Can I flag while composing a Mail message?

In Mail, I've set up a Smart Folder called "Awaiting Response". When I send out a Mail message which I want to track for response, I go into the Sent folder and flag it. The criteria for the "Awaiting Response" are Sent and Flagged.
This would be easier if I could flag the message while I'm composing it (so I wouldn't have to send it and then go into the Sent folder to flag it) but while composing a message I see that Mark/As Flagged is grayed out.
Is there any other way I can flag a message so it goes automatically into this smart folder?
(I tried putting a unique string in the subject line, but then all the replies that keep that subject go into the smart folder as well, and I didn't want that.)
Thanks in advance ...

Roger,
I'm not sure how you would easily accomplish this just using Mail. But I want to make sure you know about MailTags, a wonderful mail add-on that makes this very easy.
When I'm writing a mail I can instantly "tag" it as "action", "waiting" or any other category I want to assign, and with smart folders set up it will go to the right place.
MailTags also allows you do to much more, like attach notes to your received mail, create to dos/calendar events easily...it's really a worthwhile investment at $30.

  • When i paste some copied color text or formatted cells from excel to my mail draft while composing a mail, it is being pasted as plain text. No back groud or text colors are copied to it. Please suggest a possible solution for this issue.

Colors & Formatted Cells from Excel application can not be copied to my mail composer as it is. Only Plain text is copied.

Wish I could be king. But you described the problem perfectly and I am still but a pawn. All I can say is that I trashed the mail preferences (com.apple.mail.plist) on my Mac Mini, and now my MacBook seems to work right.
Sorry. :>) But that is the truth... The MacBook now has actually sometimes displayed pasted text in its actual, different, font and style as I paste it into a partially composed new mail message.
In other (more rational) words, the problem seems to be tied to pasting only certain types of text. I have not been able yet to pinpoint what. Yes, frustrating indeed. The only work-around has been to re-train my fingers to command-option-shift V, for "paste and match style" (like you, I do not want to always use only plain text). Maybe someone else will eventually weigh in with a real solution. The solution I want is just to be able to consistently see any font variations within my message before I send the email.
The info about the different ppi scales between Windows and Mac is interesting, although not relevant to this particular problem. It does explain the apparent overall size differences I have seen before.

  • Having problem deleting all but one particular mail from the iPhone 4S mail inbox. I can delete mail either by the trash can or using edit, selecting the mail message and deleting.  However there is this one mail message that will not go away. Any ideas?

I am having a problem deleting all but one particular mail message from my inbox. I delete by either using the trash can icon for individual mail, or using edit, selecting the mail message (s) and clicking delete.  However there is this one mail message that will not go away regardles of what I do including deleting all from the trash.  Any ideas?

I get that every once in a while on my 3GS, and that's what I do to get rid of it. Probably not a bad idea to power down the phone every so often, anyway, gets rid of any crud waiting to cause a bug.
Glad to hear that it worked for you.

  • Can't Open MS Outlook e-mail messages w/ Blazer on a T/X

My company recently upgraded its Microsoft Exchange Server and now I can't open e-mail messages using Blazer on my T/X.  I now get a message saying, "To use Microsoft Outlook web access, browser settings must allow scripts to run."  I am using Palm Blazer v.4.3.

You can enable or disable JavaScript in Blazer in Option > Preferences > General. If it's already enabled, then it could be that the server is testing for certain functionality that Blazer does not support. Since the browser pre-dated the modern era of rich webmail clients, that wouldn't suprise me...

  • Can no longer change fonts in Mail messages

All of the sudden (within the last couple of days), I find I can no longer change the font - or even the style (bold, italic) of any new mail message. I can change the color, but that's about it. The font stays as whatever the default Message Font is. I did try changing the default to verify it was not a font corruption issue.
I don't think it's a font panel issue since I can change Fonts, Styles, etc. in other apps that use the Font Panel.
    Anyone have any thoughts?
    Thanks up front.

