Was scolling thru authors when screen locked up and now cannot do anything within iBooks. I can't scroll, when I tap the screen nothing happens. The problem is only with iBooks.

You can delete iBooks and re-download a fresh app, if you have the books on your sync computer.
    This fixed mine.

  • PDF form text fields' options change when opened in READER on a MAC.

I created a PDF form using Adobe X PRO. All fields are UNCHECKED for Property/Options/ "scroll long text". I save and distribute the form as a "reader extended pdf/enable additional features" so it can be saved and returned using READER.
When a Mac user opens the extended form in Adobe READER, ALL the text fields change to scroll. When he returns the completed form to me, every text field, even signature and date fields, are changed to scroll text.
What is happening in the transition from PC to MAC?

Preview is the default PDF viewer on the Mac. It should never be used with PDF forms. Just let them know that they should use Adobe Reader. Provide a link or URL where it can be downloaded and let them know that it's free.
There are things you can do so that it doesn't work in Preview, but it involves some scripting. If interested in this approach, post again.

  • When a single-page form expands to more than one page, can you reference the new individual "pages" that have been created by the expanding table?

Don't think this is possible but would love to be wrong.
    Bullet Points:
    1) In my demo form (simple hierarchy: form1.page1.table1.row1), 8 occurrences  (instance "0" through instance "7") of the repeating row1 can be visible
before it causes a page break and adds another "page".  No issues there.
    2) I'm thinking about trying to control the end-users navigation abilities to only on-screen "previous page" and "next page" buttons.
(So no scrolling from page to page; keep them where we want them.) Only way I can see making this work is if the form is designed
and coded to only allow one page to be visible at a time --- nesting things correctly in a parent object then hide all necessary subforms
and only make the appropriate subform visible.
    3) But when working with tables,  when occurrence 9 gets added (aka instance 8), it triggers an on screen "Page 2" to be added.
End user can now scroll between Page 1 and Page 2.
    4) Once Page 2 has been added, is there a way to reference Page 1 (as we see it on screen) and set it to be hidden?
    5) Is what we are seeing on screen as "Page 1" and "Page 2"  actually this.resolveNode("page1[0]") and this.resolveNode("page1[1]") ?
Tried messing around with referencing it this way but didn't seem to work.  Maybe I had a typo but if we never set the subform named "page1"
to allow multiple instances, I'm guessing it's not referenced this way.
Any thoughts would be great.  Thanks so much to this community.

If you're looking at learning a bit more about database design (looking at your description of what you've done in creating a separate table for each category of item sold sounds like you're approaching it as though it was a flat-file rather than a relational database), there's a few books that I could direct you to:
    Beginning Database Design (ISBN 978-1590597699)
Database Design for Mere Mortals (ISBN 978-0201694710)
    Databases Demystified (ISBN 978-0072253641)
Absolute Beginner's Guide to Databases (ISBN 978-0789725691)
I've also got an older book that's always sitting by my desk called Dreamweaver MX Databases (ISBN 978-0782141481), which I still reference regularly - chapter 3 on coding practices and chapter 5 on database design provide very good overviews of the subject.
There's also a Database Development for Dummies, but I'm not a huge fan of the series where they're tackling technical subjects.
Without knowing the data you're modeling, it's quite difficult to make generalisations, but I'd probably be looking at a single table called 'Product' (which contains all the product records), and which had in it a boolean for 'new item' and for 'on sale' (you could then use SQL to filter out new and/or sale items when you create your recordset). I'd then have a look up table called 'Categories' which held the values 'necklace', 'handbag', 'belt', and 'purse' which the Product table could then reference to identify.
Breaking your data down into a logical structure like this is called 'normalisation' (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Database_normalization) - although it's a bit technical. There's a simpler practical explanation of a similar query to yours at TechRepublic (http://articles.techrepublic.com.com/5100-10878_11-5288500.html), which uses MS Access, but don't worry about that as it's teaching a concept which is applicable no matter what the database server.

