Calling father from the child class?

Hi...
And I want to learn how to:
public class FATHER{
int SAMPLE=0;
FATHER(){
Child mychild=new Child();
class Child{
Child(){
// I am child and I want to set my father's(who created me) SAMPLE var...
here is a small example.. I could not reached fathers variables in the child.. there must be an easy way to do that ..
Thanks ...

Actually, why would that happen?Because the father tries to create a child, itwill
become recursive.
KajOh, so it will become recursive due to the
constructor in the Father class?Nope, because of the ctor of the child class because it'll call either
implicitly or explicitly the father's ctor again.
kind regards,
Jos
ps. see for yourself:class Father {
   private class Child child;
   public Father() {
      System.out.println("father ctor");
      child= new Child();
public class Child extends Father {
   public Child() {
      System.out.println("child ctor");
}

  • Calling a Function in the Parent Window from the Child Window

    QUESTION: How do I call a function resident in the parent
    window from a child window?
    BACKGROUND
    I have a JavaScript function resident in the parent window
    that reformats information obtained from the Date object and writes
    the result to the parent window using the document.write( ) method.
    I would like to call this function from the child window and have
    it write to the child window instead. Is this possible? If not,
    must I rewrite the entire function and nest it in the below code?
    If so, what is the proper form of nesting?
    CODE: The code that creates and fills the child window is
    provided below. The highlighted area indicates where I would like
    to enter the information from the function resident in the parent
    window. I have tried every imaginable permutation of code that I
    can imagine and nearly destroyed my parent document in the process.
    I am very happy that I had a back-up copy!
    function openCitationWindow() {
    ciDow = window.open("", "", "width=450, height=175, top=300,
    left=300");
    ciDow.document.write("A proper way to cite a passage of text
    on this page:<br /><br />Stegemann, R. A. 2000.
    <cite>Imagine: Bridging a Historical Gap</cite>. " +
    document.title + ". [<a href='" + location.href + "'
    target='_blank'>online book</a>] &lt;" + location.href
    + "&gt; (");
    MISSING CODE;
    ciDow.document.write(").<br /><br /><input
    type='button' value='Close Window' onclick='window.close()'>");
    ciDow.focus();

    Never mind - I was doing something very stupid and wasn't
    calling the function as a method of a movie clip. I was simply
    calling checkTarget(event) rather than
    event.currentTarget.checkTarget(event); which seems to work.

  • Is it possible to call a subscreen/modal dialog box from the global class

    Hi,
    Is it possible to call a subscreen or modal dialog box from the global class ..
    or is there any option to display a pop screen or subscreen in order to get the values from user which as to be implemented
    in the global class..
    thanks and regards,
    Poornima.

    Hi Poornima,
    you should follow Uwe's suggestion. The only alternative I can imagine is dynamic document in a dialog container. But I don't know any standardized classes to make use with minimum effort. Have a look at report DD_ADD_FORM_INPUT. Here they put the input field in a container control in a screen; you can put the container control on a dialog container (CL_GUI_DIALOGBOX_CONTAINER).
    We will not get rid of any screen for the time being, but if your application is started from any screen, the DIALOGBOX_CONTAINER can start from there.

  • Class override, how to create the child class and then the base class

    I started to write a program for a smart DMM, the problem is every version of the DMM the company change the communication commend.
    My idea is to write a child class for every DMM version and every SubVI of the child will override the base class SubVI.
    My problem is, i want first to create one child class and after i will see every thing is work,  start to create the base class. that way i will see if am thinking the right way.
    My question is
    How can i create a child class and then create the base class and configure the SubVi of the child class to be Override of the base class?
    I tried to search in the property of the class but i didn't see nothing.
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    This can be done and I've done it on occasion.
    You simply create the base class with the dynamic dispatch methods you require (connector panes need to be identical to thos of the child class).
    Then set the inheritance of the class to inherit from this base class.  If your method is defined as a dynamic dispatch method in the parent, you'll most likely now have some errors (unless your child method was already DD in which case you might just be OK already).
    To change the inheritance of a class, right-click the properties of the class in your project and select properties.  I believe the ineritance tree is at the lower end of the properties.  Click on the "change inheritance" (or something similar) to choose the class from which you now wish to inherit.
    Say hello to my little friend.

  • Reflection: attributes from the base class

    Is there a way to get the attributes from the base class of a derived class via reflection? I only found methods to get the attributes from the derived class.
    Example:
    class A
    int a = 4;
    class B extends A
    int b = 5;
    Object unknown = new B();
    Code/Idea to get all attributes from baseclass A using unknown (here: a=4)?

    Thank you all for your hints. The mistake I make, was to use the baseclass, and not the derived class for getting the attributes. By using an extra parameter of type class I got all attributes in their context.

