Cancel the query which uses full transaction log file

Hi,
We have reindexing job to run every week sunday. During the last run, the transaction log got full and the subsequent transactions to the database got errorred out stating 'Transaction log is full'. I want to restrict the utilization of the log file, that
is, when the reindexing job reaches the utilization of the log file to a certain threshold automatically the job should get cancelled. Is there any way to get it.

Hello,
Instead of Putting limit on trn log it would be good to find out cause causing high utilization.Even if you find that your log is growing because of some transaction it would be a blunder to rollback its little easy to do it for Index rebuild but if you
cancel for some delete operation you would end up in mess.Please don't create a program to delete or kill running operation.
You can create custom job for alert for trn log file growth.That would be good.
From 2008 onwards Index rebuild is fully logged so sometimes it causes trn log issue.To solve this either you run index rebuild for specific tables or for selective tables.
Other option is widely accepted Ola Hallengren script for index rebuild.I suggest you try this

  • Fine tunning the query which uses /*+ USE_CONCAT */ table hint

    Some of the queries in our application uses the /*+ USE_CONCAT */ table hint which takes huge time for the execution in Oracle database.when we fire the below query in 250Million production database it takes approx.3min for the execution.
    Because of this we are facing a performance issue in the application.
    Below is the sample query :
    SELECT /*+ USE_CONCAT */ * FROM DI_MATCH_KEY WHERE NORM_COUNTRY_CD = 'US'
    AND ((( NORM_CONAME_KEY1 ='WILM I' OR NORM_CONAME_KEY2 = 'WILM I' OR NORM_CONAME_KEY23 = 'WILM I'
    OR NORM_CONAME_KEYFIRST ='WILLIAM' ) AND NORM_STATE_PROVINCE = 'CA' ) OR NORM_ADDR_KEY2 = 'CALMN 12 3 OSAI')
    Regarding the indexes almost for all the columns combination for the above sql index already created in table.
    Your suggestions will be appreciated

  • WebDAV Query generates a high number of transaction log files

    Hi all,
    I have a program that launch WebDAV queries to search for contacts on an Exchange 2007 server. The number of contacts returned for each user's mailbox is quite high (about 4500).
    I've noticed that each time the query is launched, about 15 transaction log files are generated on the Exchange server (each of them 1Mb). If I ask only for 2 properties on the contacts, this number is reduced to about 8.
    This is a problem since our program is supposed to launch often (about every 3/5min) as It will synchronize Exchange mailboxes with a SQL Server DB. The result is that the logs increase very quickly on the server side, even if there are not so many updates.
    Any idea why so many transaction logs are generated when doing a WebDAV search returning many items? I would understand that logs are created when an update is done on the server, but here it's only a search with many contacts items returned.
    Is there maybe a setting on the Exchange server to control what kind of logs to generate?
    Thank for your help,
    Alexandre

    Hi Alex,
    Actually circular logging/backup was not a solution, I was just explaining that there is an option like that on server but it is not recommended hence not useful in our case :)
    - I am not a developer but AFAIK, WebDAV search query shouldn't generate transaction log because it just searches the mailboxes and gives the result in HTTP format and doesn't produce any Exchange transaction.
    - I wouldn't open transaction logs since it is being used by Exchange which may generate errors and may corrupt Exchange database sometime too. However it is not readable, as you observed, other than Exchange Information Store service (store.exe).
    - You can post this query in development forum to get better idea on this, if any other programmer observed similar symptom while using WebDAV contact search query in Exchange 2007 or can validate your query.
    Microsoft TechNet > Forums Home > Exchange Server > Development
    Well, I just saw that you are using Exchange 2007, in that case why don't you use Exchange Web Service which is better and improved method to access/query mailboxes where as WebDAV is also de-emphasized in Exchange 2007 and might be disappeared in next version of Exchange. • While uploading data into the r/3 using call transaction or session method

    hi experts
    while uploading data into the r/3 using call transaction or session method error occured in the middle of the processing then how these methods behaves it transfers next records or not?

    hai
    Session method: The records are not added to the database until the session is processed. sy-subrc is not returned. Error logs are created for error records. Updation in database table is always Synchronous.
    Call Transaction method: The records are immediately added to the database table. sy-subrc is returned to 0 if successful. Error logs are not created and hence the errors need to be handled explicitly. Updation in database table is either Synchronous or Asynchronous.
    While to transfer the data from the through if any errors occurs until the errors are the complete the data is not transfer to the SAP system.
    the system compulsory shows the errors. that errors are stored into the error logs (Transaction is SM35).
    so the session method should not return any value.
    In call transaction method data is directly pass to the SAP system.
    So its compulsory return the value.
    Because of the call transaction is the function.
    A function should return the value mandatory
    In session method errors stroed in SYSTEM GENRATED ERROR LOG.
    IN CALL TRANSACTION TO CAPTURE THE ERRORS WE SHOULD PERFORM THE FOLLOWING.
    FIRST ME MUST DECLARE AN INTERNAL TABLE WITH THE STRUCTURE OF BDCMSGCOLL TABLE.
    THEN WHILE WRITING THE CALL TRANSACTION STATEMENT WE SHOULD PUT THE 'E' MODE FOR CAPTURING ALL THE ERRORS.
    THEN FINALLY THE CAPTURED ERRORS MUST TO SENT TO THE INTERNAL TABLE WHICH WE DECLARED IN THE BEGINNING WITH BDCMSGCOLL BY USING THE FUNCTION MODULE "FORMAT_MESSAGE"
    AND THUS THE ERROR MESSAGES WILL BE SENT TO THE INTERNAL TABLE WHICH WE DECLARED AT THE BEGINNING.

