Can not disconnect fron VPN in Windows 8.1
I just bought a new PC with a very fresh system Windows 8.1. On the very first day, I needed to connect to my company through VPN. So I set up a connection, connected without any problem, then wanted to disconnect. But there is just NO WAY to disconnect
from the "networks connections" blue panel! Clicking on the VPN connection in the list of networks offers just one single option - to connect. But I already was connected !!! Finally managed to find an option to disconnect in properties of the connection...
But this is CRAZY !!!
With this new Win 8 design being such a misshap, I just hoped it would at least function well... But right at the start, I run into such a stupid bug, which as I quickly found was discussed in a number of places including this site for more than a year!!!
Hello Soriso,
If my understanding is right, you can normally connect to the VPN, and then when you try to disconnect , there is only connect option in "networks connections" blue panel.
Please share us a screenshot to avoid misunderstanding if you willing to.
If there are connect option, it seems like this connection is not connected. Please check if we can connect and then disconnect.
Best regards,

Hello .. I've been subscribed for ic;oud for 20$ per year and I found it useless for many reasons: that I can not disconnect my mobile while the uploading process and it takes long time for uploading my data .. Its not a reliable system that's why I need to deactivate the space service and take my money back .. Thanks
The "issues" you've raised are nothing to do with the iCloud service.
No service that uploads data allows you to disconnect the device you are uploading from while uploading data. Doing so would prevent the upload from completing. It is a basic requirement for any uploading service that you remain connected to it for uploading to be possible.
The time it takes to upload data to iCloud is entirely dependent on how fast your Internet connection is, and how much data you are uploading. Both of these things are completely out of Apple's control. Whichever upload service you use will be affected by the speed of your Internet connection. -
Can not open new blank tab window from file, new tab.In Tools/Options/Tabs I have ticked open new window in new tab?
The Ask Toolbar is probably causing that in the Firefox 3.6.13 version. Disable that extension or un-install it.

W530 Can not see SSD (Bios or Windows Installation)
Hi all,
I have been workign on this for a bit now and can't see mto get it figured out. I referenced past threads on this forum for help, but so far no luck.
Basically I am tryign to install a new Samsung SSD into a W530, however, I can not get the Bios or Windows instalation to see it (when you select what driev you want to install windows on).
I can externally attach the SSD to my other laptop and see the drive. I can create partitions, format them, etc. But none of that helped my original issue.
I have also updated to the latest BIOS version, tried turning off UEFI, no luck.
Any ideas on what I am missign here to get this SSD to show up?
Thanks,
Jeryn
Solved!
Go to Solution. Are you replacing the spinner in your W530 with the SSD? Main drive bay?
The side rails from the old spinner must be removed from the old drive and attached to the sides of the SSD, before putting it into the bay. However as is shown in the user manual, they actually must be attached "upside down" (or maybe inside out as well?? I forget now) for the SSD from the orientation that they had with the spinner. I assume this is because of a slight height difference in the two drives as far as where the rear electrical connector on the drive mates with the correnspinding connector inside the bay.
The reversal of the side rails will raise (or lower?) the SSD drive, so that its electrical connector meets the drive bay electrical connector properly. Now when you push in the SSD drive all the way, you're really making true electrical contact and presumably the SSD will now be seen.
With the side rails attached incorrectly, when you push the SSD all the way in, the drive electrical connector is completely missing the drive bay connector, and there is zero electrical contact. It's just sitting in the drive bay physcially.
I made this same mistake myself when installing my Samsung 840 Pro SSD to replace the factory 500GB spinner in my own W530. Played with this for an hour, before finally interpreting the picture from the user manual as an indication there were two different orientations of the side rails that were actually different, for spinner vs. SSD, and exactly what that meant in terms of attaching the rails to the drive before inserting it into the main bay. -
Can not refresh contents of finder windows
I can not get my finder windows to refresh their contents. My picture folder is the one that really bothers me. When I am trying to upload pictures to the internet, the picture folder is never accurate. I have tried the refresh finder apple script, restarting the computer, opening and closing the window, nothing seems to work.
The content is there, when I search for a specific picture file it is there, but it is not located in the right subfolder. I download and manage my pictures on kodak easyshare.Hi there,
The content is there, when I search for a specific picture file it is there, but it is not located in the right subfolder.
Hmmm, are you saying something is moving them? Or the Finder isn't opening them to the right folder?
Have you tried this one...
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/10958253
Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), & use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, reboot once more.
Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions...
Move this file to the desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
reboot when it completes. -
Can not find virtual copies in Windows folder.
I can not remember to have encountered this before, so here I go: I just created a virtual copy of some photos from my summer holiday, and all works well. But when I needed to access these photos going the Windows' way (Windows/My Pictures that is), the virtual copies do not appear in my YYYYMM folder. Going back to LR though, they will appear there with a /Copy 1 extension. RIghtclicking the VC, then "Show in Explorer" will highlight the original in the folder, the VC still not being there. Part of the frustration is that I can not remember this happening before (or maybe it has), so I'm wondering if I by accident have changed any settings.
Running LR 4.1 on Windows 7 64-bit.
Thanks in advance.Andrew Rodney wrote:

