Cannot connect to an SMB Windows share point in Yosemite.

After upgrading to Yosemite this weekend, I am no longer able to connect to a Windows server that worked fine in Mavericks. Does anyone know a solution that I can work on my end that does not involve the server? This is not a server that I can access to make changes on.
Thanks,
Scott

Scott, did you have disable the device signing in the prior OS 10.9? Or did you do it in Yosemite? I am having a similar issue but I cannot support the OS edit to the enable. This needs to be a simple setting/adjustment for stablity reasons in my opinion, here are a few refernces:

Ipod classic 160GB very slow sync and cannot connect to itunes store windows 7 ansd itunes 10.6.0.40. I have now been trying for 3 weeks to restore my iPod. Really frustrated, any ideas would be welcome.

Cured the problem! Reinstalled an earlier version of itunes from oldapps.com (version 10) now everything works as it should. I would suggest that if you are experiencing these problems that you do the same. I must say that it is a brave business decision on behalf of apple to effectively lock out all windows 7 users from their products and sales channels and I can only wish them luck in this very shortsighted policy.

  • Cannot connect from iMac to Windows Home Server 2011 shares

    Hi guys,
I am having dificulties connecting from iMac to Windows Home Server 2011 shares.
First of all it takes so long time to discover the share in iMac, which it's called "mediaserver". After finding it i cannot connect and gives "Connection Failed: message. If i choose "Connect As.." option i wait some time and then pops out with an error: "There was a problem connecting to the server "mediaserver". The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."
If i try from Finder -> Go -> Connect to Server ... write in Server Address : smb://mediaserver it fails. But if i write the IP address, like: smb://192.168.1.42 it works after couple of tries. If i try now to Make an Alias for the share i get "The operation can't be completed. An unexpected error occurred (eror code -8060)."
Has anyone experienced these problems ? I have updated to Mac OS X version 10.7.3. Could that be the problem ?
Any help will be much appreciated.
    Thank you in advance,
    Simi

You need to reinstall the updated WHS connector for Mac.  You should then be able to access your shares on WHS 2011.
The problem I'm having is I can't get Time Capsule to recognize the WHS 2011 mapped folders that show up on the desktop as a drive, so Backup won't work.

  • Windows XP PC won't connect to Snow Leopard server share points

Cabled network. Two imacs and two pc's. All apart from one PC won't connect.
The Other PC is running the same Windows and connects, see's share points and login using correct user name and password. The Other pc, see's the server under workgroup, but when you go to connect it just whirs away and does nothing. The PC in question connects to internet, prints on network printer fine.
Disabled firewall and checked settings and they are the same as the other pc. Really stumped.
    anybody got any clues?

    The "Trust, but verify" follows...
Launch the MS-DOS command box on Microsoft Windows XP.
Verify IP network connectivity with ping. Ping the Samba/CIFS server by IP, then by name. Ensure that the box you're connecting to is the one you think it is; that can be via telnet or web connections or otherwise; make sure your IP network is configured the way you believe it is, and you're getting to the host you think you're reaching.
If the IP address connection works but the domain name (host name) does not, then debug the DNS validity with dig or nslookup, and ensure the client can get DNS translations.
Verify that the [Windows registry settings|http://labs.hoffmanlabs.com/node/1590] allow access to Samba/CIFS shares.
If you're not running Microsoft Windows 7 and the x86 gear here supports it, definitely upgrade. Windows 7 is a vast improvement over earlier releases, including over Windows XP.

  • Cannot connect via cable on Windows XP home SP2

    Good Afternoon,
Maybe you can assist me here.
I cannot connect via cable my N91 (4 gb hdd) to Windows XP Home SP2. I can however connect via cable to my work computer which has the OS Windows XP Pro sp2.
In both cases both OS's are up to date, I have updated the phone OS to v2.10.013 RM-43. I am using the most up to date drivers that is available on nokia.com as well as the current ed of PC Suite (6.82.22.0)
The following is the steps I followed in both cases starting with XP Pro
    1. Installed Drivers
    2. Installed PC Suite
    3. When prompted by PC Suite connected Phone via cable to Computer, further install steps were required. No reboot required. PC Suite then picked up phone
    XP Home
Followed steps 1 + 2 in the same order
    3. Connected N91 to XP Home computer, after driver install activity rebooted computer as requested. Disconnected N91 On reboot to desktop, in PC Suite I clicked on Get connected. Select Cable connection when prompted attached cable to computer and then to phone, on the phone select PC Suite. .
At this point I get the hour glass and nothing happens, Next is ghosted. It has been like this for 20 mins.
I have uninstalled both the drivers and the software. For some reason the updater can connect to the phone.
Can you advise on what I can do.

