Can a PXI-5114 measure a 6.7v DC signal?
Using CVI 8.1
I have tried with & without the niScope_ConfigureVertical & niScope_ConfigureTriggerEdge functions.
The measurement either times out or it reads 0.00243.
I have put a BNC "T" on the input of the 5114 and see the 6.7v DC signal with a scope.

The PXI-5114 can measure a 6.7V DC signal. This digitizer can measure voltages up to 20 V. I believe the niScope_Auto Setup function, sets your vertical coupling to AC, but you want it to be DC coupled.
Prior to using CVI, have you tested your PXI-5114 with the NI SCOPE Soft Front Panel? More information about the NI-SCOPE Soft Front Panel can be found here.
If your digitizer is acquiring the signal correctly with the SCOPE Soft Front Panel, I would then proceed to test your digitizer with a CVI shipping example. For example, you may want to look at the Measurement Library example. You can find this example by going to Help»Find Examples, in CVI, and navigating to the Hardware Input and Output»Modular Instruments»NI-SCOPE»Measurements section of the NI Example Finder.

I have tried all of the sample programs for DAQmx Counter/Timer frequency measurement. If I modify them to use my hardware, I get run-time errors with conflicts with resources already assigned.

Thanks for the response. As I stated before, I have tried all of the examples available that apply. There are only three and one of those uses two counters. The two I have tried are:
Examples/Hardware Input and Output/Counter Measurements/Digital Frequency/
DigFreq-Buff-Cont-ExtClk-ArmStart.prj and
DigFreq-LowFreq1Ctr.prj
These examples default to using what appears to be traditional DAQ hardware (Dev1/ctr0 and /Dev1/PFI0). I changed the counter to mine (/PXI1Slot3/ctr3) and directed my signal source (PFI15 on pin 39) to the counter. No matter what I tried would not run. They would always compile but gave run-time errors ranging from resources already in use to “external trigger required”. I have no external trigger source and, if I did, there is no indication of how to assign it to the counter. NI has a very good X Series Users Manual that tells all of the great things you can do with the hardware, but there is NO CLUE how to do any of those things!!!! I know that some NI DAQmx functions use hardware resources that they never tell you about. I discovered that when trying to produce a single output pulse from a timer using counter #0. (Which, by the way, no one at NI could tell me how to do it.)
Measuring frequency should be very simple. The unknown signal is routed through a precise gate to a counter, and then the counter is read. NI DAQmx uses the opposite approach of using my signal as the gate and counting their internal source. However, the examples would not let me use the internal reference sources.
To answer your other questions, I am not performing any other measurements at the same time and the counter is not being used for anything else, period.

Ntsc video signal to image file with PXI-5114?

Is it possible to use a PXI-5114 digitizer to capture a NTSC video signal and reconstuct a single frame to be saved as an image file?

Hi Jason,
I think the example Kyle posted is for the NI 5112 digitizer, which has to use an IMAQ board to video trigger since it does not support video triggering. However, the 5114 is one of the boards that does support video triggering, including the NTSC format. More information can be found in the digitizers help manual (online here). If you are using LabVIEW, we have a basic video triggering example that you can take a look at and try out (the example is called "niScope EX Video Triggering.vi" and can be found from the LabVIEW Example Finder or by going to Start » Programs » National Instruments » NI-SCOPE » Examples from your Windows start menu). If you need to acquire the entire frame, that will probably require you to sample a very large amount of data, in which case you may or may not be able to stream it to disk. In the best case, you can acquire the entire frame in a single record without having to do any streaming to disk. Otherwise, you may need a digitizer that can stream high throughput to a hard drive RAID or something of the sort if you plan on acquiring a large amount of data. Worst case is that it is just too much data, too fast, and it cannot be streamed. Perhaps with more details of the signal and your expected sample rate, we may be able to provide some additional guidance on the possibilities of acquiring the entire frame. Hope this helps!

PXI 5114 - Seperate Triggers for Each Channel

We are using a PXI-5114 High Speed Digitizer. We were wondering if it was possible to set different triggers for each of the two channels. We are analyzing a NTSC composite video signal and would like to observe two different lines of video in a LabVIEW VI.

