Can't add computer in ARD 3.5.1 (461.1) because of "IP conflict"

Hello guys!
We are running a DHCP network with ~250 computers and my problem is that I can't add/re-add new or newly installed Macs' to ARD because another added OFFLINE device is already listed with the same IP address.
What happens is that the "login window" where you have to give admin name and password pops up and immediately close itself again. It took me a while until I finally found out the above being the problem.
For example:
imac-01 already added to ARD is offline and listed with the IP 10.22.0.18
imac-02 which I'm trying to add to ARD is online, ARD enabled and is currently using the IP 10.22.0.18
The only way to add imac-02 is to delete imac-01 from ARD to "free up" the IP address.
Any ideas how to solve this problem or how to "force" ARD to "release" the IP addresses?
* problem occurs on both 10.6.8 and 10.7.2
* ARD is a retail (unlimited) licence obviously updated to 3.5.1 via Software Update.
* preferences deleted on various occasions throughout testing

Having ~250 hosts stuffed into a /24 subnet isn't going to work all that well.  If at all.  (You have room for 253 hosts, after all, counting the router, within a /24 block.  There are usually a few printers and other supporting widgets consuming some additional IP addresses, too.)
You will want to configure a larger subnet and a bigger pool of IP addresses in the DHCP server (eg: a /22 or a /20 subnet configuration, if your gear supports that), or will want to further segmentation within the network and park some hosts in one subnet, and some in the other.
If this 250-host configuration is all on a single or small number of WiFi connections, things get really interesting as this number of hosts can overrun the bandwidth of most low-end WiFi router configurations, too.
Shorter lifetimes for the DHCP address reuse won't work all that well here either, assuming this is a /24.

  • Can't add Computer or New Computer list on 10.3.9 Server Workgroup manager

I have a 10.3.9 server with Open Directory running. I can manage user and group preferences (Workgroup manager v2.0.1) but can't add a computer or new computer list because the option is disabled. If I connect to it's open directory from another server running 10.3.9 and same version of Workgroup Mgr, the new computer list and adding computers is enabled. This other server is in another subnet and not typically available for use by the network admin of the problem server. Any ideas to get the computer management enabled?

    Hi,
    an additional discovery I made:
Take the account "A", which is functioning on these two "problem-clients". I change the password from "123456" to "abcdef".
I try to log in this account with one of these two Macs... -> does NOT work
I try to log in this account with another Client (w/o problems) -> does work
I change the password back to "123456"
I try to log in this account with one of these two Macs -> does work
I deleted the accounts and created new ones. The accounts work fine on every Mac despite these two machines.
It looks like these two clients are not updating the directoryservice information.
So I tried to get a look, which information is readable at the client machines (which are making the trouble):
    lookupd version 369.5 (root 2006.12.02 12:00:25 UTC)
Enter command name, "help", or "quit" to exit

    + Age: 0 (expires in 43200 seconds)
    + Negative: No
    + Cache hits: 0
    + Retain count: 7
I gathered this information on the client, which can NOT log into this account. I can try all new or changed accounts, all are visible to the client....
    Does anybody here unterstand this?
    • the used accounts are all ok
    • other accounts work fine on this two machines
    • the problem only occurs on changed or new accounts.
    • reverting the changed accounts to the old state: the accounts work again

  • Can't add Computer

First, I tried to take remote access, with ARD2, of a computer I have in another location in another city.
That computer is in a commercial location, simply meaning the internet service is the comcast commercial service for commercial property, and is acutally on a wireless(Airport) network with a second computer. Both those computers receive internet wirelessly.
Now, Those two computers within that network are able to remote access one another via ARD2 with no problems.
However, I am unable to take remote access of either of those computers from that other location that is not on a wireless network at all but is connected to the internet via Ethernet. All three computers have the latest ARD2 software installed.
I have no firewalls active and everything is set up on all computers for remote access. When I type in the IP address given to me from the ARD preferences from the computers that are wireless, the ARD I have on the other computer in the other location doesn't detect either of those computers.
I decided to connect one of the computers directly to the internet via ethernet and I still cannot seem to access that computer. I'm not sure why or what's the problem. On both ends, comcast provides the service and on the systems that are wireless, comcast provided the modem. On the other computer that is not wireless I bought my own modem. So I don't know what to do.
I can however take remote access from the wireless computers of the none wirless system in the other city with no problem. I can't seem to figure this out.

