Can't see SLES server joined to domain

Hi all: I am a domain membership on SLES newbee and I need some help with getting an SLES server working properly with our domain. The server I need help with was recently rebuilt from OES 11 to SLES 11 due to zenworks incompatibility. I still need to be able to access this server's storage over the network. When I browse the network from my Windows 7 computer the server does not show up and I cannot reach the server via \\servername. The server is in our DNS database.
So I joined the server to our domain successfully. I used the newer style domain notation rather than windows 2000/NT notation. I can see the server in now a member of the domain by looking at the domain members on one of our DCs. I have not enabled any other features such as "Also use SMB information for Linux Authentication" and "All users to share their directories". NTP is configured and operating. The server does verify that it is a domain member. Under Samba configuration I have set the domain using the older style domain notation. It is not a DC controller. I have also set the NETBIOS name.
I would appreciate some help understanding what I did wrong and what I need to do to correct this. BTW, I tried this once before on a test server and it worked well. Not sure what I did different.
Thanks for the help, Chris.

DSfW does not apply as you pointed out, and I don't believe I was referencing that component. I need this SLES 11 SP3 server to be visible to some of my users. I want to share a directory named "storage" and I need it so that they can authenticate via AD rather than adding all these users as onto the SLES box. My users also need to be able to browse to the server using Windows Explorer or get to it via \\server.
So in YAST2 I can set up samba but I can also join the domain. This is where I am getting confused and setting something incorrectly.

Reading the above am I right in thinking that your server is not running
OES11 but instead "regular" SLES11? If so, where does Domain Services
for Windows (a component of OES11) fit in to the above?
HTH.

  • VPN Connected but can not see folders / server

    I have established a connection between an OSX server and client but now can not see the server or any services on the client.  There are no servers listed in the 'Network' section of finder and using 'Connect to server' I can not see it either. The log on the server shows the connection and the client does as well but other than that I can not do anything with the connection.

  • Why can't  see the configArchive  directory in domain ?

    hi,everyone,
    I have constructed some wls domain such domain-a,domain-b,domain-c using the same configure wizard of wls8.1sp2,and
    found one strange thing:
    after running several weeks,within domain-a ,i found domian-a/configArchive directory ,but can't find it in
    domain-b and domain-c ,for all three domains, i have changed the domain config and setup the Administration Server
    archives up to 10 previous versions of config.xml(In the domain Configuration->General tab:Archive Configuration Count
    box,).
    according to WLS8.12 docuement ,when change the domain configuration, the wls server will backup configure.xml to
    domain-name/configArchive directory.
    My question is : why some domain don't create configArchive directory and others can do it automatic ? Need i
    create configArchive directory manually or do other things ?
    thanks a lot.
    Great Lou

    Gopal,thanks a lot.
    I am using weblogic8.1sp2 also. I just changed item "Enable SSL Port" ,and found that configArchive directory
    was created.
    This really made me confusing :My domains are running in product environment for long time,I had changed some
    domain configure to tuning performance ,some change made by directly edit config.xml,others made by weblogic
    console, but I can't see configArchive directory until today.
    Anyway ,now config.xml-backup works normal,Let it be...

    Lou,
    Thats right. If the changes you do through weblogic console modifies config.xml, then config.xml should automatically be archived in configArchive directory.
    What version of weblogic you are on ? We are using weblogic 81sp2 which works as mentioned in the documentation.

  • Can't see Exchange Server after installation

    I know it must be simple, but after installation of Exchange Server 2013 on Server 2012 R2 and getting the "successful" installation message, I can't find the server. It was not problem on Server 2008 and Exchange 2010.
    Any ideas as to where I should go to look for Exchange?  I can't even setup mailboxes???!!!
    I really am lost on this one.

    Hello,
    In addition to above: make sure that Exchange 2013 is installed correctly. Check Exchange installation logs and run the Get-ExchangeServer command using Exchange Management Shell on the new server. You should see both Exchange 2010 and Exchange 2013 servers.
    Hope it helps,

  • Can anyone suggest why Dev Studio can't see the server engine

    We have NW2004s/SP08 installed.  The server J2EE engine runs fine and one can log into the server and succssfully deploy jar's directly to it.
    We also have Dev Studio installed on a desktop and it works fine.  We have our J2EE preferences set using the actual IP address of the server J2EE engine and port number 3061. (We can ping this IP address successfully.)
    When we try to do a Deploy/Run from Dev Studio and monitor this attempt on the server side, we can see Dev Studio trying to connect.
    But it doesn't connect.  In Dev Studio, we just get a message saying "sdmhost empty or unknown".
    What's missing in our config? It was set up for us by externals no longer here.  Since we can successfully ping the IP of the server from the PC, and since we can see DevStudio trying to connect, it can't be a network connectivity problem.
    Thanks for any suggestions as to where to look/what to do.

    Pascal -
    I am indebted to you for your kindness in taking the time to answer such a trivial question.
    I assume that because the client is now asking me for the SDM password, your solution is correct.  (It didn't ask me for a password before - I just got the error message.)
    So I've tagged your reply for 10, even though I don't know the password so can't completely confirm yet.
    I'll cycle back and confirm once I have the password.
    Thanks very much again.