I would like to clarify a little bit about what you are trying to accomplish. Do you have one or two separate video sources you wish to hook up to your digitizer? When you refer to "lines" are you referring to the individual horizontal lines that make up a single video frame?
The amount of time it takes to reconfigure the digitizer for a new acquisition is not deterministic and will depend upon the speed of your machine as well as any other activity you have going on over the PXI bus. As a result, reconfiguring in between an event may not be fast enough depending on how quickly you expect the image to be moving. I am also not quite sure how setting up a trigger for the top horizontal line and then another one for the bottom horizontal line will get the measurement you are looking for because each line will be refreshed at a periodic rate by the video source. Triggering on a specific line will give you a record with the digitized data for that line but it seems like you will need to do some kind of processing on that data to tell if the data contains this line of the digitized image contains is object you were looking for or not.
Please let me know if it does not sound like I am envisioning the application correctly.

PXIe-414x Measure Rate

I'm trying to reduce my PXIe-4141 measurement rate below 16.6 ms, but haven't had any luck. I have found a number of similar posts, but nothing has helped so far.
My setup:
I'm using 1 channel on the PXIe-4141 to force a voltage on a pin on an IC. The PXIe-4141 is configured in single point mode, with "measure when" set to "on demaind" (1026). I'm programming with the C-dll with nidcpower version 1.9. After the inital configuration, I perform a series of current measurements. Between each measurement the IC's configuration is updated and the current output will change slightly. This is all automated so the configuration change happens within 1ms. The settling time of the current is ~10us. To measure the current I call "niDCPower_Measure". No addition pxie-4141 configuration is happening between measurments. Each call to niDCPower_Measure takes about 16ms when configured with 1 PLC or less for the aperture.
What I have tried:
I have played with the aperture with no luck. I can set the aperture to 10 and the measurement time will be 166 mS (as expected). I can set the PLC to 1 and the measurement time is 16 mS (as expected). If I set the PLC to .1 the measurment time is 16ms (not as expected). I would expect the measurement time to drop to closer to 1.6mS.
I have set source delay, and found that is doesn't effect my measurements.
I tried to play with "samples to average" but the only accepted value is 1. This match with what the help document says too. I don't think the PXIe-414x device supports this feature.
The dc noise rejection is set to NIDCPOWER_VAL_NORMAL (1044 ). I don't think this would actual impact sample rate based off the documentation.
If anyone can help me configure this device to reduce the sample rate, I would appreciate it.

I have made a minor modification to one of the samples provided with LabVIEW (7.1) so that you can get a feel for what you are trying to do.
On some of the systems that I have worked with sampling would be done over a number of cycles and banded. The frequency would be important as well. You will almost certainly have to process a real world signal before using this sample but this sample should give you an excellent start point though.

We should rethink if we want to clear hostFormat rather than have a hostFormatChanged flag. If there is no hostFormat at measure then it has to be fixed because there is no line break format to check for auto-size.

Oh my god, it is too long! You definitely check out types, casting and especially ODP.Net (it does everything for you)... etc. They can help you to simplify your code. I do not have enough time to copy paste it to Studio and understand and solve your issue, so I got title of your message as your main question.
In Oracle, you can create an autonumber field by using sequences object. This is really useful when you need to create a unique number to act as a primary key.
Basically you can create a sequence simply typing;
CREATE SEQUENCE MY_SEQUENCE;
now you have a sequence called "MY_SEQUENCE"... Then, I advice you select a number from sequence;
select MY_SEQUENCE.nextval from dual;
I said I advice actually kinda must, although it called sequence, I cannot be sequential. Do not even try to predict the value. You can be sure that it is unique number so you can use it.
Then insert you record and use that number part of your primary key. I think that's it. Have fun.

You are correct that you can use any of the analog input modules to take measurements, and use analog output modules for bridge excitation. You might also need to add other external components for bridge completion, depending on your sensor.

Pulse width measurement on two to four signals

Using the shipped PWM measurement solution I am able to make this work as needed on one signal. I would actually like to be able to do this same measurement on up to 4 signals at the same time. First, is this possible, and second, can this be done using a PCI-6601 counter timer card. My current card is a PCI6024E, and I am aware of the limitation of 2 counters, but I am hoping that the methods to get 2 signals to work will work with 4 signals.

