Can 35mm Film Scans create a profile or must it be digital with EXIF data?

I have a lot of old minolta lenses to go with old manual minolta 35mm film cameras. There is no Meta data in the scans of the film comming off the scanner as I create the DNG file, at least none I'm aware of. However looking at the images in Lightroom it seems as if lightroom attaches such information to every image once it's imported.
Can this applicaiton be used to create profiels for scanned film images? Can I take the 9 shots of a chart, load them up, and create a profile using scans from 35mm film?
I realise that the instrutctions say the EXIF data allows you to have profiles automtaicaly apply. But I'm not worried about that feature.
My plan was to profile my old lenses and label the profiles so I can manually attach them to images in lightroom.
A fried of mine says he doesn't see where the lens profile creator can work without EXIF data but I don't see why not.

download exiftool.exe, drop it in the directory with your dngs, and then create a .bat file with the following command:
exiftool.exe -exif:FocalLength=35 -exif:FocalLengthIn35mmFormat=35 -exif:FNumber=2.8 -exif:SubjectDistance=10.5 *.dng
(adjust your numbers accordingly- subject distance is in meters)
run the .bat and it should tag your images with all the exif info that the profile creator needs. make sure you don't crop your images smaller than the original shot size too, otherwise your FocalLengthIn35mmFormat will be wrong

I am new to Catalyst and looking for a way to create components in Catalyst to be compatible with an existing application created in SDK 3.5.
I am working on a project for a client to reskin an existing flex application done in SDK 3.5, but they are not ready to migrate yet to SDK 4.0.
I really want ot use Catalyst to create some custom components for the new style of this existing application, but the problem is the that the spark component architecture and the old version 3.5 are not compatible. Is there a way around this until they are ready to migrate to 4.0 or will I have to create my components in flash and bring them into flashbuilder with a swc this way instead? What would be the best approach for me at this point, please help?

No. Flash Catalyst leverages the new component framework that was introduced in 4.0 (aka Spark). Flex 3.5 and earlier used a framework (referred to as MX or Halo). That framework is incompatible with Flash Catalyst.

To avoid the 311-profiles per user limit we would like to create composite profiles for composite roles.
Is there a function module or bapi that can be used to create composite profiles? If there is not, what do you think is the best way to go aboutr creating composite profiles in the background?

Following are the steps to create a composite profile:
To create or maintain a composite profile, choose User maintenance ® Manual Maintenance ® Edit profile manually.

1)Generate a work area (profile list) by choosing Generate work area, or entering the name of the composite profile you want to create or maintain. 2)The system displays a list of profiles. This list is empty when you create a composite profile.
3)Choose Create, Change, Delete or Copy.
If you choose Create, you should then choose the profile type Composite profile in the dialog box.
From the list of profiles, choose the name of the single or composite profile to be included in the composite profile using Add profile. To do this, use the pushbutton, Add profile.
You can add a virtually unlimited number of profiles to a composite profile.
When creating composite profiles, you can enter profiles that have not yet been created or activated. However, you must create and activate the missing profile(s) before you can activate the composite profile.

Howto create SCEP profile with ICPU to enroll with MEM server on Lion

How can I create a profile with iPhone Configuration Utility with SCEP settings that will enroll my iPhone with a MDM server on Lion?
The reason I want to is because I want to create an enrollment profile which cannot be removed by the user.
So my idea was to create a profile in the iPhone Configuration Utility with the rigth SCEP settings of my MDM server.
But I don't know what the settings should be or how to find them.

After biting the bullet and ordering more RAM, my computer now is working a ton better. So that must have been the main issue. With 8 GB RAM, I can now even run Parallels fluidly (better than my work PC!) where before simple things like logging in to my MBP after reboot could take forever.
The place I went to had several other people getting RAM upgrades at the same time as me, so between this and other comments I've seen in discussions here and elsewhere on the Internets, I take it to mean that either Apple should bump up the base RAM on its new machines, and/or stop charging so much for additional RAM.
I refused to believe a Pro machine bought with Lion installed would come with too little RAM for light to medium usage, but it was apparently the case. I'll mark this as a correct answer and hope some other poor soul will come across this thread and be helped by it.

