Can you nest ESI variables?

For example, I want to lookup a value in an ESI Environment file. However, the name of the value to lookup is specified in the query string.
So I'd be doing something like the following to extract the desired value:
$(env{$(QUERY_STRING{name})})
...where 'env' is the name of the esi:environment.
However, this does not work. Is it possible to nest esi variables in this way. If so, how?
Many thanks,
Francis

Any plans to implement this?
It would be very useful in some situations. For example, you have a page that outputs a value from an esi environment file, where the name of that value is specified in the Query String.
So your URL is something like:
lookup.jsp?lookup=firstName
Then, in lookup.jsp, you have something like:
$(env{$(QUERY_STRING{lookup})})
...which does a look up in the environment file for the key specified using the 'lookup' query string parameter. In the example above, the value for 'firstName' would be retrieved from the environment file.
Any chance of implementing nested ESI variables in the near future?

  • Can you convert a variable text (spanning multiple rows) but fixed

    Hi all,
    I have a PDF table with 5 columns, couple of title rows at the top and four lines per row table into Excel? I'd want each excel row to have four lines as four combined rows. Think of each column as a date, an ID, a mailing address, an amount and a comment. It looks like a typical form, but on multiple pages (about 27) and I want all the info as an Excel table. Can I convert this PDF doc into Excel?
    Any pointers and/or solutions welcome... Please help.
    Thanks much in advance,
    Nash

    No, there isn't. Pages can't break within a row, only between rows.
    If you not are going to print the document you can change the paper size to something larger/longer. File > Page Setup > Paper Size > Manage custom sizes

  • Can you reference package variables in a pl/sql object type

    I'm trying to create an object type and I would like to use a type from a pacakge definition as one of the parameters for a method in the object. I read that types defined inside a PL/SQL package cannot be used as parameter. Does anyone have a workaround for this?

    You could move the type definition out from the package to a schema level object type. Then you should be able to use the schema level object type in both your package and the new object you wish to create.
    Below is a short example of what I mean:
    -- The way I interpreted your question
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE foo_pkg
    AS
    TYPE foo_obj IS RECORD (
    f1 NUMBER

  • How Can You Tell if the URLRequest Variables Are Posted?

    Hi,
    This sounds really odd, because I happen to have three variables I am supposed to pass to an httpservice and have the results output to my Flex app.
    The problem is, I don't know how I can tell if a variable has been posted or not, because no matter what I do, it looks like my trace statement is accurate, but there is nothing shown on the screen.
    I tried changing it to GET, and then I get this IO Event Handler error, because my variables are so long.
    var loader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
            var url:String = "http://localhost/generic.php";
            var variables:URLVariables = new URLVariables();
                variables.from= from_string;
                variables.state_colors = state_colors_string;
                variables.change = change_string;
            var encode:String= encodeURI(url);
            var pattern:RegExp = /#/g;
            var decode:String = encode.replace(pattern,"%23");
            var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest(decode);
            request.method = URLRequestMethod.POST;
    I am wondering if my variables have been passed correctly. Is there some other way other than using trace statements?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the tip, and I have just done that with my php code end. It turns out that the file was generated, and the file is blank after the code has finalized execution.
      So, I guess that my POST variables is definitely not posted.
    By the way, I have added a couple of lines for security and IO checks, like you suggested, and here is the almost complete code:
    public function changeMap():void{
            var url:String = "http://localhost/generic.php";
            var variables:URLVariables = new URLVariables();
                variables.from= from_string;
                variables.state_colors = state_colors_string;
                variables.change = change_string;
            var encode:String= encodeURI(url);
            var pattern:RegExp = /#/g;
            var decode:String = encode.replace(pattern,"%23");
            var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest(decode);
            request.method = URLRequestMethod.POST;
            var loader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
            loader.addEventListener(SecurityErrorEvent.SECURITY_ERROR, onSecurityError);
            loader.addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, onIOError);
            loader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onLoadComplete);
            loader.load(request);
             private function onSecurityError(event:SecurityErrorEvent):void {
                trace("securityErrorHandler: " + event);
             private function onIOError(event:IOErrorEvent):void {
                trace("ioErrorHandler: " + event);
            public function onLoadComplete(event:Event):void {             //event output
    From the console, the error events returned nothing from the addEventListeners.
    When I used GET before, they worked with two passing variables, but since my variables are now more than 512 characters, I cannot put this on the url, which is why I am insisting on using POST here.
    Have I done anything else wrong here?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Can you create a ToC with nested character styles?

