Cannot create shortcut icon

Hi:
I am on Windows 2000 and I executed the following command to import Java Webstart app into system cache and to create a shortcut on the desktop.
javaws -shortcut -system -import http://localhost:7001/uif/uifTestClient.jnlp
WebStart imported the App into system cache alright but it failed to create the shortcut. Also the Java Cache Viewer shows the shortcut icon disabled.
Any Idea?
Thanks
-ken

WebStart imported the App into system cache alright
but it failed to create the shortcut. ..
javaws -shortcut -system -import
http://localhost:7001/uif/uifTestClient.jnlp
I see the from the guide here..
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/javaws/developersguide/javaws.html#options
"-shortcut
Allows the creation of shortcuts during silent import."
However there is no mention of '-silent' in your
command above.

This app works for some systems as below:
Windows 7 - works OK and creates shortcut
Linux (OpenSuse 11.4 and 12.3) - works OK, shortcut usually created (seems a bit flakey)
    Mac OS: cannot create shortcut
    Mac OS version: 10.8.3
    java Version 7 update 17 (build 1.7.0_17-b02)
Java Console -> View Temporary Internet Files -> Install Shortcuts for the Selected Applications -> "Unable to Create Shortcut for PriceBook"
The jars have been signed with a self-signed cert, which of course I accepted on install, and it is possible to re-launch the app from Java Console.
Is there a solution for this ?

If a JNLP file is invalid it is anybody's guess as to how it will be parsed by a JWS client. To validate JNLP files as well as perform many other checks on the resources, point JaNeLA *(<- link)* at the main JNLP file.
I am not saying that validation of the JNLP file will make shortcuts work on Mac. Do the Macs. run Java 1.6.0_18+? If so, shortcuts can be installed using methods that return success/failure, through the IntegrationService *(<- link).*

I have MS Word 2011 installed on my iMac running Lion.  Have overcome the problem of the hidden Library but still unable to see toolbar with the shortcut icons such as Format paster.  Have researched and tried deleting normal template.  no joy. reinstalled Office. no joy. unchecked standard and formatting toolbars and rechecked and a blank line appears where toolbar icons should be.  Sometimes they magically appear after a few minutes!  Often not.
this is driving me nuts so please any ideas

That's awesome G4 dude, thank you.
I've had this problem since upgrading to the latest release of word 2011. Thre used to b a losenge in the top right corner, when this dissappeared it lost the toolbar strip. Really frikkin' annoying it was. Thanks for the tip!

  • Cannot create shortcut with FF icon from bookmarks - comes up IE icon why

Trying to create a shortcut for yahoo mail login on my desktop but every time I try it puts an icon with an Internet Explorer icon not a Firefox icon. When I click on the icon it opens up to the yahoo login but in Internet explorer not Firefox. Tried going to bookmarks in Firefox and dragging to my desktop but it still comes up with IE icon.

It will use the icon of the default browser, make sure that you set Firefox as the default - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Default_browser

  • Cannot create Desktop Icons

I'm not totally sure if it is Adobe Photoshop Elements 7 that is causing the problem but it has reappeared three times right AFTER installing the package. For some reason Vista Ultimate 32-bit will not let me add a new desktop Icon after Adobe Photoshop Elements 7 is installed. As soon as I drop back via a "restore" the problem goes away and stays away until I reinstall Photoshop Elements then it comes right back! Any ideas on what is going on and what I can do to resolve the issue. In the meantime it looks like I wasted another $74 messing around with Photoshop Elements!

  • How to create shortcut desktop icon for all users???

    Hello All,
I want to know how to create shortcut icon for all users in windows 7. I tried C:\Users\Public but no folder for Desktop.
    Thanks

    C:\users\All users
    JS
    Hi,
I am just wondering, what is the technically correct location to place say, a shortcut, for all users to access on their desktops on a given machine?
    Is it C:\Users\Public\Desktop ?
    Or is it C:\Users\All Users\Desktop ?
Would it also be possible to explain the differences as well? Or paste some links to the overview of each one? I am having trouble finding anything from MS.
    Thank you.

    Question
How do I put a Shortcut Icon on my Desktop linking to a certain Webpage, like I could do with I.E./Google? Where do I find "Create Shortcut' ???