My only point, was an observation that there is very little actual practical difference between a virtual copy and a "master" ANYWAY.
So you have 1 master (an actual raw) and 10 VC’s. What happens to the VC’s if the master gets corrupted?
If your master has say Adobe Standard as the DNG Profile but the VC has a custom DNG profile, what happens to the VC if that profie goes missing or gets corrupted? Try it.
If by "master", you mean the Raw file on disk, then if that is corrupted (something I have never yet experienced IIRC; although I still backup against this possibility) then certainly, all images derived from that will suffer. However adding VCs does not increase the absolute risk of that. The way I was using "master", was to refer to the one LR metadata set which, unlike a VC metadata set, currently asserts a functional link to the source file. If that LR metadata set were to get corrupted, (something I have never yet experienced either IIRC, although I still backup against that possibility too) then I might be glad of a VC which I could immediately promote to that role and status instead.
Certainly bad things may happen to a VC if a required external file is lost or changed - but these are exactly the same bad things, as if the exact same events had happened for the "master" version alongside. I do take the point that there is protection in redundancy - no question - and also that instantly written-out metadata is a useful separate backup of one's work (as I mentioned, I'd be glad if VCs could get the same thing too somehow, someday).
One-to-many dependency on a single source file can make some good things happen too, though, which may be judged worth any potential added risks. Say deliberate changes are newly made to a Photoshop edit on which several LR image versions are based. These updates will ripple through all virtual versions automatically; whereas if these versions had instead been fully independent, the same changes would need to be made repeatedly to get the same result; assuming one wants all these versions to reflect the changes; which is (should be; needs to be) the realistic expectation, when one has opted to use a cluster of VCs in the first place. -

Can not reboot into OSX from Windows using Bootcamp assistant
I'm having a bit of a problem with rebooting into OSX from Windows on bootcamp. Clicking on the icon in the system tray produces a message that Windows can not find the OSX disk. Trying to open the Bootcamp preferences also generates an error. I have no problem getting back into OSX if I shut down Windows and restart the MacPro while holding down the option key. This is with a Windows 7 install on Bootcamp, but I had the same issue with a previous install of Win XP. I nuked and paved OSX and the WIndows disk between installs so my current problem is not carry over from the XP install.
My bad I should have been more clear. The problem is actually with a XP install via bootcamp, my Win 7 install is in VM Ware Fusion.
The XP install is on a second drive. Since you asked about this I'm assuming it may be the reason Im having problems.
The error is I get when trying to access bootcamp via the Windows control panel or by right clicking the sys tray icon is - "An error occured while trying to access the start up disk settings. You may not have privileges ...blah, blah, blah. I only created one account and I have enough privliges to change admin stuff in windows so I cant see privliges being the issue. I reassigned the OSX partition a new drive letter and rebooted windows but this didn't help.
The only drivers I installed, other then updating the video driver, are the bootcamp drivers

Can not remove older version on windows 7 PC?
How do I remove an older version of iTunes on my windows 7 PC? I can not install iTunes unless I do this? Thanx, Dan.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

Can not install device driver in Windows 8.1
I can not install driver of my webcam(Odyssey OD 202) windows 8.1 (upgraded from windows 8)
The USB webcam is shown in Device manager.
When I attempt to update driver and search for it automatically it shows the following message.Hi Atanu Barai,
There may be a compatibility issue between the Microsoft driver and the device . I agree with ZigZag ,you may need to download the driver from the manufacturer website .Please pay attention to the compatibility ability issue with the
Windows 8.1 when you try to download the driver.
If the issue persists, try to plug in the device with another USB port to have a check .To verify whether it is caused by the USB controller ,we can try to connect another USB device to have a check.
Meanwhile ,please check the Event Viewer for related information.

Can not upload anything when Finder window pops up on Mavericks
Running Mavericks here and just can not upload anything anymore on Facebook for example, it also happens on other webpages too where the finder window pops up to select a file to upload. I finally found this article which helped but when I completely quit Firefox i continue to get the error. I then go back in, double-click to toggle from false to true again, quit Firefox and the problem goes away again. I do not understand anything further to this problem and do not want to continue to repeat this process every time I quite Firefox. Any suggestions or other help?

IPod shuffle 2nd Gen....Can not see in iTunes or Windows
Bought two iPods, one a Nano works fine the other a shuffle does not.
I can not see it in either iTunes or Windows,it does appear to be charging via the USB Port (Lights Blinking etc) but nothing else.
As I can not see it in iTunes I can not reformat or do any of the other fixes sugested by Apple.
Now silly me I bought the items secondhand but unused so cant take this back to shop!
Help,its really teeing me off!
Thanks!Bought two iPods, one a Nano works fine the other a

I hope you're not connecting them to your computer
simultaneously ... if so, connect one at a time.
No connecting one at a time.
I can not see it in either iTunes or Windows,it
does
appear to be charging via the USB Port (Lights
Blinking etc) but nothing else.
WHICH lights are blinking? The only normally
blinking light should be orange...showing that it's
in data mode AND that Windows recognizes it
(assuming, again, that you haven't connected both
iPods at the same time).
It should show up in the system tray...
Orange light flashes, does not appear in systems tray or in My Computer.
As I can not see it in iTunes I can not reformat
or
do any of the other fixes sugested by Apple.

Answer the questions I posed, then we'll move on...

Adobe reader9 was installed monday, but now I can not read pdf files in windows mail
I have windows vista. last saturday a popup asked if I wanted to install Adobe9. I clicked OK but later the install failed. talked with adobe support on monday and they installed adobe9 on my pc. however, when emails are sent to me with an attachment that is a PDF file, I can not open the attachment...it loads Acrobat.com instead.
I think there is a incompatiblity between mail and this new adobe.
l tried to reload adobe 8.2 but the install fails because it say I have a higher version (9).
any help would be greatly appreciated since these attachments are info for my home business.
thank you, larrythank you for your response.
this procedure does work and I appreciate your help. I just wish that the
PDF file could be opened in mail like it did before the new version was
loaded. but in the mean time I have your work around.
I plan on re-contacting adobe and see if they can un-install 9 and then I
can install 8.2.
regards, Larry
