - EventTime but doesn't seem to work. Please advise.

I created a data object calculated field "Now" : Now()
and a calculated field TimeSpan : Now - EventTime
where EventTime field is a datetime field which gives when the event occured.
Issues faces is the TimeSpan field should keep ticking like a Stopwatch, but this one only gives the value on loading.
How will I get around this. Any use case?

Calculated List column with Now() function

I am designing a Sharepoint list for recording entry and exit times. I have one column which has been set as time function with a calculation of =Now() a second column called [Out] with a Yes/No choice and a 3rd calculated column [Time Out] with a
formula =IF(Out="Yes",NOW(),"On Site"). This works fine until you add data into other columns then the [Time Out] column keeps on changing time. How can I make the[TimeOut] column only show the time when the [Out] column changes to yes

another approach
if first column represent the time when the item is creted, you don't need it. You could use [Created] column value
Next, set [Out] columnn with default value NO, and next you can use 2 scenarios
First one - you don't use the calculated column, you create a new one [TimeOut], text column. with default value="On Site"
You should also attacha workflow to your list, which will start when an item is changed ( only in this case ! ) wnd which will analyse if [Out]=yes - in this case will fill [TimeOut] with string value for now() value
Second one. you keep the calculated column, but the formula should contain converting datetime in string value

Time Lapse photos all appear the same - what's going on?

Hi folks,
This used to work for me, but for some reason, Premiere CS5 is now having problems. I take a bunch of time lapse photos and add them to premiere. I then select and drag them into the Video timeline, and change their duration. This used to work.
Now, however, when I select the different photos or play the video in premiere, all the photos seem to be the same as the first photo. Of course, I've checked and they're not the same. This is happening with all my time lapse projects now.
Any ideas?

Not sure... I am running CS6 and have never had this problem.

Using getDistanceFrom function in CLLocation

I would like to calculate the distance between the two coordinates, so I created two CLLocation objects as follow:
CLLocation *loc1 = [[CLLocation alloc] initWithLatitude:40.443561 longitude:-79.945592];
CLLocation *loc2 = [[CLLocation alloc] initWithLatitude:40.543258 longitude:-80.110773];
then I calculated the distance using getDistanceFrom function as follow:
distance = [loc1 getDistanceFrom: loc2];
however, the result distance is -155183754 (meters), which is unlikely.
I think I did something wrong when creating location objects with latitude and longitude, but I don't know what I did wrong.
Could you someone help me out with this?

Problem with importing images into time lapse

Hi
I am having problems with importing still images into a time lapse sequence in photoshop and would appreciate any suggestions!
I want to create a time lapse using a sequence of still photographs. All file names are sequentially name/numbered.
I am using the Motion workspace, and have followed all of the instructions available.
Create correct sized new document (film & video).
Create video timeline.
Set frame rate.
Choose 'create new video layer from file'.
Point to first image in the folder where the images are stored.
At this point, no matter what I have tried, I receive this error:
I have tried different sized new documents; tried jpegs and tiffs; tried different frame rates, tried different qualities and sizes of images; tried selecting the last image instead of the first (one recommendation).
If I use the 'Place' command from the file menu (and check the 'image sequence' box) instead of selecting 'Create new video layer' from the layers panel, it loads fine and I can still render the video.
It took me most of a day to discover this workaround, but every other reasonable 'how-to' that I can find says that I should be able to do it by opening files into a new video layer and it seems as though the new video layer option may give me more alternatives.
Anyone have any idea why I could be having these problems?
I have reset Photoshop, deleted the settings file, even reinstalled it. I use 64-bit on windows 7 and even installed the 32-bit to try that, but all with the same result.

Unfortunately, yes--I've tried it that way over and over, and every other way I could think of. The files are all in one folder, and I've converted the raw files to both tiffs and jpegs. I even tried converting them to jpegs at the final pixel dimensions. Each folder that I have used only contains one type of file, and they are all part of the same sequence and sequentially numbered. I have even tried renumbering the files with numbers first, numbers last, numbers only, moving underscores. I moved the files from my external hard-drive to the desktop ... I have a lot less hair than I had only a few days ago!
I've looked at a few other tutorials that outline the same sequence of steps, and tried them over and over, and then changing one step at a time to make sure that it was not a single step that caused the problem.
The thing that is really bugging me is that it works fine if I use the different approach of using the place command instead.
Anyway, thanks for all of your time. It's going to be a lot simpler to just stick with 'place' command and I will likely do that, but I tend take things like this as a challenge. I like to know WHY it won't work for me. Sometimes it seems that there is just no logical explanation!

This "DSTR(DADD(NOW(),-1,'Q'),'YYYYQ')" will give you just an year 2008 (if you run this today).
But this "DSTR(DADD(NOW(),-1,'Q'),'YYYYMM)" will give you an year and month of prev quarter

Need help getting people out of a time lapse

Okay, this is what I want to do. I have a clip of three guys working on a graffiti artwork. Its 30 minutes long. I want to speed it to a time lapse, but I dont want to show the bodies of the three guys. So the final product would look like the graffiti forming by itself.
The first thing I tried was to draw an animated 16-point garbage matte following the bodies while the layer below is a still frame of the final product. This will take me forever though. So I tried the time warp effect. I thought I could just blur out the bodies enough so that theyd just look like inconspicuous shadows moving around as the artwork forms. But rendering is a *****. I havent mastered the effect either. I couldnt figure out the proper settings so that the three guys would blur out enough so they wouldnt be too recognizable. (Ghosting doesnt really cut it either.)
What would be a good idea to get this thing done?

