Can't install epson scanner

I'm new to the mac. Have a nice new mac pro but one problem. I can't install my epson scanner. In checking for driver for the mac from epson the only one they currently have is a beta version which even they acknowledge has a lot of glitches. So I clearly do not want to muck up a new mac with a junky piece of software.
I can think of no way around this. Anyone have any ideas?
Scanner is an Epson Perfection 1640SU model.
Thanks,
Ann

About install of scanner. I wrote my question about installing it. Fiddled around with it one more time. It didn't work, I was disgusted. Shut down the computer and went shopping.
Came home, turned on the computer, and lo and behold, up pops a window indicating that the scanner was ready to scan.
And---it was. Works fine.
Maybe, not sure but maybe, once the driver is installed you need to re-boot the computer. It might be worth trying to see if that's the deal with this thing. No guarantees, of course, mine was just a lucky happenstance.

  • Can't get Epson scanner to work

I have an Epson Perfection 3170 scanner that I am trying to get to work under Arch.  I installed the sane and xsane packages and xsane reports "no devices available".  I tried downloading the driver for the Perfection 3170 from the Epson web site.  They have both iscan-2.10.0-1.c2.i386.rpm and iscan_2.10.0-1.tar.gz available.  I first tried compiling the code from the tar.gz package.  The ./configure worked OK but the make quickly failed, complaining about some errors in a C function call.  I next tried the .rpm file.  I unpacked it using rpmextract.sh into a temporary directory and then copied the files to the appropriate system directories.  This installed some new files such as /etc/sane.d/epkowa.conf, /usr/lib/sane/libsane-epkowa.so.1, etc.  I added epkowa to /etc/sane.d/dll.conf and commented out epson and epson2.  Still no luck.

I reviewed various suggestions in https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sane
    I tried "# gpasswd -a myusername scanner"
I looked in /lib/udev/rules.d/49-sane.rules.  It already contained the lines:

    ATTRS{idVendor}=="04b8", ATTRS{idProduct}=="0116", MODE="0664", GROUP="scanner", ENV{libsane_matched}="yes"
I tried adding this line to /etc/sane.d/epkowa.conf
    usb 0x04b8 0x0116
I tried removing all lines from /etc/sane.d/dll.conf except epkowa.  Also tried just epson and epson2.
So far, nothing works.  scanimage -L always returns "No scanners were identified."
    Any suggestions?

  • Where can I find Epson Scanner Software?

I am installing an Epson RX700 All-in-one Printer/Scanner/Copier on a new iMac 21 Inch (no DVD drive). Software Update loads a driver for the Printer but there is nothing I can find to operate the Scanner. The Epson and Apple guidance is to use the Software Update to acquire/update all relevant software but it seems impossible to get anything for the scanner. Can anyone point me to a solution, please? My new iMac replaces a 2010 model with 10.8.2 so I know that software is available and works. Also. I would like to use the same sofware as it has features that I need, such as scanning in multiple 35mm slides.

Add the scanner in System Preferences, Print & Scan.
It needs to be hooked up and powered on.

  • I can´t install Epson Scan with OSX 10.9

I've recently upgraded to Mavericks and the scanner of my multifunction Epson XP-205 stopped working. It worked as a printer though.
When reinstalling a message of finder appears, saying that it is impossible to use "EPSON Scan 3.7.9f0" with this version of OS X.
A message in the installing window also says "failiure when changing definitions of EPSON Scan.
Nevertheless, the technical specifications for my multifunctions says it works with any version of OSX 10.5 or further.
Is there any help on that matter?

Use Image Capture app in your Applications folder instead.
Connect the scanner to your Mac whether Wi-Fi or USB.
    Launch Image Capture.
Click the very small black box bottom left side of the Image Capture window.
You'll see this pop up menu:   Connecting this (device) opens:
You can select a default app to scan (Image Capture) and select a folder from the Imort To pop up menu on the right to save scanned files to.

  • How can I install epson stylus nx625 driver on my Macbook Pro?

I've spent a frustrating few hours today going back and forth between Apple tech support and Epson tech support and still do not have a solution to what should be a simple problem.  I got a new MacBook Pro as a work computer and want to install my home printer on it so that I can print when working from home.  The printer is an Epson Stylus NX 625 all in one.
The directions on Epson's website indicate that the only way to install is use the "Software Update" function by going to the Apple icon on the upper left corner.  When doing this, the system looks for an update and finds nothing.  Printer is connected to the MacBook  via usb cable and is also on my wireless network.  I called Apple tech support and they said they don't have a driver for this Epson device and I should contact Epson.  I called Epson tech support and they say that they don't even have the driver for this device on their website because "Apple has signed off on ownership of this driver and only they can deliver this to you via their software update".   Can anyone help?
I am running Mountain Lion, OS X 10.8.1
    Thanks for any assistance provided.

