Candidates for HANA sidecar usage

Hello folks - we have a financial landscape running ERP6 EHP4 on Oracle RDBMS, and are considering 2 options
1) once ECC/ERP on HANA is available - migrate to HANA from Oracle (so the entire system would run on HANA)
2) setup a sidecar HANA - and then use it for a select group of tables/processes - to help improve performance against those objects (so data from the ERP system would get pulled into the HANA sidecar and queries/jobs would run against the sidecar instead of the original ERP system itself)
For the 2nd option - is there any SAP service or tool that can help us pinpoint what tables would be the best candidates for use in the sidecar?  I can't find this anywhere but would think SAP would be more than happy to guide customers to anything that gets them using HANA. (the first option is probably more long-term for us BTW)
Thanks

Hi Ben,
As you have mentioned, Option 1 should always be the long term approach. However , to leverage the benefits of HANA immediately, suggested approach could be to choose option 2, i.e. HANA is used in side car approach, where in the SAP products - ERP, CRM, SCM etc continue to use classical database , but the table and data in these are replicated to HANA database. This can be done for selected scenarios or select transactions / business processes - ex: - CO-PA or Custom transactions / reports that have huge performance issues.
Following SAP tools can be used to identify potential programs/scenarios for Optimization.
SQLM- SQL Monitor - This logs all the SQL statements that are executed on an ABAP application , would help to identify the programs that have performance issues due to SQL statements. The log for around 1-2 weeks can be checked to identify potential areas of optimization.
SWLT- Performance Tuning Worklist    - Used to combine static check results with SQLM snapshot to identify the hotspots  within programs. We can use this tool in the production system for few days to identify the programs/transactions that need optimization.
Enhanced SCI- Code Inspector  - this tool can be used to perform Static checks within ABAP programs and identify code patterns that could be optimized. This can be very useful for Custom ABAP programs and can be readily used in dev/quality systems as well.
SAP also suggests the use of  Business scenario recommendations report for SAP Business Suite powered by SAP HANA, This report identifies the specific business value scenarios most relevant to you after analyzing your current production usage and your productive SAP landscape. Although this is suggested for option 1, same can be used to identify potential areas of Optimization. Details of the same can be found on www.suiteonhana.com , you will need to upload your production log details so that you can receive your results report by email. The site also has a sample report.

  • What is the definition of "All Projects" in P6 EPPM for the Team Usage Charts?

In P6 Professional 8.3, there is a User Preference setting which can be used to define "All Projects" for the Resource Usage Profile. The choices are: All Open, All Closed except What-if, All Closed with Leveling Priority over x. In P6 EPPM 8.3, there are My Preferences settings. In these settings, I see several choices which are also in the P6 Professional User Preferences, but I do not see a way to set the definition of "All Projects". Does this mean that EPPM uses the SAME settings as selected in P6 Professional or does it mean that "All Projects" is not configurable in P6 EPPM? If it is not configurable in P6 EPPM, what is the definition of "All Projects" in P6 EPPM?

  • How can i decide candidates for line item dimension?

1Q): we have many infocubes out of all these infocubes, i have to decide which infocubes are the candidates for lineitem dimension? How to do it? Please tell me the technical specs how to do the analysis to find out the candidates for line item dimension?
2Q): if i have the small dimension can i combine all these dimension in to one dimension? what is the benefit of doing this? how to find out which dimensions are small?
<u>Pizzaman i like to hear from you on this topic</u>. Thanks to SDN Community. i appreciate your help. Again Thank you.

