Cannot create CHM output in RoboHelp 10

When attempting to create CHM for a large RoboHelp 10 project, the process fails with the following error:
HHA Version 4.74.8702
htmlproc.cpp(114) : Assertion failure: (pszTmp == m_pCompiler->m_pHtmlMem->psz)
There are 2400 topics in the project. Some 'out of memory' errors have recently been displayed when working on the project. I have followed some basic advice which I have found on the forums to change the path for the output file. I have also created a new Single Source Layout, and tried a variety of settings within the HTML Help Options dialog, with no success. I would really appreciate some advice.  Thanks very much.

Try HHA Version 4.74.8702 in Google.
Here's one result that may apply.

I am using TCS2 with linked Framemaker files. I have markers in Framemaker to generate topics (as opposed to RH pagination). I cannot attempt to compile againg without going to Project Settings reseting the Stop List to default then exiting and reopening Robohelp only to receive the same error.
Next, I tried reseting the Stope List, then deleting all htm files from Robohelp starting with UAS_Airfield_Preferences_and_Properties and all other htm topics derived from the same Frame file. I selected generate file on next update. I exited RH and reopened, this time my output file looks like this:

    Hi again
And what happens if you copy the project to C:\Projects\BAMS and compile from there?
I note that the path listed is pretty long:
    c:\Documents and Settings\serboji\My Documents\BAMS\Help\BAMS UAS Help\BAMS UAS UPC Help\!SSL!\New_Microsoft_HTML_Help_Layout\BAMS_UAS_UPC_Help.chm
If you were to change to what I'm suggesting, the path would then be:
    c:\Projects\BAMS\!SSL!\New_Microsoft_HTML_Help_Layout\BAMS_UAS_UPC_Help.chm
You might be surprised at the result if you try it.

  • Cannot create chm layout, "Next" dialog button disabled

I have used and created chm formats in the past on my project.  Now all of a sudden when I try to create one the dialog opens and allows me to designate the location, toc, index  etc. but the only button available to me is Save and Cancel.  I can't use the "Next" button (disabled) to go to any other dialog.  Has anyone had this problem before.  I'm using RBH 7.03 and generating locally.  I am wondering if this could be from a security hotfix or something like that.  I haven't tried reinstalling, I thought I would see if anyone has had this before going to that option.
Also, I was asked to print to PDF and we noticed that the footer doesn't print in the PDF.  Is this a default of RBH?  I don't see a way to change it so it will print at the end of each topic.

You should only see Save if you have accessed the properties of the layout. If you double click, then you should see Finish and Cancel. Previous and Next will be disabled as there is no next for this layout.
Separate questions are best asked in separate posts as sometimes people can answer one and not the other, and then may not answer either. You haven't said whether you are talking about printing topics from the output or creating a printed document. If the latter, the headers and footers do not print. See Printed Documentation on my site.

  • Using RoboHelp 7 CHM Output on a Server

CHM output from RoboHelp 7 (6, . . .), as well as any
application that produced CHM, will not load on a network device.
This is a known issue confirmed by Adobe. When Microsoft
Security Update 896358 was installed to address remote code
execution, chm files located on a server will not work load.
Typically, a single "Page Cannot Be Displayed" message appears when
you attempt to open the CHM.
My employer wishes to use the compiled output on SharePoint
and is asking me why we cannot. : - (
The only fix I've found, beyond downloading the file locally,
    is to hack the registry.
Does anyone have a fix or suggestion?

    Hi again Joe
As for books, all there is to the best of my knowledge is
Kevin Siegel's "Skills and Drills" book. It's intended to help you
learn RoboHelp with no instructor present and no help from anyone
else. It is the guide that many of us RoboHelp instructors use as
an outline. (Of course we add lots of additional value by offering
what the book doesn't cover) If you go looking on Amazon, beware
that a "RoboHelp 7 for Dummies" book also exists. But it is
severely outdated. This is because RoboHelp 7 was the "new" version
back in 1998! (Yeah, Adobe didn't conform to the logical standard.
If they had, version 7 would have been version 14. Version 7 is
    logically version 15.)
Not sure what to advise about the .CHM issue other than to
ask if you have used the Single Source Layouts folder and tried
double-clicking the layout. That action tells RoboHelp to generate
the output. If you try that, what do you see? Do you see a dialog
with a button labeled "View Result"? If so, what happens when you
    click it?
    Cheers... Rick

