Can't mount Esata as user without booting with it inserted

When I plug in my NTFS-formatted eSATA drive it is not mounted. If I boot with it plugged in it's mounted but then I have problems during boot. My computer tries to do a filesystem check and it ends with "run fsck manually or press ctrl+D to continue. Not every time but often enough to be a problem.
I have Udisks installed and I followed this guide from the WIKI: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Udev
I have these rules in /etc/udev/rules.d/:
10-esata.rules  10-my-media-automount.rules  11-media-by-label-auto-mount.rules. Copied from the UDEV wiki.
If I use USB it's mounted instantly without problems. I am running a fully up to date install of Arch x86_64 with openbox.

OK. Here's my 10-esata.rules
[DEVPATH=="/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:14.1/host4/*",
ENV{UDISKS_SYSTEM_INTERNAL}="0"/]
A here's the output of udevadm monitor
[root@htpc1 jan]# udevadm monitor
monitor will print the received events for:
UDEV - the event which udev sends out after rule processing
KERNEL - the kernel uevent
Seems like nothing happens. How long do I need to wait?
Same output with the disk plugged or not.

  • Can I Update Time Machine Backup Without Booting From The Source Drive

    Greetings,
Can I update a time machine backup without booting from the original source drive?
My main Macbook Pro internal drive seemed to have died. I had not backed up in months so my Time Machine backup was old.
I replaced the drive with a new one and settled for restoring from the old TM backup because my latest info was on the dead drive and not backed up.
I just plugged the "broken" drive into a dock and it mounted.
It won't boot from the drive but I can mount it and copy from it so far.
I now want to update my Time Machine backup with the info on the 'broken" drive while it's able to be mounted.
How can I accomplish this without booting from the 'broken" drive and running time machine.
    Recap...
I need to update a Time Machine backup using another hard drive without booting from the source (as I cannot). Both drives are connected via USB to my MBP and I am booted from another MBP. I want to end up with the newer info from the "broken" drive updating my older Time Machine backup.
    Thank You,
    SG

    Hi
Time Machine will only be able to backup whilst booted into OSX, so unless you can mount the drive, and boot up the OS that is installed on the disk, then no, you will not be able to run a Time Machine backup of that drive.
You could image the drive onto another using Disk Utility
    Cheers

  • Can CWMS import Local CUCM users without LDAP

    Hello,
CWMS documentation states that CWMS integrates with LDAP via CUCM LDAP integration. My question is if the CUCM is not AD integrated will the CWMS be able to import local CUCM directory users via AXL?
    Thanks
    Aamir

    Hello Aamir,
the "Directory Integretion" from CWMS is based on an integretion to the CUCM user data base.
So have to pull the data from the CUCM.
    Just go to:
    Users --> directory Integration
Directory integration can be performed in four steps:
    Add CUCM server.
Synchronize now and set up a synchronization schedule.
    Enable LDAP authentication.
    Notify your users.
    Hope that helps
    Best regards
    Ben

  • Is there any way I can message non iphone etc users without going to my phone which will message anyone?

Help.  When sending messages on my ipad, I always have to send non iOS users from my phone as a SMS .  Frustrating!  They are in my contacts but I guess only for email. Any way around this feature on my ipad?

Note, that the texting Apps mentioned above will issue a different phone number to you from whcih your messages will be delivered to your Non Apple recipients.    And they in turn will have to sms you to this different number for you to recieve SMS's on your iPad.
In short its more complex to try to SMS through an iPad that you would think.

  • Will Windows 10 support Multi User Pre-Boot with Bitlocker?

Currently if you wish to follow UK Government guide lines on using Bitlocker you need to configure Bitlocker to use a minimum 7 digit startup pin. Now this would be device specific so in a business enviroment hundred's of client machines would have
    different PINS.
will future versions of Bitlocker provide User Level PINS over Device Level? i.e multiple users have access to one machine each with there own individual PINS seperate to there AD Credentials to provide a two-factor style authentication.

You could manage multiple bitlocker of users using Active Directory and Group Policy, take a look at:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh831713.aspx
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/enterprise/products-and-technologies/mdop/mbam.aspx
If your case is not supported , then use Feedback App in Windows10 and share your idea.

  • Can I do backups and updates without syncing with itunes?

I want to use other methods to put content on my IPAD and just use Itunes for backing up my IPAD and installing updates. I also want to be able to manually put content on my IPAD using drag and drop within Itunes. If I select the checkbox in preferences to prevent automatic syncing will this do what I want?
    Thanks.

Yes, if you check the box to prevent automatic syncing, you will have the control to do what you want to do. I have always chosen the option to not automatically open iTunes or to sync when I connect any of my "iDevices". I check the music, apps, photos, books, etc, that I want to sync -always have and always will. I drag and drop as well at times. I want the control and that is how you get it, by checking that box in the preferences.

