Can you establish a Java enviroment w/o downloading and installing JAVA?

Hello,
I am a fifteen-year-old, JAVA compatible teenager in Northern VA. I am trying to find a simple and easy way to run a JAVA application (using the ".class" files, of course) on a windows platform, hopefully without have to go through a complex install procedure. Is there some way to do this? Is this what the JRE is for? The Java plug-in? Any and all help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
-Stephen Mouring Jr.

Basically, the JRE is as easy to install as any other application. You just double click it, run though the wizard, and bingo.
The easiest way to distribute the JRE is to burn it onto CDs, and give them away with your app. Then users won't even have to download it. You could call it a driver ;-)
Installing the Java applications can be a bit harder. The easiest way to do it is with Java WebStart (included with the JRE), but IMO this isn't really reliable yet.
Distribute your apps in a JAR file, and make a self extracting exe that can copy the JAR to the Program Files directory, and copy a shortcut to it onto the desktop. That is, at least theoretically the easiest way.
The hard part is not installing the JRE. The hard part is making your app invoke the JRE. Basically, to make your app have an icon on the desktop and everything automatically, you'll need some kind of installer. How you go about this really depends on what kind of user base you want to distribute apps to.
Hope this helps.--

i found a lot of downloads like j2sdk and jdk6update7 and some more.
i downloaded both and installed one and tried to run a sample program.
in jdk i couldnt find javac compiler
in j2sdk i could not connect the path variable
i am really confused to start things - can anyone help me for a kick off start in java (in win xp)

    Hi,
From your message, i think u didnt set the classpath dats y the javac din work
Go to your jdk directory\bin file
    Eg. C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_07\bin
    Next set the environment variable
    My Computer -->Properties -->Advanced-->Environment Variables
Look for path and add the jdk directory\bin into it and u can start using javac to compile.

  • Downloading and installing Java

I recently got a new computer with Win XP Pro with SP 2, and I tried to run my old jdk 1.2.1 apps (like appletviewer and javac), but none of them work. For example, if I run "appletviewer drawTest.html" from my command line like I've always done it, I get an error msg saying that "appletviewer.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close" with the option to send an error report to Microsoft about the problem. I am assuming that my old jdk 1.2.1 does not work with Win XP like it did with my old Win2kPro, and that I need to d/l and install a new version of the Java Development Kit. The problem is, I've been "out of the loop" so long that when I go to the Sun site, I don't know which file to d/l. Would it be the JDK 6u1 or what? I'm sorry if I sound really dumb. I'm still a n00b, and your help will be greatly appreciated.

You should be fine downloading version 6 of the JDK. Since there have tremendous changes and deprecations since 1.2, you should get a more valid warnings when you run your applet but not his kind of error.

  • Can I pay for CC now but delay download and install until later date?

Does anyone know if this is possible? Or does one have to download at time payment.

No, you can download the apps at any time; you don't have to download at the beginning, or all at once.  You can download Acrobat now, Photoshop 6 months later, and Illustrator even later, whatever you want.

  • I can't find an app that is already downloaded and installed on my iPad.  Can anyone help me?

My 5 year old has somehow hidden the Netflix app.  It shows that it it installed at the app store but I cannot find the app anywhere however it is listed in the settings.  Does anyone now how to find the app and get it back on the screen?

Is it hidden via an app age rating in Settings > General > Restrictions ? If not then you could try a reset and see if it shows after the iPad has restarted : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

I am trying to use a website that requires that my computer have the latest version of Java, which I have updated and installed Java 7 Update 51 (64-bit), however Firefox does not recognize that I even have Java on my computer. My computer is 64-bit
When I run "Verify Java Version" it show nothing is installed... but it is, I know that for a fact because it shows in my "Control Panel/Programs/Programs and Features".
When I go back to the Java Download page, the following message is visible:
"We have detected you may be viewing this page in a 32-bit browser. If you use 32-bit and 64-bit browsers interchangeably, you will need to install both 32-bit and 64-bit Java in order to have the Java plug-in for both browsers."
    My question is this:
Is there a way to change my Firefox browser from 32-bit to 64-bit.... because it appears that this is way Java is not functioning properly?

Firefox needs 32-bit plugins, so you'll need to install 32-bit Java for Firefox.
No, you can't change Firefox from 32-bt to 64-bit. There is a Nightly 64-bit version (alpha) of Firefox, but it is used only to test for regressions until development is resumed.

  • Just downloaded and Installed, can't find javac.exe

I think the subject pretty much says it. I've downloaded and installed java. Trying to follow the tutorial, but I cant find a "javac.exe" file on my computer?
    What did i do wrong?

Dont be impressed of the download-time. Forte is very nice, but you need much RAM and a good processor. I use 300Mhz and 128Ram, in this case it was definately to slow. now I use JCreator 2.0... its free and has not such nice functions like Forte, but it opens in 3 seconds, while Forte always needed about 1 min !

I've noticed there is a Adobe Remote Update Manager, but I would rather all the updates and installs happen in the background.

  • You tube adobe flash player updated and installed ,java script enabled but can't play videos with firefox help

i have movies from you tube in my que but cannot watch them . I have downloaded and installed adobe flash playe ver 10 5 time and it does not work some one with the same problem said mozilla fire fox is not compatible with the new flash player should i go back to internet explore and uninstall firefox? or is this a problem with your server fix this please

There are two different versions of Flash, one version for IE (ActiveX) and another version for all other browsers (Plugin version). You need to install the Plugin version,
1.Download the Flash setup file from here: <br />
    [http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe Adobe Flash - Plugin version]. <br />
Save it to your Desktop.<br />
    2. Close Firefox using File > Exit <br />
then check the Task Manager > Processes tab to make sure '''firefox.exe''' is closed, <br />
    {XP: Ctrl+Alt+Del, Vista: Shift+Ctrl+ESC = Processes tab}
    3. Then run the Flash setup file from your Desktop.
    * On Vista and Windows 7 you may need to run the plugin installer as Administrator by starting the installer via the right-click context menu if you do not get an UAC prompt to ask for permission to continue (i.e nothing seems to happen). <br />

can i establish wifi direct between lg smart tv and imac 10.6.8?

In order to do that you will need an AppleTV, you can buy them refurbished from Apple for $75.00. I just got one and love it. I have a fairly large DVD library (about 400 movies) and music library (500 + albums), with AppleTV I can now stream that content to the the link to the refurbished unit is:

EDIT:Whoops I misdirected you. To stream content from the TV to the computer you will probably need a third party device like and Elgato box. I can only refer you to their website at: http://www.elgato.com/eyetv

  • Can I safely download and run Java 7 on my OS X 10.6.8?

    Hello,
Just purchased software that requires Java 7 ("runtime?"), but my system seems to only be able to run Java 6. How can I safely download and run Java 7 on my OS X 10.6.8? What is the solution or workaround?
(PLEASE NOTE: I'm not a programmer. I rate my tech skills at a "3" on a scale from 1 to 10; 10 being strongest. I don't even know what "runtime" is... lol)
Can anyone suggest anything? If so, I appreciate it.

You can't. Java 7 requires OS X Lion or above.
