Can't get LOM setup

Please, do not link me to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2773, which is everyone's default reply to LOM issues.
I'm trying to get LOM setup on my server. And here are the issues I've run in to. Up front, the server is already setup, so using Setup Assistant is out.
When I use Server Monitor on the XServe itself, it connects fine to 127.0.0.1 (as expected). But of course, I want to connect to it via the IP. However, I'm not sure what the LOM was originally set to.
The server has an ip of 10.0.0.20. And I want the LOM to be 10.0.0.21. Yes, 10.0.0.21 is free for use.
I used "ipmitool lan set 1 ipaddr 10.0.0.21". And then I used Server Monitor to match those settings. And I verified the user settings with "ipmitool user list 1"
Now, if I try to use Server Monitor from the XServe for 127.0.0.1 it connects fine. For 10.0.0.21 it says "Incorrect user name or password".
However, I know the username and password I entered are correct. And if I look at the log it says "Failed to connect to server".
If I add the server with a completely made up username and password the same error occurs in the log ("Failed to connect to server".
If I add the server with a completely made up IP, such as 10.0.0.90, the same error occurs in the log ("Failed to connect to server").
So from the log it is not possible to tell whether their is an actual problem communicating to the LOM ip address or whether it is actually a username and password problem.
I also used ipmitool to manually set the user and password just in case Server Monitor was being wonky and not correctly setting them.
What steps might I be over looking?
What should I try trouble shooting next?

MrHoffman,
I am trying to access LOM on the Xserve from my Laptop. I'm not sure why I'd ever want to connect from the Xserve to its own LOM, especially when I could just connect via local 127.0.0.1.
Both machines are behind the same point of the network. The server is 10.0.0.20 with a lom address of 10.0.0.21. And my laptop is 10.0.0.54.
Here are the problems I've had with HT2773...
1.) Server Assistant is for when setting up the machine.
2.) Server Monitor - I've repeatedly tried to setup LOM using this, but to no avail. When I try to connect from my laptop it always says ""Failed to connect to server" in either of the following scenarios...
Scenario 1: When given the right IP address but wrong username and password
Scenario 2: When given the wrong IP address and right username and password
So trouble shooting if it is a connection or a user problem is difficult.
3.) I tried using ipmitool, but now it is giving the two errors I listed previously...
"ipmitool lan print" gives the error: "Channel 14 is not LAN"
"ipmitool user list" gives the error: "Command failed with error 0xFFFEF9CC
These errors only appeared after I used ipmitool to create a new user and to assign the LOM ip address.

I bought a used iphone 4s on ebay and it shows a clean esn online.  I can't get through setup because its asking for "prior user?" email and id...at least thats what it appears to be aking for.  How do I get the old information off so I can complete new setup?

    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH13695
Ask the person you bought the phone from.  There is no way to pass the icloud activation locked without the previous owners info.
My guess you bought a stolen phone, suggest you return it and get your money back and then buy from an authorized Apple dealer.

  • Can't get past  "Setup Profile" for registration

I'm trying to register for My Verizon, but I can't get past the "Setup Profile" page in order to register. The "Continue" button on the bottom right will not allow me to click it. What's up?

Have you tried refreshing the page?  Using a different browser? Clearing cache and cookies on your browser?
Is you browser up-to-date?  Running any add-ons like an ad blocker that might accidentally interfere?  Try it with a stock, updated version of Firefox or IE.  If that doesn't work, you might need to wait a few days, and if that doesn't help, call in and ask for some troubleshooting.

  • Can't get MIDI Setup to open

I am unable to use any of my midi controllers with my new Macbook Pro OS X 10.7.3.
Checked on M-Audio's website to see if I needed any drivers for the controllers and it says that all are class compliant.
I tried to open Audio-MIDI Setup I got this message. "Audio MIDI Setup couldn't open the MIDI Server so you can't view or edit your MIDI configurations. If you recently installed a new MIDI driver, try uninstalling it and then open Audio MIDI Setup again. If Audio MIDI Setup works correctly after that, contact the driver's manufacturer for further support." I never downloaded any MIDI drivers FYI. I will also attached a screen shot of the window that popped up that reads the above statement. What should I do next? How can I get my MIDI Setup?

