Can u go opteron dual core (165) with a msi diamond mobo for desktop use

is it worth it, ive researched it has more cache than x2 3800+ the opteron 165, whats better for overall performance, gaming, running windows etc..? thanks
and i have a neo4 platnium should i upgrade to the diamond sli mobo?

Sure you can - your Neo 4 should handle it fine. Assuming you upgrade to a Dual Core compatable BIOS before doing your CPU swap.
I have a Opty 165 in my Neo2 Platinum mobo & it works great.
You will probably have to to do a repair install or install a fresh copy of XP to make sure that both cores operate properly though.

  • Doe's the reconfigured mac mini with the 3.0GHz Dual Core i7, with 3.5GHz Turbo Boost, run at 7200 rpm?

    Hello there.
Doe's the reconfigured mac mini with the fourth generation 3.0 GHz Dual Core i7 with 3.5GHz Turbo Boost, with 1TB Fusion Drive, run at 7200rpm?
    Thanks.

Historically Apple have generally used 5400rpm hard disk drives and while the detailed information on the Apple store does not definitively say what speed hard disk the 1TB Fusion drive includes, it does make mention of testing conducted with a 5400rpm drive.
Therefore I think we can safely assume it does come with a 5400rpm 1TB hard disk. However this is not necessarily as bad as it sounds, the whole point of a Fusion drive is to automatically off-load the most commonly used files to the much faster 128GB SSD portion of the Fusion drive so overall you should get performance better than even a 7200rpm hard disk.
Finally, as far as I can see for the Mac mini it does not matter which speed model you buy they will all come with the same 1TB drive model if you chose a 1TB capacity, so the 3.0GHz Dual Core i7, 2.8GHz Dual Core i7, and 2.6GHz Dual Core i5 will all have a 5400rpm 1TB hard disk.

  • Can I use Type -- 'convert to outline' in Illustrator on Typekit fonts I've 'designated for desktop use'? I've not been able to as of yet.

I'm trying to print vinyl letters for a gallery I'm a member of and love the Cronos Pro regular font. i've designated this for desktop use and created 24 name files at 200pt. The person working with the vinyl asked if I could 'convert to outline' possibly to make the font a bit larger, I don't really know. When I tried to do this, I found that choice grayed out on the type menu. I am wondering if this means the Typekit fonts 'designated for desktop use' simply do not have the permission to be 'converted to outline'.

Cutting always requires proper paths/ outlines. This has nothing to do with the font or large format printing per se. Beyond that there should be no limitation in using fonts - as long as you can mangle them in AI, it means that somewhere those outlines exist internal to the program so the type can actually be rendered. Whatever prevents this may more likely be inherent in how you treat your text. you would have to provide more specific info on that. Either way, ask in the AI forum for more detailed answers.

  • For virtualization, what processor can replace Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU T4500 of Compaq 620?

    Dear HP community,
I bought a Compaq 620 Energy Star notebook 3 years ago, and its processor is Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU T4500, but without virtualization feature. For supporting virtualization etc features, can you recommend a suitable processor to replace it without replacing the other components, and the notebook still perform as well as before? Moreover, what tools are required to replace the processor?
Thank you very much for your help !

i did some research, it looks like that the compaq 620 energy star notebook can  be upgraded to have virtualization feature by only replace the CPU (support virtualization), without replaceing any other components, e.g. the motherboard. it is much appreciated if anyone can help to confirm this.
moreover, it is said that it is not good to replace the component like CPU of a notebook, because some of the notebook components are soldered to the motherboard, but i'm thinking this doesn't mean the notebook components can't be replaced. with the right tools, the right apporaches and with caution, the notebook components, like the CPU, can be replaced. it is much appreciated if any one can help to confirm this as well.
if only upgrade the CPU (with virtualization feature) which is supported by the current motherboard (compaq 620 energy star), can the whole notebook system support virtualization technology (including motherboard, BIOS, CPU etc)?
please do help to answer the above questions, and give me the firmed advice on upgrading the whole system to enable virtualization feature. i don't have enough budget to purchase the new computer system, so perfer to upgrade.
thank you very much for your help in deed !

  • How can you tell? dual core or dual processor

    I recently purchased a G-5.... SUPER!!!!
How do I know if my new machine comes with a dual core processor
or is it a dual processor?

The easiest way is to go to the Apple support site and put in your serial number where it says "About your Apple Product". If it states Power Mac G5 (Late 2005), then it is a dual core model.

  • 1.8 intel dual core imac vs powermac g5 1.8  for same price

    Power Mac G5 1.8 GHz/ 256MB/ 80GB/ SuperDrive/ vs iMac 17-inch 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo. same price
which is better for graphics. seems the imac is a much better deal though no universal disks for photoshop yet.
could someone help me sort this out. i can't find this particular battle with search.

    thanx michael.
your advice is sound. but it is still such a tough choice.
i love that the powermac is expandable and runs cs2 really quickly but i bet that the intel imac is really faster in every way when adobe becomes native on the new imacs. i mean doesn't the imac have a much faster gpu and cpu and ram and larger hdd than the powermac that i listed. i just hate that the intel imac doesn't support any of the apps that i need. it is like apple planned it this way so that the consumer model wouldn't step on the toes of the power mac line before they offer faster intel chips too. it makes the imac useless for why i need it. but it is a better deal than the ppowermac from 2003. it is a really hard choice.

