Can not get past grey apple logo and spinning spokes ?

I've tried holding down keys (command-s,option,c ...etc) but it just stays on the spinning and there are no sounds ie chimes.
I've tried booting into osx disk holding the c key and it takes a little longer for the apple logo and spinning wheel to come up but eventually it goes right back into the spinning and I've waited out the spinning for ten to fifteen minutes with no luck.
The harddrive looks healthy when plugged in externally to my Win7 machine, I've tried moving the memory sticks around with no luck.
I'm trying to fix this for a friend , there are two actual keys missing the f5 and the #6 key (broke off I guess).

Thanks for replying , I'm pretty sure my friend does not have the hardware test disc that came with his macbook pro 06 anymore but I'll ask.
Yes.
Is there anything else I could do to solidify that the logic board is toast ?
If no AHT, make an appt with the "genius" bar at an Apple Store.
I would think that I wouldn't get anything (black screen) if it was the logic board.
The LB basically "controls" everything, so depending on what circuits have issues, a bad LB could account for (almost?) any symptom.
RAM is also a suspect here. It sounds like you did some troubleshooting, but if both modules are third-party (not the original Apple-supplied) RAM, see if the original RAM can be found and tried.

  • My 4th Gen Ipod touch will not get past the apple logo

My 4th Gen Ipod touch will not get past the apple logo (unless the battery is dead, Then it tell me to charge it).  Once it gave me the connect to itunes screen.  I clicked restore in itunes but the ipod went back to the apple logo before the update download finished. I tried calling apple but my over the phone technical support just expired. PLEASE HELP!

This can be a corrupted software/firmware on your iPod touch. If the recovery mode you did was not forced, then try to force it into recovery mode. This is how:
    1. Force it to shut down (note: this sort of shut down should not be preformed unless you are in a situation like this because it is a hardware shutdown and will not attempt to unload software, save unsaved files, safely stop system processes, etc.) to do this, hold down the power/sleep button and home button for about 7 or 10 secs. Also I might be incorrect but I heard that you can just hold down the sleep and home button until the screen goes blank and then immediately let go.
    2. Have iTunes running. Hold down the home button and plug the USB cable that came with your iPod into it. Keep on holding on the home button until a picture of a USB cable going into the iTunes logo appears. You are now in a forced recovery mode. (In case your not so tech-savvy forced recovery is the same as a normal recovery mode that an iPod might do if it knows an update or restore failed.)
    3. iTunes should have shown a pop-up message about it found a iPod in recovery mode. Click OK, click your iPod from the sidebar and click restore. The iPod will show the apple logo for a while and iTunes will say "preparing iPod for restore" and then "waiting for iPod" this was the longest part of updates for me.
    4. iPod will reboot when restore is completed. When I update my iPod it one time showed the apple logo for one whole sync until it showed the slide to unlock screen, so do not worry. P.S if that does not work do a DFU mode restore ( I've been told DFU mode stands for device firmware update mode) I'm running out of room, so google it. Hope this helped ;)

I can not get past the license agreement and term and conditions page after updating my i5 IOS

Restart your phone and if that doesn't help, reboot the device.
Restart the iPhone by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reboot the iPhone by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the phone start up.

  • Macbook starts up with chime  then white screen with grey apple logo and spinning gear appears and continues to spin

Help,  Turned on MacBook Pro this morning and just get a white screen with grey apple logo and spinning gear.  Cannot access desktop.

Computer starts up in Safe boot by holding down the shift button.   But when I go to restart the same thing happens.  What should I do?

  • G5 wont boot past grey Apple screen and spinning cirlce

I cam in to work this morning and found my Mac on with fans blazing the the display just showing the grey Apple screen and spinning circle. I have it set to turn on before I arrive at work and it has been doing so flawlessly for all the years I've had it. When I shut down last night everything was working fine. Now this.
I've scanned some help forums but can't quite determine what the cause might be. Old battery on the memory card, a bad memory chip, ...I'm not sure.
As I said, things had been working flawlessly for years.
I've tried unplugging and re-plugging in the power cord (nope), resetting the PRAM (didn't work), Pressing the PRAM button on the memory board (again no), resetting things from Open Firmware (Using these commands: reset-nvram, set-defaults, reset-all -- no luck)and now have Disk Utility repairing permissions from the install DVD. That doesn't seem to be doing anything, it has been "Determining correct file permissions" from my startup disk for about 20 mintues now...usually it goes a lot quicker.
Any thoughts? This is my primary work machine and if I can't get it running I'm dead in the water. I'm accessing these forums from a PC in the office and would rather not have to, hahah.
    Thanks.
(also, when running permission repair, do you repair the volume or the primary disk? I'm repairing the named sub-volume of the hard drive.)

