Can't send pop email

I've got my gmail account working fine. But I can only receive email using my comcast.net pop mail account. I can not send email. It rejects my email address. Anyone have a fix? Tried asking comcast folks but limited help there. I tried changing the port to 587 and no luck.

I've been searching the discussion boards for days. I purchased my iPhone Friday evening and have struggled with this configuration issue since then. I was able to get my gmail account working immediately. However my Bellsouth account just would not work. I could receive emails, but not send or reply. I was a previous owner of both a Treo 650 and Treo 680 and had been using Bellsouth on those devices without issue. I understood that you need to enable SMTP to send email and had configured the iPhone to use a specific host. Even though I had setup my iPhone to use cwmx.com (Cingular Wireless Mobile Exchange) the iPhone refused to connect to the server. Anyway after days of trying and talking with ATT wireless, ATT DSL (Bellsouth) and Apple I had gotten now where. This evening while searching the discussion boards I happened upon another thread that said they were successful with using cwmx.com. We'll during my last call to ATT/Apple (3 way tech support) I asked the question would it make any sense to delete the account and set it up from scratch. Moment of pause from Apple tech support with the response sure. I deleted the Bellsouth mail account and recreated it.
Incoming Mail server
Host Name: mail.bellsouth.net
Username: your username
password: your password
Outgoing Mail Server
Host Name: cwmx.com
Username: leave empty
password: leave empty
Within a few minutes my eMail started downloading (50 some odd). I was then able to create an email and send. It worked.......
Now all of this was down on the EDGE network and not over Wi-Fi, which I suspect is another hurdle. But, what this means is I can not get email from my Bellsouth account and create or reply to emails on my iPhone.

    I have a problem sending (not receiving) pop email.
    I am connected directly to my ISP (virgin.net, part of virginmedia.com) on adsl – (ie not trying to connect via another isp) - sharing the internet connection wirelessly via a modem/router to 2 Macs (macbooks), a Vista laptop and wiredly to an XP desktop.
    The problem only happens with the Macs, not the Windows machines. One of the Macs is running Tiger with mail 2.1.3, the other Leopard with mail 3.2. Both are affected.
    The problem only arises when trying to send longer messages (a few paragraphs - not MB). There is no problem sending short (one or two word) messages. I'm not sure where the cutoff comes.
    What happens is that the messages are simply timed out, after a lengthy attempt to send. The error message is generally
    ‘The server response was: 4.4.2 omf09.hostedemail.com Error: timeout exceeded ‘
    but sometimes (more recently, perhaps as a result of all the fiddling I describe below)
    ‘An error occurred while delivering this message via the SMTP server "(null)" ‘
    This started on Friday 30th May. That day we woke up to find we were unable to receive email either. Looking at the mail accounts, I saw that the (incoming) authentication had spontaneously(?) changed from "password" to MD5 challenge response. Since returning it to password, we've been able to receive mail on both machines.
    We only noticed the problem with sending a few days later as we hadn’t tried to send any longer messages; so it’s not absolutely certain that it’s related – but it seems likely.
    We can send pop email from our googlemail accounts. We can also use virgin’s webmail with no problems.
    This is what I’ve tried to resolve the problem:
    checked that the server etc settings are configured according to Virgin’s instructions at
    http://www.virginmedia.com/help/email/set-up-pop-email.php#OS_X103
    (on the advice of support there) deleted one of the affected accounts (and also removed the smtp server from the server list) and recreated it. No effect.
    Installed Thunderbird and set up the same account. Same problem there.
    Used Connection Doctor – shows connections to all servers as green
    Rebooted the modem/ router, and both machines
    Repaired permissions
    Nothing seems to help.
    I’ve done all this on the Tiger mac, on the theory that once I find the solution there is will also apply to the Leopard one ie that it’s not a glitch of some recent Leopard update.
    Because the Windows machines (and webmail) work fine, Virgin clearly think that this is simply a Mac problem. I suspect that they have changed something in their setup, as it seems unlikely that it would otherwise affect two Macs running different versions of OSX in the same way.
    I’ve only recently persuaded my wife to switch to a Macbook after her experience of Vista so this is not only annoying but embarrassing!

    I have a Mac and have had the same problem with Virgin – I have been unable to send emails of more than about 300 words, or any replies or attachments, since May 30, the day Virgin “improved” their email services. Receiving emails and using webmail are not affected. Virgin’s helpline has been totally unhelpful, refusing to accept that it has anything to do with them or that some other Mac users are affected in the same way. Their fault team insists it’s a problem with my computer. I have O.S. 10.5.3 Leopard, having just upgraded, but the problem occurred when I was still on O.S. 10.4. Tiger. My email program is Entourage (which Virgin’s helpline hasn’t even heard of!). When the problem first occurred, I wasn’t able to send any emails, but by changing the Accounts advanced settings to what Virgin recommended when I phoned them, I could at least send short emails. (Their announcement of the email changes said, “Don’t worry, you don’t have to do anything.”) Virgin are trying to put a huge spin on this shabby treatment of Mac customers by saying, “We’re doing lots of things to make your experience with us even better” – but with friends like this, who needs enemies?

    To add the BCC field to the message window, create a new message, click the 'three lines' button near the to and from fields & select the 'BCC Address field' or choose the 'customise' option. This button may be a 'gear' on the older OS (I don't recall for 10.6.8 Mail).
    The BCC field is more likely to be limited by the email server than Mail app. If you add hundreds of addresses (or use large groups with many addresses) the email server may assume you are sending spam. Sometimes it causes the server to drop the message or bounce them, different providers also have different rules, so you need to use bcc & ccc with care.
    If you plan on doing mass mailing you would be better with a service that handles it correctly for you (i.e. sends multiple messages without using ccc or bcc).

    Is it really the case that the iPhone is incapable of this?  The mac does it fine and the iPhone goes through the motions but then bails when you hit send, saying it isn't a valid address.
    This really makes no sense.  Isn't this the whole point of iCloud?

    when any user sends a message using contact us page in SharePoint online.
    1. We are inserting item in Contact Us List . - This is working fine
    for anonymous users also. We have used Office365 anonymous codeplex wsp and it is working fine. Anonymous user is able to insert new record in the Contact Us List.
    2. Once, new record is inserted in Contact Us list, we want to fire email notifying thanks to the user on his email id as well as to our company x person for notification of new inquiry. 
    We tried using Workflow having impersonation step for  anonymous user but it is not working for Anonymous users. Workflow is able to sent the email if someone logged into system but not working for Anonymous user although workflow is getting started
    but not able to send email although used Imperonsation step.
    We are stuck into implementing second step.

    You used to be able to do this through leaving unchecked the box in preferences "when sending to a group show all member addresses". However, that feature failed some time ago (two or three years?) and the only way to hide the addresses now is to put the group in the BCC field.

    Your issue has nothing to do with the subject of theis thread. The first thing you should do is to start your own thread. Use a properly descriptive subject line. Explain exactly what you were trying to do, what happened when you tried, what error messages you got and what troubleshooting steps you've already taken (saying "everything" is not useful information).

    Actually i also had changed my gmail password like to the above. Andyour recommendation seems to be the same to rebooting iPod touch, which didn't work for me when i had the same gmail problem with the incorrect password error in the continuous manner. However the problem has gone when i removed the gmail account so as to create the same one.
