Cannot browse dimension members of a cube in Dashboard Designer

I have a very frustrating problem. I'm trying to make some very basic BI Dashboards on SharePoint 2013 using Dashboard Designer.
I have a cube that I've created in on SQL Server 2012 using BIDS. It builds/deploys/processes just fine and I can browse it in BIDS. When I add a new Data Connection in Dashboard Designer, I can connect to the cube using Secure Store and everything looks
hunky-dory.
However, when I go to set the Time dimension, I run into an issue. I can pick my Time Dimension, but cannot browse the members to select a date. I get a pop error that says "Invalid parameters when querying for the child members of a member or dimension
dashboard designer data connection time." If I ignore the Time dimension and just try to make a basic Analytic Grid, I can't even see my dimensions or measures.
I'm working with SharePoint 2013 and SQL Server 2012. I've already install the SQL Server 2008 R2 AMO dll on the SharePoint server.
Any advice, or even where to look for what the problem might be, would be great, thanks.
[Edited for clarity.]

Hi Dave,
Did you manage to find out what the issue was?  I'm having the same error message and wondered if you'd been able to solve it.
Many thanks

    Dear Raju,
Yes, I did it some times but nothing is happen,
I maintain dimension members, I did it as below:
    - Choose maintain dimension members
    - copy data from excel file and paste into the dimension
    - click process dimension
    Show a dialog
    - Uncheck Take system offine
    This task is successful.
but I go to dimension ACCOUNT in order to insert data,
I came back maintain dimension members : CUSTOMER but I see no data is displayed.
It is the same for ACCOUNT when I want to see data on that dimension

  • Using intersection of dimension members in a SINGLE column/row name

I need help understanding how a single row/column name in a report can be populated with an intersection of two different dimension members of an Essbase cube (ASO). For example, suppose I have two dimensions members in my cube - Sales and Qtr1. Now I want to create a single column-name in my Smartview or FR report called "Sales in Qtr1" that would store values for Qtr1->Sales. Also, i want to have a single column name such as (Qtr1->Sales % Qtr2->Sales).
Is this done via a report script or some other method?
My report would look as follows:
    Sales in Qtr1 | Sales in Qtr2 | Qtr1 Sales as a percent of Qtr2 Sales
    Region1 100 | 200 | 50%
    Region2 25 | 100 | 25%
    Would appreciate any guidance.
    Thanks.
    Axe

Getting the data the way you've described is really easy, just nest the dimensions in Excel (or whatever reporting tool), one dimension over the other.
It's the same for rows as it is columns (okay, in rows instead of columns).
Essbase is very good about doing asymmetrical reports. Take a look at the DBAG and scroll down for the section labelled "Generating Symmetric Reports" -- the second example shows a asymmetric report.
Making the label one cell? A bit hard in Excel -- you'd have to create separate retrieve ranges and report ranges or play a game with hiding rows. Very easy indeed in Financial Reports -- you basically hide a row and put whatever custom label you want in the dimension that remains (technically speaking you could hide both rows and do this with a text row -- whatever you prefer -- but I've generally seen this with the former technique.

  • Account Dimension not showing all members in the cube in Analysis Services

    Hi,
In SAP - BPC 5.1 after processing account dimension all the members are created under account dimension in analysis services but the same cannot be found in the data cube. Hence the reports generated through SAP - BPC is not showing all the members.
The issue looks very strange as we can see the members getting created but the same is not getting populated in the cubes. I am not able to visualize what exacly the issue is? Is it with the application or with the analysis services?
    Thanks
    Sharath

Your sixth sense is correct, there is definitely support in MSAS and BPC 5.1 for multiple hierarchies in the account dimension.
I'm also referring to parentH1 and parentH2, but perhaps we're still speaking of different things.
In the past, I faced a very similar problem as you, and the root cause was because I had one member, let's call it FancyParent, which, in H1, had children Child1 and Child2.
But in H2 it had children Child1, Child2 and Child3. I forget now if that was how I wanted the setup to be, or if it was a mistake on my part, but either way, MSAS doesn't allow this. The admin consol didn't complain when processing the dimension -- this was in Outlooksoft 5.0; perhaps validation has improved now.
But the cube was completely unworkable. Certain things were calculating correctly, but everything in the account dimension in the area around FancyParent (above and below it, in both hierarchies) was quite unpredictable.
By disabling first one, and then the other, of the two hierarchies, and disabling blocks of accounts, I was eventually able to pinpoint the problem. But it took days to figure out what was the problem. (The account dimension had 2500 members and 4 hierarchies, and it was not a pretty sight.)
A parent must have the same definition of children in all hierarchies. It can't, as another example, have children in H1, and be a base member in H2. Each member can have different parents in the two hierarchies, but must always have the same children in both.
To work around this problem, I had to create two separate accounts NetIncomeH1 and NetIncomeH2 (and PretaxIncomeH1, PretaxIncomH2, etc. all the way down to the point where they branched off), to get the two separate aggregations of the P&L in the two hierarchies. Once I did that, it made sense to me why, but I also swore off on frivolous extra hierarchies ever again.

