• Where is Oracle Lite DB installed? In Soa Suite inst. dir? Service needed?

As far as I know Soa Suite can use a separate "full" Oracle (Express) DB.
However user can omit this separate DB and use the built-in "Oracle lite" Database.
Is this Oracle lite DB installed in the installation directory of Soa Suite or somewhere else on the hard disc?
Does it need a Win service to run (similar to "full" Oracle DB) or does it run on-demand
in AppServer?

you can go from olite to full DB, but not the other way round. When you do this change you may lose state in your inflight messages.
to migrate from olite to Oracle DB do the following:
1.) Ensure that the new target database is running.
2.) Run IRCA script to create schemas for BPEL, ESB and OWSM in the new Database:
Eg: irca all "localhost 1521 v102" welcome -overwrite3.) Make a backup of the file:
${OC4J_HOME}\config\data-sources.xml4.) Change the following ESB and BPEL connection pools to point to new DB resource.
* BPELPM_CONNECTION_POOL
* ESBAQJMSPool
* ESBPool
You can use either Enterprise Manager Console to perform this changes or edit the file: ${OC4J_HOME}\config\data-sources.xml
Below is a sample of configuration for BPELPM_CONNECTION_POOL:
<connection-pool name="BPELPM_CONNECTION_POOL">
<connection-factory factory-class="oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource"
user="orabpel_OracleAS_1"
password="orabpel" url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:xe"/>
</connection-pool>5.) If you are changing from Olite DB to Oracle EE, look in the project's build.properties files for DB_URL and change DB_VENDOR from "olite" to "oracle"
DB_VENDOR=oracleotherwise no change is neccesary.
6.) Update ESB Metadata - Log into ESB schema (ORAESB) and change the value of DT_OC4J_HOST and DT_OC4J_HTTP_PORT to match your environment Hostname and Port and by running the following SQL script:
insert into esb_parameter values('ACT_ID_RANGE', '400');
insert into esb_parameter values('DT_OC4J_HOST', 'soainternal.mycompany.com');
insert into esb_parameter values('DT_OC4J_HTTP_PORT', '7777');
insert into esb_parameter values('PROP_NAME_INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY', 'com.evermind.server.rmi.RMIInitialContextFactory');

insert into esb_parameter values('PROP_NAME_ERROR_TOPIC_JNDI', 'OracleASjms/ESBErrorTopic');
insert into esb_parameter values('PROP_NAME_ERROR_RETRY_JNDI', 'OracleASjms/ESBErrorRetryTopic');
insert into esb_parameter values('PROP_NAME_ERROR_RETRY_TCF_JNDI', 'OracleASjms/MyXATCF');
insert into esb_parameter values('PROP_NAME_MONITOR_TCF_JNDI', 'OracleASjms/MyTCF');
insert into esb_parameter values('PROP_NAME_MONITOR_TOPIC_JNDI', 'OracleASjms/ESBMonitorTopic');

insert into esb_parameter values('PROP_NAME_CONTROL_TOPIC_JNDI', 'OracleASjms/ESBControlTopic');
commit;

• Can Oracle 9i be installed on non-server Mac OS 10.3?

Hello All,
I apologize if I'm repeating questions, but I've combed the forums for an answer to this question and I've been unable to find much info.
I need to install Oracle 9i on my Ti PowerBook (10.3.2, 1 GHz G4 processor, 1 GB RAM). I want the DB server in addition to the client. All the documentation I found refers to 10.2 server.
Has anyone done this successfully? I'm currently taking a Java course devoted to JDBC and JSP. The instructor chose Ora 9i as the DB. I'm the only non-Windows XP machine in the class. Fortunately the instructor is a UNIX user, so he's fine with me using my Mac. He's even agreed to let me use MySQL in this isolated case. However, I'd really like to get Ora working if I can.
Any information anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Larry Polk

I have installed oracle9i on my imac with 10.2

• Can Oracle 8.1 install at window XP?

dear all,
i would like to know if the Oracle 8.1 for NT/2000 can be installed for window XP or not?
thanks
moises

Yes! You can install Oracle 8.1 on WindowsXP. Then
only problem I've found is that the OracleStart
service give you an error during start up. This is
not a problem, Oracle instance start up corectly even
if there is this error.
I still get the same behaviour running Oracle9i (9.2.0.1.0) on XP. But only when I attempt to start after not having stopped the db properly before (e.g. by simply restarting or shutting down the pc without caring about the Oracle services running in the background).

also the class file or the jar file looks weird or wrapped in the error message : 'FILES\ORA95_2\LITE\DESIGNER\oldes.jar;C:\PROGRAM'
Another interesting thing I noticed is if I run oldes.exe from Installation CD, the Oracle Lite Designer runs fine, and without error, I'm able to modify tables in the database of my laptop also.
Could someone shade some light on what am I doing wrong here ?
Thanks for help in advance .