(also, when running permission repair, do you repair the volume or the primary disk? I'm repairing the named sub-volume of the hard drive.)
I repair the hard drive that contains the Startup volume, unless multiple partitions are present.
In that case, only the startup volume.
Rather than "repair permissions", "Repair Disk" is what you should run on the startup volume.

  • TS2570 tried restart and hold c key, but still only getting white screen with grey apple logo and spinning loading icon, what do I do next?

nephew had mutliple tabs open and shut down the iMac by hitting the button on the back instead of closing everything corectly.  Now the only screen i get is the white with apple logo and the loading circle icon.  i have attempted restart and c key with disk in but cant even get a menu to come up.  What can I attempt from home before having to haul this into the store?

wireless keyboard and mouse were working prior to safe mode attempt, i was able to eject disk.  still waiting on the safe mode restart.  I'm not sure what I should be looking for to confirm safe mode and what the screen should look like if successfully processing.  it seems to be putting off a lot of heat.  BRB

What's the story on the RAM? Dual Channel?  Please provide specific specs, timings, recommended voltage, etc. With an i7 950, presuming this is an Xpower Big Bang & not an 1156 socket variety.

Hello I have a MacBook that will not reboot. It gets to the gray screen with the apple logo and the spinning gear and that's it. I have tried restarting the PRAM, performing safe boot, and verbose method. What can I do to get my Mac back? please help

Try holding the power button for about 10 seconds and try powering it on again. If all else fails, bring it in for servicing.

  • My Ipod touch screen will not come  up unless I conect it to the computer. It never gets past the apple logo and never fully retores? My screen is crackd a little at the bottom. Is this a screen or software problem?

My ipod touch 4will not respond unless  I hook it up to the computer. It never goes pasthe logo apple screen. It never restores fully. Cant tell if this is a screen or software problem.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

All of a sudden I can't boot up my Mac. The power light comes on, the grey apple screen comes up and the widget starts spinning... and that's it. Tried 'safe boot'- also no luck. Suggestions appreciated.

Can you boot using the Tiger installer DVD or the discs that came with your Mac? Do you have DiskWarrior that you can boot?

  • Can't get past the Apple Logo when starting my MBP

    Hi,
I recently tried to install a new programm on my macbookpro with mac os x. The installation was successful, but the computer restarted afterwards, and hasn't been able to turn back on since. I always hear the startup sound and see the apple logo with the little circle that rotates, but then nothing else happens. I have tried to use the "c" button to set it up again, but it doesnt work.
Does anybody have any ideas how I could fix it?
    thanks a lot
    raphael

Raphael, what kind of installation, an Archive and Install, an Erase and Install or was it the usual Upgrade (without Options)?
Try starting in the Single users mode (S key down) or a Safe Boot (Shift key down) and see if either works.

  • I tried to master reset my I pod touch, now all I have is a apple skull with a flame on its head I am trying to sync and I can not get past the apple with a flame

I bought my daughter an I pod touch 3 gen. I tried to do a master reset so I could sync it with my Itunes account. After resetting, all that is showing is an apple that looks like a skull with a flame on top. Does anyone know what I am supposed to do so I can sync it?

Master reset...? Your device was jailbroken prior to you purchasing the device. The only symbol you should see on reboot is an Apple symbol. Download redsnow... google it! Download the latest version and your IPSW (ipod restore firmware) it has to be the correct version. And the "just boot tethered" should fix your device.
But that's only if you didnt back the device up. If you don't care about any of the data on the ipod then you can simply open itunes navigate to the device and click the restore button. This will restore the ipod firmware and install a fresh copy. Good luck let me know if you have any problems.