Some more tests .. it's definitely not the app itself .. I booted from my external .. and I launched the Mail app on my main .. and it worked fine (of course, all my accounts, etc weren't there) .. so you're right .. it's either a prefs thing (though not the "com.apple.mail.plist" file since opening a brand new user still has the same problem).. or maybe even a corrupt .pkg file in Receipts .. wait a sec .. replaced the Mail.pkg file just to check .. still nope. So it's gotta be something low level.
At this point, I'm thinking what may be easier on both of us is ... I'm waiting for the Apple Box Set (Leopard/iLife 09/iWork 09) to start shipping before I upgrade .. that should be pretty soon .. so I'll just hand on till then (it's really not all that big a deal I guess in the big picture .. just irritating) .. and see if upgrading corrects the issue .. if not, then I guess I'm off bug hunting again.
Again .. thanks ever so much for your time and effort.
I'll post back here with the results either way.

  • Why can I not retrieve recent Comcast mail messages?

Five days ago my Mail app stopped retrieving new messages from my Comcast mail account. I have deleted the account, rebooted the iphone 4, and set up my mail account again. It will retrieve 50 messages, stopping with a message I received 5 days ago. Oddly, it seems to be picking up mostly email from individuals and not the e-mail I received from businesses, as if the iPhone is filtering out what it thinks is spam. Updates to mail state that it was updated at xx time but it retrieves no new messages. I can continue to send email but I can only see it when I log in through a web browser or Mozilla.
I double checked the port settings against what Comcast published and they match what the iPhone auto-detected. Any suggestions?

I have same problem.  Only with one of my three emails. Two of my emails work fine.  One of my emails on my iPhone 5, with version 6.1.4 software, does the same problem.  I can send emails fine.  but when I try to download receved emails, I only receive emails dated 8-30-13 and before.  None of my recently received emails download to my iPhone 5.  However, the emails work fine on my computer mail client on my Mac.  Is there a glitch in Apple that caused this?  Please help.

  • HT201320 Can't find my sent e-mail messages

    Hello All-
I have my e-mail set up, but, I cannot see my outbox, or drafts, only my inbox.
    Thanks,
    Dee Anna

Scroll down in the Mail app to the Accounts section and tap on the account name.
Note that unless you have an MS Exchange, iCloud or IMAP account you will not see messages sent from your computer, only those you send from the phone. And even for those there will be nothing there until you open the folder, which causes it to sync with the server.

  • How to see actual fonts while composing mail?

This is driving me crazy. I often copy and paste different bits of text from other sources into email messages I compose in Mail. When I paste in the text, it always appears to be in the same font and size as the existing text. Once I send the email, I discover, much to my chagrin, that the pasted text often shows up in a different font or style. This holds true even if I send an email to myself and read it in Mail. If it is just in a slightly different font it only looks a little sloppy, but it is very embarrassing when it is a radically different font or size.
Sometimes the errant font is applied to only fixed-width fonts, and I can fix it for my own display by setting my "fixed width font" and "message font" to the same thing. But this just makes it look better for me -- anyone else is still seeing the different fonts. And sometimes it happens with formatted text (i.e, pasting a line from a webpage where the text looks fine in the composed mail but shows as huge and bold when the mail is received).
I have my "composing - message format" preferences set to Rich Text, because I want to be able to send rich text messages. I have tried to train myself to use the "paste and match style" command, but I am so used to "command - v" that it is hard to remember to use "shift-option-command - v" every time.
If I change a font intentionally, using the format fonts palette, the different font is immediately visible in the compose window.
This happens on both my Macbook, not on my and my Mac Mini; they are each running Mail 3.6 and OS X 10.5.8
Any ideas? It is very frustrating.

  • HT1349 The mail message content is not visible! I can't see the mail content.

Can't see the content of mail messages.

Try a reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
    Or...
Double tap the home button to bring up the Recents List
Tap and hold any icon until it wiggles
Press the red to delete the Mail app
Press the home twice button when done.