My suggestion would be to reshoot another project, but in time lapse using OnLocation. Figure out how long you want the clip to be, and from that how often you'll need to catch a frame. Say it works out to one frame every two minutes. So, every two minutes make sure the artists are out of frame.
That's the only way I know of to really accomplish the desired end result.

When I try to make a time lapse in lightroom it cuts off the end of the video

If you have creative cloud, there is a far better way to make a time-lapse using Photoshop. The Lightroom way works but is a very slow kludge that creates files that you have to recompress to make them work. I would only use this if you don't have Photoshop or quicktime Pro. Correct project settings for Brinno time lapse cameras?

I am totally new to all this so please forgive if an obvious answer. I have been doing a building project time lapse using some time lapse cameras by Brinno. They are the TLC200's (http://www.brinno.com/html/TLC200.html). I am about to start a new project to put together the final timelapse but have no idea what type project settings to start it as. They claim to record in 1280x720 HD and output a raw avi file of the time lapse sequence after filming (each frame i think is captured as jpeg). You pre set the number of frames it takes (eg 1 every 30 minutes like I have) and what frame rate it puts the sequence of individuale captures together and outputs to the avi file (I choose 10 fps). That is all the informatoin I have. Any ideas?

I used the (Apple branded) VGA adapter lots of times last year. Now I got back to one place I used it many times and it does not work. When I restart iPad with the adapter connected, I get the "accessory is not supported"message. But that same accessory WAS supported before.
This is very annoying as I planned a whole bunch of presentations starting this week to do with my iPad2 and that adapter.

I received the same error message, "Accessory Not Supported" from both the VGA and DV video adapters I purchased, both were boxed direct from Apple. However, to bypass this problem I simply clicked on Photos icon on iPad2 and flipped through photos until it displayed on my projector. I then exited the Photos app and my home screen displayed fine on the projection screen.
Some logic issue with the video adapters, but launching Apple Photo app initializes the video adapters then they work fine for mirroring after that.

I127 equals a check box. The formula retuns a value of the current date and time when a check is placed in the box. How does one lock that date and time so that it cannot be changed?

I don't think it is possible to lock in the date and time using a formula. You could put NOW() in a cell, copy, and Edit Paste Formula Results where you want the result.
Or if you are "time stamping" a lot, you may find this Automator Service (Dropbox download) helpful. It puts a "Today" function (actually it should be named "Now" because it includes both date and time) in your Services menu like this:
Just doubleclick the .workflow package to install it. You may have to click "download anyway" in System Preferences > Privacy & Security.
If you want you can assign the service a keyboard shortcut in System Preferences here:

This Time Machine software worked satisfactory until Monday Nov, 10 2014 and I have backups until that time. For several years, the software deleted the oldest back up to save the latest one. This is acceptable to me as I have off site storage that is updated every 3 months. How do I get Time machine working again?

I have spent a couple of days trying to respond to Linc Davis. Finally I figured it out . The following is a copy of data from my console from the initiation of a time machine backup until it gets stuck trying to calculate the time remaining. There is no indication that anything starts saving. I copied about 3 minutes of data. This is probably way too much data, but I do not know what is relevant.

Using Time Lapse function after importing video

Hello!
I have IMovie 08 and import my video via a sony handycam. I want to edit the video to reflect the time lapse style. The video would be too long and boring otherwise and my handycam won't allow me to record this way. Is it possible to do this in IMovie 08 during editing? Any suggestions on where I might watch a tutorial or read how to do this?

I don't know if it's a fix, but when them clips(fast one's), are in the project, click on it's blue gear(inspector),> Clip Adjustment> Speed= should be 100%. If it helps until fixed, try and slow it down to normal. Just a tempory fix, unless you find the problem on that way.

I am editing a video using CS6. I'm wanting to add a time lapse section of about 10 seconds or so.

When I bring the photos in, they are cropped. For example, the photos are of a building and sky. CS6 brings the photos in and has zoomed way in and cropped the building out to show only sky and clouds, so this is not as simple as using the zoom in/out function. The reverse is also true. My goal is to start the video with a time-lapse of 10 seconds but when I import the rest of the video clips, they shrink and assume the size of the photos. How do I change the photos and leave the rest of the video clips alone? Any help would be awesome. I am relatively new to CS6 and Adobe so I don't know if this is something that can even be done without upgrading to other programs.

No need for any magic or upgrades. You just need to read the help or watch some tutorials. To be candid, you pretty obviously haven't done that. Would take too long to tippi-toe you through everything, so by all means do a bit of reading up. E.g. images need to be prepared and resized suitably in Photoshop or you do your zoom pan and timelapse in After Effects...