The process of figuring out what you might want to create as a line item dimension can vary a bit, it can depend a lot on your exisitng level of domain expertise (how well do you know the data in question). If you are familiar with the data, I would recommend you just take an initial guess at what you believe could be line item dimensions.  If you are not familiar witht the data, you might want to examine the source more to understand the cardinality of different characteristics and identify any relationships between characteristics.
I really encourage people to just go ahead and model it and load some data and review, rather than agonizing over developing the theoretically perfect model on paper before they start. You learn a lot more that way.
Any of the SAP rules of thumb, are just that, general rules, not a pronouncement from God.  There are always extenuating or unique circumstances that might warrant disregarding the rule, e.g. if the InfoCube will never become very large, maybe some of the concerns just are not worth your effort.
With every release of the Oracle (and the other DBs too)Oracle keeps getting better at data warehousing and star schemas. Oracle 10i is supposed to have made handling bitmap indices much more efficient, which is on of the  factors influencing the decision to create a line item dimension.
There are other threads on SDN on line item dims that provide more technical detail and can help answer you first question
As far as 2Q - generally, it's better to have several small dimensions than one larger dimension. But having said that, combining a few <b>very small dimensions</b> into another  slightly larger (<i>but still small</i>) dimension is a good idea. It keeps the number of table joins down which will improve query performance. You would do this with characterisitcs that have very few values, e.g. yes/no indicators.
    e.g.
You have 8 characteristics that all of which have only two values. You put them in one dimension, and the max size of the dimension table is still only 2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2 or 256 rows.  If you had these characteristics in other much larger dimensions, it's not hard to see it causing those dimensions to double, perhaps creating hundreds of thousands of dimension table rows to be created.

  • How to find the tables which are the candidates for gathering stats in 10g

    Hi,
In 10g how can we find the tables, partitions which are the candidates for gathering the stats.
I want to findo those tables, partitions and gather the stats on daily basis.
    Thanks,
    Mahi

The probem you describe has been posted about before. There are known issues with the default dbms_stats parameter settings for some environements.
What you can do is just go ahead an manually submit dbms_stats commands with appropriate parameters for tables that have not been analyzed or modify the maintenance window to give it more time.
I would rather just generate the missing statistics myself then the job can continue to run in the normal maintenance window. Since the job should be looking only for tables that meet the stale requirements then once everything is analyzed it is likely the job can keep the statistics updated in the default time allowed.
Be warned that the default parameter settings do not work well for some tables in some environments and if that proves true for your shop you can generate workable statistics on a table and then lock them so the nightly job ships regenerating the statistics for that table. You would then manually unlock, generate, and lock that statistics for that table as necessary.

  • Multiple component instances for one component usage

    Hi,all
How can I create multiple component instances for one component usage.
I'm using the following code for creating  a single component instance for specific component usage:
    if(c_Usage.hasActiveComponent())
          c_Usage.deleteComponent();
    if(wdContext.currentContextElement().getSelectedTab().equalsIgnoreCase("Registered"))
          c_Usage.createComponent("health.gov.registered.Registered";);
I can't create one more component instance for
    IWDComponentUsage c_Usage
cause I have to delete the component instance associated with this component usage.
Any idea how can I do it anyway?
    Regards,
    Michael

    Hi,
To create another instance of the same component you need to embed the same component under the Used Components more then once. For Example if you have Componet A to which you want to embed Component B then under "Used Components" of Component A add component B twice.

    Hi,
I've installed SAP Business One for HANA PL11 successfully but when i try to install sap b1 client on windows client there's an error during the installation of DI API (hanadb client installed already). I also noticed that there's no hardware key generated on the license control center.

    Thanks for your reply.
I have installed (and reinstalled!) the 32 bit hdbclient (build 69) at /usr/sap/hdbclient32 and rebooted but I still don't get a hardware key.  I noticed you mention that you'd executed libB1_LicenseEngine.so manually.  Is that correct? Is this something that you can guide me to?

  • Manager cannot see Candidates for assessment in MSS E-Recruiting.

    Hi All,
    Hope everyone is ding good.
I have an issue in regards with Candidate Assessment by Manager.  Please have a look into this.
I was able to create Requisition and External application from Recruiter dashboard.
I can also complete all the activities including Candidate Assessment by Manager with Questionnaire. Manager was able to complete the questionnaire and assessment successfully.
Finally i could be able to perform Data transfer activity and completed hiring using PA48 Transaction.
But now, I am not able to perform the Candidate assessment by manager as no candidates are appearing in MSS E-Recruiting --> Candidate assessment.
Here in MSS  E-Recruiting I can see the requisitions released by Recruiter, but he cannot see Candidates for assessment.
Any help will be Highly appreciable.
    Thank you in advance.
    -Sekhar

    Hi Sekhar,
Additionally, the recruiter needs to create a questionnaire activity in status planned for a candidate and assign it to the manager linked to the requisition in order to have it in the MSS screen.