  • Webi report: Issue Cannot retrieve dimensions from Cube

Hello Experts,  We're facing an issue with a partical set of Webi reports in Quality environment. The reports are BW reports based on OLAP BICS connectivity on top of Bex queries.y  Below is the scenario and the issue:  1. The backed Bex queries have been trasported to Quality BW system and they're running fine when run from RSRT or Bex analyzer. 2.The Webi reports along with the BICS connections have been migrated to the Quality box and the BICS connections have been editied so that they point to the Quality BOX bex queries and they're testing and responding to the connection successfully. 3. The Webi reports pointed to the Dev Box in the Dev BOBJ system are working fine, but when the same reports for which the connections were repointed in Quality as above, are giving the error "Cannot Retrieve Dimensions from Cube".  Steps taken: a. Deleted the reports and the BICS connection from Quality environment and remigrated the reports, connecitons and changed the connecitons but still the issue persists. b.Tried finding the root cause and got the following issue in the Bex query in Quality: There are filters put in the Bex query . All other filters are working fine except 0CALMONTH. We tried putting all sorts of variables on 0CALMONTH, but the moment a variable is put on 0CALMONTH, this issue occurs. But when we tried removing the variable from 0CALMONTH in filters and restricted it to a single value, the Report works fine.  However the same is not an issue in the Dev Box and all queries with similar variables are working fine.  So we're thinking this might be an issue on the BW backend and the cube might have to be transported again to the Quality Box.  ANy quick suggestions or inputs on this would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks and regards, Abhishek

    Hi Abhishek,
I am facing same issue.Have you resolve this issue?

  • Hide unrelated dimension members in cube?

    Hi!
I have built a dimension that is used by a few cubes. The thing is that the dimension has a lot of members (consist of all articles in the company) and one of my cube is only relating to a few of these dimension members (articles). Which means that I get ALOT of empty members in the cube. Is there anyway that I can "filter out" these members that have no relation in the cube?
    Example:
The dimension consist of these members: Article01, Article02, Article03. The fact table/cube only got rows/values for Article01 and Article02, but I still got Article03 as a member in the cube. I don't want to have this Article03 dimension member showing up in this cube, but Article03 needs to show in other cubes that uses this dimension.
Is there any way to solve this problem. Tryed to look after some attributesettings to solve the problem, but couldn't find any? Is this problem even possible to solve or do I have to make a new dimension?
    Thanks in advance
    AndersO

Just a note on this issue.  It seems to me that it would be a good idea to include a dimension key attribute property that allows a designer to restrict dimension members to only those that are related to at least one row in any fact table-measure group partition it is joined to.  Role playing dimensions (dimensions that are reused over and over again such as location or organization), have many members that only apply to certain "roles" but are managed in one dimension for the purposes of achieving enterprise wide conformation (data linkages across datamarts).  A property to limit members to only those found in the fact table / measure group partition would be great.  I assume from this thread no such property yet exists.
Cognos Transformer has this.  I like SSAS better but...

  • Cannot change category dimension members

    Hi,
I am trying to change the year property value for member budget in the category dimension but once i change the value and save and reload back, i cannot see the new value i entered. It still shows the old value.
I have read&write access for category dimension. What is the problem then?

    Hi,
Did you process the Category dimension after saving it on the server?
If yes, I suggest that you reprocess your application (Modify application, and check both options there), and then on the Excel side, you should go under eTools and click Refresh dimension members.
Now, you should be able to see your new value for the YEAR property.
    Hope it helps.

  • How to check for a large cube (100K or more dimension members)

    Hi Experts,
We have a customer with trouble returning large data sets.  How can I check for a large cube (100K or more dimension members) on BI7?
Is there a tuning parameter in BW to increase the result buffer?
    Thanks!
    Sapna

You can do a count of the n° of entries in the dimension tables.
    But that's a pain in the ***.
You might consider running program SAP_INFOCUBE_DESIGNS.
This program gives a list of all infocubes with a ratio between the dimensions and fact table.
So you can see if a cube is well-designed or not.