Problems with the "Date Created" Metadata in Adobe Bridge

I am currently working on an electronic photo library for our organization. Part of my mandate is to add a Date Created metadata on all the photos since it is very important to know when the photo was taken. Some photos were dated since 1980s. Since we do not have the digital version of the old photos, we end up scanning these and, in effect the date specified on the "Date Created" was the date it was scanned.
I have the date of some of the old photos when it was taken, but for some, I only have the month and the year (sometimes, just the year). Inventing a day and a month is not an option.
Is it possible to enter a month-year or just the year on the Date Created field under Metadata?

The problem is that dates are recorded in the file in different schemas. Bridge is displaying the XMP Date Created field which was likely derived from the original Exif date (probably DateTimeOriginal, but may be DateTimeDigitized). This will be the date recorded in the file by the scanner software at the time it was scanned.
The IPTC Date Created field is handled differently. It seems counterintuitive, but if you work in the news business you will know that news photographers often use the IPTC Date Created field more like a "date submitted" or "date scheduled" property, so that photos for a particular shoot which may have been captured over multiple days will sort together. Because of this, most image browsers will not update the XMP Date Created (or Date Taken) fields when the IPTC Core date is changed.
You can edit the original capture date in various programs, which should cause both the Exif and the XMP Date Created fields to be updated. Two that come to mind are Lightroom and BreezeBrowser Pro (for Windows). I've found that with certain images it is necessary to use both programs to get all the dates to line up.

Scanning 35mm slides to create slide show

My objective is to scan 35mm slides and create a presentable slide show for viewing on a computer monitor and TV. (regular TV)
I am using an Epson 4490 Perfection scanner and Photoshop Elements 2 software.
This should be relatively easy, but I'm running into difficulty and can find nothing in the "help" section of the software that answers my question.
How would you set the scanning options to obtain a good quality scan, without the software automatically cropping the slide, and being of good quality when viewed on the monitor/TV?
After completing the scans, I'll need to create the slide shows and save them to disc. Any suggestions or information you could offer in these areas would also be helpful:
- Tutorials for creating slide shows, included in the Elements 2 program or elsewhere.
- What would be the best quality disc to save these to?

I haven't actually done what you intend but here's some things to consider.
Your 35mm slides have an aspect ratio of 3:2 ( 36mm x 24mm). Normal TVs and many Monitors have and aspect ratio of 4:3. Some widescreens TVs are 16:9. This means you wont get a 35mm slide to fit exactly. Either it will be 'letterbox' sshape on your screen or if you size to fit then something will be cropped off.
As for scanning you should consider what resolution you need for the end display. If your display has for example a width of 1280 pixels then you should aim to scan the slide to achieve the same number of pixels - which works out to be approx 355 pixels/cm or 900 pixels/inch. For a TV you could probably get away with less.
If your scanning the slides you may want to go flat out so that the images could also be printed out sometime in the future in which case you may want to scan at something like 3200 or 6400 pixels/inch.
Once you've scanned the images you'll need a program to make the slide show. Photoshop Elements 5 can do this but in my opinion Proshow Gold is a better program. Don't make a Video CD (VCD) - the quality of the playback is poor. Go for high quality DVD
Elements can't actually burn the DVD - you need another program for that. Proshow will do everything and more.
You can download a free program from Microsoft called Photostory 3. It will allow you to make the slide show for playback on your PC - including music - but to make a DVD you need another program. If you have a DVD burner the s/w for that may be suitable.

Can't create a profile or find newtwork

I have a WRT300N and a WMP300N card with 3 computers in my house. My bro's computer is wired. My sisters has one WMP300N card and works fine. My Computer was working fine I used it this morning then I lost my connection and my linksys wireless network box was greyed out and it couldnt find the network to connect to. After trying a few things I decided to uninstall and re install the WMP300N card and I did so now the first thing that pops up is Create A Profile. But there is no network being found and i can't click anything other than exit. Any Idea what to do? I know I've solved this problem in the past. And my sister's computer still works fine and has access to the internet. Any help would be appreciated thanks

Check the Wireless network settings from router ... Install the CD ... once it will show you settings to create the Profile .... Use the same settings as to configure the Profile .....
Reboot the computer after installtion .... see if it shows connected ....