  • Can't see BlazeDS server side log

    Hi,
    I'm running JBoss 5 EAP and BlazeDS 3. I don't see any server side log for BlazeDS even though I followed BlazeDS documentation. Following is the logging section in my services-config.xml:
        <logging>
            <target class="flex.messaging.log.ServletLogTarget" level="All">
                <properties>

                    <pattern>Configuration</pattern>
                </filters>
            </target>

    According to the documentation, I should see log entries for BlazeDS in JBoss server log. But I didn't. Can anyone help me out with this issue?

  • Can't see a server in Finder's Network view

    Hi,
    In the Network view of the Finder, my G4 (10.4.3) on the LAN can see my eMac (10.4.4), also on the LAN. My PowerBook (10.4.4, wireless) can see the G4, but cannot see the eMac. I can, however, connect to the eMac from the PB by entering the IP address directly in the Connect to Server dialog. Any reason this might be?
    I can see the PB from the eMac.
    On both the G4 and the eMac I have to go via the Network > My Network icon to see available servers. On the PB, I have no My Network icon - the G4 appears as soon as I click on Network.
    Is it likely to be a wireless problem, or a preferences problem, or a 10.4.4 problem? I've had problems similar to this before which were fixed by switching various options in the Directory Access utility. No joy this time.
    I can supply more details if required (I'll save space for now!). It's not a simple network...

  • I can't see sql server express 2012 from ssms 2008 R2 -- what do I need to download?

    I'm running sql server 2008 R2 Developer on a win7 (pro) workstation.   I would like to keep this installation because it has SSRS and Analysis Server. But I was not able to attach a sql 2012 DB so I downloaded Sql Server Express 2012 (per the
    picture below - 1st option selected) and installed it.   Sql Server Express 2012 appears to be running -- per my services list, but I cannot see the instance in ssms 2008 R2. Do I need to uninstall Sql Server Express 2012 and then download another
    option (from the picture below)? How should I proceed so that I can have a working/workable instance of Sql Server Express 2012 that I can see in ssms (whatever required version) and also keep sql server 2008 R2?  which download should I select (from
    the picture below?

    Should I uninstall Sql server 2012 first?
    Rich P
    No you do not need to uninstall any thing
    >> Sql Server Express 2012 appears to be running -- per my services list, but I cannot see the instance in ssms 2008 R2.
    You need to just download SQL Server 2012 express management studio and use that to connect to SQL Server 2012. And use SSMS 2008 r2 to connect to SQL Server 2008 r2.
    This File :ENU\x64\SQLManagementStudio_x64_ENU.exe
    Although I guess SSMS 2012 express with SP2 would work just fine and you would connect to 2008 R2 database using that.

  • Can't see Samba Server in network browse

    Hi there,
    I have been trying stuff for hours, now I think it's time to ask someone:
    I have a samba server with a static ip (netctl).
    I can ping the server, ssh to it, smbclient -L is working and also in Nautilus if I use the 'Connect to Server' option everything works fine.
    But when I try to 'Browse Network' I only see the Workgroup but when I want to access the Workgroup after some time of wait I get 'Unable to access location Failed to retrieve share list from server: No route to host'.
    Also if I stop using static ip with netctl and use dhcpcd 'Browse Network' starts working...
    I really don't see whats the problem, does someone else?
    Here is my netctl profile:
    Description='A basic static ethernet connection'

  • Can't log into computer joined to domain "Corp" when connected to a different network where the domain is also "Corp"

    My company uses the prefix "Corp" for their Active Directory domain. The domain is Corp.Company1.com, so when I log into the computer I log into it as Corp\Username.
    Here is the issue I am facing: I often take my laptop to another company site (Lets call them Company2) which has been acquired by Company1. When I plug my Company1.com computer into Company2's network and try to log in to Corp\Username, I get a username or
    bad password error because it is trying to log into Corp.Company2.com instead of Corp.Company1.com.
    I have a large number of users who are going to start working at Company2 sites but using Company1 computers. Until these domains are joined (I consider that a separate issue), what workarounds might I be able to use to allow users to log onto their laptops
    without having to unplug from the Company2 network?

    have your users loging using the fqdn of the domain, that will probably work just fine (provided they can access these dc's or you allow cached logons).

  • Can't connect windows server 2003 with domain account

    I have installed an agent on windows 2003 server successfully but I cannot add domain account as a preferred credential to connect to windows. My OMS is 11g running on RHEL 5 and I am trying to deploy sql server plugin to windows 2003 server. I could deploy the plugin with the same domain account to windows 2008 without any error but for some reason, but I cannot use the same domain account on windows 2003. This domain account is part of administrator group on both 2003 & 2008 servers so I don't know what I need to do different for 2003. Please help me. Thank you.

    Can you provide some more details and/or screenshots?
    I'm not sure exactly what you mean here: "I cannot add domain account as a preferred credential to connect to windows"
    Are you in the Agent preferred credentials page? What is the error?