  • Calling functions of the inner class in .java code file

    Hello,
    I created a .java code file in Visual J#.Net and converted it into
    the application by adding the "public static void main(String args[])"
    function.
    I have created the two classes one extends from Applet, and the other
    extends from Frame. The class which I inherited from the Frame class becomes
    the inner class of the class extended from the Applet. Now How do I
    call the functions of the class extended from Frame class - MenuBarFrame
    class. the outline code is
    public class menu_show extends Applet
    ------init , paint action function---------
    public class MenuBarFrame extends Frame
    paint,action function for Menu
    public static void main(String args[])
    applet class instance is created
    instance of frame is created
    Menu , MenuBar, MenuItem instance is created
    and all these objects added
    I have Created MenuBarFrame class instance as
    Object x= new menu_show().new MenuBarFrame
    ????? How to call the functions such as action of MenuBarFrame class - what
    should be its parameters??????
    }

    Here's how I would do it:
    interface Operation {
        public int op(int y);
    class X {
        private int x;
        public X(int x) {
            this.x = x;
        private class Y implements Operation {
            public int op(int y) {
                return x+y;
        public Operation createOperation() {
            return new Y();
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            X app = new X(17);
            Operation f = app.createOperation();
            System.out.println(f.op(-11));
    }Your code, however, has some serious "issues". You typically don't
    instantiate an applet class -- that's the job of the applet viewer or Java plugin
    your browser is using. If you instantiate the applet directly, you're going
    to have to supply it an AppletStub. Do you really want to go that way?
    Again, use an applet viewer or browser, or better yet, why write applets at all?

  • Why does the child class need to implement the parent classes constructor?/

    As I was playing around with some code I came across this point :
    First Class
    public class A {
         public int x;
         A(int i){
              x=i;
              System.out.println("A is initialised");
    }Second Class extending it :
    public class B extends A{
         private int y;
       // Why do I need this constructor to call parents constructor?
      // My guess is so that when i make an object of class B referring to class A it should make sense?
         B(int i) {
              super(i);
              y=test;
    public static void main(String args[]){
          A a = new A(1);
          A b = new B(1); make an object of class B referring to class A it should work!!
          B c = new B(2);
          B d =(B) new A(2);  --> gives class cast exception!
    }I am little confused here, Can someone throw more light on it.
    Thanks

    You don't override constructors. However, every class, in it's constructor, must call some constructor from the class it's extending. In most cases this is simply super(). However, if your class does not have a default constructor (i.e. you've declared any other constructor, or the sub class does not have access to it, I.E. you've declared it private) then you must include a call to some other constructor in the super class. The constructor in the subclass does not have to be the same as the super class one, but you do have to invoke a constructor from the super class. I.E.
    class A {
      A(int i) {}
    class B extends A {
      B(String b) {
        super(0);
    }

  • Printing directly from the bean class

    i am using a 3 tier layer to implement an event calendar
    i have a calendar.jsp that sends form data to eventday.jsp, which extracts the form data and calls mtds from eventBean.java that connects to db. my print statements are in the bean class. my prob is that the required information are not printed.
    i have debugged calendar.jsp and eventday.jsp and am quite sure that both are ok. i have placed a simple print statement in the bean class n it does not get printed.
    can i know if it's true we can't print directly from the bean class?
    should i return the values to be printed in dayevent.jsp instead?

    i see, then will it be okay if i store the value retrieved from the bean in a vector n retrieve the vector content in the jsp page? but i remember my tutor sayin that it's poor programing to expose the data structure to other classes or pages? wat other mtd can i use then? thks!

    Could be a third party app preventing you from being able to login.
    Mac App Store: Sign in sheet does not appear, or does not accept typed text
    If it's not a third party issue, follow the instructions here.
    Quit the MAS if it's open.
    Open a Finder window. Select your Home folder in the Sidebar on the left then open the Library folder then the Caches folder.
    Move the com.apple.appstore and the com.apple.storeagent files from the Caches folder to the Trash
    From the same Library folder open the Preferences folder.
    Move these files Preferences folder to the Trash: com.apple.appstore.plist and com.apple.storeagent.plist
    Same Library folder open the Cookies folder. Move the com.apple.appstore.plist file from the Cookies folder to the Trash.
    Relaunch the MAS.

    So I cancelled the first & only order I will ever make thru this company & want my account deleted.

  • Rescheduled call disappears from the call list

    Hi Experts,
    We are working on CRM 7.0 We are having an issue while trying to reschedule the calls in the Call list.
    The rescheduled call disappears from the list and appears after some "X" time.
    Say, if the user rescheduled the call for 30 minutes and saves, the call disappears immediately from the list. Users are not able to view the call for some time, even after the rescheduled time. Even log out and log in is also not helping.
    Requesting your expert comments on the issue.

  • How to call the grand parent constructor from the child ??

    Hi All,
    I am having 3 classes.
    Class A.
    Class B extends Class A.
    Class C extends Class A
    i need to call the constructor of ClassA from Class C. how to call ??
    Thanks,
    J.Kathir

    Each class will implicitly call the parent default constructor if you do not call it in the code ie
    super();However you can call any of the parent constructors ie
    class Parent {
        int value;
        Parent(int v) {
            value = v;
        public void display() {
            System.out.println(value);
    class Child extends Parent {
        Child(int v) {
            super(v);
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            Child c = new Child(10);
            c.display();
    }