    Hello all,
I was wondering if you ever were able to access your midi setup window?  I have the same exact problem.  I plan on pasting the kextstat -kl | awk ' !/apple/ { print $6 $7 } ' in my terminal window tomorrow when I can have access to my Mac again (left it at work).
I'm absolutely dying to get this problem solved.  I took it back to BestBuy and they told me I should wipe and reinstall everything.  I just cannot believe that is the only solution.
Please let me know if there is any information you can give me that might help.
My Mac is only two months old.  I was able to access my MIDI setup window for a few days even after I downloaded a digidesign driver.  As of last week all I get is the same exact pop up window that you posted last year.  Unbelievably frustrating.
    Thanks for any help!

  • Can't get into setup page

I have been using my WRT54G wireless router for a couple years with no problem until my company put a new router/modem (pannaway) in my home. Now I need to enter the settings manually but I have pressed the reset button for more than 30 seconds more than once and have typed in 192.168.1.1 the sign in thing comes up and I leave user name blank and type in admin as password but it says HTTP/1.0 401 Authorization Required
so now how can I get in to configure manually? I am using windows vista.

You need to try again to reset the router to factory defaults.
To reset your router to factory defaults, use the following procedure:
    1) Power down all computers, the router, and the modem, and unplug them from the wall.
    2) Disconnect all wires from the router.
    3) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    4) Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release it, then let the router reset and reboot (2-3 minutes).
    5) Power down the router.
    6) Connect one computer by wire to port 1 on the router (NOT to the internet port).
    7) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    8) Power up the computer (if the computer has a wireless card, make sure it is off).
    9) Try to ping the router. To do this, click the "Start" button > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. A black DOS box will appear. Enter the following: "ping 192.168.1.1" (no quotes), and hit the Enter key. You will see 3 or 4 lines that start either with "Reply from ... " or "Request timed out." If you see "Reply from ...", your computer has found your router.
    10) Open your browser and point it to 192.168.1.1. This will take you to your router's login page. Leave the user name blank, and in the password field, enter "admin" (with no quotes). This will take you to your router setup page. Note the version number of your firmware (usually listed near upper right corner of screen). Exit your browser.
If you get this far without problems, try the setup disk (or setup the router manually, if you prefer), and see if you can get your router setup and working.
If you cannot get "Reply from ..." in step 9 above, your router is dead.
If you get a reply in step 9, but cannot complete step 10, then either your router is dead or the firmware is corrupt. In this case, use the Linksys tftp.exe program to try to reload your router with the latest firmware. After reloading the firmware, repeat the above procedure starting with step 1.
If you need additional help, please state your ISP, the make and model of your modem, your router's firmware version, and the results of steps 9 and 10. Also, if you get any error messages, copy them exactly and report back.
Please let me know how things turn out for you.

  • Keyboard found/working - but can't get into setup in system preferences

    Hi,
I've had the Apple Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard (the flat aluminum one) for about a year. It works great, but recently want to see if I could modify some keys.
Wen into System Preferences, clicked "Set Up Bluetooth Keyboard" and it just searches for the keyboard forever, but never finds it.
Weird thing is if I go into bluetooth pref pane keyboard is there and paired, and as I say works fine. I don't know if I can re-map any soft keys / function keys with this keyboard (because I can't get into prefs) but I would like to find out!
    TIA...Larry

    Hello Larry:
What are you trying to do? You can change KB shortcuts, but you cannot make a "K" key become a "Y" key.

My Time Machine is doing fine as a router, but I'm having no luck getting it set up as a backup.  Could someone please walk me thru the steps to set up the backup function?  I have low computer skills.

You setup the backup from the Time Machine, ie the software in the computer. It is as simple as clicking the icon and selecting the Time Capsule as the backup location. Remember the software is time machine.. the hardware is time capsule. So if the TC is running as a router it is fully accessible by the network and the hard disk will present to the Mac as a network drive. You can then just choose it in TM.
Pondini has given lots of notes about it.

And there is plenty of stepup info from apple for time machine.