  • Automatic creation of new dimension members

    Hello all,
Bit of a long post so please bear with me.
I am about to embark on only my third BPC project after having spent several years implementing solutions using BusinessObjects Planning (formerly SRC software), and am still struggling to come up with an elegant solution to the fact that I cannot save data to dimension elements unless they are already explicitly defined in the dimension member list (presumably due to cube architecture).
Those of you who have used BOP/SRC will remember this as unvalidated dimensions.
I find having to first go to admin and pre create members before being able to use an input schedule to save data against them is very restrictive.
I'm hoping one of you guys can help me improve on the workaround I currently use.
For example I have a 'bid submission' input schedule that is used by the user to submit bids for increased budget, capital or revenue, capturing basic costs and commentary. The user selects a bid number from a combo box which is populated by using an EVLST formula to read in pre created dimension members. I have to save a flag to the db which I then use to exclude already used numbers when feeding the combo box on future submissions.
Which works ok but if I have a hierarchy on bid number based on say, cost centre, how do I get around the fact that number ranges have to be pre-assigned to cost centre, Cost Centre A = 1 to 1000, Cost Centre B = 1001 to 2000 etc. What happens if I go over the 1000 on Cost centre A? I then get non contiguous ranges per cost centre.
Is it possible for the bid number to be dictated by the user when they start to fill in the bid submission? Or give the impression that they are?
Or if the client has a bid number format that cannot be pre created? Eg incorporating things like year or person etc. This information could be save separately but not within the bid number. Is it possible to save data to dimension property columns from an input schedule?
    Hope you guys can help
    Many thanks

  • Cannot open dimension information: MEASURES issue -- BPC 4.2

Hello Experts!  I started receiving this error today after I added/deleted time dimension members.  I cannot figure out how to correct this.  I have another cube where this is not an issue since it uses a different time dimension, therefore, I know the MEASURES dimension still exists.  How can I reconnect my cube to this dimension again?

Okay, I'm still receiving this pop-up message.
In effort to resolve any loose ends, I went into our category diminsion sheet and NULLed out year properties that no longer existed.  After this completed, I went to 'Manage Application' and saved each of the cubes impacted.
Are there any background references I could check that may be referencing non-existent time dimensions?

  • How can I manage access to dimension members in a layout?

    Hello,
I have a dimension member list of materials (400) on a "material" dimension. But some people have access to one portion of the whole group and others may have access to other groups. But the materials can be shared between groups so I cannot group them in differents hierarchies.
The problem is in the layout you need to select a hierachy to show various rows (the whole group of materiales). The layout shows all the list of materials. Even if the user only have access to 10 of them. I don't know how is the best way for presenting this to the user? It should presents only the 10 rows corresponding to his materials.
One way that I found (but I don't find it acceptable because of the hard effort that represents the maintenance) is to create differents member access profiles and denied the access to each material (dimension member - 390) that the user cannot modified. Then in excel I have to run a macro that hides all the rows that have an empty description in the cell of the material name.
    How can I achive this?
Is there a function in BPC to see if a user have access or not to a dimension member?
The only way to show in a layout various rows is to set in the view a hierarchy?
    Thanks & Regards
    SU

    hi
pl. verify whether this will suit your requirements:
    Material           UG1           UG2
    MAT1               Y
    MAT2                                 Y
    MAT3               Y
    MAT4                                 Y
    MAT5               Y               Y
Now UG1,UG2 diff user groups and property in Material. Assignment of Y is one time job.
At the time of accessing the dimension members can restrict on the basis of UG1="Y" or UG2="Y" property
Here MAT5 is common in both UG1 and UG2
(Hardly may have 3-4 set of users: Accordingly can have UG1,UG2,UG3,UG4 etc.)