The modem that Comcast provides, is it providing private network IP's to your machines or do you have a range of real Internet IP's that you are being given? If your modem is also a router that provides private IP's (usually in the range of 192.x.x.x or 10.x.x.x) then it is probably using NAT which is the same thing the Airport was doing. You have to have a real routable IP address (prferrably fixed) feeding directly to the machines you want to control, or be able to forward your ARD ports to that/those machine(s).
My remote users have to have accounts that are fixed IP, or I can't get to their machines without a lot of run around.
    Hope that helps.

  • Can't add computer to 'iTunes in the Cloud'

For some reason, I'm not able to activate iTunes Match on my MacBook (late 2008 unibody). However, I've successfully enabled iTunes Match on my iMac (mid-2007), iPhone 4 and work computer (MacBook Pro) for a total of 3 devices. It will not activate when I select Store > Turn on iTunes Match or when I try to add the machine from my iTunes Store account (see attached photo).
I've tried downloading iTunes and reinstalling, deleting preference files, repairing permissions, etc. and nothing has worked. Any suggestions or do you think I'll have to make a trip to the Genius Bar?

Heres the fix.  I had to manually download iTunes 10.5.1 from Apple's website.  For some reason it wasn't auto updating.  After i finished installing, I opened iTunes, went to Store>Turn On iTunes Match. It prompted me to add my computer, and it went through the process.
Here's the link for the current version of iTunes (10.5.1)

  • Can't add computer to iTunes Match (Windows)

I subscribed to iTunes match and got a confirmation email.  When I click on "Add this computer" on iTunes, a box pops up prompting for my password.  I enter it, and  the iTunes status bar briefly flashes "accessing iTunes store" but then nothing happens.
Am I doing something wrong, and am I the only one having this problem?
    Thanks!

Any suggestion on determining why my appletv2 does not have the computer section needed to add Itunes on my computer?

i seen recent post, indicating that you cant view unless you buy via itunes. Not true. i have several movies that i bought from amazon, target, walmart etc... the purchased video requires the digital copy as we all know to upload. once you upload the movie to your computer it should... i repeat should upload to itunes library acount. however, here is were my dilemma comes in... why do only some upload and others dont?

  • Can't add computer to iCloud or add iMatch

I've had iMatch since it rolled out a few months ago. Lately, the songs in my library have been greyed out when I go to iTunes. In the past, I would just turn off iMatch, then turn it on again, and my songs would be available in the cloud (black again). But this time, I get error code 5002. It says there is a problem connecting to the iTunes store. What's going on? I checked my internet connection and all is fine.

Thanks. I tried all that, and none of it worked, but a couple hours later, everything was back to normal again. A hiccup in the system? Since this appears to happen so regularly (my music library being greyed out, having to turn stuff on and off again to get it working), I've been thinking of just storing my whole music library on my hard drive. So, here's my question - is there any easy way to download my whole music library from the cloud, or do I have to click on the cloud icon of each track individually? On the iPod Touch (4th gen) you can download an entire album at a time, but I don't see any easy way to do it on the Mac...

  • Can you add a rescue email to an existing account? Because i need help resetting my security questions, ive called up the account security team, and it is doesnt solve my problem. I dont remember Any answers and i have money just sitting there. Please help

also my ipod is a Nano 5th Generation....so when the account security person asks for ipod serial number..its completely useless because the serial codes only work for Ipod Touch and Iphones.
    - Serial Code from Ipod= USELESS..
    - Answer at least one of your security questions= I can't...and the whole reason im having this issue..
    - Have a rescue email= trying to see if i can get one.
This issue is Reaaaallly starting to annoy me, so someone please help Thankss! xo

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Start here, and reset your security questions, you will receive an email to your rescue address, use the link in the email and reset your security questions.
If that doesn't help or you don't have a rescue address, you might try contacting Apple through iTunes Store Support

  • Can't add a new computer to Apple Remote Desktop

When trying to add an iMac to ARD the add computer window drops down then disappears right back up. I can't even type in my username or password. I tried clicking the iMac in the bonjour list and the add computer window just flashes. I've had this before with a Mac Pro. I swapped network ports and then it worked. Upon swapping back I was able to remote and add via both network interfaces. Since it's an iMac I cannot apply that trick. I did try something similar with airport on the iMac but was unsuccessful. Anyone else have this issue?