  • Can't get past setup assistant after installing leopard...

i am having trouble getting past the setup assistant after installing leopard on my other computer which is a 1.25 ghz G4 desktop. Everything seems to be going fine then the setup assistant comes up and i go through the exercise of filling it out and at the end it says click on done and then you can use the computer. unfortunately it goes right back into the setup assistant like i had never gone there before. it is in some kind of loop. would it be wise to reinstall leopard? if so, does it know that it was installed already and rewrite over the first install? or is there something else i may try. i tried resetting the PRAM and some other things recommended but nothing seems to work. any help will be appreciated.
    thanks in advance...

    mr_magicman,
I can imagine how frustrating this must be for you. It sounds like you went for the (default) Upgrade option.
    Okay, how about trying this:
    1. With the *OS X 10.5 Install Disk 1* still in the bay, Restart your computer. Without access to menus, you'll have to use the power switch to turn it off. +[Alternatively, if you do have access to menus, select the Restart command (in the Apple menu) — always the preferred method.]+
    2. If you're using the power switch method, here, wait about 10 - 15 seconds then depress the power switch again for about 5 full seconds (or until you hear the computer come back to life). +[Alternatively, if you had selected the Restart command in Step 1, the computer will start up again on its own.]+ *Either way, as the computer starts up, press and keep pressing, the Mouse until the disk ejects.* By the way, if you're using a Mighty Mouse with a left and right option, press down on the left side only. Hopefully this will get you out of the loop caused by your Install DVD remaining in the drive.
Finally, to be fair to you, I must tell you that there's a more suitable Forum for your particular kind of problem, viz., *Installation and Setup* (http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1219) I recommend you check out the questions/answers in that Forum in case your question has already been asked and answered.
PS. If you do re-post your question in that Forum, don't forget to mention whether or not you internal hard disk has been backed up.
    GOOD LUCK!
    Bill

  • BEFW11S4 Can't get past Setup

Hi.....Inherited a BEFW11S4 v3.2. After some fiddling around, have managed to access the Setup screens. Reset to defaults - both on the router, and using the option in Setup. Setup accepted my network name, and when I submitted a new password I got an acceptance message - even though the number of asterisks denoting the password reverted to what I take to be a default after the screen reloads.
So, my computer is obviously accessing the router, and I can see that the router is broadcasting a signal - and the network is identified by the new name I've given it when I scan for wireless networks - but I cannot access the internet. I know that my modem is working, because I have no trouble getting online with another Linksys router.
I believe I've updated to the latest firmware - 1.45v10 - although the setup screen still displays only 1.45, 2003.
Am I missing something fundamental here?
    Thanks

To upgrade the firmware you may use the TFTP Utility
Double click the tftp.exe file and click run :
For Server- Enter the IP Address of the router that you assigned.  By default, the router is 192.168.1.1...
For Password- Enter the password you assigned the router. By default, the router’s password is “admin”.
For File- Click the triple “…” button and browse for the .bin firmware file...
Click Upgrade button to start upgrading.  A progress bar should show up to show the progress.
Once the Upgrade is done press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...
Follow the link here as your ISP is Cable...
Once you are done you can change the SSID/Network Name under the Wireless tab and change the channel to 11 or 1 and click Save Settings...
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WEP, Encryption should be 64 bits.Leave the passphrase blank, don't type in anything...
Under WEP Key 1 type in any 10 numbers please(numbers only and no letters eg: your 10 digit phone number) and click on save settings...
Please make a note of WEP Key 1 as this is the Security Key for the Wireless Network...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

  • All account settings lost - can't get past Setup Assistant

    Dear all -
I just rebooted my computer (because an iDisk transfer froze Finder again...) and now all my user data appears to be gone. I can still login, but after that I get the Mac OS X Setup Assistant... After I re-enter all that crap, the login screen pops up again, and I can start all over again, and again, and again...
    Something is clearly wrong here.
I haven't set up any other accounts, so I think I am hosed.
The computer is only three months old, so I am covered by warranty, but it is still annoying.
Does anyone out here know if there is a way out of this mode w/o a full re-install?
    Regards,
    Erwin

