Can I delete a two SSD Raid 0?

Attempted to setup a RAID 0 using two SSD drives, using Disk Utility.
Then tried to use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone an existing bootable internal drive to the new RAID.
CCC stated that it couldn't do that because one of the drives in RAID had no Recovery Partition.
Now I cannot delete the RAiD setup to go back and reformat the individual drives to include the Recovery partition.
Other than being out of my mind, what am I doing wwrong here?
All this is on a 2012 Mac Pro running Maverick OS.

I don't know if this will help or not, but I did have a problem in attempting to "De-Construct" a RAID array that got broken somehow and I wanted to change the striping from mirrored (RAID 1) to RAID 0. Since this was a LaCie External Little Bisk 250GB SSD, I wrote to them and received a reply (the Disk Utility application cannot "De-Construct" a RAID array once created by that application, but it can be easily accomplished via Terminal using the Command Line:
DE-Construct a LaCie Little Bog Disk RAID Array
From LaCie Technical Support on May 29, 2014
IMPORTANT NOTE: The procedure below involves the use of the Terminal program. This program, if used incorrectly, can cause data loss, or other problems. Ensure everything is typed precisely to avoid data loss.
Ensure an up to date backup exists prior to starting this process. It is important to ensure you do not have any other removable drives attached to the computer other than the one we are working with during this process.
1. Open the program "Terminal". This is within the Utilities folder (MacHD --> Applications --> Utilities)
In the terminal window, type:
diskutil list
then press enter. Ensure this is all lower-case, as everything is case-sensitive within Terminal.
This command will return a list of all the attached drives on the computer by a unique hardware identifier. (e.g. disk1, disk1s1). At this point, you will need to determine the correct identifier for the drive we are working with.
2. If you are having problems getting the volume to dismount in Disk Utility, you can use the following command:
diskutil unmount force (identifier)
This step is not necessary if the volume for the drive we're working with is already unmounted. In that case, proceed to the next step.
3. One of the disk identifier entries may show the overall RAID set that was configured on the drives. If that is present, use the following command to remove this item:
diskutil appleraid delete (identifier)
Again, if the RAID set is not visible in the listing shown in step 1, then proceed to the next step.
4. The following command will completely eradicate any remaining header information on the individual disks. This command would need to be done for each disk in the array:
diskutil zerodisk (identifier)
Please be very careful when running this command. This will fully wipe all data from the target drive(s). This should, however, clear off the inaccurate header indication on the drive that is incorrectly telling Disk Utility the drive is "broken".
This process will start a long zero-out procedure on the drive. If you wish to test the hardware integrity of the drive mechanism, you can let this process complete to 100%. If this completes without errors, then we know the hardware of the drive mechanism is completely healthy. This will take several hours to finish on most systems.
If you do not wish to wait, then you can usually interrupt this process (Control + C will abort this) after a minute or two. The important header information is one of the first things to be erased by this process, so even if interrupted, this command should still correct the problem.
5. After everything is finished, you should be able to exit Terminal, and go back into the Disk Utility Application to re-configure the RAID array on the device.
Hope this is helpful,
Barry

I have duplicate pictures in "my catalog" that I believe come from two Adobe folders found under "my pictures/adobe/ one is Revel and the other is Photoshop express which preceded revel. Can I delete those two folder without causing a problem with my catalog?

    Thanks for the links, Limnos.
If you are willing to continue helping, here's what I found.
Just to clarify the two iTunes folders I am refering to are:
    username-->Music-->iTunes
    HD-->iTunes
I am presuming each location has a full set of files as outlined in the above links?
Not all the files are in both locations. Most are.
    - The Itunes folder in my home folder does not have itunes library.xml.
    - The Itunes folder in my home folder has a subfolder called Mobile Applications (username-->Music-->iTunes--> Mobile application). The Itunes folder at the HD level also has a Mobile Application folder but it is a subfolder of Itunes Media folder (HD-->iTunes--> iTunes Media-->Mobile applications) and has no files in it.
    - I do not have an iTunes Media in the iTunes folder in my home folder.
    - also the Itunes media folder (HD-->iTunes--> iTunes Media) has subfolders by type (books, movies, itunes u, music etc...) but the iTunes Media-->Music also has some of the same subfolders ( iTunes Media-->Music-->books, iTunes Media-->Music-->Movies, iTunes Media-->Music-->iTunes U). Is this normal repetition?
    You say:
    /itunes/itunes media/ music
but it is important to note what comes before all that.
There is nothing as far as I can tell before that first forward slash. Since the only iTunes Media folder I have is in the iTunes folder that resides at the HD level (HD-->iTunes--> iTunes Media folder) not the iTunes folder in my home folder (username-->Music-->iTunes) , I assume that's the one that holds the music.
Keep iTunes media folder organized and Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library are both checked on
Does that give more clarity into my problem?

  • I have 3 toolbar folders in my bookmarks library, can I delete the two I don't use without causing problems?

I recognize the two "unwanted" folders but have no idea how they got in the library. In the past year I have had two major computer crashes. The last one required a complete reformatting of my formerly partitioned hard drive. I think the file restores from my offsite back-up service somehow created the duplicate folders.