  • NEED HELP IN REDUCING THE LENGTH OF QUERY WHICH IS ATTACHED IN A FILE PL_SQ

    Hi Everyone,
    THANKS FOR POSTING THE REPLIES FOR MY LAST THREAD. THAT REALLY HELPED. I CAME BACK AGAIN BECAUSE I NEED HELP FROM THIS FORUM IN REDUING THE LENGTH OF MY QUERY WHICH I HAD GIVEN BELOW. i DIDN'T HAD THE CHOICE OF ATTACHING A FILE OF MY DATA HERE.ITS VERY HUGE DATA SO I AM NOT ABLE TO PROVIDE ATLEAST SAMPLE DATA BECAUSE THE COLUMNS ARE OVERLAPPING IF I AM PASTING THE DATA HERE. I HOPE IT WILL BE UNDERSTANDABLE. THE QUERY WHICH I WROTE IS TOO LONG AND TAKING HOURS TOGETHER TO RUN AND DISPLAY RESULT. IT WOULD BE A GREAT FAVOUR TO ME IF ANYONE CAN REDUCE THE LINES IN MY QUERY AND MAKE IT RUN FAST....PLEASE I WAS NOT KNOWING THE WAY HOW TO MAKE IT SHORT. IT HAS MANY LOGICS IN IT... :? PLEASE SUGGEST ME IF THERE IS ANY OPTION FOR ATTACHING A FILE SO THAT I CAN SEND MY SAMPLE DATA...

  • Error erase Queries in Query Manager- The query is used with user-define...

    Hello Experts
    I have deleted a User Field that had a Formatted Search and now I can not remove it because it is linked according to a UF, the error message is as follows:
    "The query is used with user-defined values [Message 952-23]"
    There will be a way to resolve this issue???
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Juan,
    I have tried this very limited, but the formid, is this a number in your case?
    SELECT * from cshs t0 inner join ouqr t1 on t0.queryid = t1.intrnalkey
    where t1.qname = '[%0]'
    Running this query I can get the form id that I need to recreate, but I have a feeling you already know the form id, is this correct?
    - Is there an error when you try to recreate the form id?
    - Will it not let you recreate the same form id because the id is given by the system?
    If it is not possible to recreate the form id, please prepare a backup and log a message. Support should be able to correct the entry in table cshs.
    Hope it helps.

  • Reasons why a query timeout would fail to cancel the query

    Let's say I am running an SQL query via JDBC and then I hit the query timeout I had set on the session. 9 times out of 10 Oracle complies and I get hit with a ORA-01013 user canceled query, as I would expect. But sometimes, it seems the database just doesn't abide by my request. Is that possible? I know it's a "request", so is it truly a request and not a demand? :) Can the database choose to not obey the request or could it be in some state where it cannot comply even if it wanted to?

    Oracle Enterprise Edition 10.2.0.3.0. The application is my application, a Java application that uses Hibernate sessions to communicate with the database in read only mode. I have a query timeout set on the Query object for a particular query. On my instance (Oracle 11g) i never see the occurrence. Oracle always cancels the query with an ORA-01013 right at exactly the 3 minute timeout. On their Oracle 10 instance, we see examples of the query surviving the cancel request and running as long as 10 minutes.

  • How identify the query which cause a SERVERERROR?

    Hi,
    Can I identify the query which called the trigger SERVERERROR?
    I need this because we have a error in our log, and we can not identify the cause.
    Thanks,
    Everson

    Michaeles,
    The problem is here:
    for i in 1 .. ora_sql_txt (v_sql_text)
    Take a look in my trigger code.
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER "LOG_ERRORS" AFTER SERVERERROR ON DATABASE
    declare
    v_osuser VARCHAR2(30);
    v_machine VARCHAR2(64);
    v_username VARCHAR2(30);
    v_program VARCHAR2(64);
    v_error VARCHAR2(1000);
    v_sql_text ora_name_list_t;
    v_sql CLOB;
    v_test varchar2(4000) := 'A';
    BEGIN
    select osuser, machine, program, username into v_osuser, v_machine, v_program, v_username
    from v$session
    where audsid = userenv('SESSIONID') and rownum =1;
    v_test := v_test||'B';
    begin
    for i in 1 .. ora_sql_txt (v_sql_text)
    loop
    v_test := v_test||'C';
    v_sql := v_sql || v_sql_text (i);
    end loop;
    v_test := v_test||'D';
    exception
    when others then
    v_test := v_test||'E';
    v_test := v_test||'F'||substr(sqlerrm,1,100);
    end;
    v_test := v_test||'G';
    v_error := DBMS_UTILITY.FORMAT_ERROR_STACK;
    insert into everson.log_erros_bd(data,osuser,machine,username,program,erro,sql)
    values(sysdate,v_osuser,v_machine,v_username,v_program,v_error||'-'||v_test,v_sql);
    exception
    when others then -- null;
    insert into everson.log_erros_bd(data,osuser,machine,username,program,erro,sql)
    values(sysdate,'ERRO '||v_osuser,v_machine,v_username,v_program,DBMS_UTILITY.FORMAT_ERROR_STACK,v_test);
    END;
    The v_test variable is only for debug, and after the error it contains:
    ORA-04043: object mensagem does not exist
    -ABEFORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error
    ORA-04043: object mensagem does not existG
    How you can see, the v_test jump to 'B' to 'E', jumping the debugs in loop, 'C' and 'D', and in exception I get the message 'ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error'.
    Any idea?

    There is that pitfall in buying HiDpi laptops for Windows.
    Only Photoshop CC 2014 has the option to scale the UI 200% in order to make it usable on these hires screens.
    CC and earlier does not have this and Adobe would have to retrofit them. Not likely with older products.