    "Applebob for president"
Just tried the applebob solution, but was worried with no joy after 100 revs of the progress wheel I get the jet engine fan of **** that many of us enjoyed when we had our early leopard upgrades. After a long while the fans stop and the HD starts to run it's boot up chugging and I get the safe startup dialogue.
I could not understand what he means by 'hit back' so logging in gets me the same setup assistant scenario, quitting that goes back to the login screen and i select the restart option which drops me into the blue screen where i get a software update feature running as Applebob mentions
To confirm my own problem for those searching to cure a similar incident. I was installing last nights apple quicktime upgrade which went fine on a g4 powermac and al-book I initially cancelled the upgrade on the g5 at the login phase to go back to review the reasons for the quicktime upgrade then went ahead to upgrade. Upon typing my login details was given an immediate restart option.. although i doubted the wisdom of doing so i did it and when it rebooted i had the perpetual setup assistant syndrome as others mention. Clearly the applebob solution fixed the botched quicktime update.

  • Can't get emails setup.

The 9720' keeps stating activation request failed. I don't have a business account and yet I only get given an enterprise activation screen for email setup. Help

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
To use the proprietary BB services (including Push email capability, BBM, etc.), you must have an adequate data plan from your carrier. The carriers host BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service) for their BB users. Typically, BIS is not available via generic data plans. Many carriers call what is necessary The Blackberry Data Plan. Whatever they call it, it is the carrier who delivers BIS to their BB users -- contact them for assistance. Once you have a Push-email enabled BIS-capable data plan on your BB (at whatever fees your carrier will charge, btw), your BB-proprietary services will function (e.g., you will have Personal/Internet Email added to the email setup wizard, your BBM will function, etc).
With hundreds of carriers in the world, each with dozens of different data plans, it's impossible to tell you specifically what any service plan might actually provide. Only the carriers can answer that question. The best thing to do is to decide what services you desire, and then talk to your carrier about obtaining (from them) a data plan that enables what you desire.
    Good luck!

  • I followed the Clear CMOS Ram guidelines but I can't get into Setup!

hey folks, thanks loads for the guildlines in the stickies, I followed the one for removing the battery to clear the CMOS RAM, and when it gets to the point where I press F1 to continue or DELETE to enter SETUP, whichever I press it just takes me to a blank screen with a flashing cursor in the top left corner (i think its the _ symbol or the -), and when I reboot I have to repeat the process of the monitor won't come on properly. If I just press DELETE to go into SETUP before the error comes up it does the same thing but theres a thick blue line at the bottom of the screen too.
    Any clues?
    Specs: 64MB NVidia GeForce 2 MX440 AGP 2x
    512MB 2100DDR RAM

    Mobo: K7N2 Delta2-LSR specs on here: http://msicomputer.co.uk/Products.aspx?product_id=703554&cat_id=77
any help would me so appreciated as i'm at the end of my tether now!
    cheers
    alex

Hello, thanks all for your reply.
I did notice my card is 2x and technically the board is 4x/8x, I read up on the AGP thing and it seemed very likely that it would work anyway. Am I stupid for thinking that it would work?  Why would there be a checksum error because of that though?
Anyway, in answer to the original question I needed to boot from CDROM so I could format and install Windows XP on my hard drive so I entered the setup and changed it to boot from the CDROM first, there was also a section I changed from Manual to Auto - I can't remember specifically what it was for, but they were exactly the same anyway, I think I left it on Auto as that always went for the most stable option and I really wanted to avoid any trouble (ugh!). Either way, like I say it didn't change any settings anyway so I don't see how it could be that.
    So I posted on Driverheaven.net here: http://www.driverheaven.net/showthread.php?t=102308
They suggested I clear CMOS and thats where I am now!
Thanks for the replies, any more ideas?

  • New iPod...can't get to setup assistant

Okay, I'm not a computer genius so bear with my description of my problem:
I am trying to setup my new iPod. I assume, from the Quick Start instructions, that once I get to the www.apple.com/ipod.start page a Setup Assistant will automatically start. I am not seeing a Setup Assistant. What could be the issue here?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
    Once you get here...
    http://www.apple.com/ipod/start/
You need to download iTunes 7. Once that is downloaded, connect your iPod. The setup assistant should then appear in iTunes (it may take a minute or so).