What is the title of the other bookmark folder that can not be deleted?

  • Can't delete mistakenly created directories in Network

Somehow a partial address entry (236.96.12) was created as a read-only directory in the Network directory. The other part of the address, 68, appeared as a read-only directory within the first directory.
I have tried both sudo and a root shell to remove the directories. In each case the system responds that both directories are "read-only file system." I attempted using chmod to write enable the user rights, but I get the same response.
How can I delete these two directories?

    Dual 1.42 GHz G4 PowerMac w/2 GB Ram; 1.25 GHz G4 Powerbook w/ 2GB Ram   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

From my standpoint, there are no stupid questions on this one.
The uchg flag is not set.
How can I tell if the directories are locked? (There are no files in either directory.)
When I enter "Single User Mode" (cmd-s) nothing has been mounted so the directories are not there. Any suggestions for what I can do here to track the boot process to discover where the offense occurs? (I am not very experienced in this, so let's go easy.)

  • How to use the noop scheduler on two SSDs in software RAID mode?

    Hi all,
I have two SSDs in RAID0 via motherboard ("fake") raid. They're mapped using dm-raid. The root device is /dev/dm-3
According to: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Solid_State_Drives, you can do `echo noop >/sys/block/sdX/queue/scheduler`, but that doesn't seem to work for me.
    On my system:
    % cat /sys/block/dm-3/queue/scheduler [1]
    none
    % cat /sys/block/sda/queue/scheduler [1]
    noop deadline [cfq]
How would I make this RAID0 partition use the noop scheduler?
Update, setting /dev/sda to use noop worked, but is there a way to apply it to the RAID0 partition only?
    % cat /sys/block/sda/queue/scheduler [1]
    noop deadline [cfq]
    % echo noop | sudo tee /sys/block/sda/queue/scheduler [1]
    noop
    % cat /sys/block/sda/queue/scheduler [0]
    [noop] deadline cfq

Someone needs to come out with an interface to do SATA/SAS Thunderbolt.
One idea, no idea but Barefeats reviewed

Elmar Weiss Photography's blog posted an excellent review comparing the Drobo 5D Thunderbolt with the Pegasus R6 Thunderbolt enclosure.

  • Which HDD partitions can be deleted after migration to SSD (Win8)

    Hi everybody,
I have bought a Intel SSD 525 mSATA for my new T530 and have already installed it succesfully. With the Paragon Hard Disk Manager 12  I have migrated the Windows 8 OS to the new SSD. Everything works fine with the SSD and I want to clean up the partitions on the HDD now.
My problem is that I don´t know which partitions belongs to the preload/receovery and should stay on the drive.
    HDD:
    1. WINRE_DRV -               NTFS (OEM-/ Servicepartition)      1000MB
    2. SYSTEM_DRV -           (OEM-/ Servicepartition)                  260MB
    3. Local Drive -                 unknown                                             128MB
    4. Windows8_OS [D:]  -  NTFS                                                     447,2GB
    5. Lenovo_Recovery -     NTFS (OEM-/ Servicepartition)       17,1GB
Which partitions can be deleted without damaging the preload/recovery function.
Could anybody help me with this question ?
    Thanks a lot

Yes. The SSD is my new boot drive. These two partitions are on the SSD now.
    SDD:
    SYSTEM_DRV -           (OEM-/ Servicepartition)        260MB
    Windows8_OS [C:]-   NTFS                                         111,5GB
The HDD should be my storage Drive. Thats right.
But the preload/recovery partitions remains on the HDD. I have created a USB recovery media according to this instruction (http://support.lenovo.com/de_DE/downloads/detail.page?DocID=HT076024). The recovery partition should be on the USB flash drive now.
I want to remain the recovery partition on HDD to have a second copy, if something happen to the USB flash drive.
    HDD:
    1. WINRE_DRV -               NTFS (OEM-/ Servicepartition)      1000MB
    2. SYSTEM_DRV -           (OEM-/ Servicepartition)                  260MB
    3. Local Drive -                 unknown                                             128MB
    4. Windows8_OS [D:]  -  NTFS                                                     447,2GB
    5. Lenovo_Recovery -     NTFS (OEM-/ Servicepartition)       17,1GB
Is only number 5 the recovery partition or are 1 ,2 ,3 linked to it ?

You can't do this, and you can't transfer purchases between accounts. There is no conflict about using one ID for iTunes, iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match (the ID you've been using for iTunes) and using the other ID for iCloud.

You can't merge accounts or copy content to a different account, so anything that you bought or downloaded via the old account is tied to that account - so any updates that those apps get you will only be able to download via that account. You can change which account is logged in on the iPad via Settings > Store

What do you tell your friends to use to send you email?
Are they going to the same "Incoming Mail Server", logging in with the same "User Name" ? If so, they are two instances of the same account, and one can certainly be deleted with impunity.

If you abandon one of the Apple IDs you will also basically be abandoning any content that you have acquired with that Apple ID. Content can only be updated and re-downloaded with the Apple ID that was used to buy it. Apple will not combine the content of Apple IDs and Apple will not transfer the content from one Apple ID to another Apple ID.

This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.
