Can I store ResultSet in Session

My resultset contains 2000 records, Is it safe to put the ResultSet in session.
Now for 1 user the server contains 2000 records in session, and for 10 users the server will
contain 20000 records in session, and so on... This is causing a heavy time delay.
What can I do now, can I use HashMap to store 2000 records and put the HashMap in session, Is it advisable.....
Anyone pls help me,....
Thanks in advance,
viswa

Actually I am getting the ResultSet from Database,
passing it to a Bean, and storing there as ResultSet with session scope.
Since i am storing 2000 records, the server is becoming slower as many user logs in.
What I want is can I store the ResultSet in HashMap inside a Bean with Session scope.
By doing this can I solve my performance problems.
Thanks in advance,
viswa

  • Can we store result set in session..??

    can we store result set object in session..??if yes ,,say i close the connection and use that result set object in some another page,,what happen if u call updateRow(),deleteRow() or insertRow()

    You can store a result set object in session.
    However you also have to keep that result sets connection open and dedicated to that result set.
    In that scenario you will have a 1 db connection per session. Not very nice. And NOT recommended.
    Once you close a ResultSet's connection then you shouldn't access the ResultSet. Simple as that.

    Practically Yes u can
    but u want be able to accesses it in other pages
    u can try it and see
    the other thing u can do is store the values from the resultset in a object say vector and put vector in seesion and u can use this any where
    for e.g
    Vector v=new Vector();
    While(rs.next())
    v.addElement(rs.getString(1));
    v.addElement(rs.getString(2));
    session.putValue("myVector",v);
    now where u want to get it do this
    Vector myvec=(Vector)session.getValue("myVector");
    do do futher

  • Problem with store ResultSet and show result in table

    Hi, I'm kind of new in ADF, I need to store ResultSet and show result in table-component. I have two problems:
    1) I get my ResultSet by calling callStoredProcedure(...) and this returns actually ref_cursor as ResultSet.
    When I try to println() contains of this result set in this method - it works OK (commented part),
    but when I want to println() somewhere else (eg. in retrieveRefCursor() method) it doesn't work.
    The problem is that the scrollability of the ResultSet is lost - it becomes a TYPE_FORWARD_ONLY ResultSet.
    Is there any way to store data from ref_cursor for a long time?
    2) My second problem is "store any result set and show this data in table". I have tried use method storeNewResultSet() but
    without result (table contains only "No rows yet" and everything seems to be OK - no exception, no warning, no error...).
    I have tried to call this method with ResultSet from select on dbs (without resultSet as ref_cursor ) - no result with createRowFromResultSet(),
    storeNewResultSet(), setUserDataForCollection()...
    I've tried a lot of ways to do this, but it doesn't work. I really don't know how to make it so it can work.
    Thanks for your help.

  • How can I use active user session that's in an application scope Hashtable?

    First of all, is it possible to use the same session after a user exits and then returns?
    Second, if it is possible, then please tell me what I need to do. So far, this is what I have been doing...
    1.) The user submits login credentials
    2.) The user is authenticated.
    3.) The user does not have an existing session, so a new one is created.
    4.) The user closes the browser.
    5.) The user returns to login page and submits login credentials.
    6.) The user is authenticated.
    7.) The user has an existing session, so it should be used.
    This is where I'm having trouble. All active sessions for my application are stored in a Hashtable. I have been using <%@ page session="false" %> so that a new session is not automatically created. Each time before I create a new session, I check my Hashtable to see if that user has an existing session. If a session exists for that user, then I would like to continue using that session if possible. I have used the methods request.getSession() and request.getSession(false), but a new session is always returned.
    I could create a new session, copy the attributes from the old session(which is stored in my Hashtable) to the new session, and then invalidate the old session, but I'd rather not do that.
    Is there a way that I can use existing sessions that I have stored in my Hashtable?

