Can't save as in Excel 2013

After working in an existing file in Excel 2013 once in a while a user can't save as a new name. He goes on File and Save as....he can put a new name but when he clicks on Save it does nothing.

Hi,
Thanks for your response. I suppose this issue may be caused by the Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE), please try to turn off the "Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)“ setting.
Click the File tab, and then click Options.
Click Advanced, scroll down to the General section, and then clear the Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) check box in the General area.
Click OK.
If this issue still exists, as I have mentioned above, it might be caused by the user profile corrupted. Do you mind creating a new user account/profile to test? It'll help us narrow down this issue whether it is due to Excel or user profile.

George Zhao

  • Block SaveAs Panel in Excel 2013

    Hi All,
I have used the following script for several years now, but on porting something across to Excel 2013 it no longer works as desired and the SaveAs Panel opens regardless.
    The script I use is:
Private Sub Workbook_BeforeSave(ByVal SaveAsUI As Boolean, Cancel As Boolean)
    Dim strMsgBoxTitle As String
    Dim strMsgBoxBody As String
    Dim vbvMsgBoxStyle As VbMsgBoxStyle
    Dim vbvMsgBoxResult As VbMsgBoxResult
    If UserClass = 3 Then
    strMsgBoxTitle = "ProjectCalc"
strMsgBoxBody = "Save as new version?"
    vbvMsgBoxStyle = vbYesNo + vbQuestion + vbDefaultButton2
    vbvMsgBoxResult = MsgBox(strMsgBoxBody, vbvMsgBoxStyle, strMsgBoxTitle)
    If vbvMsgBoxResult = vbYes Then
    Application.Run "ResetForNewVersion"
    Else
    GoTo SaveProject
    End If
    Else
    GoTo SaveProject
    End If
    Exit Sub
    SaveProject:
    ThisWorkbook.Saved = True
    Cancel = True
    Application.Run "SaveProject", 1
    End Sub
Before the MsgBox appears, the SaveAs panel now opens in 2013 as per the screen grab below.  It makes no difference if I move the "Cancel = True" to the top or even pull the SaveAsUI = False command out of the "SaveProject" Sub and
put this as line one in this sub either.  The SaveAs Panel still opens.
This is a file that's opened from a template ".XLTM"
Once you select any random location to save, the scripts take over and takes the user to the correct directory regardless of what they choose, so they end up wasting time browsing through to a directory only then to find that the system has
    taken them somewhere else regardless.
I've searched here for the solution, I've Googled for the solution and everyone is using the solution I already have in place.  Only it no longer works as the panel appears to activate before the BeforeSave function.
    Help please!

    Hi Antony,
I can reproduce this issue in *.xltm file by using the code you post. Based on my understanding, the end user will usually use the ".xlsm" file, and as I tested, this issue did not exist in the ".xlsm" file. So I think you could use ".xlsm"
    file as a quick workaround.
Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for your understanding.
    Best Regards,
    Edward

  • How can i save data in Excel

    Hi,
I want to save data in Excel? But how?
Can somebody send me a VI?
    Thank you

If you want to do excel formatting and really have full functionality in Excel without having to buy the reports toolkit, you can use the Excel ActiveX controls. If you have Excel installed you can use ActiveX references to do anything you want excel to do for you. Use an automation reference and select the Excel class. I forget what its called, but you should be able to find what does what without too much problem. You just use methods from the reference. It takes a bit of work to figure out what everything does, but I have written huge formatting vi's that open excel, format cells, run macros, and save files in excel and then close excel when its done. It all depends on how fancy you want to get.

Any help on this error would be highly appreciated

    Hi,
Based on my research, this behavior can occur under any of the following conditions:
You save an Excel file to a network drive where you have restricted permissions.
You save an Excel file to a location that does not have sufficient drive space.
The connection to the Excel file has been lost.
There is a conflict with an antivirus software program.
You save an Excel file that is shared.
The 218-character path limitation has been exceeded when you save an Excel file.
The Transition Formula Evaluation feature is turned on in Excel.
The file was created from a template that contains embedded objects.

I've used this file for over a month, and it was working fine until today.

