Cannot connect to gmail - "invalid certificate" [SOLVED]

Hi!
When I try to connect to gmail I get a "Secure Connection Failed" error:
An error occurred during a connection to www.google.com.
You have received an invalid certificate. Please contact the server administrator or email correspondent and give them the following information:
Your certificate contains the same serial number as another certificate issued by the certificate authority. Please get a new certificate containing a unique serial number.
(Error code: sec_error_reused_issuer_and_serial)
I have no idea what caused this and can't find anything about it. It's pretty annoying as my check-new-mail script says I got 6 new mails :S
Anyone got a clue?
Edit: I'm using Firefox 3.5, or "Shiretoko". Seems like it came with the upgrade somehow, but it works on other machines running the same version.

I had already deleted the google certificate without getting further, but now I deleted cert8.db and key3.db under ~/.mozilla/<my profile folder>/ because I was getting a bit frustrated
Now it works! It must've used a certificate with another name that got blasted when I did a full purge.
Thanks anyway, I don't think I would've tried it if you hadn't posted!

  • IPhone Mail App cannot connect with gmail iMap server

So my gmail address list or contacts seems to have been hacked and all my contacts who are still talking to me have told me so.
So I changed my gmail password.
No more complaints, and probably no more friends as contacts.
But seriously, I have been able to get gmail (web) working with my new double authentication password(s). Also, my outlook for MAC is working using the special "generated App Password". (because Outlook cannot do the double authentication thingie)
Ditto for the gmail app from google on my iPhone. (it works too)
    BUT
I cannot get the iPhone Mail App to connect to Gmail.
I have deleted (i thought) my existing gmail setup from my iPhone. When I try to re establish the gmail settings, using either the password generated by the MAC / iCloud keychain generator or the App password, I get the message "My Name" is already added.
It looks to me that there is something in the iPhone that matches my gmail address, even though I deleted the account.
Any suggestions before I call Apple for help?
    Thanks
    Barry

    I think so.
Actually I think I need to get the App Password for Mail on my phone. It generates the app password and I enter it into the password in the gmail setup for mail.
The problem is that when I hit next on that page, I get the message:
"my name" is already added" and I cannot proceed.
Before doing this setup I deleted my gmail account by tapping the email address and hitting delete in the Mail, Contact and Calendars setup..
but, there is something hiding in my iPhone that remembers my old gmail password (I guess) and doesn't let me proceed.
If I enter my gmail iChain password I get the same thing.
If i do this in airplane mode (no connection to google) i also get the same.
I talked to an apple care person who had me reset all my settings... still the same thing.
I am trying to avoid a gull reset of the iPhone, but that may be in the cards.
Going to go to the apple store and ask there, but i am not hopeful.

  • Can't connect to gmail-invalid username or password

I have an iPad 2 3GS running iOS 5.0.1. My Gmail was working fine up until today. For some reason, I cannot get my mail, and the errorI get says:
    Cannot Get Mail
The user name or password for "[email protected]" is incorrect.
I tried changing my password, did not work. I've tried restoring my iPad,  still does not work. I've tried changing the imap and pop settings. Still nothing works. All of my other accounts with Gmail are working fine on both, except for this one.
When I log into my account through the Gmail website, everything works fine. It's strictly when I use it on iPad.
Please help. It's been nearly 4 days since I've had access to my email with my iPad.

  • Cannot connect to GMail via iPad or iPod Touch any...

    Hi,
Just moved house from BT standard broadband to BT Infinity.  I now also use the BT Homehub 3.  All fitted today and working well.  Apart from my iPad and iPod devices no longer work with GMail.
I use IMAP connectivity which worked fine previously and I can no longer connect.  Strange as it worked with BT before (although not with a BT Homehub) so has anybody seen this problem too?
    Thanks
    Mark

I assume you have it all set up on the IPAD as follows (via the setting app and the mail section therein)
Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server - requires SSL:
imap.gmail.com Use SSL: Yes Port: 993
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - requires TLS:
smtp.gmail.com (use authentication) Use Authentication: Yes Use STARTTLS: Yes (some clients call this SSL) Port: 465 or 587
    Account Name:
your full email address (including @gmail.com) Google Apps users, please enter username@your_domain.com
    Email Address:
your full Gmail email address ([email protected]) Google Apps users, please enter username@your_domain.com
    Password:
    your Gmail password
It should not be a port issue if you are pulling mail, that would only be a problem if you were wanting it to be pushed.
BTW personally I use pop for the mail, pop.gmail.com port 995 so you could always try that as well.