    I'm creating a technical guide document, and for ease of formatting within document creation I've used nesting character styles within the 'Body' paragraph style. I need to reference the second level headings within the ToC, but I since I can only use the 'Paragraph' styles in ToC creation - can I do this? (I'm using InDesign CC)
    The document looks something like this, with the italics indicating the nesting structure and the ** indicating what needs to go in ToC.
    1. Our Story (separate paragraph style, not an issue)
    1.1 Random Title Goes Here ("Body" paragraph style, nested "Heading 2")**
    Body text now, all over here, several paragraphs, etc. ("Body" paragraph style, nested "Body")
    Subheadings - not required in ToC ("Body paragraph style," nested "Subheading")
    1.2 Random Section Title goes here ("Body" paragraph style, nested "Heading 2")**
    More body text, you get the gist. ("Body paragraph style, nested "Body")
    Basically, I need to build my ToC with the Heading 1 and the Heading 2, but Heading 2 is nested in "Body" paragraph style.

    Nested styles are NOT a TOC style function, it is only available in a paragraph style. But when you choose a paragraph style to be written into your TOC based on another Para Style, most likely a headline, you can define such nested styles in this para style.
    But a TOC entry can only include a complete paragraph, a single one. You can make a Para Style, let's name it TOC1 which draws the information from Headline 1, but not for headline 2.
    This TOC1 can include nested styles (or GREP styles).
    Another way to define chara styles automatically is via the TOC style definition. Styles there will override any styles which come from nested and GREP styles. (But this does not necessary mean, that they have no functionality any more, because ID's styles are only partially defined and leave room for other elements of a style to be used together.)

  • Maxl - can you use variables in iferror statements

    hi guys,
    A quick one:
    Can you use variables when doing error handling? I assume the answer is yes, but just wanted to make sure.
    example:
    set app1 = Test;
    set app1_db1 = Test;
    alter database $app1.$app1_db1 force archive to file "C:\\EssbaseBackup\\$app1\\$app1_db1\\$app1_db1.arc";
    iferror 'Bk_$app1.$app1_db1_Error';
    define label 'Bk_$app1.$app1_db1_Error';
    exit 10;
    I am putting error handling into my script and want to double check before I go about making the alterations.

    You don't need to split the files. Create a Maxl with parameters and then call it in a bat file.
    In the bat you can then check for Error.
    essmsh -D "%HYP_MONTH_SCRIPTS_DIR%\Maxl_Files\HYP_ESS_Archive.msh" %DECRYPTKEY% Appname1 Dbname1
    call :archiveerrcheck
    essmsh -D "%HYP_MONTH_SCRIPTS_DIR%\Maxl_Files\HYP_ESS_Archive.msh" %DECRYPTKEY% Appname2 Dbname2
    call :archiveerrcheck
    archiveerrcheck:
         SET FILE=%MAXLLOG_DIR%\Archive.log
         findstr /R "\<ERROR" %FILE% > ESSErrCheck
          for /F %%A in ("ESSErrCheck") do If %%~zA NEQ 0 (
            call :datestamp
            echo  Error in Archive Process......................... > %ESSLOG%
            copy %FILE% %HYP_MONTH_ERR_DIR%\Essbase\MaxL\Maxl_Error.log
            DEL /Q ESSErrCheck

  • Can you have a local variable to handle wfm information?

    I am very new to test stand. Can you have a local variable to handle wfm information?
    Also how do you use parameters? Do you need to have a parameter of the same name in the main sequence and subsequence?

    Hi Brian
    Parameters are one way you can pass data from a calling sequence to a subsequence. From the main sequence, right-click on your subsequence and select "Specify Module...". In the "Parameters" section of the dialog box, you should see any parameters that you have for your subsequence. You can then assign these subsequence parameters to have the same value as a parameter from the calling sequence, a local variable from the calling sequence, a constant, etc. In regards to your question about naming parameters, you do not need to have parameters of the same name in both the calling sequence and the subsequence, although you could have them be the same name.

  • Can we use Substitution variables in MAXL?

    Hi,
    Can we use substitution variables in MAXL script?
    I have to run this MAXL command for clearing a slice of ASO cube on V11.1.1.3.
    alter database Apname.DBname clear data in region 'CrossJoin({[2009]},{[Dec]})';
    I am planning to use Current_year & Current_month variables instead of hardcoding 2009 & Dec as I have to use this everymonth to clear the current months data.
    If it is allowed, what is the syntax?
    Is there any alternative apart from substitution variables?
    Appreciate your thoughts.
    Thanks,
    -Ethan.

    You would just use ampersand and the variable name instead of the hard coding e.g. &yearVar &periodVar.
    Not tried it on aso clears but in theory it should work as ...'CrossJoin({&yearVar},{&periodVar})';
    just change yearVar and periodVar for your substitution variable names.