I cannot save, or use excel files, just view them.  I cannot even open up the "file" button in an excel sheet, or use macros or anything that should work.  I shut down my computer this morning, and started it up an hour later, and now the sheet
    won't work.
Is this because of an update microsoft just put out?  If so, how can I disable it?

  • Can't Save Microsoft Word & Excel for MAC files

Has anyone encounter the software bug that prevent you from saving Microsoft for Word .doc and Excel workbook files to a USB drive attached to the Airport Extreme. After numerous conversations with level 2 technical support and a visit to the Apple Store where we recreated the problem with different Apple components, they confirmed there is a bug in their Airport Extreme Disk utility software. If you run into this problem, here is the solution:
Under the Apple icon, select Go, Connect to Server. Under the drive address, type smb://10.0.1.1 This solves the problem. Delete the Airport Disk utility software from the startup program list and add the network drive associated with the smb server address into the startup file to automatically attach to the network when you log in.

This is a well known issue and has been discussed in several threads. Here are a few:
MS Word can't save to Airport Disk
MS Word doesn't want to save docs to Airport Extreme connected HD
Problems saving excel doc on USB AirPort disk
Saving to external HD on USB

  • SBS 2011 GPO for changing the default save location for Word/Excel 2013 not working

So this is a strange one. I've got an SBS 2011 server that's the only domain controller in the org. I've created a GPO to change the default save location for Excel 2013 and Word 2013 using the Office 2013 ADMX files which were installed to the PolicyDefinitions
    folder.
The GPO (U-Office2013 Default Save Location) only contains:
    1. User Configuration - Microsoft Excel 2013/Excel Options/Save - Default file location - Enabled - Z:\
    2. User Configuration - Microsoft Word 2013/Word Options/Advanced/File Locations - Default file location - Enabled - Z:\
The GPO is linked at the OU that contains my users for my SBS organization.
When I do a gpupdate /force on a windows 7 system with office2013 installed, and then run a gpresult/rsop, the policy appears to be applied successfully as it lists my GPO under the Applied GPOs list on the workstation:
    Applied GPOs
Default Domain Policy dyndns.local AD (24), Sysvol (24)
    U-Office2013 Default Save Location domain.local/SBSusers AD (6), Sysvol (6)
In the gpresult report, the applied settings appear under:
    Administrative Templates
    Extra Registry Settings
    software\policies\microsoft\office\15.0\excel\options\defaultpath Z:\ U-Office2013 Default Save Location
    software\policies\microsoft\office\15.0\word\options\doc-path Z:\ U-Office2013 Default Save Location
BUT, when I go to the workstation, and check office->options-Save-default file path, the path has not been changed to what the GPO is pushing.
The strange thing is that in my test environment running 2008R2 server and Win7 with Office 2013 and identical settings the default save location is applied and works as expected.
    Any ideas?
I've already tried re-installing the ADMX templates and re-created the GPO's several times.
I should also note that other GPO's on the SBS2011 server such as the folder redirection GPO work as expected on the same windows 7 system. It just appears to be an issue with the default save location in office2013 and other Office 2013 related GPOs which
utilize the recently added ADMX template that don't seem to be working for me.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Justin,
Thanks for your reply. I have tried several different user accounts (all have local admin privileges to the workstation) with the same issue. The default save path does not get applied from the GPO to any of the users i've tried. Here's the steps I took
    per your suggestion:
    1. log on as a user who has never logged onto the workstation before.
    2. run gpupdate /force (entered y for yes when prompted to log off).
    3. Log back in as the user and open Office and check the default save path. It has not been changed to match the GPO setting.
    4. Check rsop to see if the policy was applied. Rsop states the gpo was applied successfully.
I have attached the gpsvc.log file from a the session described above. The GPO Guid in question is: {DC3C93EC-7C28-48E9-BA38-FCA1E275A207}. Its common name is: U-Word 2013 Default Save Location. It's only setting is:

  • .xlsm File use from Excel 2013 64bit/Win7 64bit to Excel 2013 32bit/Win8.1 64bit - Component Removed (not API related)

