Can't set ipv6 static address

As the topic states, I can not setup a static IP to save my life. I've enabled ipv6, I have a hostname6.ce1 I put the hostname (madrid-ipv6) in the hostname6.ce1 file but it will not stay set.
I've tried the addif command, and it creates a logical interface, but I can't ping out with the address that is set.
I'm sure I am missing something, and I am new to Solaris. I've got ipv6 static addresses setup in linux with no problems. It's just Solaris 10 that is kicking my butt.
If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be in your debt.
Thanks!

edit: To darren: I've tried that as well. When the system boots, it gives me the error: "Failed to assign ipv6 address to ce1" or something similar to that.
hmmm, I've tried that, it still doesn't seem to be working. Here is my hostname6.ce1 file:
madrid-ipv6
addif fd01::e2/64 up
this is the output of ifconfig -a6:
bash-3.00# ifconfig -a6
lo0: flags=2002000849<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST,IPv6,VIRTUAL> mtu 8252 index 1

ce1:1: flags=2000841<UP,RUNNING,MULTICAST,IPv6> mtu 1500 index 3
inet6 fd01::e2/64
and this is what I get when I ping fd01::f2:
bash-3.00# ping fd01::f2
ICMPv6 Address Unreachable from gateway fd01::e2
for icmp6 from fd01::e2 to fd01::f2
ICMPv6 Address Unreachable from gateway fd01::e2
for icmp6 from fd01::e2 to fd01::f2
ICMPv6 Address Unreachable from gateway fd01::e2
for icmp6 from fd01::e2 to fd01::f2
I've got to be missing something. This is all on a private switch that doesn't need to connect to the net. I need to connect an iscsi VTL to this sun system but the first step is to be able to ping the damn thing. I've checked the networking to make sure everything is connected. I can ping the VTL using IPV4, but not IPV6. I've checked on a linux system and it can ping the VTL over IPV6 so I know it is setup properly. This is just driving me nuts.

  • IPv6 Static address

    I have a Swann Communication security camera system with their DVR8-4000 hooked to an IPv4 router, connected to the Internet using the new HughesNet Gen4 service.
    The Swann DVR wired to my router requires a static IP address.  HughesNet Gen4 is implemented with IPv6 and I am told that it does not accommodate an IPv4 type static address.
    I have discussed the issue with both company’s technical support.  HughesNet Gen4 reps recognize the issue and may support static addressing in the future, but not now.  Swann reps will not modify their implementation because of the relatively small Gen4 market.  The Swann rep suggested that replacing my IPv4 router with an IPv6 router might resolve the “static IP address” issue.
    I am looking at several Linksys IPv6 routers including the EA4500 SMART WiFi Wireless Router N900, but know too little about IPv4, IPv6 and router/static addressing to proceed unassisted.
    I will be grateful for any guidance; including 1) can I implement a static address with an Linksys IPv6 router cdonnected to Gen4?  2) Which Linksys routers offer IPv6 support?  3) How does one go about setting an IPv6 static address using HughesNet Gen4 on a Linksys router?

    For your 1st question, the EA4500 does support manual ipv6 but only for 6rd tunneling. For your 2nd question, E4200 v1&2 and the EA series routers support ipv6. Last, for your 3rd question; as long as you have the 6rd tunnel settings from your ISP then you will be able manually set ipv6 on your router.

  • Can't set up static IP with systemd: "Dependency failed for"

    I bootstrapped Arch Linux into a free partition from an Ubuntu Server installation. It boots fine, but I can't seem to get the network working.
    My router is weird in that the last number of the IP address has to be over 200 (so 192.168.1.[must be over 200]), so dhcpcd won't really work for me and I need to set up a static IP.
    To do this, I decided to edit the systemd static IP template from this wiki page (leaving "Wireless" in the name but removing the actual wireless line, as I'm using a wired connection): <https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ne … IP_address>
    Here's my modified script: <http://sprunge.us/BVRA>
    However, when I run "systemctl start newnetwork [what I named the service]", I still can't ping either IP addresses or domain names. When I run "systemctl status newnetwork", I get "Dependency failed for Wireless Static IP Connectivity" and it says that the service is not running.
    I have all of base and base-devel installed, so what could be the problem? It seems like the only other people who have encountered that systemd error message have had significantly different problems.
    For what it's worth, I used this method to bootstrap the system: <https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/In … _Archlinux>
    Thanks ahead of time for any help.

    Welcome to the forums.
    You can actually use dhcpcd to assign a static address too with the "-S" option.
    My first guess for your error would be that the interface is not "eth0" (though the error message seems odd for that, yes).
    Whats the output when you bring the connection up manually (description right above the wiki .service file you link)?

  • Nokia X6 - Can't Set Up Email Address

    Hi folks,
    I'm trying to set up my yahoo mail email address using the email wizard.
    I am going in via the messaging section, i'm asked to define the mailbox which I do by using the email wizard, select yahoo mail and add my email address, click ok and every single time it just keeps coming back as "unable to connect to server.  Try again later"
    I can get on internet, OVI store, call, text and use WLAN but this just keeps coming up the same.
    Is there any way to rectify this or is there some other way I can set up a few email addresses (I tryed my google one too and got the same response)
    Help please!
    Thanks

    @phoneboy1962
    after starting Set up e-mail , have u been asked to select the connection
    if so u can select the connection type which is configured in u r phone given by the network operator.
    and then proceed as instructed by the phone menu.
    if not you may get the settings from the network operator and configure u r phone accordingly and again try,

  • PowerShell: How do I reliably set the IP address on an interface when the interface is not connected ?

