Cannot convince Aperture 3 to create 1920X1920 previews...

It seems there is a bug in Aperture 3.0.0 and 3.0.1
I chose my previews to fit within 1920X1920.
However, Aperture seems to ignore this most of the time.
For example:
Select 100 photos => Delete Previews => Generate/Update Previews.
Now, *only a few* of them will have properly sized previews. Most of the previews are much smaller than 1920.
It seems that the process that creates the previews encounters a problem that messes up its internal state, and then continues to create previews of another size.
This is very frustrating, especially if you have many offline masters like I do.
Most of my masters are raw files from Canon EOS 5D Mark I and II.
Some masters are of type raw+jpeg.
Can anybody confirm this?

This is what I've discovered so far.
Quit Aperture (and automatically generate previews) --> launch iTunes:  iPhoto Albums show up in iTunes but smart albums all missing
If I proceeded to sync my iPhone with iTunes, it will delete all my photos off my phone because nothing is synced!
Quit Aperture (and automatically generate previews) --> launch iPhoto --> quit iPhoto --> launch iTunes:  Smart albums correctly show up, and correctly 'ticked' to indicate it will sync.
I suspect this is a limitation of using a supposedly 'unified' iPhoto Library in Aperture, but it isn't listed in the "Using the Unified Photo Library" guide at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5043?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US.
Effectively though, it appears to me to be a data loss bug in the current implementation of Aperture / iTunes Library sharing.
I've tried to import my iPhoto Library to a new Aperture Library to no avail.

  • Aperture not creating previews - one reason

I've been investigating why Aperture is failing to create previews. In my system it will only create previews for a specific set of images and not matter what I do it's always the same images.
So I looked at the difference between the images it would create previews for and the image it would not. The difference I found was that the images which Aperture would not create previews for no longer had their import directories.
Aperture appears to work by creating these directories when you import the images. They are stored in the project you import into. Aperture stores the image previews in these directories so if they are missing Aperture appears to silently fail on creating the preview.
How I think I lost mine was that I imported a large number of images into a project and then moved them to other projects as I sorted through them. Aperture does NOT move the import directories to the new projects with the images.
I deleted the original project and because it still contained the import directories for the images, I can now no longer create previews for those images.
The only solution I can think of to fix this is to re-import all the images which have lost their import directories, this time being more careful to not delete the projects.
Does anyone have any ideas on ways that these directories (and the files within them) can be re-created (without importing) ?
    ciao
    Derek

What was happening to me was this:
    a. import images into project (a).
    b. Create a new empty project (b).
    c. Move images from project (a) to project (b).
    d. Delete project (a).
    e. Open package contents of the Aperture library.
    f. Check project (b) and there is no *.apimportgroup directory. Hence nowhere for Aperture to put the previews.
Currently I have exported all my images and am re-importing. Its the only way I can think of to re-create the *.apimportgroup directories.
Rule of thumb: if you intent to delete a project, check for *.apimportgroup directories first. I have not tried to manually copy them to other projects so I don't know if that would get around this.

  • How can I remove a signature on a PDF file that I created using Preview on iMac computer??

How can I remove a signature on a PDF file that I created using Preview on iMac computer??  I inadvertently hit the icon on the Preview tool bar with an xS and a line through it.  There is my signature in the middle of the PDF file I was editing.  How do I get rid of it?  Cannot select it.  Cannot find any tools that allow me to delete it.  The Preview documentation tells how to create and apply a signature, but not how to remove it.  I think when a signature is added the doucment becomes locked from any editing.

    Hey needadobehelp10,
Using Adobe Acrobat/Reader, you can simply change your PDF view settings under "View > Page Display > Single Page View"
Is this really you wish for?
    Please let me know.

  • I cannot see Nikon D610 raw file preview in Finder.

I can see and develop my Nikon D610 RAW file in iPhoto (latest version v 9.4.3) but surprisingly I cannot see them in the Finder (preview, icon preview, etc).
I have tried to fix it by downloading the latest Digital Raw upgrade file (5.0.2 and even 5.0.1) but the setup program refuses to launch arguing I don't have iPhoto 9.4.3 or Aperture 3.4.5
But I have iPhoto 9.4.3. I have even redownloaded it from Appstore and reinstall it but without sucess.
And to add to the complexity, I tested the NEF file with another mac (same OS version, same iPhoto version) and it works well. So I don't understand what is going wrong with my iMac
Any idea how to solve this issue ?
Many thanks in advance for your help
    Emmanuel

Problem solved. My iPhoto application was in a folder, which is preventing Digital Raw update from seeing it and therefore preventing the install.
After having put back iPhoto into the main Application folder, I have been able to reinstall digital raw update (5.0.1 and then 5.0.2, as 5.0.1 deals with my d610 and 5.0.2 is the latest version). Once install, I can see the preview in the finder as I wanted

  • Aperture 3: low quality preview images

I don’t know if it's just a problem with my (new) Aperture Trial library or if it's a Aperture 3 bug:
The preview images Aperture 3 (trial) creates from raw files (in my case NEFs) are different from the JPEGs exported using the same JPEG settings.
I get the impression that the preview images don’t use all the adjustments applied to the raw files. They don’t have the moire reduction applied. The preview images of high ISO images have color noise, the exported images don’t have that color noise (the moire and noise settings of raw fine tuning are applied to the exported files but not to the image previews).
As the preview images are used for the Finder media browser, iLife, iPhone/iPod touch picture sync and other things the lower quality is not acceptable for me.
The preview images of Aperture 2 are identical to the exported JPEGs from Aperture 2 (using the same settings).
I use Aperture 3 Trial with a new trial library and a few hundred raw images just to test Aperture 3.
I already erased all preview images and rebuild the previews. I deselected using the embedded JPEGs from the raw files and I let Aperture rebuild the miniatures.