  • Can I use bind variable instaed of writing static COLUMN Name

    Hi , I am having a table containing id and column names, the data is stored against that id in other tables. Now I wish to update data into another table so that it goes into apppropriate column without using decode function.
    I am trying to do this:
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'update TEST set :1 = :2
    where PROJECT_ID= :3 and UNIQUE_ID= :4' using P_DEST_COLUMN, P_TEXT_VALUE, P_PROJ_ID, P_TASK_UID;
    the values P_DEST_COLUMN, P_TEXT_VALUE, P_PROJ_ID, P_TASK_UID are populated using a cursor in PL/SQl
    Is this statement valid? If not can you tell me how to do it as I am getting some error I am unable to comprehend.
    thanks
    Rishabh

    Column names cannot be substituted at run-time as bind variables. If you need to specify the column name at run-time, you'd need to construct a new string and execute that string dynamically, i.e.
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'UPDATE test SET ' || p_dest_column || ' = :1 ' || ...From a data model standpoint, storing column names as data elements in another table is generally a rather poor idea. It's likely to make ad-hoc reporting nearly impossible and to cause a lot more parsing than would otherwise be required.

  • Can you get values back from a stored procedure via OUTPUT parameters?

    Can you get values back from calling a stored procedure via OUTPUT parameters/variables? I call the SP via a SQL statement from a script either in a WF or DF.
    I thought I read some reference that DI could not get the values from OUTPUT parameters but I could not find it again (don't know if it is in any of the documentation or referred to in a forum.
    I did try a couple of tests but it did not reutrn any values via OUTPUT. But before I give up I thought I'd see if you could and maybe I needed to change something.

    This isn't exactly an answer to your question, but I'll point out that, given that you're resorting to a SQL script in the first place, there's no reason you can't also turn the output parameters into a regular result or record set. (The following uses T-SQL, although I think it's pretty generic.)
    declare @param1 int, param2 varchar(100), @return int;
    exec @return = proc @param1 = @param1 output, @param2 = @param2 output;
    select @param1 as param1, @param2 as param2;
    That is, to get from output parameters to a "regular" output from the SQL script isn't much of a leap...

  • How can I use a variable as an array's name?

    Ok I have several arrays in my code (lets call them "array1", "array2" etc) and I want to load them based on the users input. So if the user enters array1, I want the first array to be loaded, and the same with the other arrays.
    I tried saving the user's input on a string variable called ARRAY_NAME, so that each time the user enters a different array name, the corresponding array is loaded. Something like this:
      ARRAY_NAME[c1][c2]; but I get this error:
    array required, but java.lang.String found
              ARRAY_NAME[c1][c2];
    ___________^
    Can you please tell me what is the correct way of doing it?
    Thanx!

    The short answer is you can't. An object name can't be
    variable and must be known at compile time. But you
    could associate the user input name with a particular
    array, for example, using a HashMap with the user name
    as the key to an array. However, you'd need to use a
    container class (Vector, ArrayList, etc.) rather than
    a raw array, because containers only take class
    instances as elements.Maps can't deal with primitives, that is true. However, arrays are full scale objects, so they can be put into maps.
    Also, my code had a bug in it. Try this:
    int userIndex = getUserIndex();
    String userInput = getUserInput();
    Field array = getClass().getDeclaredField(userInput);
    Object item = Array.get(array.get(this), userIndex);

  • How can I use a variable in BEx of type date ?

    Hello,
    I have an infoprovider with a key figure of type "date" and I want to display for example all the data where the date is lower than a date entered by the user.
    So I want to create for that a date variable and use it in conditions.
    When I try with "manual entry", I can't get the type "date" : it proposes quantity, amount, number but not date.
    When I try with "customer exit", I can get the type "date" but when I get it on the selection screen, the date is seen as a number so it doesn't work.
    Does anybody have an idea.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi!
    if you are using a cube then there will be at least one time char. I think you can just add 0calday to your cube , even if you are not filling it.
      Once this is available in cube  it can be used in query (free chars) where we can define a variable on this 0calday. But we it will not have any effect on query results as you are not storing anything in your query.
    then in your conditions you create a variable with USEREXIT type. then in your ABAP code you can access the value stored in variable(which is entered by user) and copy it to the USEREXIT variable. Then your condition works because it is having a date type and the value is date.
    I don't see any problem in implementing this scenario.

  • How can I use a variable in webi query filter

    I created a webi report using the fiscal year/month(period) field as a filter to show a window of 18 periods.  The report works just as requested using a between filter on fiscal period with prompts for both the start and ending periods.  Now I'd like to calculate the start period based on what was entered in the prompt for the ending period (e.g. enter 201106 for the TO prompt on the between statement and have the FROM statement filled in as 201001.)  I can create variables in the report to display both the user response to the ending period prompt and the calculated starting period, but I cannot figure out how to incorporate that calculated starting date into the FROM side of the between query filter.
    Any suggestions?

    Let me understand what you want to do.  You don't want to use two prompts, just one, insn't it?
    I mean, instead of:
    Filter area:
    Date between "From prompt" to "To Prompt"
    You want something like:.
    Filter area:
    Date between Variable  to "To Prompt"
    if I'm not wrong that's not possible to achieve in Webi Query  Panel.
    Can you modify your universe? The only way to achieve it is modifying your universe, creating your formula in the universe and assigning it to an object, so you can use this new object in your filter area like this:
    Date between MyUniverseObject  to "To Prompt"