    Work Environment:  Excel 2013 64bit/Win7 64bit
    Home Environment: Excel 2013 32bit/Win8.1 64bit (1 desktop and 1 laptop)
I am developing an an .xlsm file at work (with Lists and a single form with controls linked to a worksheet ControlSource). It works and saves all day long just fine in my work environment. I save the file to either a USB drive (or DropBox - makes no difference)
and then open the file on my home computer. I can open the file the first time with no problem and with no error messages. But then when I try to save the file Excel 2013 32bit most often tells me that it has removed a component. But it doesn't tell which
component it has removed. After that, if I close the file and try to reopen it, it won't reopen. I get a series of error message: [1] file path errors (error 75) [2] Excel has stopped working errors. [3] Excel hasn't enough memory to complete the operation,
[4] Excel will close. So I click the close button on the last error message and Excel disappears. I say disappears, because its not really gone. Mind you, its not listed in the Task Manager at this point. But, if I then click the Windows Taskbar icon to start
Excel, Excel will sometimes automatically open up with the file that I was trying to open before, already up and running, i.e. I do not select the file to open it - it just appears. Other time Excel just repeats the series of error messages noted above.
The strange part is, once this file has been corrupted, I can still take it back to my work environment, fire it up on my work computer, and it works just fine. No error messages, no saving problems.
I have totally uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2013 (HUP Click to Run) on both my home computers and it makes no difference.
I can say though, this is driving me nuts. Anyone have any suggestions or ideas?
    phillfri

I think I solved the issue.
Step 1: Moved all my code from the Worksheet_Open event to the Auto_Open Macro.
Result: File would open from inside Excel but when opening by clicking on the file in Windows explorer I would get the error msg "There was a problem sending a command to the program."
Step 2: Apply FixIt 20074. Note that to get this FixIt to work in Windows 8.1 you MUST save the FixIt file to your desktop and run it from there. If you follow the instructions on the FixIt page - download and run - you will get the error msg "This Fixit
does not apply because the computer does not have the expected software (Excel.exe)."
Excel 2013 definitely seems to have some bugs when starting a macro enabled file. I have seen other comments on the internet about the Excel workbook_open event actually failing to run all the VBA commands that are put into it.
    Environments:
    [1] Home: Microsoft HUP Click-n-Run Office Professional 2013; Windows 8.1, 64 bit; Excel 2013, 32 bit.
[2] Work: Enterprise Microsoft Office Professional 2013; Windows 7, 64 bit; Excel 2013, 64 bit.

  • Help, PowerPivot in Excel 2013 is missing

    hi
I recently change excel 2013 preview to excel profesional 2013 but PowerPivot is missing, what do I have to do, It`s not in the COM add-ins list, I tried too many ways, somebody can help me.

    Check this out - :(

    Update
Find below the excerpt from MSFT employee
    "Hi all,
We understand that this puts those of you who have less than ProPlus in a bad position where your previous Excel 2010 workbooks are concerned. You can't use them in Excel 2013 without updating the data model, and you can't update the data model without the
add-in. If you know someone with ProPlus or an Enterprise SKU, you can always ask them to update the workbook and save it in 2013. From there, you should be able to use it.
For basic PowerPivot functionality, you don't need the add-in. So you can also recreate your PivotTables in Excel 2013 using the new data model. The key is to select "Add this data to the data model" when you create the pivottable from one of your
data sources. Then you can import other tables, and use the "All" tab on the field list to add the other information. On either the Data tab or the PivotTable tools Analyze tab, you can create the relationships you need.
    Hope this helps!
    Anita"

  • Losing formatting when Share/Un-share Excel 2013

    Hello all
    We're using Excel 2013 on Windows 8 32 bit.
We are having major concerns with the formatting of these files. It’s sort of hard to explain but we get it all set the way we want it and then if we share or un-share it we lose all our formatting.

    Hi,
Did this issue occurred with a particular file? Which type of formatting did lost? Generally speaking, If we are saving it in the older Excel 97-2003 format, then it is possible that the losses you are seeing are due to the formatting not being supported
in the older format. This is particularly true with colors and conditional formatting. Please try to save it as Excel 2013 format.
If this issue still exists, do you mind sending us a sample file? Email:
[email protected]? So I can test it from my side. Please use thread link or the subject of this post as mail subject.