  • Not able to view the webhelp output in Robohelp 9

    Hello,
I am in a project where we have to create webhelp output from Robohelp 9. Whenever I generate the webhelp ouput I am not able to view the the contents. Although, the webhelp is opening in a browser window but there are no topics present in the contents. The other ouputs like .chm and .dox are fine, but there is some problem with the webhelp which I am unable to figure out.
    Regards,
    Ruso

    What browser are you using?
If Chrome, try something else. Chrome works fine with help on the server but not locally. There is more in Snippets on my site about the Chrome issue.

  • "Unable to save markup: Cannot create output file" message with ISDK

    Hi,
We have an integration of AutoVue with OpenText Livelink, and we're seeing that if users open a document, and then work on adding mark-ups for a long time (3 hours) without saving the mark-up when the user saves the markup they get an error message "Unable to save markup: Cannot create output file". If they then press the save button they get the out-of-the-box AutoVue 'Save Markup File As' dialog.
The ISDK DMS integration servlet and VueServlet servlet are both running under Tomcat with 740 minute session timeout set for the servlet.
When we look at the logs we're not seeing any attempts to save the mark-up, which is confusing.
It looks as though the link between the AutoVue applet and the DMS has been lost.
Is it possible to specify session time-outs in the AutoVue applet?
Is there a way of checking keep-alives are being sent (if they are ever sent)?
    Help appreciated!
    Thanks
    Paul

AutoVue default timeout is 30 minutes and is being controlled by the option jvueserver.users.timeout (value set in seconds, default is 1800).
Adding to the jvueserver.properties the following line:
    jvueserver.users.timeout=50400
would set AutoVue session timeout to 14 hours (longer than Tomcat session).
If the issue still persists, the AutoVue session timeout is probably not the cause...

  • Cannot Create Output File Error

I have a working (and deployed) JSP/ADF application which was written with JDev 10.1.2 that I need to make a change to. Since it was deployed, I've gotten a new computer, and installed JDev 10.1.2 on it. Now, when I open the project on the new computer and try to build it, I get an error
"error writing class oracle.jbo.http.HttpSessionCookieImpl: java.io.IOException: cannot create output file"
    The source file is <jdevhome>\bc4j\src\bc4jhtmlsrc.zip!\oracle\jbo\http\HttpSessionCookieImpl.java.
I'm guessing that somewhere in the project there's an xml file that has an out-of-date reference to a file location that doesn't exist on this computer. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'm a bit concerned that JDev projects are dependent upon the original computer? Please say it isn't so!

    Thanks,
Ive set this, although the temporary files that Reports usese are going there, the temp PDF isnt!!

  • Mk:@MSITStore cannot open file from within RoboHelp

Have recently upgraded to RoboHelp 8 and now see the much discussed "Cannot open the file: mk:@MSITStore:<path>" error but only when trying to view .chm files from RoboHelp for Word, by clicking "View Primary Layout".  Weirdly enough, some projects display the .chm correctly when clicking "View Result" right after generating the help file, some projects do not.  Viewing .chm directly from output location is always fine.  For very small projects, the "View Primary Layout" button seems to work.  For very large projects, the error message always occurs.  I've un-registered and re-registered hhctrl.ocx as well as downloaded, replaced and registered the previous ocx version (4.73.8412.0) as well as re-registered itss.dll  The OS is Windows XP Professional with IE 7.  Suggestions please?  Thanks!

    RoboHelp 8
    XP Pro
I recently ran into a problem viewing some pdfs and Word Documents in a generated html help file.
    Setup:
pdfs and .docs in baggage files
links to the baggage files created in tables
    2 tables in each topic
pdfs/docs in first table in each topic opened without a problem
pdfs/docs in second table would not open -  address bar display:
    (Example)
    mk:@MSITStore:C:\EOCs\!SSL!\Microsoft_HTML_Help\BlueMedicare_EOCs.chm::/2012_EOCs/2012_WS_ Book.pdf
(Pause for much gnashing of teeth, pulling of hair, angst, frustration and thinking) but no pdf (or Word doc)
I can't change registry entries or any other computer settings.  No administrative rights.
Anyway, it couldn't be an outdated registry entry because within one project, some pdfs and docs displayed as expected and others didn't.
Checked to see what the differences were in the tables/cells that worked vs the ones that didn't.
Looking at the HTML,  I found "target=_blank" in each row of the tables that failed to display a baggage file.
I replaced "target=_blank" with no replacement text -  I left Replace with blank.
Voila!  All pdfs and docs open just as expected.
    I hope this helps someone.