    First of all, is it possible to use the same session after a user exits and then returns?No, I don't think so. Let me explain why. When the server creates a session object for each client, it needs to know which client is making the request. Remember that HTTP is a stateless protocol. Every time a client makes a request, it sends some sort of session id to the server to let the server know who is trying to make the request. The server will then check to see if a session object exists for that particular client and if so, it will make sure that the max inactive interval (maximum time alloted for that client's session) has not been exceeded. If every thing is okay, then the client can access the session object to get values that were previously placed there. There are many ways that servers try to keep track of clients. One way is to have the clients write the session ID using cookies. But, many people like disallow cookies. So some servers do what is known as URL rewriting. That is, they will write the session ID on the end of the query string. This can also be accomplished programmatically, but it can be taxing to do. Anways, the point is that the client and the server have to have some sort of link between each other and that link is the session ID. So, if the browser is closed, the session ID is lost. That particular client will be forced to get a new session ID the next time the following code is executed:
    //create a session object and set its values
    HttpSession session = request.getSession(true);>
    Second, if it is possible, then please tell me what I
    need to do. So far, this is what I have been doing...
    1.) The user submits login credentials
    2.) The user is authenticated.
    3.) The user does not have an existing session, so a
    new one is created.
    4.) The user closes the browser.
    5.) The user returns to login page and submits login
    credentials.
    6.) The user is authenticated.
    7.) The user has an existing session, so it should
    be used.If you really want to do something like this, you could make up your own ID and store it as a cookie on the client. I've never tried anything like this before so you would have to do your own research. Are you sure you want to do something like this. There is a reason why it works the way it does. There is also a reason why you want to keep the session timeout value some what small. Let me give you an example of some craziness with sessions. A client we once had wanted to keep their sessions open for 4 hours because they said there clients simply did not like to log in all the time. I nearly gasped when I was told we needed to do this. When you make the session time out large (i.e. the maxInactiveInterval( )), then session objects stick around longer in the server. Let's say a client logs into the server and receives a session object. Then, the client makes a few requests. The server knows to keep the session alive as long as the time between requests has not exceeded 4 hours. Then the client closes the browser. How is the server suppose to know that the browser was closed. Well, it doesn't. It just knows to check times between requests. So, that particular session object won't be garbage collected until the session times out. What if a whole bunch of clients did this. Yucko. The server would have a whole bunch of session objects living in memory. What a waste. This is all above and beyond the typical security problems that can arise from having a session open for so long. To make a long story short, you really shouldn't do what you are trying to do unless it is the nature of the app.

  • Can I restore a previous session?

    I had a huge session that had been there for quite a few days. I was doing some important work and had to refer to websites opened on it daily. Today when I came home I noticed that my computer had restarted. When I opened firefox to restore the session and begin work again, it opened to my home page. I don't know who sat on my computer when I was gone and how many times was it used during this time. Is there anyway to recover that previous session that I had?

    If the session has been overwritten by someone else working at this computer,I don't think you can now recover that session,although you can still search in the history for the websites that were opened before the restart,which can be done from the Firefox button-->History-->Recently Closed Tabs (and/or Recently Closed Windows) or from the search box in the Library (Ctrl+shift+H) .
    However,before doing this,you could try to restore the session (just in case someone did not overwrite your previous session,but just chose to open the home page instead) from the History menu-->Restore Previous Session or directly from the home page (if it is on the default setting of about:home you should have a "restore previous session" button on the right) or by typing '''about:sessionrestore''' in the URL bar.
    In the future,if you need to constantly save an huge session,this extension [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/session-manager/?src=search Session Manager] does exactly this job and can store/reload multiple sessions.

  • Is is possible to hold resultset in session

    Hi All,
    Is is possible to hold resultset in session. I'm having a client GUI, which request the servlet and the servlet inturn queries the db. The resultset i'm getting in the servlet can be used for some more requests from the client. So i would like to have that resultset in session so that i can avoid getting it from db everytime. Can anyone tell me whether it is possible to hold the resultset in session??

    If you absolutely have to do this thing this way (sorry, but it sounds pretty poorly planned to me), you could download the ResultSet values to some "client-side object". For example in the servlet use a Vector of Vectors to hold the results in the returned result set:
    Vector row = null;
    Vector rows = new Vector();
    ResultSet rs = ...;
    int numColsInRS = rs.getMetaData().getColumnCount();
    while (rs.next())
        row = new Vector();
        for (int i = 1; i <= numColsInRS; i++)
            row.add( rs.getObject(i).toString() );
        rows.add( row );
    rs.close();
    rs = null;
    ...