    Hi
Sounds lik ethe PC is having issues seeing it. Try this

    Try this first:
    1. Go to Windows' Control Panel and open "Add or Remove Programs" application.
    3. Select "PC Connectivity Solution", click "Change" and then "Repair".
    4. After Repair, restart PC

  • Mavericks won't connect to Snow Leopard server share points

I have 3 imacs, running mavericks which won't successfully log onto Snow Leopard server share points.
The server appears on the list on the left and i get to a login screen when i select the server.
I enter the username and password and the box just shakes.
However if I tick the "access as administrator" in the user prefs on the server, it can connect, however i don't want certain users to have admin rights.
The strange thing is, is that if i choose to login with a user name and password for one of the older macs (10.6), i can log in. But that defeats the object.
This is obviously an authentication issue between mavericks and SL.
    Any one else had this?
    Thanks in advance.

  • The restor pocess did not succeed because your computer cannot connect to the server - Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials Experience

    Hi all
I've been running Windows Server 2012 R2 with the Essentials Experience in test for a Windows 8.1 client environment, on an HP ProLiant MicroServer N54L. Overall I've found the Essential Experience set-up over WHS2011 and WHSv1 okay; still looking to extract
any real value over the former versions.
This box has been up and running for a few months now, with client backups of a Win 8.1 box scheduled and running successfully every day. However when trying to conduct any file restores from the backups, to the client, I receive an error dialog once I go
    through motions from the Dashboard:
On the 'Devices' tab, right-click the appropriate client and select 'Restore files or folders for the computer'
'Restore Files of Folders' dialog pops up, asking me to 'Choose a backup' from the list of all the backups that have run
Select any one in the list - have tried numerous backups; automatic, manual, etc. same result every time
Brings up the dialog to 'Choose a volume', choose either C: or D: partitions of the same fixed drive - again, no difference which one I choose, the outcome is the same
'Opening the volume' dialog starts, with progress bar, runs to about 4% complete the pops up the dialog 'The restore process did not succeed'. Full error in the dialog, "The restore process did not succeed because your computer cannot connect to the
server. Make sure that the computer is connected to the networkm and then try again
If my computer cannot connect to the server - how can I get that far? How can I open the dashboard, select a client, select from a list of backups, select a volume to restore, etc. What is going on here?

    Hi,
Please check if a "host" entry for the server is added to the client. For more detailed information, please refer to the threads below:

  • Accessing SMB/Windows Shares on OS X

I have an invisible windows share called public$, which I allow anyone to (read-only) access on my network. But to be able to access it on a mac I had to give it a password. Are there anyways around this password problem? On windows machines I am able to access this folder without the need for authentication which is what I want since this is read-only and contains documents for general public use which I need the public to automatically have access to it without the need for authentication.

SMB never really likes symbols in shares.
A couple of things. Is this part of a Windows Domain (200,2003, 2008) or part of a Home network? Plus make sure the Mac and Windows machine are using the same Time Server. Also check out the reader reports at MacWindows.com:Snow Leopard and File Sharing Tips and Rerports because one of the current reports might help you.