• JDeveloper 10G (BPEL Designer): how to create db connection to Oracle Lite

I want to create a JDeveloper database connection to the Oracle Lite database installed with JDeveloper 10G BPEL Designer, but haven't been able to find any info on the subject.
Can anyone point me to some info or walk me through it?
Regards

To connect JDeveloper 10g to an Oracle Lite database, you will need to follow this setup.
1. Create an ODBC entry for the Oracle Lite database. If you have installed Oracle Lite 10g Mobile Development Kit, you should have a copy of POLITE.ODB pre-installed. Check your ODBC.ini, or run Administrative Tools > Data Sources (ODBC), and follow the polite entry pattern. If you create a new Oracle Lite database, you must create a matching enrty in the ODBC configuration file.
2. In JDeveloper, create a new connection for your Oracle Lite database.
The Connection Name should match your entry in ODBC for ease of reading.
The Connection Type should be Oracle Lite.
The Username is system.
The Password is xxx.
The Deploy Password box is checked.
The Datasource Name must match the ODBC entry exactly.
Leave the rest of the fields as is.
Test your new connection.
Enjoy.

• Code Warrior and Oracle Lite

Hi, a customer developed a survey application with Code Warrior, they store the data in PDB files, but now they need to store it in Oracle Lite database (installed in a Palm), somebody knows how can i do it?

• UTF8 support in Oracle Lite

I looks to me like Oracle Lite doesn't support the UTF8 character set for storing data. Is this correct?
I have an Oracle 8.1.7 database using UTF8 to store English, Thai, Chinese and Philippino data, and I want to synchronise that with Oracle Lite on Windows 2000 clients. The sync seems to work ok, but any non-english characters are lost in a characterset conversion (display as "?").
Regards
Steve

I'm a bit confused by your reply. Can Oracle Lite store data in a unicode characterset such as UTF8? It looks to me like the "UTF-8 support" is limited to the drivers, so that it can load and extract utf-8 data, but not store it. From section 2.2.1 of the release notes:
"Oracle Lite Database is NOT a NLS component. In order to reduce the kernel size, it is built for each language which supports native character sets for Windows. Which means, each language has each kernel. Here are the character sets supported by this release:
- Chinese: MS936 CodePage (Simplified Chinese GBK, ZHS)
- Taiwanese: MS950 CodePage (Traditional Chinese BIG5, ZHT)
- Japanese: MS932 CodePage (Japanese Shift-JIS, JA)
- Korean: MS949 CodePage (Korean, Ko)
The database kernel for each language in this list only supports its corresponding character set. Other multibyte character sets are not supported."
Also the documentation on the DBCharEncoding parameter you mention suggests that it only affects the UTF translation for java programs. Section A.2.3:
"... Specifies the UTF translation performed by Oracle Lite. If set to NATIVE, no UTF translation is performed. If set to UTF8, UTF translation is performed. If this parameter is not specified, the default is UTF8. This applies to Java programs only."
I've tried playing with these parameters, as well as changing the NLS_LANG parameter on the client, and for the mobile server, for the Oracle Lite home, all to no avail. I'm still losing the non-english data during synchronisation and it does look like it's being lost in a character set conversion rather than just being garbled, as each Thai characters is being replaced by the correct number of "?"s. As an example the Thai string "บริษัท บราเดอร์ คอมเมอร์เชี่ยล (ประเทศไทย) จำกัด" on the 8.1.7 database sever appears as "?????? ???????? ?????????????? (?????????) ?????" on the oracle lite database.
Am I missing something here? If I can get this data syncronising correctly then Oracle Lite looks like it will support all our requirments so any assistance would be greatly appreciated. (Should I post this to the globilization forum or does that focus only on Oracle's enterprise editions?)
BTW, thanks for the info on the sorting. Obviously the characterset issue is more a fundamental problem at this stage, but if we can fix this then it's good to know about the sorting abilities.