    Hello all,
    I am in a bit of a bind - no pun intended.  I would like to know how to reliable set the persistent IP address of an interface that may be disconnected when the address is set.  I can set an address and it will be stored in the ActiveStore but
    that does not really help if I need it next time I reboot.  I have tried using netsh and WMI but they don't seem to create a persistent address on the disconnected interface.  Now if I us ncpa.cpl I can do it all day long so it must be possible.
     In fact if I do it that way the registry settings change. So, I figured I would go that route (modifying the registry) but, alas, that does not work either - upon reboot the address shown in the interface properties show a blank IP address, gateway,
    and netmask.  It is interesting that it is using a static address though.
    Thanks for your help

    There is no such thing as an iphone 4G. There is iphone 4 and iphone 4S.
    If the printer is airprint-enabled, your phone will find it. If not, and there isn't an update to make it so, you will have to use an app to print.

    As I wrote in post #2, it does work when I comment out `IP6=stateless`. So a connection over IPv4 works.

  • (Solved)--Static Address problem

    I set my static address according to the wiki an deverything bu it still refuses to work. I have to use dhcpcd eth0 everytime i boo to make my connection work. Here are a few files:

    gateway="default gw 192.168.1.1"

    127.0.0.1    localhost.localdomain    localhost tux
    192.168.1.10    tux.domain.org    tux
    Anything wrong from this?

    b0uncyfr0, "refuses to work" is vague. What doesn't work exactly? Paste your ifconfig and route output, and the contents of /etc/resolv.conf.
    Ahh well what I meant is that in addition to entries in /etc/rc.conf reg. static IP address and network in DAEMON Array, I did this ifconfig commands and had my eth0 up and running. I know it does not persist across reboots but somehow inspite of having the rc.conf stuff in, it did not wrk but when I ran the rc.conf + ifconfig it worked. Magic Mantra
    inaddition, I saw two lines of eth0="dhcp" in default rc.conf, I had done that also just incase it helps one or all of it together made my eth0 come up. I have now removed duplicate eth0="xxx" entries, removed NetworkManager and kept network and everything works. It is sad that these things must be working in stock install of Arch/Chakra but users have to struggle for such simple things.

  • Can't get ipv6 address assigned correctly.

    I use NetworkManager and dhclient for auto-configuration but it has some weird problems.
    When I boot up my laptop, I only have chance to get access to ipv6 network, when I fail, I tried to delete the connection in Network Management Settings, and then added a new profile, disable and then enable the network again. Sometimes it works well, but sometimes it failed to auto-config.

    response nothing!
    Then I switch into Windows 7, if something like above happened, then I managed to set the MAC address to a random value such as 12-34-56-78-91-23, soon, the problem will be corrected, I'll get a new ipv6 address assigned by DHCPv6 server. If I switch back to arch, set the MAC address in NetworkManager, it didn't have function at most time, and the ipv6 address even won't change!
    Can anyone help me with this problem?
    by the way, I never get ipv6 address when I use dhcpcd.

  • IPv6 Stateful / Static Addressing

    Hi All,
    I'm trying to setup a static set of IPv6 address assignments in a lab / testing setting. I have working IPv6 connectivity via a PPPoE interface and the router is able to ping the IPv6 internet without issue. In addition, I have some machines on the LAN side of the router that can ping and connect to the IPv6 internet using the router's LAN address as the gateway.
    Everything works fine when I am statically assigning / configuring the addresses on each machine on the LAN.
    Now, to keep configuration simple I'd like to centralize configuration on the router. I do the same with IPv4 using DHCP pools that have client-identifier specified in the pool; thus assigning static addresses to clients via DHCP.
    I'm trying to accomplish the same thing with IPv6 stateful but I'm having issues. I've been able to assign a prefix to DHCPv6 stateful assignments, and I can see via the debug logs on the router that my local machines are grabbing IPv6 addresses statefully. Everything works but I'm unable to figure out two things:
    1) How to constrain client requests to a pool based on client identification. As above, with IPv4 pools using a client-identifier with a MAC addresses accomplishes this.
    2) How to constrain the addresses assign to the clients within the pool; assignment seems to happen on a prefix level only and I really want to assign the entire address.
    I can see using the debug logs on the router that there are some references to the "username" of the request client (seems to be the DUID) and how this username has no entry in the pool database so an address is being assigned at random. I think the key is possible in adding static entries to this pool database but I can't see how that would be done at all.
    Any hints / tips?
    Thanks!
    Dylan

    A scalable solution would be to configure a RADIUS server and provide the client their IP address via the frame-ip-address attribute. A hack could be to have a group defined on the EasyVPN server which is associated with an IP pool that has only one address available.

  • How can I turn off IPv6 temporary addresses in a enterprise environment

    So in a default configuration Vista and Windows 7 clients will use IPv6 temporary address (per RFC 3041), but I would like to be able to disable this with a GPO.
    I know I can do this by using a startup script tied to a GPO using the netsh interface ipv6 set privacy state=disabled store=persistent but I really do not want to run a logon script especially when as you can see in the command it is a persistent
    setting.
    Any ideas on using a registry based GPO for this?

    Hi,
    OK, I understand what you want. But after I use the Process Monitor to capture the behavior, I found that a lot of registry keys would be changed. So you can not set it via registry unless the IPv6 is disabled.
    Thanks for understanding.
    Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread. ”
    Thank you again for the answer.
    As a follow up question... How does one suggest/request a change in default behavior in a MS product?
    While the RFC 3041 addresses might be nice to have for the average consumer they are not ideal in a enterprise environment. I have found that the temporary addresses will register in DNS, but this doesn't completely solve the issue of tracking and accountability,
    you would still need a application to query, correlate and store that information.
    So it would be nice if the business versions of Windows Vista/7/2K8 and the next client OS would not have this behavior by default.