  • Can I mount .iso images directly into my file system ?

    Hello,
I would like to install new Solaris releases as they are released, but I would rather not burn a set of 5 CDs for every new release just to update my system.
I heard there is an 'upgrade install' in the Solaris installer, that will try to preserve my existing system, while installing a new Solaris release. Is it working ?
I would like to download the .iso images, mount them during install, and use them like this to upgrade my system. Is it possible ?
    Thank you,
    Timothy Madden

Oh, I meant I have looked on the man pages and on docs.sun.com and I found both tools as you said. But I did not upgraded already, that's going to take a while.
First I need to make more room and I am still waiting answers on some other topic I started about physical disc slices.
Live Upgrade looks like a lot of work, there are many search results about it and I would simply go for mounting .iso images after booting the miniroot with GRUB and then starting the installer. I am not 100% sure I can start the installer without booting with a real CD-ROM, but I think it should work.

  • How to share an autofs mounted drive between users?

    Hi all,
I've spent a frustrating (albeit informative) couple of days trying to share my ITunes library between two users on the same MacBook Pro. I've managed to share the iTunes library files themselves by placing the iTune.xml in the /Users/Shared folder and creating aliases in each user's /Users/username/Music folder. However, it's getting the iTunes library to recognise the remote media location thats the problem. All the iTunes media files are on a Synology DiskStation NAS which I am trying to mount in such a way that it can be seen the same way - regardless of which user is logged in.
Firstly, I tried mounting the DiskStation/itunes folder and placing a link to the mount in each user's Login Items, but that never seems to give me a persistent mount.
Secondly, I tried creating an /etc/auto_afp file to specify the mount location and using the /etc/auto_master file to mount the Diskstation/itunes folder to /Users/Shared/itunes.  This works great - but only for the first user to log in. When I look at the permissions for the mounted share that this creates I see that it is owned by 'User1'. When User2 logs in they cant access the share due to a lack of permissions, so when they start up the shared iTunes it complains that it cant see any of the media files!
Does anyone know  a way to create a mount using autofs that can be mounted by multiple users and give all of them the permission to read/write to it?

Niel's instructions don't cover you 100%.  You want to keep things on a different drive and there won't be a "shared" folder there. That's only on your main drive.  You also have to migrate media and/or your library to a different drive using a special process or you will end up breaking all your music links.
You need to clearly state what you want to share.  You can share just media or you can share your whole library structure.  Sharing only media is safest but if you share a common media pool you will all have to keep each other appraised of additions (and deletions, because those too will affect everybody) from the pool.  You have to be pretty trusting and coordinated on this.  Alternatively you can make it so others can copy your media but you will each have your own copy of the file so if somebody else wants to change the name on a track it doesn't do it to the copy you use too.  Of course this takes up the most space but is the safest.  Which migration procedure to do will depend upon your answers to this section.
Finally, I hope you have a backup plan implemented on this.  Nobody will be happy when that external drive fails and it all disappears.

  • How to create a new user without any sample objects from any other user?

    Question as the title.
I had the example dababase installed when I installed the Oracle database.
Every time, when I create a new user, there will be some example objects coming
    with the new user.
How can I remove these objects from the new user?
Or, how can I create a new user without the example objects?
    Thanks in advance.

I think the easiest way for you would be to use OEM.
Just locate each object that you want to remove and right click->remove. Don't bother doing this for any indexes as these will be removed when you drop the corresponding tables.
If you want to try command line through sqlplus then identify the objects you want to remove by selecting from the user_objects view while logged in as this user. This will give you the name and type of object. Then issue the relevant drop command.
It's probably worth making sure you have a valid backup first, just in case things go wrong!

  • [Solved]Can't mount external hdd at boot!

    Hi!
I'm trying to mount my new external hdd (Lacie USB2) at boot, but without success.
To avoid random device name (sdx, sdy), I would like to use UUID in my fstab file.

    Hi,
    Thanks for your reply.
But even with /dev/disk/by-uuid/6853-5BA9 in my fstab file, it fails to automount it.
It says "Special device with UUID=6853-5BA9 does not exist".
The weird thing is that I can mount it manually without problems.
(In fact, that's not true, I've the same problem than steven.  May it be a kernel-related problem?)
Or maybe there's a fault in the rest of my fstab line? (iocharset, guid, etc?)
In the case of a kernel related bug, how could I downgrade it?
I've tried with "pacman -U kernel26-2.6.21.6-1.pkg.tar.gz" in /var/cache/pacman/pkg but it broke my xorg server at reboot.