  • Can't install Epson DX9400F on Mac OS X Lion

Hi everyone, today I attempted to install this printer on a user brand new iMac running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3.
I've downloded drivers from this page:
    http://esupport.epson-europe.com/ProductHome.aspx?lng=it-IT&data=lkuCfcvA9cxnf8Z V9HDZBHeE1dsHzrnm6blXyleNBnwU003D&tc=6
but have no luck in installing the printer: there's no way it will appear in the Print & Scan setup of Preferences Panel.
It looks like Mac OS X Lion should support this model:
    http://esupport.epson-europe.com/ViewArticle.aspx?lng=it-CH&kbid=328166&data=qBj AbS6NcI0dde3u28yXZ8i8OiVj3qn5
but I've not been promped with any request of installing when I plugged in the printer.
The printer itself works properly on Windows and I've checked the USB cable too.
Any help/suggestion would be greatly appreciated!

  • Can't install Epson stylus 230 with Mountain Lion.

Everytime I go to install the software from the website, I'm being prompted that I'm not the Admin and to log in as such.  Well I am the Admin.  Contacted Epson support and they said its the OS. I've restarted and redownloaded the software several times but nothing works. Ideas?

Thank you for providing the information.  It certainly helps in trying to replicate what you are experiencing.  First, let me say that you really shouldn't have to download software from the Epson site.  The latest drivers would normally be pushed by Apple's Software Update.
If you specifically want the Epson Scan software, then you would have to get that from Epson.   I personally do prefer the Epson Scan software over the standard Image Capture software, but that is only my opinion.
ILn any event, I followed your directions.  I downloaded two files. The main printer drivers was a file epson14341.dmg and the Epson Scan software was epson14339.dmg.  I did get two prompts.  The first was to say I wanted to open the software downloaded from the web.  The second was a standard authentication for the installer.  Screen shots below.
Are you getting a chance to enter your username and password?  Can you post a screen shot of what is preventing you from installing the software?

I upgraded to 10.8.4 and now I can' use my Epson scanner  I get a message saying, "ou can't open the application Epson Scan apps because Power PC applications are no longer supported." I also can't synch my old Palm Pilot for the same reason.
    How can I fix this?

We need to sort out some facts here first:
    •  You cannot be running Mt. Lion on your iMac G5.  What Mac is it?  What is the Model Identifier listed in About This Mac; More Info; Hardware Overview
    •  What is the model of your Epson Scanner?
    •  Have you attempted to scan using Image Capture, located in your Applications folder?
    •  Your Palm Pilot software will only run in Snow Leopard; so depending upon which Mac you have, you will either have to:
    1)  partition your hard drive or add an external hard drive and install Snow Leopard into it to "dual-boot" when you want to access you Palm software, or
    2)  install Snow Leopard Server (now available from Apple for $20 telephone orders USA & Canda only) into Parallels 8 to run your Palm software in Mt. Lion:

  • VUESCAN & V550 EPSON SCANNER

I need some help from the experts here. I recently bought Vuescan in order to get the best out of my new Epson 550V. But the Vuescan does not see that scanner. I also have a Canon all in one printer that scans & Vuescan does see & scan from it.
The Epson Scanner software does see & scan from the 550
Image cature only offers the Canon all in one as a source but not the Epson.
System Printer & Scanner prefs pane does not see the Epson scanner
In "about this mac" system report" USB it does see that the Epson scanner is connected to the computer
I exchaned many emails with Ed Hamerick of Vuescan but he finnally gave up & could not resolve the problem
Does any have any ideas as to how I can get this epson scanner recognized by vuescan as well as image capture?

For those who come across this problem I have found a soution.
Sometime I get very motivated by a challenge!!! I noticed a posting on the Appe Discussion Board about ICA driver that would allow for using the Epson Scanner in Image Capture so I d loaded it from http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&oid= 231162&prodoid=63097270&infoType=Downloads&detected=yes&platform=OSF_M_X9 &
After I installed the ICA driver everything was fixed. The Epson Scanner shows up in Vuescan & works properly. It now shows up  in “Printer & Scanner” preference pane, & it shows up in Image Capture.

The problem appears to be that the system cannot find a driver. Is the driver suppose to come from sane and there is a configuration issue? Is the system suppose to find the driver as a module or compiled-in the kernel? Is there some wild and wonderful dev - devsfs issue?

the generic usb scanner module is no longer in the kernel. any scanner that used it mus use libusb now. to do this first remove any entry you have in any module loading files that load that module.
next add either one of these lines to your fstab:
    none /proc/bus/usb/ usbfs defaults 0 0
    or
    none /proc/bus/usb/ usbdevfs defaults 0 0
but going by your output so far you would seem to have one of these two lines in fstab.
anyway either one of those lines will give root only access to your scanner so you will need to give your user access to the device. your can do that in a few ways.
first you can create a group add your user to it then edit your usbfs line to read:
    none /proc/bus/usb/ usbfs rw,mode=666,gid=<--newgroupnamehere--> 0 0
or if you have a single user you can edit the line to read:
    none /proc/bus/usb/ usbfs defaults,mode=666 0 0
if this does not work read up on hotplug or add this line to you rc.local:
    chown -R <yourusername>.users /proc/bus/usb/xxx/*
where the "xxx" represents the three digit number directory in /proc/bus/usb/ that represents your scanner. you can find this by running scanimage -L as root and it will give you two three digit numbers in the output. then look in the number directory/directories for those two numbers and that will be the directory you put in for the xxx.