  • Time Machine not backing up flags or highlights from Mail

I use numerous flags and highlighted colours all through Mail.   However, Time Machine does not record the flags or highlights at all - ever.  This has been an issue for me with 10.7.1, .2 and now .3.
On top of this, Mail randomly wipes clear all the colours that I have chosen for emails.   Yesterday I lost every highlighted colour from 1st Jan through to now.  I can't fix the problem when it happens because Time Machine isn't recording them to start with.  I basically lose all that referencing and sorting that I've done.
Apple isn't sure if it is a Lion issue or something wrong with my Macbook Air.   Would someone mind checking if they can see flags and highlights in Mail through Time Machine?
I didn't have any problem with Mail until I went to Lion
    Thanks.

Since it's a new disk, everything you put on it will be backed-up on the next backup.
Most likely, Time Machine will have to delete a large number of old backups to make room for that. And it's a slow process anyway: it has to mount the sparse bundle the backups are in, delete the oldest one, dismount the bundle, compact it, then mount it again to see if it's made enough room. This can obviously take a looooong time, especially via WIFI.
Worse, if the TC's hard disk isn't at least 220% of the size of the data it's backing-up, after all those deletions, the process will fail (since Time Machine won't delete the last remaining backup, and it needs an extra 20% temporarily for workspace).
To confirm what's going on, Click here to download the +Time Machine Buddy+ widget. It shows the messages from your logs for one TM backup run at a time, in a small window. All that will be documented in excruciating detail.
    So you have two choices:
If the TC's disk is more than 220% the size of the data it's backing-up, you can speed the process up a bit, by cancelling the backup (that may take several minutes if it's in the middle of something), then deleting several old backups manually, then compacting the sparse bundle, per #12 in the Frequently Asked Questions *User Tip,* also at the top of this forum.
Delete the sparse bundle, or if there's nothing else on the TC's internal HD, erase it via +*Airport Utility.+* Select +*Base Station > Manual Set-Up+* from the Menubar, then Disks in the tool Bar, then Erase. Then let Time Machine start fresh.
In either case, connect to the Time Capsule via Ethernet cable if at all possible. It will still be slow, but much faster than WIFI.

  • Getting returned mail messages for emails I did not send

I've recently started getting returned mail messages for emails I did not send. Why is this happening and how can I stop it?

    cadillacjoe69 wrote:
That might be tough to do. Is there a rule I can use to help. The mail messages are so varied.
I'd look at the headers (View -> Message -> Long Headers) to see if there's anything in common, then try to create a rule based on that.
By the way, welcome to Apple's discussion groups.

  • Orphaned mail messages following upgrade - how to reclaim them?

I've recently upgraded my G5 iMac to 10.5 from 10.4. The upgrade did not go smoothly. I made a bootable clone of my disk to an external HD, but this would not boot correctly (it started up but I could not log in), and so I ended up doing an erase and install, and then migrating everything from my laptop rather than from the external HD. I'm now moving across what I need piece by piece from the external HD.
With Mail I have a ~/Library/Mail folder on my upgraded iMac which works fine, but I also have an "orphaned" ~/Library/Mail folder on my external HD, with lots of useful email messages in it.
Question: How can I move all the old mail messages from the orphaned folder into the live folder, so that Mail.app recognises them and I can work with them?
This must have happened to others. Any input most welcome.
    Regards
    Graham

  • IPhone 5 won't push Yahoo Mail messages

Hi everyone!  I do love the iPhone 5 but I've experienced a problem for about a week now.  The problem is that the phone won't push new e-mails instantly.  The funny thing is, it will push data on one Yahoo account, but not the other.  (I do have two accounts set up.)  I noticed that the account that isn't working was set as the default address, which is what I prefer, but I did just switch it to see if that does any good.  I doubt it will.
I can get my new yahoo e-mail messages by manually refreshing or pulling down to refresh.  It's not that they aren't coming in at all, it's just that I'm not getting them instantly and that can be frustrating at times.  I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling.  I'm just using the standard mail app for iPhone, not using the Y Mail app.  All software is up to date and I am running iOS 6.0.2

first of all, the iphone doesn't do the pushing. Yahoo's mail service in conjunction with apple's push notification server does the job, the iphone receives them.
so the problem may be with the abover 2 services. contact them.