  • Invalid media. Cannot create file" popup when generating

Okay, the background. I'm currently using RoboHelp HTML 11.0.3.268, with the latest updates as I write this, having updated from RoboHelp HTML 9. (I know that people will ask, and I understand, so I'm stating as much information up front to ensure that nobody has any questions of their own.) My main RoboHelp project is broken down into eight separate subprojects, with an output of CHM and WebHelp HTML files. In addition, my supervisor had an issue with viewing the new RoboHelp 11-generated HTML files in Google Chrome, so I found and added the RH11 files recommended by RoboHelp Help (WebHelp issues in RoboHelp versions 10 and 11). Immediately after doing this, though, I cannot generate WebHelp files. As soon as I select between any of the WebHelp Settings menu, a popup appears that reads "Invalid media. Cannot create file", followed with the directory path of the project's main .htm page.  Short of reinstalling RoboHelp HTML, what options do I have to be able to generate a valid set of WebHelp files?

Here's the RH 11.0.3 files: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B97LY22mEkjqemJobkRmRmg2RFU/view?usp=sharing Add the files to the template_stock folder.
The Chrome freezing up should be solved in RoboHelp 10/11. On RoboHelp 9, no amount of fixes will make Chrome work locally. If your manager tries the 11 WebHelp it should work fine.
    Kind regards,
    Willam

  • Cannot Compile CHM -- Message says to close all HTML Help windows

Running TCS 1.3 with latest patches.
Single source project - output to HTML Help (.chm).
When I try to compile, I receive the following message:
"Cannot create compiled file. It may be open in another window. Please close all HTML Help windows and try again."
I don't have any HTML Help windows open. Shutting down RH and restarting does not resolve the problem. I have to shut down the computer, which is a serious hassle, before I can compile again. I do work from a network directory, which may be causing it, but I'd like to know if there is a process I can kill from the Windows Task Manager that would allow me to compile without having to restart my computer. I don't see any process that identifies itself as something I can kill to resolve this issue.
    Anyone?

    Hi there
That message normally indicates you have launched the .CHM file that you are trying to create. The first step of the process is to destroy the existing .CHM in preparation for building the new one. Just as you would need to destroy a house on a lot where you wish to build a new one.
If your .CHM is on a network drive, another user may have it open. (yet another good reason for working locally)
If your .CHM is on your local drive, RoboHelp believes you have it open. If you press Alt+Tab, you may see a blue up arrow. That will indicate the running CHM file.

  • How can I specify the default tab in a CHM Output?

My company uses CHM-based help for some of its products. We build the CHM files from RoboHelp 9, and while these CHM files don't really have a full Index attached to them, the Index tab shows up in the output anyway. Unfortunately, we are suddenly seeing that when the CHM file is launched from our program, the Index tab is displayed by default. We'd rather have the Contents tab be the default look, especially considering that the Index does not exist.
I have poked around into how you can specify a default tab for a CHM file, and the only information I have found suggests that using a CHM file creates a file (HH.dat) that specifies which tab should be displayed on a user-by-user basis, and that the last tab displayed when you close the CHM should be the first one displayed when you re-open it. While this is true if you open the CHM independent from the product, when you launch it from our program, it's all Index, all the time.
So, my question is: How can I specify the default tab for a CHM file? Or, failing that, how can I excise the Index tab from my CHM output.

    Hi there
This will be something up to your application developer to resolve. When s/he issues the call to open the CHM, there are parameters that may be used to always open with the desired tab "in front".
Point your developer to the link below and advise that s/he is most likely interested in the section titled: Programming Tips.