  • Tip - You can still get epub ebook readers compatible with 1st, 2nd generation iPods for Project Gutenberg etc.

Although iBooks, Kindle, Nook, Stanza and Overdrive are no longer available for devices limited to iOS 3.1.3 and 4.2.1, you can still find ebook readers that work with the older iPhone or iPod Touch. Actually, there are several, but here's a free one I tried out:
    BeyondPrint Reader
There is no need to get an Adobe ID if you want to use it only for Gutenberg public domain books. After you've installed BeyondPrint, launch Safari and go to http://www.gutenberg.org/ to search for a book. Then download one in the epub format. It will present you with a pop-up where you can choose BeyondPrint.
I'm hopeful that it will work with the DRM-protected books from the public library.

Here's an update to my last post I tried out a second epub reader called iDCL Reader. It is very similar to the BeyondPrint Reader. Both are versions of the Bluefire reader.
I was very curious to see if it could open epub files from my local library, the County of Los Angeles Public Library. They use a popular system called Overdrive, and the current version of their iPod app is not compatible with iOS 4.2.1. So after making sure that my old, working version of the Overdrive app was backed up, I deleted it from my iPod and launched Safari. I navigated too the Library's website, logged in to the Overdrive section and checked out a book (Homage to Catalonia, by George Orwell).
Sadly, it did not give me a pop-up window for downloading as the Gutenberg site did. Just a nasty error message. On to the next step.
I went to my Windows PC, and downloaded the book, which opened in Adobe Digital Editions, the reader app for deaktop machines. Then I opened iTunes and dragged the epub file to the file transfer area of the iDCL Reader. Then Synced the iPod.
And yes, it worked! You can read Adobe DRM-protected library eBooks without the official Overdrive app. Too bad it's not seamless the way it is with the Project Gutenberg books.

  • Do new dual cores ship with 10.4.3 or........

Finally after 2 years of lurking in this forum, I have ordered a DC 2.0. I am new to Mac and have about 2 weeks to review what to do first...etc. I am wondering if I'll need to do updates to the OS or firmware before doing anything else, such as removing the MS office Test Drive to put the full version on. One thing I'm getting ahead of time is a UPS.
I ordered an internal airport card to connect wirelessly via (hopefully) a Linksys wireless router connected to my husbands PC (cable connection). If I have to upgrade to 10.4.3 or do a firmware upgrade, would it be better to download it ahead of time to a CD before trying the wireless connection - as there may be something in the upgrade to make it more compatible.
Would love to have a smooth setup...have really enjoyed these forums and all the enthusiatic help here.

One thing I'm getting ahead of time is a UPS.
With my Quad received on Dec 1, I'm using a 1000VA Belkin UPS. It is the same UPS I used with my MDD Dual 867 and !9" CRT, plus misc Firewire drives and RX600 printer. I've exchanged the coumputer with the Quad (very quiet) and the monitor with a 20" Cinema. The UPS seems to be holding it's own. I, along with some others posted some links for recommendced UPSs in another thread.
If I have to upgrade to 10.4.3 or do a firmware upgrade,
would it be better to download it ahead of time to a
CD before trying the wireless connection
AS others have described, I just booted up, did the personal install on my Quad, then let it do the appropriate D/Ls and updates. You do elevate to 10.4.3 this way, plus any others that are needed. I cannot remember if wifi and/or bluetooth were updated. It was after all of this that I started addng my programs and files.
Your wireless should work fine for doing all of the D/Ls as this takes place after you insert your service provider settings.

  • How to distribute the serial core only with my exe and DLL application using the Labview application builder 8.21. I'm not interested having MAX and other components installed on the customer PC and in the program menu

Since Labview ver 8.0 and later, I am not very happy with the new way the project installer is managing the additional drivers such as Serial.
With LV 7.11 the serial components was included in the cab file and was installed on the target computer in a specific directory. The size of the distribution was pretty small and well suited for compact distribution.
My LV application use only the serial object and with LV 8.21, if I include the serial 3.2 component, I get an enormus file including max, visa ... and a lot of fucky component I do not need.
To distribute my application, I just need, the runtime engine and the serial driver as it was with the version 7.XX
Looking for clever advises from you gentlemen!

    Thanks Dennis for you input
My problem is in fact very simple. 3 years ago, I developped a software suite for X ray generator; My company is selling such generator all over the world and our control panel software and DLL (for OEM integrator) is based on Labview professionnal development plateform.
To drive our generator, we just need to transfer ascii data using the strandard RS232 port still present on most of equipments used in the industrial area.
Until LV version 7.11, there was no problem to include serial component in my distribution with a very reasonable size and transparency for the end user.
with LV 8.xx (preparing a new release), I'm very disapointed to see, my distribution is increased of about for 10 Mo to 180 Mo just because I increase the serial component.
May I mix a previous version of the serial component with LV 8.21?
Should I change my source to Visa instruction only and merge visa runtime only to my distribution?
is there any simple serial example based on visa and distributed with th application builder?
I will appreciate your help in order to optimize my distribution