  • Acrobat crashes when I try to read forms

I created an intake form for my clients to complete on their computers and email back to me. Two have completed the forms and sent the back to me - but the text runs off the page as one long sentence rather than wrapping inside the text boxes I inserted. When I click on the + sign to expand the boxes and read the full responses, the document crashes and closes.
    Acrobat XI Pro for Mac
Original document created in Word, turned into a PDF, text boxes inserted into the document, saved as a PDF, emailed to the clients.
I tested the text fields before I sent them, and they seemed to work just fine on my computer. Don't know what the problem is. Its the weekend, tech support is closed, and I need to read one of these documents by tomorrow.
    Anyone know what's going on?

I figured it out. If anyone else has this problem, here's what you do:
When you first create a fillable form text box, you need to right click the box, click on PROPERTIES and select MULTI-LINE instead of SCROLL LONG TEXT. If your document has not been signed, you can go back and edit each fillable form text box so you can read the text.
    Open the document
Click on TOOLS at the top of the page - this opens up a menu.
Click on FORMS, then EDIT. Now you can right-click in whichever box you need to adjust
    Click on PROPERTIES, select OPTIONS
Check the box next to MULTI-LINE and uncheck SCROLL LONG TEXT
Repeat for whichever fillable text boxes need to be adjusted
    Save the document
    You're done
If your document has been signed, you can't alter it. You have to go into each text box, copy the text by highlighting it all, and paste it into another document so you can read it all.
    Hope this helps someone.

  • I am trying to create a form in acrobat pro 8 and it can't be filled in in reader 9

When I open the form in reader, it says it is a pdf/a file.and the form fields do not show up unless I go to edit/preferences in reader and tell it to never view documents in pfd/a mode.  I am putting this document on my website for users to fill out, and don't want them to have to do that.  How do I create the form that is not a pdf/a document?  I have been messing around with this for a day and have not been successfull.  I have an old document from last year that apparently is not a pdf/a document and it works fine.  I cannot make this year's document open correctly in reader 9.  http://www.houseofsweden.us/docs/DecNightsSignUps2009.pdf  This is a very simple form created from a word document.

When originally creating the pdf, you would need to choose another pdf conversion setting. In Word if you use the pdf menu, change your settings there: Adobe PDF > Change Conversion Settings. I would use High Quality Print instead. If you use the File > Print method, click the Properties button next to the Adobe PDF printer selection.
For your already created form, you can change the file so your users will not encounter issues. In Acrobat 9, which hopefully is similar in process to 8: Advanced > Preflight > Profile tab > PDF/A compliance > Remove PDF/A information.(You'll have to unsecure your form first).
You can read about PDF/A files in the Help.

It's the .lrdata folder in with your catalog, named something like "My Catalog Previews.lrdata".
Delete entire .lrdata folder, making sure you get the one in the same folder as the catalog you're opening. Do not delete anything else, and if you have something like "My Catalog Smart Previews.lrdata" - that's not it.

When Lr comes up, consider initiating whole-catalog building of standard previews (Library -> Previews menu), lest you be "forever" greeted by temporarily gray thumbnails and "loupe loading" indicator in the future..

  • When filling out a form, some fields copy to others when I tab to the next. How can I make this stop?

When filling out a form, some fields copy to others when I tab to the next. How can I make this stop?

You can't using Adobe Reader. It looks like whomever created the form used the same identifiers (names) for various fields. Each field with the same name will populate with the information used in another field of the same name. This is intentional.
Normally when I see this, it tells me that someone created an initial field then copy/pasted it to make additional fields but forgot to change the names.

  • How can I save my fillable form so that when I share my form with other people they are able to save the fillable version of the form?

I made a fillable form in Adobe Live Cycle - The problem I'm having is that when I share the form with someone they are unable to save the fillable version of the form once information has been put in - I need them to be able to save the fillable form so that when we need to make changes in the future that we don't need to fill out the entire form again.