  • .chm Output with Windows 7

    Hello All,
This is an existing discussion over on the Word forum, I'm moving it over to this one at Peter Grainge's suggestion.
I maintain a large help system in Robohelp for Word that is generated in .chm output.  Some users in the organization have been upgraded to Windows 7, and they cannot view the help in the program that the help resides in.  The program is on a Citrix server.
Peter has an article on his site that suggests changing the end user's registry is the way to fix this.  Does anyone know if this is still the case or have any suggestions?  Or does .chm not work with Windows 7?
    I appreciate any insight.

    Hi again
So it would seem you have your answer. You said the .CHM format works fine in Windows 7. What's left is to resolve why things break when viewing via Citrix. And it wouldn't surprise me to see that you maybe need to tweak the registry to relax some restriction somewhere. Perhaps Windows 7 is seeing Citrix as Vista and XP see a network for CHM deployment.
As for the .HLP and it not working in Vista, they still do. 16 bit HLP should work straight off without issue. 32 bit works after you download the viewer from Microsoft. I'd bet Windows 7 is the same way.
You might find a Citrix forum and ask about the .CHM and Windows 7. Perhaps another user there will have encountered the situation and may advise.
    Cheers... Rick

  • RH 7 - How can I get .swf movies to work inside CHM output on Windows 7

    Hi RHelpers,
I'm using RoboHelp Html (RH 7, latest patch) on my Win 7 64-bit machine to provide a HtmlHelp (CHM) output.
Now that we're close to releasing, I've been doing some testing, and I've noticed that my SWF movie files do not play inside of Windows 7 when viewing them inside of the CHM file. It keeps asking to install the Adobe Flash Player. But I've already clicked Yes several times to that message, and it still doesn't play the file. I've even manually downloaded and installed it as an administrator, restarted my system and still no go. It just shows a red X in the container where the movie should be playing.
However, viewing the same topic inside of RH's preview window (or inside a browser) seems to work fine. Also, I've copied and pasted the problem CHM onto a virtual machine running 32-bit Vista, and the movies display fine there. This tells me it's something to do with how how compiled files are handled in 64-bit environments.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any solutions out there?

    I see the answer here:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/781427?tstart=2
Also I verified that our software does use the 32-bit hh.exe so I'm only seeing this when running the help by itself, outside of our software. That's good news.

    In your config.log:

    /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lws2_32
    /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lole32
    /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -loleaut32

    /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -ladvapi32
    /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lwinmm
    /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lkernel32
Try find these files which package provides!
Edit: maybe package 'wine' provides this but as I see these libs are in /usr/lib/wine.

Again today as I go to copy files (images) from Adobe Camera Raw, to say a Tiff or a Jpeg, it appears to begin to copy as normal, then suddenly a box appears with all my copying
file name/numbers, and it begins to eliminate one by one "Cannot Create File", failing the entire process to copy. I have never seen this until I began using Creative Cloud about a
    month ago.
Can anyone help this Saturday evening as i am trying to complete a large project of images for others who expect them soon.?
Thank you and I look forward to any advice soon,

    Hi Rick
Thanks for clarifying that. Yes, that term was my mistake, as I meant to write 'Save As"
Another forum respondent just replied also, and he states as so many others do, that they do not use
the Adobe Camera Raw app formerly with CS6, as they instead use Lightroom, so he apologized that he
was not familiar with ACR but that I might have an old CS6 plug-in running that may not be completely
compatible with the new Creative Cloud. I am not sure if this is the problem.
What I would find as not really likely, is that the Creative Cloud engineers would go through all the trouble
to redesign from the old CS6, then even assist us over the phone to help install it, but in oversight,
leave us without a proper update to properly run Adobe Camera Raw. I also have never really understood the advantage of Lightroom. I'm sure that many must enjoy its efficiency, as I hear wedding photographers like it for huge batch processing of adjusting many images in synchronicity all at once. I would say that I do the same with ACR accessing it through Bridge, and I like ACR's quick and simple access for simple image adjustments and then say a small batch all synchronized, then finally to "Save As" for all selected to a final output as Tiff or Jpeg.
As an astronomer that has just started learning to use Registax for night sky images, we also like the ACR adjustments and then to "Save As" eg. all Jpeg or all Tiff, to then photo-stitch large landscape and night sky panoramas with Microsoft ICE photo-stitching.
Sorry for the long description here, but I hope to relate the total idea of what I am doing for the past years. I'll even attach an example >
Thanks for your possible solution to my problem in "Saving As" in ACR,
    Mark