  • SSRS with calculated dimension members SSAS

    Hello everybody,
I have an interesting scenario involving a SSRS report with a matrix connected to a SSAS cube containing calculated dimension members.
One of the parameters is "Reference Week".  Based on that parameter, I need the measures for the previous 5 weeks.
So I created an anchor dimension "Analysis Weeks" with the members "Week -1" to "Week -5".
Everything is working fine.  The only problem is the names of the columns on the report.
Currently I have "Current Week", "Week -1", etc. as column names, I'd like to show the real dates.
For example, if I choose "2014-02-15" as the reference week, I want the first column to show "2014-02-15" instead of "Current Week". The second would show "2014-02-08" instead of "Week -1", etc.
I tried to get the current column position in the matrix, which I could use the with @ReferenceWeek parameter, but I can't access that property.
    Any suggestion?
    Thanks

If I understand correctly, your column group is on "Analysis Weeks", is that right? If so just get the value of that field and use it to get the dates.
    =DateAdd("d",-1*CInt(Right(Fields!AnalysisWeeks.Value,1))*7,Fields!ReferenceWeek.Value)

  • Combining relation facts with dimensions from an Essbase cube

    Hi!
I am having trouble combining relational measures (from EBS) with dimensions from an Essbase cube. The dimensions that we want to use for reporting (drilling etc) are in an Essbase cube and the facts are in EBS.
I have managed to import both the EBS tables and the cube into OBIEE (11.1.15) and I have created a business model on the cube. For the cube I converted the accounts dimension to a value based dimension, other than that it was basically just drag and drop.
In this business model I created a new logical table with an LTS consisting of three tables from the relational database.
The relational data has an account key that conforms to the member key of the accounts dimension in the Essbase cube. So in the accounts dimension (in the BMM layer) I mapped the relational column to correct column (that is already mapped to the cube) - this column now has two sources; the relational table and the cube. This account key is also available in the LTS of my fact table.
The content levels for the LTS in the fact table have all been set to detail level for the accounts dimension.
So far I am able to report on the data from the fact table (only relational data) and I can combine this report with account key from the account dimension (because this column is mapped to the relational source as well as the cube). But if expand the report with a column (from the accounts dimension) that is mapped only to the cube (the alias column that contains the description of the accounts key), I get an error (NQSError 14025 - see below).
Seeing as how I have modeled that the facts are connected to the dimension through the common accounts key, I cannot understand why OBIEE doesn't seem to understand which other columns - from the same dimension - to fetch.
If this had been in a relational database I could have done this very easily with SQL; something along the lines of select * from relational_fact, dim_accounts where relational_fact.account_key=dim_accounts.account_key.
    Error message:
[nQSError: 14025] No fact table exists at the requested level of detail

Avneet gave you the beginnings of one way, but left out that a couple of things. First, you would want to do the export of level zero only. Second, the export needs to be in column format and third, you need to make sure the load rule you use is set to be additive otherwise the last row will overwrite the previouse values.
A couple of other wats I can think of doing this
Create a replicated partition that maps the 3 non used dimensiosn to null (Pick the member at the top of the dimension in your mapping area)
Create a report script to extract the data putting the three dimensions in the page so they don't show up.
Use the custom defined function jexport in a calc script to get what you want

  • Deploying app.view in BPMA does not add dimensions/members to application

    Hello,
I've searched the forum for a solution to this problem, but I couldn't find any.
    Problem:
I'm working on Hyperion Planning 9.3.1.0.66, EPMA version is 9.3.1.0.0.73, Workspace version is 9.3.1.0.0.248. I've created a classic application that was later upgraded. Now, I need to make some changes to dimensions (add some generic dimensions) and add some members to an existing dimension. Everthing is set in workspace and added to the application view. Validation of the application view is successful, so is the deployment (both create outline and refresh outline were tested, in all combinations), however when I open the application, or verify the outline in Essbase, there is no changes in the outline (no new dimensions/dimension members added, etc.)
Does anyone know the reason for such application behaviour?
Is there any solution/fix to solve the problem?
    Best regards
    Marcin Stawny

    Hi,
I would definitely recommend patching EPMA and Planning to the latest patches, many issues have been addressed with EPMA and it is should always be the first steps if you have issues.
You can download the following patches from Metalink3
    8211868 - System 9 Release 9.3.1.1.10 Service Fix
    7305465 - EPMA 9.3.1.1.5 Service Fix
    7272558 - EPMA 9.3.1.1.4 Service Fix
    7209507 - EPMA 9.3.1.1.3 Service Fix
    7161248 - EPMA 9.3.1.1.2 Service Fix
    7227802 - EPMA 9.3.1.1 Service Pack
    7110941 - EPMA 9.3.1.1.1 Service Fix
They include readmes instructing on how to patch.
This maybe related to your issue which was fixed in patch 9.3.1.1.6
7117173 - You cannot incrementally deploy Oracle’s Enterprise Performance Management Architect (EPMA) applications to Planning.