  • Excel 2013 hangs on opening a file on network

    Hello,
I have a user that is having problems opening some Excel files(.xlsx) from a specific folder on the network. I can open them fine with Excel 2013 and others can as well, even at the user's location which is off-site from the main building. These files are
about 2.5 to 3.5Mb in size. I could open a 62Kb file on the persons computer but the larger files Excel just sits there with the spinning cursor and the program window 'blinks', kind of like when you make it the active window then click somewhere else then
back. I can go up one level then into a different folder and have no issues opening Excel files there. I've tried opening through Safe Mode but it has the same behavior, performed a repair on Office as well as an Open and Repair on the file, made sure it was
a trusted location  and disabled hardware acceleration. Nothing is working. What else can I try to troubleshoot this issue?
On a side note and I'm not sure if this is helpful but when they tried opening the file, I never saw the temp file created like I do when you open any Office document.

I tried both and at first the xlsb file was hanging but I logged off to try other things under my account then logged back on again and it opened though pretty slow. I tried from my account as well and it is very slow but does eventually open. Under the
users account I copied the file to her desktop and it opens with no problem. The permissions are the same on all similar level folders yet the user can open Excel files from them with no problem and even larger than the problem files.
Edit: My mistake, the green progress bar happens on other folders as well. Talking with one of the senior IT who installed the system, this user is the last person of a chain from microwave>switch and fiber link>another switch and fiber link so just
may be a physical issue though from my experience the one folder 'seems' to have the most trouble in opening the Excel files.
Also tried disconnecting the network drive then reclogging to let the scripts recreate it. No luck with that approach either.

Users are unable to save files using Excel 2013 (both .xls and .xlsx) to network share space. the return is "Someone else is working on 'J:\network space name\filename' right now. Please try again later". There are no other users
currently using the file in question and Folder and file ACL allows for full control. Users are able to save to their persistent D:\ volume (we are using VMware) but unable to breach the network space. I have full administrative rights and am experiencing
the same results, this includes a newly created file, files for which I have total ownership and files for which i have full control over. This condition is only true for Excel 2013, Office and other Suite applications are functioning well within tolerance.
This condition originally manifested when we first rolled out the MSFT Office 2013 image but subsided when we modified Trend Micro so that it would not scan edited files. After that it would only manifest occasionally and to single or a couple of users but
has now returned to being global. Any ideas as to how to remedy this would be greatly appreciated.

The blog post speaks to an error message that is not what my users are seeing. There is no reference to files being 'locked', rather it suggests that another user may be viewing the same file precluding a save action. Initially we believed it was related
to an issue caused by .TMP files but as it turned out a refresh of AV baseline policy relieved the condition. So it may have been a cache issue and how the AV was handling the temporary file but details behind causality could not be determined beyond refreshing
    the base policy.
Thank you for your suggestion though, I appreciate the consideration.

But my users can allways save data in Excel files...
    What's wrong ?
        Thank you

    Hi,
Following solution might help you to resolve the issue.
In BusinessObjects Enterprise XI, users can save Web Intelligence reports as portable document format (PDF), Excel, comma-separated value (CSV), and other formats to their local computer. It is necessary to restrict this right for a group of users by disabling the Save As option.
    Resolution
    Here are the steps:
Log on to the Central Management Console as administrator.
Click Folder > folder containing report > Rights tab > Add/Remove.
Add the appropriate group. Click OK. The User Folders window appears.
Click Advanced in the Net Access Column.
Clear the <group name> will inherit rights from its parent groups option.
Clear the <folder name> will inherit rights from its parent folders option.
Expand the Web Intelligence Document section.
Click the Explicitly Denied option for the right to Export the report"s data.
    Click Apply > OK.
When the Web Intelligence report is opened, the users will no longer see the Save As option.

  • Can I save data in a snapshot from signal express 2013 LE?

Can I save data (in txt or excel format) from a snapshot from signal express 2013 LE?  My data buffer is too larege to export to excel.  When I try to take a snapshot, I do not see any data.  Are snapshots supported in the LE mode?  This is the free version that comes with the USB 6009 ADC.

Yes, the snapshot function is available for SignalExpress 2013 LE. Does the snapshot function as intended when you try other projects?
