Can a table cell be split across pages?

If I have a table, several rows, and one of the cells is longer than a page, can it be split between pages? I have not  yet found a way to do it. Surely, it can be done.
Richard

You have CS5? Make your page size twice the height for that page, then cut page in Acrobat later.
You would also have to add a manual page number to the 'second' page and restart page numbering...
Not pretty, but it may suit your needs...

  • Can a Table Cell span more than one page?

I'm working with tables in Pages to create a list of literature and important takeaways from each article. Sometimes the important information is more than I can fit on one page. However, Pages doesn't seem to be able to handle splitting cells across multiple pages. Instead, it seems to "push" the overflow text beyond the page, so I can't even see it as I'm typing.
In Word, such situations just cause the table cell to continue on to the next page. But I can't figure out how to do that in Pages. (And I'm a little concerned that there's not a way to handle this.)
    Thanks!
    Gary

The cell in question does split across 2 pages. "Do I need to" do that isn't really the point.
My question was whether Pages can handle splitting a table cell across 2 pages.
    Pages can't; Word can.
(I'm trying to switch over for all of my future work into Pages, so there's a learning curve for me. The type of work I'm doing does have cells that split over 2 pages. In Word, it's not a big deal. Unfortunately, in Pages, I need to split the row in order to do the same thing. Which is kind of a pain, since I'm building the table dynamically and may insert rows above, below or between existing rows. In Word, it automatically handles moving the cells across multiple pages - or merging them back if I edit the text or insert/remove rows above.)

  • Table split across pages

Is it possible to setup Indesign to automatically split table across frames like Microsoft Word do across pages?

ID splits tables only between cells rows, not mid-row, but it will certainly split a table between frames.

  • Avoid Row Splits across Pages

    Hi,
In the report I'm working on - I've several groups. Each row in this group is reported as a table w/ 4 rows.
Question: How can I avoid row splits of this table across pages. Pls advice.
    Thanks.

This method does work. I use it all of the time. What versions are you using (XML Publisher, MS Word e.t.c.). Are you sure you are saving the new version of the template? It should not get reset in the way you are saying.
    Cheers,

  • Table cell objects removed by Pages ver 5.1

I created a document in the previous version of Pages, and now when I open it with Pages 5.1, it removes the objects from the table cells.
How can I overcome this? I thought I might work around by opening it in the previous version, but I cant figure out if it is still installed.
    HELP
    Thanks
    Brian

No wonder it was a free "upgrade"! Economics 101; Price = value.
Fortunately I have a pdf version, and am currently copying and pasting the objects from the pdf into the pages file.
Found the old version, thanks. BUT V5.1 "upgraded" the file and 09 can't open it.
In future will save as a MS word file, then can work in OpenOffice, at least that's free AND works!

  • How can a table cell span more than one page?

I need to configure a table of text that permits a single cell containing a large quantity of text to automatically span several pages. This works easily in WORD but not (apparently) in PAGES. I have used the Inspector to check that the table is configured to "Automatically resize to fit content", and that text also wraps in the cells. However, when text entered into a cell reaches the bottom of the page it disappears from view, even though more text can still be added to thst cell. Thus, the contents of the cell do not automatically flow into view on the next page (as automatically does happen in Microsoft Word). The "Pages08 User Manual", page 177, makes no reference to this facility. Neither does the video tutorial on Pages tables. Furthermore, I can find nothing in the "Template Chooser" that I can adapt to my needs. I very much doubt that this is a real limitation in Pages software - so what I am doing wrong?

Thanks, Peter. Okay, I have tried this but without too much success.
I set up a landscape, two column page and imported the Russian text. That resulted in 13 pages of Russian text, in both left and right columns. I then added the English at the end of the Russian and now have 26 pages in total. Then, as you suggest, I inserted a Column Break after the Russian. This forced the English to begin afresh on page 14.
Now I need to find a way of keeping all the Russian text in the left column of all the 26 pages so that I can have the corresponding English translation adjacent in the right column (for all pages 1 - 26). I have explored your suggestion of Layout Breaks but think I have either misunderstood you, or I am doing something fundamentally wrong!
Okay, so now I need to be a little more specific to help you visualize the problem. On my page 1, left column, I have three paragraphs of Russian. Para 4 begins close to the bottom of the left column and flows, as expected into the right-hand column of page 1. Now, if I insert a Layout Break at the end of para 3, I find paras 1-3 are uniformly shared across both the left and right columns. Para 4 stays in the left column, and understandably has moved up somewhat, but para 5, following correctly below para 4 in the left column now flows into the right column, following on from the end of para 3. There are no visual breaks, so now my page 1 left column reads paras 1, 2, first part of 3, then 4 and first part of 5, while the right column now shows the second part of para 3 and the the second part of para 5. This is confusing to understand and confusing to read. This is no good at all.
Inserting a Section Break after para 3 results in para 4 beginning in the left column of page 2 and the whole of the right column of page 1 remains blank. It also seems that that right column is now rendered inaccessible and so I will not be able to put the English of paras 1- 3 into it so that they are adjacent to the Russian paras 1-3 in the left column of page 1.
Inserting a Page Break instead of a Section Break produces the same effect.
In conclusion, I am still stumped. To keep all the Russian in the left column of all 26 pages, I would need to insert a page break at the end of every page .... but then there would seem to be no way to insert the English into the corresponding right-hand columns, beginning of course on page 1. I am surprised that such a fundamentally useful word-processing facility is so complex (or perhaps impossible) in Pages.
Thanks, again, Peter. I have to say that you have been more helpful and informed than any others that have tussled with me over this difficulty.