FCP 4 can it produce 16:9 letter box or anaorphic shots to DVD & 35mm film

I'm going to shoot a feature length movie in the near future. I have the anamorphic lens and will purchase the wide-angle lens for my Panasonic DVX-100A. I'm considering upgrading to the G5 with the latest Final Cut Pro software, probably DVD Studio 4. I'm going to shoot in 16:9 24fps Progressive mode. I eventually want have the option from the mini DV master to make 16:9 formatted DVD's and transfer to 35mm film.
My question is; what mode will you suggest to shoot in-letter box or squeeze frame? Should I use the anamorphic lens or just use the wide-angle lens? Will the latest Final Cut Pro DVD software address all of these issues? Thanks.

For the best 16:9 image quality, use the anamorphic lens and, as far as camera settings, shoot in standard (4:3) mode. The image will be distorted - it'll be squeezed - on tape, but you can tell Final Cut Pro to correctly unsqueeze it very easily.
Do not shoot in Squeeze mode (or Letterbox mode) if you're using the anamorphic lens - you'll end up with a doubly distorted image that will give you nightmares in post-production.
If you need to use the wide-angle lens, you won't be able to use the anamorphic lens (from my understanding of how the lenses on a DVX100A work) though. If you're going to be shooting in (uncontrolled?) conditions where the wide-angle lens is needed, then - and only then - shoot in Squeeze mode and use the wide-angle lens.
Personally, though, I would put off purchasing the wide-angle lens if you already have the anamorphic lens. Shooting with the anamorphic lens produces a better 16:9 image than when shooting in Squeeze mode.
And, yes, Final Cut Pro 5 will give you what you need. And, when it comes time to produce DVDs, DVD Studio Pro 4 should be fine as well.

Whether you need to buy Mac OS X 10.7.3 depends on what version of OS X you have now.
If you have OS X 10.6.x or lower it is a paid upgrade from the Mac AppStore.
If you have OS X 10.7.x it is a free upgrade you get using Software Update on your Mac.

Hot to create color profile if I can't disable color management?

I have Canon PIXMA iP4600 printer. I wanted to create custom color profile for Canon Photo Paper Plus Glossy paper, but I can't disable color management in the Print dialog. There are two options: SolorSync (and I have to pick some color profile I'd like to use), or Canon Color Matching. There is no way to disable color management.
I tried to create custom profile by choosing Canon Color Matching, but it turned out to be way worse than the original Canon profiles. Jeans in printouts are not denim blue but ultramarine! I suspect this is because profile target was printed with some color profile enabled.
I just thought maybe there are some "fake" printer profiles out there? Profiles which don't translate anything and what goes in, comes out 1:1? This way I could work-around this problem.
My problem is that in printouts I need little bit more more saturated greens and 4-7% less red component.

As you have seen with the Canon iP driver, there is no function to disable color management, you either select ColorSync or Canon Color Matching.
When you select ColorSync, your output will use the default profiles assigned to the paper stocks for the Canon driver. If you wanted to see the Lab plot for that particular stock, open the ColorSync application and select the Profiles pane. If you then expand the Other entry you will see all the profiles for the default paper stocks for your iP4600 and their respective color gamuts.
If you then wanted to check which paper stock matched the code names, such as SP, MP and PR, you could select to print from an application and open the Color Matching menu. If you then set the option to ColorSync and leave the Profile set to Automatic, then open the Quality & Media menu and select Photo Paper Plus Glossy and then switch the menu back to Color Matching, you will notice that there will be writing under the Profile menu, stating the profile used - in this case SP2.
If these default values are not delivering the color output you want, then I suggest you set the Color Matching menu to Canon Color Matching and then use the Color Options menu to tweak the Magenta and Cyan values to boost the greens and reduce the reds.
Note that you should also set your application to let the printer manage the color.

Make sure you kill any firefox process that is still running. You probably have an error in the path location that the sartup link is pointing to. If you are trying to open two instances at once (I often do that) then you need to use the switch ''''-no-remote''''

You can't create different profiles or user accounts on the iPad. It was not designed that way. It was designed as a single user device - no matter what you see in the TV commercials.
You can use passcode lock the iPad, you can set up restrictions in order to prevent purchasing of apps, prevent changing mail accounts, dsiable using FaceTime, using Safari and you can age restrict some content as well in the restrictions.