Thank you so much that worked perfectly.
I tried searching before posting, but couldn't find a thread that resolved this issue. Discussion search seems to be a bit useless.

  • Can't add music to ipod touch even though computer and itunes recognize it

I have an ipod touch 4th generation that has suddenly stopped allowing me to add any music to it. It worked absolutely great with no problems for about a year  and suddenly when I load it up on itunes I can't add any music to it at all. if I try and drag any music from my computer on to it, I get this no icon as you can see
Same if I try and add music from my itunes library.
I've done pretty much everything I can think of to try and fix this, I've completely wiped itunes from my computer and re-installed, I've made sure that my ipods ios is up to date, I've reset my ipod, I've completely erased my ipod and restored it to factory settings. I have an old backup but it fails every time I try and restore it, saying that the backup session failed. I've tried resetting the lockdown folder as recommended but when I delete it, itunes can't connect to my ipod, so I ended up restoring the lockdown folder back to where it was from my trash can. I've made sure all my drivers are up to date and my computer is AMD so i know its not an intel chipset/ipod issue. I've turned off my antivirus and computer security programs and that made no difference at all.
These problems are the same when tried on another computer and I'm sure I've done other things as well but I'm drawing a blank trying to think them up.
I have an old ipod mini that has absolutely no problems at all using the same itunes and computer so I'm pretty sure this issue is located just on this ipod. I bought it used on amazon so the warranty and service coverage have already expired, so I kinda have to figure out how to fix it myself..
Anybody help at all with this would be greatly appreciated

I don't see how it could be windows causing the issue since my other ipod works fine with this installation of windows on this computer and I don't at the moment have anyway to back up what I have on my computer in order to re-install windows, but maybe if nobody else has another solution I'll look into it. Thank you for your help and suggestions

  • My computer crashed. So does this mean I can not add any more music to my ipod from a different computer without all the songs being erased? Can I sync my ipod to a new computer if I allow all the songs to be erased?

My computer crashed. So does this mean I can not add any more music to my ipod from a different computer without all the songs being erased? The ipod works fine and now i got a new computer. So it seems like my only options are leaving my ipod in a state where i cant add anymore songs or erasing all my songs and trying to use my ipod from my new computer. Can someone please inform me on how to have my ipod work from a different computer, even if i have to erase my songs. Thanks.

Yes, if you choose the Erase and Sync option (or restore your iPod) you will be allowed to sync your iPod with the new computer.

  • HT4352 how can I add an additional apple tv to my computer

How can I add an aditional apple tv to my computer and my remote on my phone?

Hello bardlight. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Based on your configuration description, the Logitech TV is physically connected properly to the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn). You do want it connected to one of the available LAN ports on the AEBSn.
By default, the AEBSn, is performing as a DHCP server. Also, by default, most computing devices are configured as DHCP clients. What this means is that the AEBSn should be providing the proper IP addresses to any connected (wired or wireless) in order for that device to access both the network and on to the Internet.
It sounds like that Logitech TV is just not configured properly as a DHCP client.

  • How can I deactivate a computer in iTunes if I don't have access to it? Computer crashed and now I'm at my limit of 5 and can't add my new computer

I'm trying to upgrade the iOS for my iPad 2 and I can't because it will delete all my purchased apps since the computer I'm using can't be activated. My old desktop has no access to the Internet anymore and my laptop is fried so I don't have the ability to deactivate either of them. iTunes says that I've reached my limit of 5 and I have no idea what the other three are, but I need to activate my new laptop so that I can upgrade the iOS on my iPad. How can I deactivate computers that are either not online or dead?

    1. open itunes
    2. click "itunes store" on left side
    3. click "account" on right side
    4. login
    5. click "deauthorize all" button
this will obviously deauthorize all computer associated with your account, then you can re-add the ones you need afterwards.
note: i've heard (i dont know this for a fact) that you can only do this once per year.