  • I can't access my gmail from my iPhone or mac?  It says I can't connect to gmail.

When I open to mail, a pop up says: "mail cannot connect to gmail acct."

    Hello susansmaider,
It sounds like neither of your 2 devices can connect to your Gmail account. I would start with trying the steps in the following article for your iPhone:
    iOS: Troubleshooting Mail
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3899
Tap Safari and attempt to load a webpage (try any webpage). If you can load a webpage, then your device has Internet access. If you are unable to load a webpage, follow these troubleshooting steps.Try to use an alternate Internet connection if available:
    Try a different Wi-Fi connection
If your iOS device has an active cellular data plan, tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn off Wi-Fi.
If the affected email account is provided by your Internet provider, see if your issue is resolved while connected to your home Wi-Fi network.*
Log in to your email provider's website to ensure that the account is active and the password is correct.
    Restart your iOS device.
Delete the affected email account from your device.
Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Choose the affected email account, then tap Delete Account.
    Add your account again.
And this article for your Mac:

  • On Mini iPad cannot connect to iTunes or AppStore when signed in - works on other devices. iTunes states that server certificate invalid - any ideas?

When signed in with valid Apple ID have started receiving the following message when trying to open iTunes 'The certificate for this server is invalid. You might be connecting to a server that is pretending to be "itunes.apple.com" which could put your confidential information at risk.'
When I try to access teh App Store it says "Cannot connect to server"
When re-entering Apple ID and Password in Settings I get 'Cannot connect to iTunes Store'.
This is a new problem - I have been connected until very recently and the Apple ID and connectivity are fine on other devices...
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Saw this on another post.
Applecare Senior Advisor Txx Bxxx (I have his contact info in an email he just sent) just confirmed with me that the problem people are having with the App Store not loading is an apple issue with there servers, ITS NOT YOUR IPAD so don't go restoring it!   It's not happening to everyone however but they are looking into it, its really hit or miss.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
This works for some users. Not sure why.
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time> Set Automatically>Off. Set the date ahead by about a year. Then see if you can connect to the store.

  • How do I set the "When an OCSP server connection fails, treat the certificate as invalid" in Firefox for Android?

Due to the security concerns from Heartbleed and Steve Gibson's excellent coverage on certification revocation, I have set "When an OCSP server connection fails, treat the certificate as invalid" on my desktop Firefox and now want to do the same on Firefox for Android. I cannot find anything in the settings menu to allow this. Is it done through about:config and if so, what is the setting name there?

hello mcvickerp, in about:config you can switch the setting "security.OCSP.require" to true.

Hello, my sister her macbook pro cannot connect to our wireless internet. My imac however can, so the problem has to do with her laptop. We were wondering how we could solve this problem? Thank you very much in advance!

We did that, but it just doesn't seem to be able to connect. So basically we tried to connect to our network and insert the password, but afterwards it does nothing. Weird thing is also that the network symbol (top right of the screen) says that it has been connected, but when I go look at the system preferences --> network, it states that it has not been connected

    Hi,
I have a problem when trying to sign emails with an X.509 certificate in Outlook 2010. I constantly get the error message. The certificate is Verified for the email address I'm sending from.
    "Invalid Certificate
Microsoft Outlook cannot sign or encrypt this message because you have no certificates which can be

Yet, Outlook still says it is invalid.I have even tried installing a second X.509 for the same email address just to check. Outlook doesn't seem to like either certificate.I know this has been posted before, but I'm completely stuck here. Thanks,~Dan

    Hi,
You may have checked the option "Encrypt contents and attachments for outgoing messages" in Outlook, please uncheck this to test if the problem persists.
File -> Options -> Trust Center -> Trust Center Settings -> E-mail Security -> Clear the checkbox "Encrypt contents and attachments for outgoing messages" -> OK.