• Installing Oracle 10g release 2 on RHEL4

I am new with Linux and Oracle, and I have been assigned to install Oracle 10g Rel 2 in RHEL4 OS.
I have checked and installed missing RPM's and created group users, passwd, configered Kernel, set Shell limits and finally created directories on root as so,
mkdir -p /u01/app/oracle
chown -R oracle:oinstall/u01/app/oracle
chmod -R 775 /u01/app/oracle
After, I mount the CD on root
mount /media/cdrom
After mounting is complete i enter into oracle user and do the following
su - oracle
cd /media/cdrom
./runInstaller
However, I receive the following message : Olite installation requires ORACLE_HOME to be set. PLease set it and retry again.
So I set the following like so,
export ORACLE_BASE=/u01/app/oracle
export ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle
export ORACLE_SID= demo1
./runInstaller
I than get the following message.
Olite installation requires JAVA13_HOME to be set. PLease set it JDK 1.4.1 install area and rety again.
I am not sure what JAVA13_HOME is but I am wondering if it is related to some Mobile sync. Also, could somebody help me and advise if I am going in the right direction here?
Many thanks in advance.
Alex

Hi Alex
Can you please control that ?
JAVA13_HOME will be the location for your JAVA home. You can check the path for your java installtion, either 1.3 or 1.4 and set the path accordingly. Usually in Linux the path will be some thing like /local/java/jdk1.4.2.
TNS_ADMIN should point to $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin
Please read that also http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28928_01/doc/server.103/b28924/preinstall.htm
Let us know if it helps you.

• Unable to install Oracle Lite 10g on Windows 7 64-bit

I've tried installing Oracle Lite 10g on my Windows 7 64-bit computer but I get a message saying "JDK is not installed on machine". I even have Java installed on my computer too.
Any ideas what could be causing the issue?
Thanks

Oracle lite 10g is not supported on Windows 7. The core issue is you are running on an unsupported platform.
You have may have to go in the docs and figure out what JDKs were supported, i think 1.4 and 1.5. and try
installing one of those and maybe you can get uninstall to work. This is just a guess though.

• How to install the oracle lite mobile server?

hi,every one!
I follow the wizard of the oracle lite mobile server,then
pop the window let me input the "host name""port"and "net server name",I have install oracle 9i,and establish a database named "oradb",establish an server named"oradb",the service can be listened and the port is "1521",but in the installation when i input the up numbers, it
tells me that "invalid server name",how can i do?
somebody that do me a favor tell me how to install the oracle 9i lite mobile server,it must be preciated!

Andy,
It sounds like you are not properly connecting to the back end Oracle instance when Lite attempts to install the Mobile Server Repository.
Before attempting a re-install, why don't you try connecting to the same instance using SQL/Plus with the a connect string specifying hostname:1521:SID. If you are not able to connect you need to determine why.

• How to install Oracle Lite ODBC driver without connecting the mobile server

My Oracle Lite version is 10g R3.
I am using branch office version application.
I wanted to connect oracle client database(.odb file) via Lite DSN in a windows XP machine without installing the client in that device.
Some of my users wanted to access the client database from backend which requires a DSN entry in that device.Oracle Lite ODBC gets registered in the device only when we do a setup from the mobile server or if Oracle 10g Lite MDK is installed.
I do not want either of this to be done in my user PC. I wanted a ODBC utility which will register oracle Lite ODBC Driver (Normal & Cleint) in the user PC so that i can manually create and configure the DSN.
Does anyone have a solution for this?

Dear Sir,
Yes, you can find the Driver here

My server has Oracle version 11.1.0.6.0, but the matrix says it wants 11.1.0.7.
I should get a warning right?
Can I just proceed with the install, over-riding the warning?
1b)
If so, what is the procedure to install into the existing database?
It wasn't obvious in the (150 page) install docs. The EBS install delivers its own ORACLE_HOME for the database. There isn't an option to install into an existing database as far I know. The installer will ask where to put the new ORACLE_HOME for the EBS database. You might get a warning if you try to install to a pre-existing ORACLE_HOME, and I don't recommend ignoring that warning. The result will either be ugly immediately or, even worse, ugly later when it's harder to figure out why. ;-)
Do an upgrade?Won't really help. The ORACLE_HOME that's bundled with the installer usually comes with additional patches pre-installed, as well as EBS-friendly configuration options. You're much better off taking what it gives you so you can get down to the real fun of learning EBS. :-)
Or, do regular install, but not Express/Rapid Install?I recommend doing a Vision install for learning EBS.
Can I choose not to install the database software?Nope (unless my memory is really that bad), and there's no real benefit to doing so. All you'd save is a couple GB of disk, and as a percentage of the total install footprint of EBS, the database ORACLE_HOME is relatively tiny.