It seems that Ap2 syncs the previews to the iPhone... you have to clear the previous cached previews before it will load higher quality previews... anyhow, here is what I did... and photos look better on my iphone (not feeling motivated enough to verify if it is the same quality as iphoto sync)...
1.) change Ap2 prefs for "limit preview size" to "don't limit"...
2.) select all the photos in the album(s) you are want to sync, right click (ctrl click), and select delete previews...
    3.) sync your iphone again...
if that doesn't work directly, you might need to uncheck sync photos to delete all photos on the iphone, but the ultimate goal is to ensure refresh with the higher quality previews...
Hope that makes sense or gets folks in the right direction... Apple really needs to put a check box in future version of itunes to sync full quality or something...

  • I cannot locate Aperture.  It seems to have disappeared.  The File Library is still in my photos on Finder.  How do I recover Aperture?

I cannot find Aperture any longer on my computer.  The file library is available in my Photos in the Finder but the program itself seems to have completely disappeared!  When I click on the library to view a photo in aperture, it is now viewed in Preview.  I do not have an Aperture icon on desktop or sidebar any longer.  How do I recover it?!  Help!

    Hi
You can find the trial version of Aperture 2.1.3 here:

  • Cannot access Aperture Library to send pictures by email

When I click on attachment in mail program it gives me Macintosh HD, then I go down and click on Pictures then I click on Aperture Library and it gives me an icon, white box with black lens and it lists name, size, kind, etc. No list of projects or pictures that I have in Aperture.
When I follow this same procedure for iPhoto, I get a list of all the projects I have in iPhoto and of course all the individual pictures which I can choose to include in my email.
I am using a Western Digital external hard drive for backing up my photos that I have in Aperture. It is a My Book, with 500 GB.
I noticed in Applications, that the application for Aperture is as follows: Aperture, Library.aplibrary.app, is this correct. Seems like to me it should be Aperture, Library.app.
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
    Bob Plunkett

To add pictures use File > Mail... and Aperture will create a new email message. Drag the images from the new email to the one you were working on.
Another solution is to generate previews for the images you want (or the who project, album etc.). The drag and drop will work as expected.

  • I want to delete aperture to create some space, will my photos remain in iPhoto?

I want to delete aperture to create some space, will my photos remain in iPhoto?

I want to delete aperture to create some space, will my photos remain in iPhoto?
Deleting Aperture will not create much free space, it is just one GB.
But you can open any Aperture library in iPhoto, if the versions are compatible. To open an Aperture 3.5.1 library you need iPhoto 9.5.1.
Before you delete Aperture make sure, that you have no photos rejected in Aperture.  iPhoto will not be able to reveal any Aperture rejected photos, just as Aperture cannot reveal any photos that have been hidden in iPhoto.

  • Itunes won't open - get message that .itl file cannot be found or created

My HP laptop with windows just crashed, and I'm trying to get everything back to working order. I reloaded itunes and it seemed to be working fine. Then at some point, I went to open it and received the messsage:
The itunes library .itl file cannot be found or created. The default location for this file is in the "itunes" folder in the "Music" folder.
I uninstalled and reinstalled itunes several times, to no avail. The program won't open and I continue to get the same error message.

Check the permissions in that folder and make sure you have full read/WRITE privileges.

  • ITunes won't open -error: The folder "iTunes" cannot be found or created...

    Hello,
I am not able to open my iTunes. I was able to use it yesterday. I keep getting the message:
*The folder "iTunes" cannot be found or created, and is required. The default location for this folder is inside the "My Music" folder.*
I have created a folder called "iTunes" in my "My Music" folder, which does not fix the problem.
I have uninstalled and installed iTunes twice.
I have used the repair option when trying to install iTunes over the top of my current iTunes.
None of these options has fixed the problem.
If anyone knows how to fix this, I would really appreciate it.
    Thanks!
    Rachel

I found the answer on another board... Below are the parts I found useful (quoted).
    Click on Start
    Clin on Run
    Type in "regedit" Enter
Do this step twice as there are two locations. +(I actually had 4 locations.)+
    CTRL F
    Type in "My Music"
Double Click and enter the path for where the folder is located.
    Then exit.
The exact locations of the 2 entries that I changed are
hkeycurrentuser - software - microsoft - windows - current version - explorer - shell folders
    and
as above - windows - current version - explorer - USER shell folders
I located the location of my iTunes folder (something like this - C:\Documents and Settings\"yourname"\My Documents\My Music\iTunes.
I copied it, and when I found the regedit location referred to, doubleclicked the location and pasted the path in there.

  • "Library.itl file cannot be found or created"

My iTunes 8.0 was working fine and then all of the sudden I get this message whenever I try to open iTunes.
"The iTune Library.itl file cannot be found or created. The default location for this file is in the "iTunes" folder in the "Music" folder."
There's a different file path for my music file than the one listed in the above error message but my iTunes won't even open for me to direct it to it.
Other times, I don't get any error messages. iTunes 8.0 simply doesn't open up.
Any help would be very appreciated.

Try holding down the Shift key in Windows when opening iTunes. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to an existing one. The default location for your iTunes library is in C:\Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\ (or C:\Username\Music\iTunes\ in Vista): How to open an alternate iTunes Library file