  • How can I store a single instance of a hashtable

    How can I store a single instance of a hashtable in a predefined application object that way I can use it by all sessions? I've tried storing a instance of hashtable in the session but it only allows for one user and it doesn't accomplish my goal in the web application. Could show me how i could store a single instance of a hashtable in a predefined application object? Or at least a link which demonstrates it
    thanks

    assuming ctx is an instance of javax.servlet.ServletContext (which can be retrieved from the ServletConfig).
    ctx.setAttribute("yourAttrName", new Hashtable());

  • Portal Database -- What it is? Can we store data in Portal itself?

    Hi Experts,
    Can you please let me know what is portal database?
    Can I store some information like Emp No and Tel No in Portal itself?
    Regards,
    Gaurav

    Hi Gaurav,
    1.Portal Database holds the portal related data like iviews,worksets,pages, roles etc.
    Refer to [How the Portal Works|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/42/BFA145731B1D64E10000000A1553F6/content.htm]
    2. Emp No and Tel No are generally for the users, so it depends on how you configure your UME.

  • How can i store data in term of a tree structure

    how can i store data in term of a tree structure

    What a tree is the question. If you just want a fast access, ehats about Hashtable or dictionary classes ? The data there is structured in a tree. For a simple binary tree, you can use something like
    class Node {
    Node(Object data){
       Node left;
       Node right;
       Object data = data;
    void insert(Object data, Node parent){
      int test = data.compareTo(parent.data);
      if(test < 0 ){
        if(parent.left == null){
          parent.left = new Node(data);
        else{
          insert(data, parent.left);
      else{
        if(parent.right == null){
          parent.right = new Node(data);
        else{
          insert(data,parent.right);
    }And so build up a binary tree. The traversing methods can be found in almost any good book (pre-order, post-order, in-order), for search you have just to look at greater/smaller and descend in the tree.
    The Object data can be changed to what you want for storage, String, or primitive Numbers, Vectors ...
    Is that what you search for?

  • Can i store my music on my device without using my data in my phone plan streaming from the cloud? How do i put what I want on there without waiting for each song to download from the cloud one at a time?

    How can I store the music I listen to on my iphone without streaming it from the cloud and using all my data on my phone plans?  How do I dump it on my phone all at once in itunes rather than waiting for each song to download individually from the cloud?

    What??  You asked how to get all your music on your phone at once rather than downloading it to your phone from iCloud.
    Go to your purchased list in iTunes and download all your music to your iTunes library, as explained in the linked article.  Then sync it all to your phone using iTunes you're done.  The music will be stored locally on your phone and you won't have to download it again in the future.

  • How can I store my iTunes library on an NAS (Fritz Box)?

    How can I store my iTunes library on an NAS (Fritz Box)?

    1. Drag the library to the external drive, launch iTunes with the Option key held down, click on Choose Library, and point it there.
    2. Get a second. Having the backups on the same drive as the original data won't help when that drive fails.

  • Can I store an iPhoto library on Time Capsule?

    I would like to store my iPhoto library externally. Can I store it on my Time Capsule or do I need an additional, external hard drive?

    I would like to store my iPhoto library externally. Can I store it on my Time Capsule
    Please do NOT do this.
    Access to the library will be very slow, even more so if you are using wireless. More importantly, there is a real danger that any break in communication between iPhoto and the iPhoto library will create a corruption issue that will likely affect the entire library, rendering it useless. Confirm with the experts in the iPhoto support area about this to verify.
    iPhoto
    In addition, if you move the iPhoto library to the Time Capsule......have you thought about how you will back up the iPhoto library that is on the Time Capsule? Obviously, you will still need another hard drive to backup the "original" iPhoto library on the Time Capsule.
    A much better plan would be to connect a USB or FireWire drive directly to your Mac.....and move the iPhoto library to that hard drive. Access to the library will be fast....just as if the library was on your Mac's hard drive.
    Then.....Time Machine can be set up to back up both your Mac and the hard drive to the Time Capsule.  That would be a minimum backup plan. Many of us who value our images make additional copies of the library on yet another hard drive on a regular basis.
