Cannot choose specific file on a folder to copy

My MBA Maverick 10.9.4 behave strangely last night ,
when I want to transfer some file to VLC ( iOS 7.1.2 ) using iTunes file sharing , I cannot choose specific file e.g. a movie from a folder , but it copy all the movies in the folder to my iPad 7.1.2 .
I tried again with iPhone 5s 7.1.2 and iPod Touch 6.1.4 but also failed .
Reboot the Mac also failed .
iPhoto and ifunbox also face the same problem..
.Do I need to reinstall 10.9.4??

I am wondering whether it is possible to pick a specific file from a folder. I have a shape where I have got a filename and I need to look for it in a folder.
Is that possible?
And how can I achieve this? The next step is to pick the file up and transfer it to another location. So basically in pseudo code I need to ask my defined folder with a filename as parameter. Get the file and move it to another folder.

Assuming you are using orchestration, you could
create an assembly, install it in the GAC, add a reference to it in your BTS
project, and call it from an Expression shape to resolve the receive
location. You would only really need one static method in a class. Be sure
to add a reference to Microsoft.BizTalk.ExplorerOM.dll.

Adobe PDF (Print) presets: "Cannot create the file. The folder may be write protected."

In Windows 8, this feature of InDesign CS6 only works for the local Administrator account:
File -> Export -> Save as type: Adobe PDF (Print) -> Save -> Save Preset... -> OK
If you try it with any other account this error message is given: "Cannot create the file. The folder may be write protected."
For anyone else encountering this problem, a workaround is to run as administrator.

Which permissions exactly did you set, how did you set them and what did you set them to?
The path to the Drop Box would be /Users/someuser/Public/Drop Box but you obviously wouldn't want the ownership and permissions to be the same on all four directories.
Have you tried using Disk Utility (/Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility) to repair permissions? That would probably be the best way to ensure they're correct.

Cannot delete specific files.

I am unable to delete certain files, but I can delete others. Finder says "The operation cannot be completed because the item...is in use." I have tried:
*Alt+Empty Trash
*Secure delete
*Empty trash from the Terminal
*Repair permissions
*Verify disk
*Various utilities (Trash it!, OnyX, etc.)
*Restart
*Closed all applications
I have noticed that if I try to delete from the Terminal it says "rm: /Users/mymacrules/.Trash/Cannot Delete/nl.lproj: Directory not empty". I also tried to move one file that would not delete from the trash, this file disappears when I click on it, but is there after restart. As long as that specific file is on the desktop it also makes another folder disappear. Even though I can't see it in Finder I can see it with the "ls" command. Any ideas?

Right. The rm command by default will not delete nonempty directories. To force it to, use the recursive flag:
rm -r /Users/mymacrules/.Trash/Cannot Delete/nl.lproj
But keep in mind that I'm just a Unix person...people like Joshz who know MacOS better than me may know good reasons to not use the Terminal to try to empty the trash.

Did you assign the signature to the e-mail address you are using? Mail/Preferences/Signatures - select the account and use the + to add the signature to that account.

In finder cannot easily change files from one folder to another. Drag and drop does not work. There should a cut and paste feachure.

OS X is all about keyboard shortcuts.
To cut       cmd+x
To copy     cmd+c
To paste    cmd+v
With the Mouse, hold command and drag to your destination.

Script to take every 5th file from a folder and copy it to another folder

How can I tell applescript to take every 5th file of a folder of say 2000 files and copy them to another location? I want to copy the 5th, 10, 15th, 20th files and so on of 2000 files so I will have only 400 files.
I guess I want to make a list of all the files and then coerce that to the first and then increments of five but how do I do that?

I would perform this task by using a Script Task the System.IO classes. The task would have access to an SSIS variable that was the directory path. The task would get a listing of the files in the directory. Another Boolean package variable would be set
to True if all ten file where present. A conditional expression on the workflow using this Boolean variable would control whether execution continued or not.

"N01_BB_InstallGuide_EN_US.doc" does not exist, or file is empty; you cannot upload empty files.

Summary
Symptom
The upload of a file into a KM repository fails. Sometimes the user gets the error message "<file> does not exist, or file is empty; you cannot upload empty files."
Reason and Prerequisites
Either the portal engine or the operating system on which the portal runs has troubles with writing into the directory that is defined as store for temporary data.
Solution
1. With the config tool of the engine, edit/add the following two entries to the server node java parameters:
Example:
-Djava.io.tmpdir=e:\EP_TEMP
-Dcm.tmpdir=e:\EP_TEMP
These must point to an existing and accessible directory on the server.
2. TEMP and TMP environment variables of operating system are to be set that they point to an existing and accessible directory.
In case of Microsoft Windows, go to Settings > Control Panel > System, then choose the tab "Advanced" and the button "Environment Variables". There you can edit/create the two variables.
Set them to the same directory that were selected for the engine parameters and especially make sure that none of the temp variables has a value with percentage characters ("%") or other placeholders but a particular directory.
Example: e:\EP_TEMP
Afterwards, give the user SAPService<SID> write-access rights to the selected temporary folder and restart the Windows machine

Cannot open a a file with a specific file name

I have 1 person who cannot open or save a file with a specific file name on his computer. If he does it at another computer he is fine, no one else has this issue. The error he gets when trying to open the file is { Cannot create file:missingperson.pdf. Right-click the folder you want to create the file in, and then click Properties on the shortcut menu to check your permissions for the folder}
Any ideas on how to resove this. He gets this file sent to him on a regular basis, and cannot have the file name changed.

I have run across something similar. Assuming that this PDF they are getting through email is the same name, then this is how I fixed my problem.
When you get a file in an email and open it, it writes that file to the Temporary Internet Files folder. Lets assume the file name is filename.pdf If you open a file from email with the same name at a later time, it creates a file called filename(1).pdf. Open a file with the same name again, it creates filename(2).pdf, and so on. Once you get to filename(99).pdf, it will start giving you a lot of trouble. When I cleared out those filename.pdf's, everything went back to normal.

Cannot delete file from shared folder

While I was looking for another file in my shared folder, I discovered a jpg file named shannonhenry.jpg. All it appears to be is a school photo of a boy, maybe 14 or so. I tried to move it to trash to delete it because I do not know who this kid is, and I got an error message saying that I do not have sufficient priviledges. Anyone know what this file is or could be????

Well Kelley, that photo did not come with the system so it had to come from you or someone else putting in the Shared folder.
Choose the file and "get info" (command- i) turn the dislclosure triangle on "Ownership & Permissions" make sure you can "read & write" and make yourself the "owner"(open the lock and enter your admin password).
Then check under General, turn the disclosure triangle and be sure the "locked" box in NOT checked.

Thanks Niel for the script, unfortunately I am too ignorant about running these on my own, I did save it in my user script library, but I would need instructions to run it. I would be really grateful.
I did try making up my own workflow using the given actions in Automator, the first action was to 'find specific files in finder' ending with .zip and .rar and then choosing another action which 'moves selected files to trash'. Unfortunately it ended up running only if I specify the path to the specific .zip file, which defeats the purpose. Any suggestions on the proposed workflow? Thanks in advance.