  • Timemachine Succesfully backing up to SMB windows share

Hi After much googling a post on this page
    http://forum.dsmg600.info/viewtopic.php?pid=7395#p7395
states the following command allows timemachine to backup to any mounted network share, and they are correct. I am succesfully running my 1st backup to a Windows share over SMB. Will keep you posted on how it goes. But here is the command:
    defaults write com.apple.systempreferences TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes 1

I have been running Time Machine on an network SMB mounted partition for a couple of weeks (using the trick where you disabled the time machine disk check
    defaults write com.apple.systempreferences TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes 1)...
I know it was a bad idea... but I have plenty of SMB space available at my lab, while no real hard disk (until today )

Do you see where I am coming? this is already scary... it deleted ALL but one backups, without recovering one byte... Jez... without a warning (despite the check box in the TM pref option pane)
    Look at this:
    [zig:~] felix% mount
/dev/disk0s2 on / (hfs, local, journaled)
    devfs on /dev (devfs, local)
    fdesc on /dev (fdesc, union)
map -hosts on /net (autofs, automounted)
map auto_home on /home (autofs, automounted)
//[email protected]/local/users/felix on /Volumes/felix (smbfs, nodev, nosuid, mounted by felix)
    This is the SMB partition:
    [zig:~] felix% df -g /Volumes/felix/
Filesystem 1G-blocks Used Available Capacity Mounted on
    //[email protected]/local/users/felix 66 63 3 96% /Volumes/felix
    [zig:~] felix% ls /Volumes/felix/
    Zig_0017f2c89d46.sparsebundle/
    [zig:~] felix%
<here I mounted the sparsebundle image using the finder>
    [zig:~] felix% mount
/dev/disk0s2 on / (hfs, local, journaled)
    devfs on /dev (devfs, local)
    fdesc on /dev (fdesc, union)
map -hosts on /net (autofs, automounted)
map auto_home on /home (autofs, automounted)
//[email protected]/local/users/felix on /Volumes/felix (smbfs, nodev, nosuid, mounted by felix)
/dev/disk2s2 on /Volumes/Backup of Zig (hfs, local, nodev, nosuid, journaled, mounted by felix)
    [zig:~] felix% df -g /Volumes/Backup\ of\ Zig/
Filesystem 1G-blocks Used Available Capacity Mounted on
    /dev/disk2s2 132 129 3 98% /Volumes/Backup of Zig
So the Backup partition pretend to use 129 Gig (weird as its containing SMB partition is 66 Gig big) and 3 Gig left...
    [zig:~] felix% cd /Volumes/Backup\ of\ Zig/
    [zig:/Volumes/Backup of Zig] felix% ls
    Backups.backupdb/
    [zig:/Volumes/Backup of Zig] felix% ls Backups.backupdb/
    Zig/
    [zig:/Volumes/Backup of Zig] felix% ls Backups.backupdb/Zig/
    2007-11-20-141210/ 2007-11-20-151041.inProgress/ Latest@
[zig:/Volumes/Backup of Zig] felix% sudo du -sk .
    Password:
    35637816 .
But all the files on this partition amount to 35 gigs... (which is indead more or less the size of one backup)... where are the other 31 gig gone? My explanation is that the space has not been properly recovered after the old backups deletion... (which indeed also explains why backupd deleted ALL but one backups)
In any case, I would advise any SMB mounted partition Time Machine user to NOT rely completely on those backup. I will try to see if one can recover the space in a sparsebundle image... but even so, it makes the whole process dangerous.
    You have been warned...
    Moreover:
    [zig:/Volumes/felix] felix% hdiutil compact Zig_0017f2c89d46.sparsebundle
    Starting to compactâ¦
    Reclaiming free spaceâ¦
    Finishing compactionâ¦
Reclaimed 19.5 GB out of 97.9 GB possible.
    [zig:/Volumes/felix] felix% df -g .
Filesystem 1G-blocks Used Available Capacity Mounted on
    //[email protected]/local/users/felix 66 43 22 66% /Volumes/felix
    [zig:/Volumes/felix] felix%
Note that I only recover (by hand) 22 gig while 31 should be available... but this is explained in man hdiutil:
"For SPARSEBUNDLE images, completely unused band files are simply removed."
Completely... so Iguess only 22 gig of bands were free 9 gigas are in band which are partially used by good data.
    [zig:/Volumes/felix] felix% cd /Volumes/Backup\ of\ Zig/
    [zig:/Volumes/Backup of Zig] felix% df -g .
Filesystem 1G-blocks Used Available Capacity Mounted on
    /dev/disk2s2 132 109 22 83% /Volumes/Backup of Zig
    [zig:/Volumes/Backup of Zig] felix%
So the space has been indeed returned to the SMB volume... and I was able to restart TM after that and complete a backup...
In any case, I say it again... do not rely on SMB mounted partition based TM backup.
As for me, I am ordering a 200 gig external HD :-D