  • How to generate columnar PDM for HANA?

    Hi Folks,
I'm quite new to PowerDesigner and have been working on generating a HANA database from MS SQLServer.
Currently I've been able to import a source SQLServer system as a Physical Data Model in PowerDesigner. I was then able to generate SQL DDL scripts to generate the DB manually in HANA, and I also watched a video about how to generate the DB directly in HANA via a connection to the repository which seems straightforward.
The challenge that I'm current facing is how to alter the entire PDM to make *all* tables of type "column" rather than "row". Since SQLServer was the source system, rather than HANA, PowerDesigner appears to default to row store... (shouldn't PD's default storage type for HANA DB's be column store by default? This make substantially more sense than row store by default... but I'm digressing.)
I can see how to do this on a table-by-table basis, but haven't yet figured out how to cascade this setting to the whole PDM. Any assistance would be very much appreciated!
I also tried following this documentation, which didn't help much... it doesn't correspond with the windows/tabs/options that I'm seeing in PD 16.5 - http://infocenter.sybase.com/help/index.jsp?topic=/com.sybase.infocenter.dc38058.1653/doc/html/oba1320752560336.html
    Thanks!

    Hi
If what to want is globally change the Type of all the tables in a PDM, you can do it by using the List of Tables. You display the "Type" column in the grid and change the Type value from Row to Column while doing a multi selection

  • What's the recommended setting for "Process memory usage" ("process virtual" in UI) for a 64-bit host on a 64-bit OS?

    Hi gurus
In resource based throttling, what's the recommended setting for "Process memory usage" ("process virtual" in the resource based throttling tab of the UI) for a 64-bit host
    on a 64-bit Windows OS?
    According to MS (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee308808(v=bts.10).aspx):
    "By default, the
Process memory usage throttling threshold is set to 25. If this value is exceeded and the BizTalk process memory usage is more than 300 MB, a throttling condition may occur. On a 32-bit
server, you can increase the Process memory usage value to 50. On a 64-bit server, you can increase this value to 100. This allows for more memory consumption by the BizTalk process before throttling
    occurs."
Does this mean that 100 is the recommended setting for a 64-bit host on a 64-bit Windows?
    Thanks
    Michael Brandt Lassen

    Hi Michael,
Recommended setting is the default setting which is 25 .dot.
If your situation is abnormal and you see message delivery throttling state to “4” when the following performance counters are high or if you expect any of you integration
process could have impact on following counters, then you can consider the suggestion by Microsoft. Don’t change the default setting.
    High process memory
    Process memory usage (MB)
    Process memory usage threshold (MB)
You can see these counters under “BizTalk:MessageAgent”
You can gauge these performance counter and its maximum values if have done any regression/performance testing in your test servers. If you have seen these counters having
high values and causing throttling, then you can update the Process memory usage.
Or unexpectedly you’re process high throughput messages in production which is causing these counters to go high and cause throttling, then up can update the Process memory
    usage.
The above two cases where I know my expected process usage (by doing performance testing) or suddenly my production server processing has gone high due to unexpected business
hike (or any reasons) which caused throttling, then do changes to default throttling setting.
Just changing the default setting without actual reason could have adverse effect where you end up allocating
more processing capacities but the actual message processing message usage ever is low means you end up investing in underutilised resources.

  • Pre Requisites for HANA?

    HI
May i know the pre-requisites for HANA?
Is SAP BI/BW is required to learn HANA?

    Hi Krishna,
Anybody with knowledge of HANA are eligible. With BW/BI it adds to your skill set, you can understand the modeling concepts better ( any ways the database concepts will be covered here as well ).
One thing you have to understand is that the person with good process knowledge of subject will clear the interview.
So I suggest you learn HANA module and know the basics of BW/BI, that should be all.