Spencer, thanks for the answer. I tried using a PCI6024E with its two counters and single DMA channel, and the computer kicks back that the DMA channel is busy and cannot be used.

Why is the amplitude smaller when using the Extract Single Tone VI to measure the amplitude of a signal?

Whenever I measure the amplitude of a signal using the Extract Single Tone VI, the amplitude is smaller than if I measured the signal by hand by positioning the top and bottom cursors to the highest and lowest peaks of the captured waveform. Should I not use the Extract Single Tone VI to measure amplitude? I'm using Labview 6i.

I'm not exactly sure but I think the amplitude from the Extract Single Tone vi is in peak volts (Vp). When you use the cursors on a scope set to the top and bottom peaks, you are measuring volts peak to peak (Vp-p). If the Extract vi amplitude is one half of your scope reading, then this is true. Just double your Extract vi amplitude to get the peak to peak voltage. It also depends on the signal. If your signal is a square wave from 0 to 5 volts (TTL), this is usually measured in peak voltage. A sinewave going positive and negative (from -5 to +5) is usually measured in peak to peak.

Can my Airport Express be used to extend the signal for an iPad2

I am using a Linksys wired router as the beginning of my home network. There is an ethernet cable running from it through a wall to the Xbox 360 and an Airport Express serving as the base for the wireless network. I have an iBook on the other side of the wall and about 10 feet and an iMac about 20 feet with one wall in between. These two have some fluctuation in their signal but only between 4 bars and 3. I just got an iPad 2 and it is causing me grief because it struggles to maintain a connection just another 10 feet from the iBook. If I put it next to the iMac when it has full 4 bars the iPad gets maybe 2. The iPad has full bars if next to the router. That kind of defeats the purpose of buying an iPad. So, my question is how to rearrange the network so the iPad is happy in the living room where I mostly use it. I had considered moving the iMac and using it as a base station to free the Airport Express for other duty but where I want to move it is further away from the living room. Right now the Airport is wired to the router. Is this necessary for it to be a part of the network? I know I can use it to get music from iTunes to speakers but would that placement also work as a wireless extender? Would just buying another router for the Xbox location and putting the Airport there also be a better solution?

ladybastet, let's clean up some terminology. You should designate only one router for your network. At present that is the Linksys. Your wireless access point is the Express, and it gets its network connection from the Linksys. Is that correct?

Now that you know your Linksys is the router, is the above correct? Unless the Linksys is also a wireless access point, the iPad's proximity to it will not matter. Only its proximity to the device creating the wireless network is a factor. In your case, I believe that is the Express.

I'm wondering if you have things configured properly, particularly if you have configured the iMac to share its network connection over AirPort. I'm even wondering if your iPad has unintentionally joined a neighbor's wireless network.

Using the iMac to share a wired Ethernet connection to create its own wireless network is certainly possible, but it is less than ideal. For one, the iMac would have to be powered on all the time.
You do not need or want another router.
It is impossible for me to be certain of your network environment (meaning, the size and configuration of your home, the proximity of competing wireless networks, the number of network devices, and the potential for interference) but you might be better off replacing the wired Linksys router with an AirPort Extreme. That would give you the ability to create a "roaming network" or to use your Express to extend the Extreme's wireless network. I think this would be the easiest solution, but given the uncertainly of your description this expense may not be necessary.
Much of my confusion stems from your original question: "Can my Airport Express be used to extend the signal for an iPad2" - the quick answer is yes, but a prerequisite question is, "what signal?" The only "signal" I can determine that may be relevant is the one created by the Express. Once we have the terminology fixed, perhaps we can fix what's wrong with your network.

Can i convert a wav file to a digital signal without using DAQ?

i tried the coversion of a sine wave to digital signal, ofcourse it doesnt work on converting wav file to a digital signal. i am also new in labview. i tried to explore it but there are many functions that i can't use.
so my these are my questions.
1) is a .wav file is an analog signal?
2) can i convert it without using any DAQ device?

.WAV is a digital "signal". It uses Pulse Code Modulation to encode analog signal. You don't need a DAQ device to "convert" it to analog. Any computer with a sound card, and media player can "convert" a .wav file to the analog audio signal it represents