    Hey, Dynamite !
Thanks so much for that ... what a 'dynamite' solution. It's so easy. I don't know how you people know all of these things ! But one last thing if you can help me - I've just switched over to Mozilla/Firefox from I.E., and now I cannot open my Hotmail from Mozilla/Firefox. I log in, it goes to my 'Inbox' page, but when I click on an Email letter to open it, nothing happens. I can't even go into 'Drafts' or 'Delete' or anything.

  • To create a desktop shortcut icon for the application for a jar file

    Hi
I have created a jar file for my application. when i double click this jar file, the application opens.
    What i want is--
Instead of user clicking on the jar file, my application also has to create a desktop shortcut icon.
If the user clicks on the icon which is on the desktop the application should open.
    Please suggest me.
    Thanks in advance.

    >
Please suggest me.>Launch the application using java webstart. A webstart launch offers things like a splash screen, automatic updates, and desktop integration in the form of desktop shortcuts and program menu items. If the launch file specifies icons, they are used for the shortcuts, otherwise a generic icon is used.
For a comparison between a sandboxed webstart launch and a plain app., try the [Text Width Checker|http://pscode.org/twc/].
While the TWC can run OK within the security sandbox, many applications need to be digitally signed and request extended permissions, to do what they need to do.
STBC is an all-permissions webstart launch.
    Edit 1:
And for one that definitely suggests desktop shortcuts (I usually avoid them, in favor of a menu item only), try the sandboxed [demo of the PrintService|http://pscode.org/jws/api.html#prs], which prompts the user to choose.

  • When I start firefox through shortcut icon on desktop, the message comes that Windows cannot find C:\...\jqsnotify.exe

When I start firefox through shortcut icon on desktop, the message comes that Windows cannot find C:\...\jqsnotify.exe . Tried to search the file through Search also but could not find the file.

That is the Java Quick Starter, a couple of options for you:
    # Open the add-ons manager (in the Tools menu select Add-ons)
    # In the list of Extensions, click on Java Quick Starter to select it, then click on Disable
When you re-start Firefox that should stop the error.
The second option is to re-install Java. You are using an old version of Java so it is recommended that you install the latest version, available from http://java.com/

Hi, try this: Right click on the Desktop icon > Delete. Now open the Start Menu > All Programs, right click on Mozilla Firefox > Send to > Desktop (create shortcut). There should now be a Firefox icon on the Desktop.

  • Java 7u13 win8 shortcut icons still appear to be broken

As Woodiw1563768 pointed out in July of 2012, the Java Web Start (JAWS) desktop shortcut icon on Windows 8 appear to be broken[0]. When you provide a custom icon the shortcut appears as a blank paper instead of as your icon or the default web start icon. This is still happening in February of 2013.
Windows 8 is "officially supported with the release of Java 7 Update 10" [1] and bug 2230144 claims this issue should be fixed as of Java 7 Update 12 (7u12) [2], but when I tested with the latest version from java.com, 1.7.0_13 (7u13) my icons are still broken for applications which work with the same version of Java on earlier versions of Windows. Can anyone else confirm this? It would be handy to have a public JNLP file that normally installs icons that we can all test against. The one in the bug report appears to be missing or only internal.
As noted in bug 7182795 [3], the issue appears to be some Windows security conflict with the use of LocalLow as the cache directory where JAWS icons are stored.
I am having trouble figuring out how to comment on bug 2230144 to indicate that it still appears to be broken.
Is there any way to work around this bug? (Besides not using web start or not relying on the desktop shortcuts.)
I have tested setting the icon path manually, but every time the JNLP file is updated, and sometimes on every launch, the shortcut is deleted and re-created, reverting back to the broken icon.

  • How can I create an icon that when clicked will open and maximize an image file?

How do I create a icon that when clicked will open and maximize an image file?  I have tried to use the simple image widget with maximize upon tap/click - however I am can only size the image really small and put on the page.  I'd prefer to have a graphic that when clicked it simply opens up the image.  This is for a very simple question/answer book.   The user is suppose to look at a picture and locate something.  I want to put an 'Answer' graphic on the image and then the user can click the 'answer' graphic and it will open up the picture with the answer identified.
    Is this possible?

Have yiu tried the PopOver widget?  You can drop an image into it, maximise the image and the widgets window...But, you cannot get it full screen.
With iBooks Author, you either learn to use what is available within the app, or look online for third party widgets to purchase which suit your project.