Check the server name or IP address ,

I'm having the same issue using my Mac.  I did try going through the account setup on my Mac Mail for my verizon.net account and it automatically set it up using the old settings(very interesting).  It wants to use incoming.verizon.net and outgoing.verizon.net.  That actually worked.  I got a test message.  It was slow but did receive but sending one out from outgoing.verizon.net did not work.  Obviously they are having major problems with this switch-over.  There is nothing on the website about problems so my guess is they fouled up and are trying to recover without taking the fall again.

I'm browsing a Windows share and for whatever reason it will not let me open Excel files directly from the network location. If I view the Coverflow, I can see a a preview of the actual file as well as copy it to the desktop and open it.
I receive an error message that says "filename.xls could not be found."
I can open up any other file from the network location, but not Excel files.
I checked the file permissions and they mirror the other file types, it may be worth mentioning that I utilize network synchronization and view these files from a PC as well. I also noticed when I create a new file in that location, it will only appear in OS X and not Windows, but is still completely accessible.
    Any help is appreciated!
    Thanks

  • How do I stop the Finder from seeing SMB (Windows) shares on the network?

I have the OPPOSITE problem most people have -- Windows Sharing works TOO WELL.
I've donated a refurbished eMac to the local homeless shelter. I figured I'd made the system secure, and prevented any monkey business. Turns out the windows machines on the network are COMPLETELY insecure (guest access to everything is enabled). The problem is that the Mac is TOO friendly -- it automatically connects to the server as a guest, and happily presents everything to the user.
I've tried a dozen different things (I've removed the 'Shared' section from the sidebar in the Finder windows (Go->Network is still there, Doh.), tried to turn off File Sharing, and even disabled the mount_smbfs command in the /sbin directory with "chmod 0 mount_smbfs".)
I've asked the folks there to call in a PC tech and fix their security problem -- but it's a good question to which I've found no suitable answer... How to I stop the Mac from connecting to SMB Shares on the local network?
    Thanks.
    -JD.

Same problem, keep getting a pop up with connection failed you do not have permission to access the server. The server is a windows 7 box, Starting happening after an up grade to windows 7. Nowhere can I find how to stop trying to connect. I am sure its at the unix level of samba but what to do is another question

  • 10.9.2 Mavericks and can no longer connect to our SMB file share on the network.

Smb was working under 10.9.1. Now  smb and usning the finder I get "connection failed".  Both of my NAS are not out when i am using my mac book pro  thru the wifi connection.    Is any one else have the same problem?

Same story here - smb:// worked under 10.9.1, but the Update 10.9.2 broke it.
    Some facts:
    Mac Book Pro Retina 2012
Network connection is over WLAN (The connection is very stable and no issues else where)
The issue seems to be caused when there are larger files (> 500MB) in the share
smb:// works for shares with lots of folders but only small files in them
smb:// and cifs:// are both almost unusable
smb://  shows a blank screen for ages- Finder will eventually hang up
cifs:// will connect fast (wow!), but the connection is very unstable for larger files
The funny part is, that Mavericks (pre 10.9.2) was the first OS X which fixed most SMB issues of its predecessor. (SMB2 was somwhat slow, but quite usable) Now, I can not really use my Mac to work...
Moral of the story, I think I will switch to Ubuntu 14 when it is released in April - it should support HDPI Displays.

  • Software Cannot Connect to Internet in Windows 8.1 Pro x64

I am not able to use FB poster & scheduler with my version of Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit.
But my friend who have the same Windows can run this piece of software without any issue. I tried uninstalling my anti-virus, firewall exception list, trusted sites list still no use.
The same message pop-ups whenever I open this software. What should I do now?
I cannot post images now. This is the reply I am getting as of now:
"An error occurred while trying to connect to NTWEB server. Please try again.
    ERROR DETAILS:
    Not found
    SOURCE:
    System.Management"

I tried clean boot yet still getting the same error message. Why this happens?