  • How to keep together Title + table's line across pages

Hi all, I have a question.
I'm trying to create a .rtf template where I have a table with 4 lines and a title <PROJ_NAME>
I need to repeat this table (with all the necessary information - 4 lines) as many times as the projects' names are stored on the DB.
For example: if the employee has 4 projects, on the report I will see 4 times these table and the relative project name as title.
So, the repeating group mechanism works perfectly, but I am not able to control how the table's lines are splitted across pages....
In other words if I have two pages in my .rtf template and I am at the end of the first page:
    1) I don't want to see the title on the bottom of the first page and the relative table above on the second page (title and table splitted on two differents pages)
    2) I don't want to see the title and a portion of the table on the bottom of the first page and the rest of the table (1,2 or 3 lines) above on the second page (table splitted on two differents pages)
At the end I'd like to see always title and table together even if the page finishes. If the title + table exced the table's vertical border, it has not be splitted, but rewrite entirely (title + table) on the next page.
    The syntax is this:
    <?for-each-group:G_PROJ;./PROJ_NAME?><?PROJ_NAME?>
    TABLE WITH 4 LINES
    <?end for-each-group?>Page break
I tried also, reading the forum, to use the paragraph properties (Keep lines together), but nothing.....
Anyone can suggest me something ?
    Thanks in advance
    Alex

    After the for loop,
take a table (suppose A) with one row and one column. In that table insert the Project name tag. Below that tag, insert an inner table(suppose B) in table A with 4 rows and columns you wish. Now select the outer table A(select the whole table), and in the table properties/Row , in the options , uncheck the 'Allow row to break across pages' property.
    end the for loop.

  • Subforms across page breaks

In LiveCycle, how do you keep subforms from being split across page breaks?  I'm working an a form in which several subforms can be added or deleted.  If I add enough of any of them, when they get to the bottom of the page, instead of getting a new page the subform splits between the pages.
Here's a basic hierarchy of the form (excluding master pages, content areas etc.)
    MainForm
         PageA
              SubformA
              SubformB
              SubformC
         PageB
              SubformA
              SubformB
              SubformC
         PageC
              SubformA
              SubformB
              SubformC
The subforms that can be added/deleted are SubformA, SubformB, SubformC on each page.
The idea is to have PageA, PageB and PageC always start at the top of the page, and when enough of any of the Subforms are added, the Subform which would be split at the bottom of the page goes to the top of the new next page.   So if I add enough of PageA, SubformA to overflow the page, the last instance of PageA, SubformC goes to the top of a new page, and PageB goes to the top of the following page.

Never mind everybody,  I figured out what I did wrong.
The size of the content area on the master page must be the size of the form minus the space allowed for page headings.
For example, let’s say that you have a form which is 8” wide by 11” long.  On your master page, there is a 1.5” heading which will print on each page across the top of the page.    The content area should be 8” wide by 9.5” long.
I made the mistake of having the content area 8” wide and 11” long, thinking it should be the same as the form size and that the heading on the master page was included in that 11 -inch-length.   Wrong.
When I pressed an add button to add a subform enough times so that the subform would overflow the page, instead of appearing on the top of the next page like I anticipated, the subform appeared to hide underneath the page break and the header of the next page.  That's because the content area wasn't filled yet. It still had another 1.5" to go.  I had to press the add button twice to get a subform to appear on the next page.  In the meantime, the new subforms continued to appear to slide under and hide underneath the page break and next page header.

  • Dynamic table cell editor type

I have a table that the user wants one of two things in a cell.  The cell will either be a check box (allowing for further processing) or text.  What is the best method to place either the textview or checkbox in each cell of the table?

In NW04s, you can use table cell variants to have different editors in the same column.

  • Trying to split a table (so I can format across pages)

Hi, I'm fairly new to a Mac and to using Pages 09 (I picked a great time to change systems when writing up something important!)
How do I get a Table to split (as you can easily with MS Word) so that I can easily format my tables and text across multiple pages? At the moment I either have the title of a cell and then the text linked to it split across two pages - which looks silly - or I have to insert returns into the cell above it so the heading of a cell and it's contents both appear on the next page - but which then also makes the previous cell look silly with so much empty space.
I can find all the options for splitting cells into more rows or columns but not an option to just split a table. Am I missing something or have Apple missed something?

You missed nothing and Apple missed nothing too.
The engineers are free to make the choices which they think beeing the best ones.
It's really easy to achieve your goal.
    Activate the mode "Preview"
The slider which is at the bottom of the window allow us to adjust the table width so that it fits in the page.
In the Table inspector, we may adjust the rows height so that the wanted number of them appear in a single page without the holes generated by empty rows insertion.
Oops, I wrote my response for Numbers, not Pages.
but what I wrote may be done in Pages too.
For the width, we have no slider but we may adjust it thru the Inspector of Measures.
For the number of rows same scheme in Pages and Numbers.
Jean-Marie … was inserted in the table to illustrate a script which may easily remove unwanted rows and, from my point of view, this one was unwanted

  • How is it possible to split the table cells in Pages, Version 5.1

How is it possible to split the table cells in Pages, Version 5.1?

This is a feature removed in the change from Pages 09 to Pages 5.0.1.
If you need this facility, revert to Pages 09.  If you upgraded to 5.0.1, then the earlier version is still in your Applications folder in a folder called iWork.

I am trying to add background colour fill to some cells of a table.  Solid, 100% fill is easy, but when I slide the opacity slider in the colours window and add to a cell, the new colour can be added to the table cell, but only saves as the full 100% colour in the saved document.  I save the Pages document as a Word document.  Thanks for any help.

How does it work if you save the document as the native .pages format? A lot of Pages features doesn't convert well to Word, or vice versa. Don't expect Pages to be a cheap Word substitute.
I can't check out what you are describing as I don't have Word.
Tip: Always save first as .pages, then you can EXPORT to another format. PDF is better format to retain what you have acheived in Pages.