Firefox 4 saves the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.
You can use "Firefox > History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session.<br />
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default <b>about:home</b> Home page.
    Another possibility is to use:
    * [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Menu_differences Firefox (Tools) > Options] > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

  • Reader-enabled form from Acrobat is retaining interactive form fields when user saves the form

This is an issue that has only recently come up. In the past it was not a problem to take a pdf, add interactive form fields to it in LiveCycle, then open the form in Acrobat and enable usage rights for Reader users.
This allowed Reader users to fill out the form and save the results. With the most recent versions of Acrobat and Reader the user saves the form and the data AND the interactive form fields are saved in the resulting file - meaning that the data is still there to be changed. Clearly not what we want and not what Acrobat and Reader were doing previously.
The form does properly display "You can save data typed in this form" when opened in Reader.
I have got no response to this issue in the LiveCycle forum, and nothing shows up in a search. I would very much like to fix this, as it is affecting our entire library of pdf forms.

In most instances the form is linked on the website, so the original form will cannot be overwritten.
In some cases we have to supply an interactive pdf for a department that they will then distribute by email to various groups who are expected to fill the form out on submit on an ongoing basis. That is what I was meaning by the user filling out the form, printing it, and then being prompted to save changes.
The bigger issue is that most of our users expect to take a form hosted on the website, fill it out, and then save a pdf copy of their responses for reference. The reference copy is retaining the interactive fields rather than printing as a static pdf.
If I could force the action of printing as a pdf (rather than saving as a pdf) on submission I think that would solve the issue. The script for most of the forms in the library is xfa.host.print(1, "0", (xfa.host.numPages -1).toString(), 0, 0, 0, 0, 0); and I am not aware of a way to force the print to only be to the pdf print driver.

  • When will Adobe Reader for iOS support Livecycle XFA forms?

Adobe Reader for iOS currently does not appear to support XFA forms created through Livecycle. Although it supports some field types, the HTTP submit and Email submit buttons don't work.
Being able to email the completed form ready for someone else to submit would be a work around, however when attempting to 'share' a completed form and send it by email the form is blank when saved and opened in the desktop version of Adobe Reader on a PC.
We are getting more and more requests from ipad users who wish to use our forms, and it seems that some other paid-for apps claim to support this. Seeing as Adobe Reader is the industry standard product for using PDFs could we have more support for pdf forms please?
...or at the very least, a product roadmap with some dates for when this might be available please?

There are two basic varieties of LiveCycle XFA...Static XFA and Dynamic XFA, which are very different in terms of their future for potential support in Adobe Reader for iOS. Which variety of XFA are you using?
Static XFA uses the PDF markup language for content and form fields, so users can view the documents in Adobe Reader for iOS, but we currently do not properly handle filling, saving, and submitting those forms. I have improving our handling of Static XFA on my roadmap, but cannot offer any specific date yet (sorry, policy plus actual uncertainty). I know that there are some other apps that partially support Static XFA, though I do not know how complete their support is. If you can even open the XFA document in Adobe Reader for iOS, it is likely Static XFA.
Dynamic XFA is effectively a JavaScript application packaged inside a PDF wrapper, which generates layout and form fields via code and requires a significant engine to support this. Support for Dynamic XFA is unfortunately not currently on our roadmap for iOS due to the nature of the technology, and our concern that any implementation we try likely will not pass Apple's restriction against installing something that allows other "apps" to be downloaded and executed from within it. The LiveCycle team is exploring solutions for our enterprise customers wanting to use Dynamic XFA from mobile devices as part of their server offering, but I cannot offer any insight here. To my knowledge, there are no applications that handle Dynamic XFA other than Adobe Reader for the desktop platforms (Windows, Mac, Linux).

    Caro Fabiano,
    Atentamente,

Help! We have a form with more than 200 entries and when I looked at it yesterday it had one! When you download the form to excel they all show up. However, when I added another record today it disappeared. Can you tell me what's happening? I've been using adobe forms for 2 years with mass response feedback and have never had this problem.

    Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.
